Thanks for starting this! Have been following some of the local players who have moved on to D1 schools. Several have either started or played significant minutes in early exhibition scrimmages/games. Congrats Ladies! And get better soon to those recovering from early season injuries.

KB- who if a series of crazy injuries had not sidetracked her- could have been one of the most successful players to come out of MN, will try one more time at Northwestern this year. Good luck Kelsey!
Some of the signed players don't appear on rosters, such as South Carolina and Ill State. Stories? Where did these kids go?
Looks like some MN freshmen saw good time in early exhibitions, a few benchwarmers, although I've never understood why everyone doesn't get a few minutes during exhibition play....
Marier from Hastings is on roster at South Carolina State. Ill State freshman had ACL tear/surgery and decided not to play soccer away from home. Hear she is at the U "just" being a student.
Freshman defenders from EVHS and BJeff got starting nod at UWGB exhibition games along with powerhouse forward from Armstrong. ND looked strong, fun to watch. All had significant minutes along with forward from WBL. Everyone played so coaches got good looks.
Very few freshman get significant playing time at the major D1 conferences such as ACC,Pac 10,Big 12,Big 10 if any playing time once the regular season starts. A couple may get token time.This is pretty typical.Easier to get playing time at other conferences.
Few freshman are really prepared mentally and physically for the grind of major D1. If you think club play prepares you you are in for a surprise. Tough for frosh to compete with jr/sr women who are more mature mentally and physically and know what to expect and how to really prepare. Just tough two-adays and weight training with trainers is a grind.
Also being away from home not for a week but knowing it's for months,living in dorms with new friends and studying college courses etc is pretty challenging for the frosh.
Going to a college of your choice and getting some scholarship and top notch facilities,equipment and training and a tutor is nice but it still takes emotional and physical adjustments. This isn't always an easy transition for frosh.Better be expert at time management. You better really LOVE soccer.
hmmm...I just think it's great that so many are still playing, whatever the conference. Way to go to the freshies who played at the U this weekend and to those just happy too get a look from the coaches in the other conferences. Good Luck Ladies!

First of all congratulations to all the Minnesota club and high school womens soccer coaches on the number and quality of young ladies playing at all levels of college soccer. The number and amount of reports coming in from different parts of the country from different on line sites and briefly chatting with parents about their freshmen daughters and other classes and attending some local games has been encouraging . And hopely with Univ. Mn. womens program turning the corner to respectablity Minnesota will be come a more rightly considered state for womens soccer talent. Game Tracker by CBS so far best site to follow different womens college programs thru out U.S.
If you play for a mediocre team you will get playing time especially if heavy sr graduation. You need to see how players do over their entire career.CS couldn't get a sniff at ODP or her first couple of years in college yet became NCAA Div 1 player of the year.If a kid is the real deal they will usually be on a team in a major conference like the Pac 10.On a team like UCLA you usually sit for a year or two before you get much playing time.That's the way it is at the major conference level.

hopefully you get to play two years after setting on the bench and you also stay out of trouble and dont run out of restaurants without paying your bill and stay sober in public. That applys to even major conference athletes.

