'09 Boys HS Season

The 2008 boys high school season had a lot of parity with many very good teams. Who will emerge as this years champion?

haha seriously..i'm not even on eastview and I know he's one of the best defenders in the state (if not the best). you have no idea what you are talking about..you might want to try watching the game if you're going to put the effort in to go to it

Anonymous said...

pre-section ranks:

1. Woodbury
2. Mankato West
3. SOuthwest
4. Jefferson
5. Central

What the heck is going with the North Saint Paul Varsity Boys team???? I dont think they have won a game yet.
Quality players?
Quality head coach?
Or just terrible?

Me XMan said...

Dog-fights!
Anoka 1, Centennial 0
Osseo 3, Coon Rapids 3 (OT)

Picture is clearer now.
Tornadoes will likely taking NWSC title.
I don't think Champlin Park can win over Anoka but who knows.
NWSC is one tough conference.

AV is too much for lake conf.

Anonymous said...

Jefferson 1, Eden Prairie 1

Anonymous said...

AV still has Eagan and Jefferson

Anonymous said...

Eagan will be no match for them and Jefferson wont keep up on the score sheet with them

Anonymous said...

I bet one of them ties them

Anonymous said...

apple valley is a great high school team but it is sad that most of those guys won state cup.

Anonymous said...

why is that sad?

Anonymous said...

Got any suggestions on how to shutdown AV attacking?

Anonymous said...

the problem is that you cant shut them down because if you say ok we are going to stop DR and double him and have someone shadow him, then TO comes in a burns you for a couple goals, and they are so deadly on set pieces its ridiculous

Anonymous said...

thanks AV player for that bit of info

Anonymous said...

Fargo South 1 Eden Prairie 0?

Av players aren't writing on this blog..it's all parents and friends

Anonymous said...

Bull sh**, look at puncuation, grammar???? All parents on this blog write with perfect grammar...good try.

After seeing edina beat the lakers 3-1 i was impressed with their depth and youth. They only started 3 seniors and moved the ball very well. they seem to hold back on offense lost many scoring chances with only 1 forward up front? 2nd win i have seen and both games they seem to pull most of their starters out in the 2nd half? Very young team playing good soccer.

XMan Games to Watch - Tuesday 9/22

Coon Rapids vs. Anoka - 5:00 PM at Anoka
Always a battle in conference and section between these two.
I have Tornadoes 2-1 Cardinals.

Lakeville North vs. Bloomington Jefferson - 5:00 PM at Bloomington Jefferson
The Panthers let their guard down and lost to Rochester Century over the weekend.
It's probably another even game for the Jaguars. I have Panthers 1-1 Jaguars.

Edina vs. Minnetonka 5:00 PM at Minnetonka
Whoever wins this game will win take the conference title.
I have Edina 2-1 Skippers.

#2 Woodbury vs. #4 Southwest tonight. Predictions?

Woodbury 3, SW 1

Anonymous said...

Woodbury = Way overrated.
Southwest = Way overrated.

XMan didn't even mention them.

Anonymous said...

maybe xman didn't realize they play tonight not Tuesday. Yeah, I'm sure coon rapids vs anoka will be better?? 2:19 you are clueless

Me XMan said...

I've missed this good game between Woodbury and Mpls SW. However I don't agree with Mpls SW high ranking in Top 10.

Mpls SW schedule is limited with non-conf games and beating up on too many easy teams in their conference.

I don't see tougher competition in Suburban East and Mpls City than Lake and NW Suburban conferences. Their Top 10 ranking is too high IMO.

From history, Mplw SW do very well in their conf year-in and year-out and falls apart in section. You can say the same thing for Woodbury.

Me XMan said...

Woodbury 1, Minneapolis Southwest 0

Anonymous said...

AV?

they read like a Dr. Suess Book

High pressure on their backs to prevent the early direct ball - make them play with their faces to their own goal especially on the outside

and

exploit their flanks and use long diagonal balls to unbalance them.

AV is so predictable in their play.

Anonymous said...

and it seems no one can stop them lately. Talk is good but it sucks when you don't have the personel to carry it out.

Anonymous said...

Saw Burnsville play the other nite. What happened to thier team, thought they had some kids who played premier. Did not see them rostered. Saw kids from a team that got relagated on varsity though....politics?

Mr. Soccer winners are a joke - why waste our time getting the discussion going?