Dooher from Armstrong scores her first collegiate goal this weekend! Unfortunatley UWGB lost 2-1 to Iowa State. Beautiful weather, large crowd, nice venue. UWGB is young and inexperienced but refused to quit against the bigger,stronger and senior loaded Iowa line up. Six freshies on the field for UWGB most of the time. Cool to see strong defensive line made up of MN players: Lyons (Coon Rapids), Szabala (Champlin Park), North (Eastview) and Somers (Jefferson). Interesting to see if tough preseason will translate to wins in Horizon league games.
Lakeville South freshie no longer on Iowa State roster. Rumored that she has quit. Anyone know?
No surprise the SSM results.... the new mexico state player was one the most dynamic players to ever play in state despite two ACLS surgeries. She was a true role model on the field and off. Watched her zip a hat trick against state tourney team Wayzata that allowed less than one goal per game during season before her first ACL surgery. No she wasnt a national over - rated ODP player.
New Mexico State is in the WAC. Here's the list of teams: Louisiana Tech Utah State Idaho Boise State New Mexico State Hawai'i San Jose State Fresno State Nevada I may be wrong, but I believe NMS is a first year D1 program.
Well, the inexperience and lack of size did UWGB in. Not unexpected. Coach packed them in defensively but Marquette was just a better team. Congrats to them. Nice to see some support from the Gopher Ladies who watched the first half and had friends playing. Wishing them luck in wisconsin!
Does anyone know why L Hermann (Eagan grad) who played the last three years at N Dakota and would have been a senior this year is no longer on the roster?
The LS Frosh at Iowa state has a lingering medical problem and the team doctor would not allow her to play. She advised the coach she was giving up soccer and left the team. To continue education at Iowa State.
Minnesota is doing a much better job developing players. One thing overlooked is that a gazillion kids choose hockey. Only a couple of other states have to compete with hockey. Hockey players are great athletes in great shape.Most would be excellent soccer players. Hockey really shrinks the pool of potential soccer players. Minnesota is doing a good job.
Does anyone know how KB at Northwestern is doing? There were such high hopes for her. The stat sheet only shows her getting into a few games. I'm assuming she has not fully recovered from last year's injury.
Now that the season is over word is out that some players are looking to return closer to home. Several UWGB players rumored to be leaving for various reasons: poor grades, homesick, playing time and lack of campus life.
Now this is funny to hear. All those bangu parents B*%$#ing about Shattuck kids and what not. Look who is coming home now cuz they werent ready mentally!! This is too funny.
Anon 5:11 Double check your facts. Two UWGB MN freshmen listed Bangu as one of their club teams. One of those players cites 4 state cup championships with Bangu. No reason to not be completely accurate.
Dude, if your gonna live on that forever, I feel sorry for you!! Might of been a better game if your coach would of played the game the way its suppose to be played. Maybe the players wouldnt be quitting college to run back home to mommy if they were coached to play the game correctly.

So what are the transfer rules exactly? If a DI recruited athlete signed a NLI they have to stay for one academic year to avoid penalty, right? But if athlete asks for release so she can talk to lower Division coaches about possible transfer for the next year can the current coach refuse? Can that decision be appealed?
Signed NLI, enrolled,played one season, was starter. Wants to leave the school for various reasons. Will stay the year if she has to in order to honor NLI contract but wants to get a release to talk with coaches in order to look for scholarship for next year. Coach granted releases for two non-starters already but said no to this player. Supposedly there will be several more players leaving.
Most coaches would probably release a player if they in fact felt that player was contributing nothing to the team. The Kallman transfer from WV couldnt have been that as she received a lot of honors. Maybe there's another way out?
A scholarship shouldn't be the only reason you stick with a program. Nothing could be worse than to be trapped in a program that for whatever reason you want out. Life is too short. I know of players that like the college but hate the soccer but stick with it because of the cost of tuition. Some kids want to transfer after a couple of years . Maybe they want to change majors or maybe they just want a change of scenery. That's ok. Things change in life all the time. Most parents want their kid to have a great college experience. If cost is a factor let the kid get a student loan. Heck, soccer is only going to be a memory like all the other sports when you get out of college.

Saturday Jan. 9th it was announced in Big Soccer .com in recruiting section that the number 1# recruit in the nation for the 2009 class Kim Castleberry after producing 2 goals and 1 assists in the 10 games she was allowed to play in is transferring from Texas A.M. to TCU. Another example of highly touted heralded athlete not producing expected results and being asked to leave program. Dozens of other aware of from Miami, North Carolina ect.and sign of student athletes deciding too soon to verbally agree to go to certain school.
so you know for a fact that it was for "under-performance"? how do you know it wasn't for academics or prefering to be the DFW metroplex vs college station. please let us all know who your sources are.
duh..... full ride scholarship for 10 games played and 2 goals and one assist. If you were head coach what were you going to do,.... reduce scholarship amount,... you were number one recruit what would you do... transfer to lesser program that would give you more than what you were offered second year at A.M. A Miami freshmen with ties to minnesota released ... should be checked out by local coaches for availabilty. This year and past because increased number of students transfering after just one season,,, NCCA pondering changes in recruiting rules. Go to NCCA office for more imformation of growing problem of early commitments and increasing number of transfers. The student athletes not taking the five offical visits hurting some of athletes on making best decision and increasing chances of having to transfer.

If I had to make a guess, I would say that the posts above seem to have been thought out, researched, and "in the know". But, can say that for sure.
Either way, the point I take away from the post is that even once you get to school on your scholarship- you have to produce. It IS a business and you have to uphold your end of the bargain or find an new "job".

no one is debating that the young later has tranferred to TCU - that's a fact. why she transferred (unless someone has some first hand knowledge) - is strictly conjecture. unfortunately, that won't stop some from painting their own picture.
so do you know for a fact that Texas A&M pulled her scholarship???? that very well could be true, the point that i am trying to make is that unless you have hard evidence that confirms it, you are doing nothing but creating false accusations. in legal tersm this is also called libel. unless you have some proof tread lightly....

In litigation, the falsity of the libelous statements or representations, as well the intention of malice, has to be proved for there to be libel. In addition, financial damages to the parties so libeled must be incurred as a result of the material in question for there to be an assessment of the amount of damages to be awarded to a claimant. This is contrasted to slander, which is defamation through the spoken word.
So, unless you can prove the intention of malice you have no case. Also, I don't see where (even if there was libel here) there can be any financial damages to the young lady which makes it impossible to make any sort of award.
Topic mentioned interested me so checked A.M. stats. Player mentioned had 42 shots but only 2 goals. A team mate with 31 shots had 6 goals. Apparently player might be trying to live up to expectations and pressing her play. Sometimes player with that much hype and stature plays too individually when opposite should be done. Some college defenders have been playing together for as much as four years together and simply smarter and create poor angles for shots even though offensive player might have better speed and soccer skills. Until player adjustes to more team play wont realize her true potential.

Lists starting lineups and what grade starters were in top forty teams in nation. Be hard for gophers to crack top three next year in big ten and last chance for NCCA bid and after that tough to get NCCA invite for several years.
OK... The 2010 recruiting season is essentially wrapped up. There are no more quality players unspoken for (unless a foreign player pops up such as Lucy Bronze in 2009.) (A 2011 thread should be started as that is where all of the action is now.)
But to wrap up, below is my 2010 class ratings as of 12/28/09. (Based on the system outlined above.)
There's not much to separate the first three (PSU, UNC, Cal) and the next four (UCLA, ND, Michigan, Stanford) are close behind. After that there are no big gaps, but a steady regression in quality in small increments.
And here's the "point" system used by the Big Soccer contributor... 10= US National Team or very strong leader on US national youth team (ie a 90-minute player of note) 9= Member of a US national youth team (traveled with a US national youth team U-16 or up) or foreign NT 8= US national pool (U-16 or up) or foreign national youth team player 7= US U-15 national pool (only) or foreign national youth team pool (any age) 6= Regional ODP Travel team (ODP interregional play or ODP international travel) 5= ODP Camp (only) or National High School Stand-Out (All-American) 4= Strong club player on team advancing in regional (inter-state) play 3= Strong club player on strong club team at state level or state high school standout 2= Strong player local Club 1= Courtesy recruit, or unknown
imo giving a foreign NT (usually Canada) as much weight as a US national youth team is questionable. nothing against our friends from up north, but there is a player pool here in the US that is roughly 15x larger than Canada (as was written previously the state of California has more female youth soccer players than all of Canada). this might also be why some schools are ranked higher than others (especially B10 schools). BTW - some schools consistently rank high on these lists (PSU, Cal, etc...) and rarely finish in the top 10 (please no history lessons from many years ago). Notre Dame football has been in the top 5 for the last 4 years and didn't even make it to a bowl game. These lists do make great internet fodder however - or provide ammunition for the 2-3 extremely persistent anti-MN/MDW folks.
How is it one person's ranking? The number assignments seem pretty straight forward regarding players. Then you average the incoming class to get a class ranking. How is that one person's ranking?
If you read the blog entries the entire ranking system was put together by some one named "soccerhunter" (who would also appear to have a lot of free time on his hands). It's his/hers rankings not something official by Big Soccer. i.e. - one person's ranking system.
Are you freaking kidding me? Everything is something made up by a person?!
The ranking system, while maybe not absolutely scientifically bulletproof, is very clear and does not require any human interpretation or allow personal bias. The recruits either have the credentials to earn a particular point total or they don't.
Seems like a very interesting and logical way to look at recruiting classes. But, I guess the logical part doesn't sit well within a MN soccer blog.
8:22 - the point that I am trying to make is that the ranking system that is being discussed was devised by one person. someone named "soccerhunter". it is his/her system. as mentioned he/she gave as much weight to a U17 NT player from Mexico as he did a U17 NT player from the US (same with a NT player from T&T). it is one person's subjective analysis. not saying it is right or wrong, but that it is one person's pov. do you at least agree on that?
It's just some guy on a blog throwing in his two cents and folks are referencing it like its some NCAA accredited fact findings. Perspective people, perspective.
So, you can also assume that a player from another National Team is not as high quality player as those from the US?
International level players are international level players. Until the US consistently wins World Cups at all levels, I think we can assume other countries NT players are consistent with the level of the US players.