Anonymous said...

Of course it's ok to play 5 years of Varsity sports, for example 8th grade, 9th grade, 10th grade, 11th grade, 12th grade...

7:33 am If you want to start something put the detail in your post. Where do they have a controversial 5th year player??

7:33 is not saying 5 years on a Varsity Sport...was specific 5 years ON VARSITY! Maybe not trying to start something but wanted a ruled clarified -

Anonymous said...

Have Thursday night off...what is a good game to go watch?

Anonymous said...

Saw the Osseo/MG game last night. Amad Bah is pretty awesome. The rest of Osseo is not. Take him out, the game is won. MG did this, and they are not a good team. Might be their first conf win.

Anonymous said...

Lakeville North keeper saved to PK's and played well in the game vs Jefferson. North only has three loses and have not lost in the Lake.

Anonymous said...

I too saw the game and would not go that far. Amad Bah is a preformance player, but what does he bring to the team? He is Captain, but he is no leader.

Anonymous said...

h.s. is like college w/o a red shirt rule. you can play varsity for 6 years, 7-12th grade, but once the clock starts as a 9th grader you get 4 seasons. no way around it.

Anonymous said...

"Is a performance player" "but is no leader” Instead of attacking you for your contradictory statements, I thought, I try point out the fault in your thought process. (Probably in vain)

Leadership traits as listed in Wikipedia -
"key leader traits include: drive, energy, tenacity, and initiative, leadership motivation (the desire to lead but not to seek power as an end in itself), honesty, integrity, self-confidence (which is associated with emotional stability), cognitive ability, and knowledge of the business.” From what I know of him, he has all those traits.

How about teamwork – “Teamwork is a joint action by two or more people, in which each person contributes with different skills and expresses his or her individual interests and opinions to the unity and efficiency of the group in order to achieve common goals. This does not mean that the individual is no longer important; however, it does mean that effective and efficient teamwork goes beyond individual accomplishments. The most effective teamwork is produced when all the individuals involved harmonize their contributions and work towards a common goal.”

The problem doesn’t sound like a leadership problem as much as a problem with an individual dad/mom understanding of teamwork. Instead taking every opportunity to trash the kid because your son isn’t a captain, perhaps you should take this opportunity to teach you son how to be a good teammate.

XMan Games to Watch - Thursday 9/24

Centennial vs. Coon Rapids - 7:00 PM at Coon Rapids, MN
The Courgars better prove me right that they should be #1 in NWSC.
The Cardinals will be a tough bird to kill but they'll do it.
I have Courgars 3-1 Cardinals.

Now we're getting into the Lake Conference aka Black'n Blue Zone.
Finally, Thursday features good matches and plenty of fireworks.

Bloomington Jefferson vs. Eastview - 7:00 PM at Apple Valley, MN
The Jaguars to prove they should be in Top 10 which I don't agree.
The Lighting are party-crashers. They already crashed on Eagan Wildcats.
I have Jaguars 2-1 Lighting.

Apple Valley vs. Lakeville North - 8:00 PM at Lakeville North High School
The Eagle will be too much for the Panthers.
I have Eagles 4-0 Panthers.

Eagan vs. Lakeville South - 7:00 PM at Lakeville, MN
The Wildcats should be able to get their game on track.
I have Wildcats 3-1 Courgars.

Mankato West vs. Rochester Century - 7:00 PM at Rochester, MN
The Panthers should have no problems with the Scarlets.
I have Panthers 3-1 Scarlets.

Question of the day: What are your thoughts on AA varsity squads carrying full (i.e., 22-player) rosters? I'm a follower of a 22-man squad and it ain't working. Too much subbing, not enough cohesion. Thoughts?

Anonymous said...

22-man roster is too many but if players don't mind then it's no big deal.

11:58 - then that is a shame! That has politics written all over it!

As you suggested my son does not play osseo.
I was just a visitor of the game and know Amad Bah well.
In your quote you missed a few traits he possessed last night after the game.
This was towards his fellow team mates as they sat and watched the girls game.
I heard him talking loud.
He was cruel, ruthless and demeaning to several player on the his team, sitting around him. Making cruel comments about how they played, how they need to improving their play what they did wrong. But he never mentioned wha the did wrong, he was not the problem, everyone around him was the problem.
This is a leader you are talking about.

You maybe should have stayed around to see the fireworks, your leader put on after the big show.
It was cruel and unneccessary at best.

Thanks for the polite and friendly response 10:12am. So 4 years on varsity is okay...is it it okay if it is 2 as a junior and 2 as a senior?

Anonymous said...

Six years is okay too. 3 on jv and 3 on varsity. it's part of 'no child left behind' thing.

Anonymous said...

I wasn't at the game. If what your saying is "true", that has not been my experience with him, in the summer. And is not acceptable behavior ever.

On the same hand it does sound like there is a leadership problem. But perhaps at the the coaching level not at the captain's level. I can't imagine the summer coach putting up with that behavior.

Regardless, it would be refreshing to see a player receive a compliment without the follow trash session, by the "adults".

Anonymous said...

I was hoping the same, but watching him lastnight left a very bad taste in my mouth.
He is a player no doubt, he can be everything you said and more when he chooses.
Maybe because the coaching is so poor at Osseo, he has to carry more than his share. But his actions lastnight were very poor for any player/captian.
I was hoping he might offer some good postive corrections that could better the team, instead of the cruel tasteless comments he offered to them.
I hope he can redeem himself, I doubt I was the only one who heard him.

Well...umm, as I’m “pr” and did not make that last post I guess I am not talking to myself.

I guess I though by signing the post it could possible elevate the discussion. Apparently, not, it only invites clowns who hide behind anonymity.

I think Mr Bah presented himself now that school is out.

1:22 I guess I'm not familiar with the situation. 2 years as a jr and 2 as a senior doesn't seem right. You need to maintain a min. gpa and 'show progress' towards graduation i.e. take minimum credits. If you do those two things then I can't figure a situation where a player who started as a jr. would finish in at most 3 years, which might be acceptable. Based on the little info on this, I assume it's a foreign player, though I might be wrong. If that's the case sometimes they get misplaced in the wrong grade and that needs to be corrected. Administrators and coaches, none that I know, would ever do this just to get another year out of a player. I don't know if that helps...

Anonymous said...

At 11:51AM, was MexMan outlining the State Tournament? It's not that time already is it?

Nevermind. That was just the Lake Conference.

Anonymous said...

Regarding the Osseo game--why did Bah keep playing wider and wider? Towards the end of the game he finally got into the play a bit, but most of the 2nd half he was sitting on the wing. Stupid--he can barely recieve the ball there. Nice job Osseo coaches.

Anonymous said...

Who cares about Osseo? They couldn't even beat the worst team Maple Grove. Give it a rest.

I saw Chaska v Rosemount last night. Parents in the stands for both teams were obnoxious, ignorant, and plain rude.

Several parents were yelling out insults to players, that clearly would be considered taunting and should have been dealt with by the home team AD.

Assistant referee closest to the fans asked them to settle down several times and then was berated by a dad who felt he had been insulted when told to relax.

Classy!

Before each game, HS league should require sportsmanship for the fans be read. I can see kids goofing around but not parents yelling insults. That's pathetic.

A students COULD be a junior for two years and a senior for two providing.

See http://www.mshsl.org/mshsl/publications/code/forms/2009-10AthEligInfo.pdf?ne=8.pdf

However, the rules say ...

*AGE — A student representing a member school in League activities shall be under 20 years of age at the start of the season. If, however, a student has started a season, the student will be permitted to complete that season after reaching the student’s 20th birthday. Adapted athletes are eligible to participate until their 22nd birthday provided they meet all other eligibility requirements.

*ENROLLMENT, ATTENDANCE, AND REQUIRED SUBJECT LOAD — Students must be fully enrolled in (as defined by the Minnesota Department of Education) and attending the school before they are eligible to represent that school in MSHSL sponsored activities. Students must be properly registered, attending school and classes regularly, and enrolled in the required number of credits to graduate in four (4) years after first entering the 9th grade.

how does AV beat #2 ranked Eagan 6-0 and #4 ranked Lakeville North 9-1? i dont even understand it - they are absolutely ridiculous. good luck trying to even keep a shutout against them during the first half of play

Anonymous said...

There's nothing to stop AV now. They're ridiculously good.

Anonymous said...

Saw the AV v Eagan game. Eagan looked like they read all the hype and scores AV has put up and were not mentally prepared to battle.