You can set your watch that within another day or two we'll read yet another post about how the U and MDW doesn't recruit hard enough, why doesn't she go after kids across the nation, PW at WI and GR at MI are leaving everyone in the dust, the Kelter girls from Alaska, etc....
7:14 here, and I did not post any of the posts you credit me with. I just don't necessarily believe that you should throw out the baby with the bath water on this one. Sure, some guy made up the tool- but it is a tool which assists to "rate" (if you will) the incoming recruits for various colleges. If it is flawed, it is flawed for everyone and thus has the same net result.

Woodbury SC could have had one but the girls are from all over and I am sure they wanted to be with their HS teammates and friends. Every girl who wanted a scholarship (all but one), got a scholarship.
I would agree with a modified version of your statement. I would agree that all but one has found a team to play for in College. I would not agree that everyone got a scholarship, as none of us would have the information proving this. Everyone claims to get scholarships, but few actually do and even fewer get anything significant for their freshman year. It is simply a lie which we all tell each other to make our efforts seem worthwhile.
11:37 Not so, exactly. If a player signs a NLI, there is scholarship money involved. More and more programs are foregoing stating who signs a NLI and who is a recruited "walk on" (in which case they sign some other form). Often, the players are lumped as one in the "signing" press release.
To be able to announce that all are "signing" a lot of coaches throw a couple hundred dollars at a recruited walk-on just so they can "sign" and the players aren't embarrassed at not receiving a scholarship. Kind of makes a joke of it all.
Someone thinks: (a) their DD is special and no one else could possibly get the same (or more) from another school; or (b) their DD did not get a scholarship and there is no way all of those "inferior" players did. Truth: virtually all of the signees received substantial offers.
They deserve your applause, and the fact that you call them (and their parents and coaches) liars or jokes says more about your shortcomings than theirs.
If I understand the DI process corectly, there are only 14 full scholarships (if I am wrong would someone please correct me). If most teams roster a minimum of 20-22 and some upto 26-28, unless other monies are being included (academic/financial) that it's tough for everything to add up. Say a mimimum of 4 kids are getting 100% (is this reasonable?), that now leaves only 10 full scholarships for the balance of the team. Obviously some must be walk-ons (nothing wrong with that) but that still would mean on average everyone else is getting roughly 50%.
Here is what Michigan State does to differentiate the scholarship players and non-scholarship players:

Courtney Clem (Williamston, Mich.), Kelsey Mullen (Okemos, Mich.) and Annie Steinlage (Grand Haven, Mich.) all signed National Letters of Intent and will join the Spartans in the fall of 2010. In addition, Chelsey Miller (Okemos, Mich.) has accepted her offer of admission to MSU.
This makes it pretty clear who is signing a National Letter of Intent.
It's pretty simple, really. Say a D1 roster has 25 players, which is about average in D1..Take 14/25 and you've got an average of 56%. Obviosly upperclassmen skew upwards of the 56% and frosh/sophomores skew down from the 56% average. A "can't miss" recruit may get up to 70% at some schools, but other coaches may not go over 50% for ANY newcomer. It's all pretty simple, just rather confusing, depending upon dozens of factors. Got it?
The Inferno commitments are the most impressive team results in MN history. The 2011s are more spread out, but collectively they are continuing the hugely successful run by MN girls the past few years. Way to go girls!!
I started this negatively spiraling line of commentary. My intent was not to belittle anyone, but to point out a fact. Everyone claims that their kid got this and got that. Some do, but most do not.
The math doesn't lie. There are very few kids in Region 2, let alone Minnesota who will garner big time % deals at any programs of stature. I promise you that no one in the 2009-2011 years are getting more than 70% at any top 20 Division 1 school.