First goal was soft, so was third goal. Shoulders slumped further with each goal. Eagan fianlly started playing more like they are capable of late in the game. I will still be interested to see them play again in sections.

AV plays like a team that has played together for years, each time they touch the ball it looks like they know what they want to do and where they intend to go, very confident..

Anonymous said...

Ever think Eagan looked better late in the game because everyone was on the bench for AV? They still only managed one shot on goal. I don't think much would change in a section game from this result.

Anonymous said...

wow!

Anonymous said...

so xman was right all along. av to sweep it all like osseo did last year.

Anonymous said...

I've played against both of those teams and I can tell you that if Osseo's previous team played AV's current team, the score would be 4 or 5-1 (if not a shutout) with AV dominating the match. Unreal.

IF YOU WANT TO CROWN THEM - GO AHEAD AND CROWN THEM.....
AV IS WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE....AND EAGAN LET 'EM OFF THE HOOK...

sorry, it's a football sunday and i though of denny.

The top 3 2008 teams would beat the 2009 Apple Valley team. Apple Valley is a strong team, but the competition is weaker this year.

6-0 against Eagan? Where was the defense and the goalkeeping? Yikes.

I am not an AV fan. Don't care for their HS coach, and don't care for the traveling program. But, I have to say, they are steam-rolling through the season, playing a reasonably tough schedule. One of the Dad's told me the difference this year is depth. They do have a few outstanding players and 10-12 very good players. He thinks they look like a MN U17-U18 Premier team (which I guess they pretty much are.) I think the only thing that could stop them, is their coach...any he seems to be just staying out of their way so far. They remind me of the Mpls South teams a few years back, but are probably significanlty deeper.

Me XMan said...

Hate to say it but Apple Valley will sweep all awards this year. State Championship and Mr. Soccer. just like Osseo last year.

Anonymous said...

11:35, isn't their coach supposed to be one of the best that Minnesota has ever seen? I don't think that he'll play anything remotely close to a role in obstructing the team's success, in fact, most likely the opposite.

Anonymous said...

AV's coach has 500+ wins and 7 state championships. I don't know why you would say that the coach could stop them.

Anonymous said...

next xman would probably say av coach is coach of the year.

Anonymous said...

AV coach is going to win the National Coach of the Year from NSCAA. If they win it and go unbeaten they will give him the award its a career achievement award and 8 titles and 500 wins will put him in as the winner

Anonymous said...

NSCAA has a hard time giving awards to coaches that don't have any club resume to speak of. Regardless of your opinion, don't hold your breath. I agree with 11:35, AVs performance would be the same with a Pokemon as a leader. If they don't win it all, he is the only one to blame.

Rumor is that the apple valley coach is actually a world class kickball player. Thats why they can all kick the ball so far, its a secret technique

Anonymous said...

Their coach has over 500 wins..that pretty much speaks for itself. I don't know if it's ignorance or jealousy or what but there's really nothing negative to say about him. (world class kick-baller? That's honestly the best you could come up with)

Probably only Eastview and Eagan have even a remote chance against AV in the sections. I see that Eastview played them to 2-1. Not sure if the game was close or not.

Pat Hawes of St Johns has the most college soccer wins in MN. He is not a soccer coach either. AV coach falls into that same category.

You hang around long enough and have enough talent come your way and you too can win 500 games. Scanlon could not pass a E license course without help.

AV has talent and they must be smart enough to make the correct decisions on the field. I would assert that the players are smart enough to not listen to the coach and play what they know works for them.

EP boys could have won state last year if the players would have disregarded the way Vince wanted them to play.

If the AV coach wins any award, he should decline but his ego will only be falsely inflated.

Even if you have a great feeder program it is still very hard to win 7 State Championships. If it were so easy why have so few schools won so much.

Anonymous said...

Next week Tuesday could be a tough game for AV vs Jefferson. Its on the Jefferson field so it will be tough for the Jags to try and connect pass after pass. Storlien should just have his guys kick the ball long and hard and I bet then they could give AV a run for their money. If they pass, pass, pass they lose by multiple goals. Beat AV at their own game. That is the secret to beating them.

tomASS said...

8:51 - look when they won many of them, developmental years of HS soccer and one of the fastest growing suburbs at the time.

Maybe Scanlon is more of a personal development coach but he is not a soccer coach or trainer.

XMan Games to Watch - Thursday 10/1

Anoka vs. Blaine - 7:00 PM at Blaine High School
Tornadoes have a little more speed but Bengals have tough defense.
Can the Bengals pull an upset over the Tornadoes?
I have Tornadoes 2-1 Bengals.

Osseo vs. Champlin Park - 7:00 PM at Champlin
It's always a good battle either in conference or section.
I have Orioles 2-1 Rebels.

Eagan vs. Lakeville North - 6:00 PM at Lakeville
A fierce battle for #2 spot in Lake conference.
It will be a very evenly matched game.
I have Wildcats 3-2 Panthers.

Eden Prairie vs. Lakeville South - 5:00 PM at Lakeville
The Eagles are fighting for #2 spot as well. Got to keep up with Eagan.
I have Eagles 3-1 Courgars.

Did anyone see the Elk River vs. Champlin game?

Scanlon is a cheerleader. He gets his boys to play hard--and they play tough defense. They approach it like a hockey team with fore-checkers. The guy does not "develop" players into better future players. He trains them to play a system together--and the system is not pretty, but it gets results.

Anonymous said...

Saw Eagan v Kennedy last night. I coached a few of the players when they were younger.

Eagan still appeared to be mentally struggling from two tough losses recently, and barely squeaked out the 2-1 win against a very hard working Kennedy squad.

Kennedy clearly did not have the talent that Eagan has, but the new coach at Kennedy (Bushendorf-sp?) has the boys playing hard. Kudos to the new coach, hope they continue to build on the strong work ethic.

From what I saw and heard from the field, tall captain of Eagan has very little leadership skills and is a negative influence on his teammates. Might be why the team is struggling lately.

get real, the high school season is max two months long with a mixture of ages and skills. there is oftentimes very little "coaching" going on, but more "player management". at many of the top high schools you could insert two dozen "coach x" into the head position and get the same results. conversely, you could take the coaches from all the state title teams over the last ten years and have them coach the weakest teams in the state and i doubt they would get one more victory out of them.

Anonymous said...

I (along with I suspect many others) agree with 1:40. Must be a lot of shrinkage going on.

tomASS said...

1:40 is so accurate with his opinion

242 - the truth is a very cold place at times. Even large snakes hibernate in those conditions

scanlon actually was a summer coach a few years back bringing 2 region teams through.SO if you think he is not a coach, think again. he coaches hardwork and an ass kicking mentality thats all a team needs with a little skill!

Anonymous said...

4:47 - that is why MN teams don't tend to do well at the region level. I applaud him for winning games, but he does not teach the game. he teaches, as you've just said, hard work and an ass kicking mentality. So he could coach any sport, but don't fool yourself if you think he teaches the game.

Anonymous said...

Blah, blah, blah.....
It is so funny to see all of these bitter coaches rail against the successful ones. Who cares what you think?
Notice that the coaches who are right now busy getting their teams ready are not posting here defending themselves. Quit subjecting us, who just want to read some adult conversation on high school soccer, to your self-loathing or anger at your own lack of success.
This is not pro soccer, there are very few real talented players in MN soccer. If a coach can win the state title repeatedly, he IS DOING SOMETHING RIGHT, that's all.

Anonymous said...

4:58 is a retard
hard work and an ass kicking mentality is what every coach wants without that it does not matter how well these kids know the game. Soccer players in Minnesota are soft and not really that athletic so all but a few fail when they play real competitors from other states or at the next level, just look at all the kids that go to div. 1 schools and fail because they are soft and cant hack it so they come back and play MIAC. This is why AV is successful because the coach gets the kids to play hard every night and compete while other teams are busy trying to complete more passes than necessary to attack the other team. If you are not playing to win by now why are you playing, there are no points for style or possession, and the next level for most of these kids is coed rec soccer or not playing at all. So keep the wins coming that's what kids remember, not how well they kept the ball in a losing effort.

tomASS said...

905 - correct he is doing something right. He is not getting in the player's way. So he is a good manager and a cheerleader - but if you were ever a player you know the rah-rah stuff can get old very quickly. I give Kudos to the players

All coaches at the HS level should be playing to win 958. If not, they should not be coaching. I don't know of any that keep track of their possession. Most I know, understand that the scoreboard is the benchmark

958 - I wouldn't piss on the play of the MIAC either. I bet more AV players have played in the MIAC than at the D1 level.