Looks like some MN freshmen saw good time in early exhibitions, a few benchwarmers, although I've never understood why everyone doesn't get a few minutes during exhibition play....
Marier from Hastings is on roster at South Carolina State. Ill State freshman had ACL tear/surgery and decided not to play soccer away from home. Hear she is at the U "just" being a student.
Not sure what happened to GK at Milwaukee.
Freshman defenders from EVHS and BJeff got starting nod at UWGB exhibition games along with powerhouse forward from Armstrong. ND looked strong, fun to watch. All had significant minutes along with forward from WBL. Everyone played so coaches got good looks.
Very few freshman get significant playing time at the major D1 conferences such as ACC,Pac 10,Big 12,Big 10 if any playing time once the regular season starts. A couple may get token time.This is pretty typical.Easier to get playing time at other conferences.
Few freshman are really prepared mentally and physically for the grind of major D1. If you think club play prepares you you are in for a surprise. Tough for frosh to compete with jr/sr women who are more mature mentally and physically and know what to expect and how to really prepare. Just tough two-adays and weight training with trainers is a grind.
Also being away from home not for a week but knowing it's for months,living in dorms with new friends and studying college courses etc is pretty challenging for the frosh.
Going to a college of your choice and getting some scholarship and top notch facilities,equipment and training and a tutor is nice but it still takes emotional and physical adjustments. This isn't always an easy transition for frosh.Better be expert at time management. You better really LOVE soccer.
At this D1 level it's all about "just win baby".
hmmm...I just think it's great that so many are still playing, whatever the conference. Way to go to the freshies who played at the U this weekend and to those just happy too get a look from the coaches in the other conferences. Good Luck Ladies!

First of all congratulations to all the Minnesota
club and high school womens soccer coaches
on the number and quality of young ladies playing at all levels of college soccer. The number and amount of reports coming in from different parts of the country from different on line sites and briefly chatting with parents about their freshmen daughters and other classes and attending some local games has been encouraging . And hopely with Univ. Mn. womens program turning the corner to respectablity Minnesota will be come a more rightly considered state for womens soccer talent.

If you play for a mediocre team you will get playing time especially if heavy sr graduation. You need to see how players do over their entire career.CS couldn't get a sniff at ODP or her first couple of years in college yet became NCAA Div 1 player of the year.If a kid is the real deal they will usually be on a team in a major conference like the Pac 10.On a team like UCLA you usually sit for a year or two before you get much playing time.That's the way it is at the major conference level.

Dooher from Armstrong scores her first collegiate goal this weekend! Unfortunatley UWGB lost 2-1 to Iowa State. Beautiful weather, large crowd, nice venue. UWGB is young and inexperienced but refused to quit against the bigger,stronger and senior loaded Iowa line up. Six freshies on the field for UWGB most of the time. Cool to see strong defensive line made up of MN players: Lyons (Coon Rapids), Szabala (Champlin Park), North (Eastview) and Somers (Jefferson). Interesting to see if tough preseason will translate to wins in Horizon league games.
Lakeville South freshie no longer on Iowa State roster. Rumored that she has quit. Anyone know?

No surprise the SSM results.... the new mexico state player was one the most dynamic players to ever play in state despite two ACLS surgeries. She was a true role model on the field and off. Watched her zip a hat trick against state tourney team Wayzata that allowed less than one goal per game during season before her first ACL surgery. No she wasnt a national over - rated ODP player.
The hat trick occured in less than twenty minutes of play.
What league is New Mexico State in?

The LS Frosh at Iowa state has a lingering medical problem and the team doctor would not allow her to play. She advised the coach she was giving up soccer and left the team. To continue education at Iowa State.

Minnesota is doing a much better job developing players. One thing overlooked is that a gazillion kids choose hockey. Only a couple of other states have to compete with hockey. Hockey players are great athletes in great shape.Most would be excellent soccer players. Hockey really shrinks the pool of potential soccer players. Minnesota is doing a good job.

So what are the transfer rules exactly? If a DI recruited athlete signed a NLI they have to stay for one academic year to avoid penalty, right? But if athlete asks for release so she can talk to lower Division coaches about possible transfer for the next year can the current coach refuse? Can that decision be appealed?
Best to contact NCAA and get info first hand.
If the coach was really a coach, they would help that player look for another school. Too bad it didnt work out.