Anonymous said...

ok, I'm a retard if you want to call me that. not a problem. 9:58 I think you make my point when you say MN kids don't compete well at the D1 level. I don't think it's because they are soft, but because they haven't been taught the game. 9:58 why so defensive? You are arguing my point for me and stated it yourself. Do you really believe that MN kids "are soft and not really that athletic so all but a few fail when they play real competitors from other states or at the next level"? is there something in the water? Why would players from any other state just be better athletes. Or, do we just not teach the game at a high level and place all the importance on winning? Yes, winning is important, but so is teaching the game. Maybe he does that too, I've just not heard many of his players say that.

Anonymous said...

Just saying the MIAC is a large step down from D1 and that kids that may have the talent wilt under the competitive atmosphere of D1, And yes our soccer players in Minnesota are inferior athletically to there sporting counterparts, this is the case all over the US though, and the soft part comes from parents, there are to many kids that have never been told no, all many parents do is tell there kids how special they are rather then telling them what needs work. Soccer has a million variations on how you can play so what do you mean by "THE GAME" are we talking about proper fundamentals and being able to play with both feet or are we talking about a certain style you prefer. Sorry about the retard comment I sometimes forget that every post does not need to start with a put down.

Anonymous said...

ok I do play for scanlon and yes he does teach the game and yes he also teaches an asskicking mentality..he's a great coach and is a major contributor to our success. Now can we finally give this subject a rest and move on

Anonymous said...

You can replace Scanlon with a warm body and AV players can still win all the games.

Anonymous said...

BTW, if Chuck Scanlon were a good coach, how come they lost to St. Louis Park last year? The team went from A to AA and took second in state.

tomASS said...

1147 - what has he taught you about the game?

I do applaud your loyalty to your coach

Anonymous said...

Apple Valley lost to SLP last season because they had problems finishing the ball. That game could have very easily been 4 goals deep from AV, but the forwards/mids couldn't finish the ball and a late goal by SLP finished the game. Sometimes that's just how games play out, which is why the score on the board truly matters and not the possession/domination in the field (although they both relate to eachother).

tomASS said...

AV will beat Chaska by double digits unless they have finishing problems

Anonymous said...

Watch out AV, I wouldn't be surprised if Chaska doesn't end someones season. They play rough, at times very dirty, and the parent section is amazingly rude.

Play safe tonight.

Anonymous said...

Classic Lake is up for grabs tonight in Edina. Whoever wins the game between Edina and Armstrong essentially wins the Classic Lake. Sad to see this great conference go.

Anonymous said...

tomASS, you are a great soccer mind. AV will score lots of goals unless they don't score lots of goals. Funny...

Anonymous said...

Armstrong is no match for Edina.

Anonymous said...

hay xman, you follow classic lake or suburban east conference? what's your prediction for them?

Anonymous said...

First one to call it.... Woodbury will lose opening game of Sections!!

Anonymous said...

No match??? What are you smoking? Edina barely won 2-1 at Armstrong. Their center midfielder hit the shot of his life with 8 minutes left to win that game. Edina needs this game. Edina tied the last two Classic Lake games while Armstrong has won the last three. And in addition to that looks like Armstrong's had two games already this week and Edina hasn't played since last Friday.

tomASS said...

1116 - just call me the Yogi Berra of soccer - They will have tons of finishing opportunities tonight that could easily result in a double digit score line for them. How about we leave it at that eh?

1101 - you must be from Rosemount. You the one whining like a little boy that every foul should be a card?

Anonymous said...

Hey tomASS, 11:01 here. I am not a Rosemount parent, but I think I agree with your comment that the Rosemount group is not much better.

Oddly enough, you are not the only person to post that sees multiple games.

Chaska parent shouts to referees, instructions to their kids, and yelling out to opposing players with outragious taunts (including racial and gender), are worse than little boys. It's a fact, I'm not the only one who has noticed this year.

My point was that the team plays rough and at times out of control. If they get behind more than one or two goals, I would not be surprised to see dirty fouls.

Anonymous said...

Whats the deal with Simley? They have been playing well and scoring a lot! From what I've heard, there second year coach is really good (Quinn?). Much better than that Tony England they had before him.
Anyone seen them?

Anonymous said...

tomss...I'll give you the John Madden of soccer i.e. 'a good quarterback needs to throw the ball well,' but Yogi was intentional with his quips.

tomASS said...

oh please no not John Madden! ARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH and I don't think Yogi was always intentional.
Hey just call me Mr. Obvious.

1101 and now 251 - that is why I do not sit with those parents. I know the group whom you speak of. I have yet to hear anything racial though. My next guess is you're a Bloomington Kennedy parent

I see some stupid and reckless fouls but only have seen one out there trying some subtle dirty things. I have seen retaliatory fouls, but don't know if the original fouls that caused the retaliation were caused by Chaska doing some smack talking or not.

Anonymous said...

Simley coach is good, his teams will certainly be fit.

tomASS said...

AV @ Chaska has been cancelled according to my source.

Anonymous said...

i can verify that.

tomASS said...

1101 now 251 - seems a little bit strange that Chaska fans would be racist considering they have about 8-9 Hispanic Boys on the team and most parents sit together

Anonymous said...

What is all the "Scanlon" bashing about? The boys obviously go out every game and give him 110%! He must be doing something right. No one else has a record like him...

Anonymous said...

Coaches envious of his record.....

tomASS said...

442- hardly

Anonymous said...

Who wouldn't be envious of 500+ wins and less than 90 loses?

Anonymous said...

442 .... or just those that have lost to AV? Sad. It's really about teamwork and AV has played as a team - give them credit for what they have accomplished.

tomASS said...

The only thing I would give Scanlon credit for is 33 years. Most marriages don't last that long.

442- I have given the players all the credit they deserve

503 - me that's who

Anonymous said...

Section 2 teams
Armstrong 2 Edina 0
Jefferson 0 Kennedy 0

Its going to be interesting to see who gets the #1 seed

Max said...

Toma$$,
Players come and players go

as every coach should surely know

the only thing that stays the same

is the way the coaches play the game

Anonymous said...

Max, coaches don't play.

Anonymous said...

tomASS, 11:01 again, although it doesn't matter, I'm not a Kennedy parent either.

My point remains the same, even though you don't see it or hear it others do.

If you are a Chaska backer, maybe you could stand up and say something to those "adults", or ask the AD to address them.

By the majority of the posts I've seen from you, I'm guessing you are a fan of the game and support the players. Wouldn't it be great if the spectators stuck to their role of watching the game, let the players play, the coaches coach, and the referees interpret the rules?

Even some of the boys on the field are embarrassed.

XMan Games to Watch - Saturdday 10/3

Elk River vs. Park of Cottage Grove - 7:00 PM at Park of Cottage Grove
The Elks are looking stronger than I had thought earlier.
I have Elks 3-1 Wolfpack.

Osseo vs. Robbinsdale Armstrong - 1:00 PM at Robbinsdale
The Orioles and Falcons are making a strong run lately.
This should be a fun game to watch.
BTW, Armstrong will join Northwest Suburban Conference next year.
There will be no more Classic Lake Conference.
I have Orioles 2-2 Falcons.

Totino-Grace vs. Woodbury - 1:00 PM at Woodbury
We have #2 Class AA vs #1 Class A.
I have Royals 3-1 Eagles

tomASS said...

Max - coaches are given too much credit for wins and receive too much blame for losses.

It really is about the talent and executing on the field. The players have the most control of what goes on in a game.

Me XMan said...

BTW, the Elks will be in Top 10 by next week.

tomASS said...

1101 - I'm a Chaska parent. I have told them to shut-up. I also don't believe them to be racist, knowing their help with the Hispanic boys.

They are just more annoying rather than anything else, but I have seen them be no worse than any other group of soccer parents from other schools at the games I have attended.

Me XMan said...

Anyone got scores for WBL and Stillwater?
I missed to mention this battle for #2 spot in Suburban East conference.
It should be a good game to watch.

Anonymous said...

10:38 that is nothing to brag about!

Anonymous said...

I've both played and coached against Scanlon teams. I don't coach in the conference, so we have only played a few times. The guy wins. Great athletes. In theory, some day soccer in this country will pass him by.

I don't know any coaches that count their career win total. I love to win, but the fun in the game, year after year, is watching the kids.

I'd say the most interesting thing I've learned coaching over the years is what % your soccer skill counts in HS soccer. Mental/Physical toughness is a monster factor, particularly in October. I love watching younger premier players, but I also love watching seniors play with guts on a cold night. Hard to win without the latter sometimes.