Signed NLI, enrolled,played one season, was starter. Wants to leave the school for various reasons. Will stay the year if she has to in order to honor NLI contract but wants to get a release to talk with coaches in order to look for scholarship for next year. Coach granted releases for two non-starters already but said no to this player. Supposedly there will be several more players leaving.

Most coaches would probable release the player as long as they were not going to another school in the conference they compete in.
Most coaches would probably release a player if they in fact felt that player was contributing nothing to the team. The Kallman transfer from WV couldnt have been that as she received a lot of honors. Maybe there's another way out?
A scholarship shouldn't be the only reason you stick with a program. Nothing could be worse than to be trapped in a program that for whatever reason you want out. Life is too short. I know of players that like the college but hate the soccer but stick with it because of the cost of tuition.
Some kids want to transfer after a couple of years . Maybe they want to change majors or maybe they just want a change of scenery. That's ok. Things change in life all the time. Most parents want their kid to have a great college experience. If cost is a factor let the kid get a student loan. Heck, soccer is only going to be a memory like all the other sports when you get out of college.

Saturday Jan. 9th it was announced in Big Soccer .com in recruiting section that the number 1# recruit in the nation for the 2009 class Kim Castleberry after producing 2 goals and 1 assists in the 10 games she was allowed to play in is transferring from Texas A.M. to TCU. Another example of highly touted heralded athlete not producing expected results and being asked to leave program. Dozens of other aware of from Miami, North Carolina ect.and sign of student athletes deciding too soon to verbally agree to go to certain school.
so you know for a fact that it was for "under-performance"? how do you know it wasn't for academics or prefering to be the DFW metroplex vs college station. please let us all know who your sources are.

duh..... full ride scholarship for 10 games played and 2 goals and one assist. If you were head coach what were you going to do,.... reduce scholarship amount,... you were number one recruit what would you do... transfer to lesser program that would give you more than what you were offered second year at A.M. A Miami freshmen with ties to minnesota released ... should be checked out by local coaches for availabilty. This year and past because increased number of students transfering after just one season,,, NCCA pondering changes in recruiting rules. Go to NCCA office for more imformation of growing problem of early commitments and increasing number of transfers. The student athletes not taking the five offical visits hurting some of athletes on making best decision and increasing chances of having to transfer.

If I had to make a guess, I would say that the posts above seem to have been thought out, researched, and "in the know". But, can say that for sure.
Either way, the point I take away from the post is that even once you get to school on your scholarship- you have to produce. It IS a business and you have to uphold your end of the bargain or find an new "job".

why she transferred (unless someone has some first hand knowledge) - is strictly conjecture.

So, unless you can prove the intention of malice you have no case. Also, I don't see where (even if there was libel here) there can be any financial damages to the young lady which makes it impossible to make any sort of award.
But, just like everything else on this blog you:

Topic mentioned interested me so checked A.M. stats. Player mentioned had 42 shots but only 2 goals. A team mate with 31 shots had 6 goals. Apparently player might be trying to live up to expectations and pressing her play. Sometimes player with that much hype and stature plays too individually when opposite should be done. Some college defenders have been playing together for as much as four years together and simply smarter and create poor angles for shots even though offensive player might have better speed and soccer skills. Until player adjustes to more team play wont realize her true potential.

imo giving a foreign NT (usually Canada) as much weight as a US national youth team is questionable. nothing against our friends from up north, but there is a player pool here in the US that is roughly 15x larger than Canada (as was written previously the state of California has more female youth soccer players than all of Canada). this might also be why some schools are ranked higher than others (especially B10 schools).
BTW - some schools consistently rank high on these lists (PSU, Cal, etc...) and rarely finish in the top 10 (please no history lessons from many years ago).
Notre Dame football has been in the top 5 for the last 4 years and didn't even make it to a bowl game.
These lists do make great internet fodder however - or provide ammunition for the 2-3 extremely persistent anti-MN/MDW folks.
Gophers only graduated two players from 2008, therefore they only have a couple of players coming in which makes a ranking impossible.
Rankings are done by 1-3 people and are meaningless.
Canadian NT's have had a low success rate historically in the us women's college game.

How is it one person's ranking? The number assignments seem pretty straight forward regarding players. Then you average the incoming class to get a class ranking. How is that one person's ranking?
If you read the blog entries the entire ranking system was put together by some one named "soccerhunter" (who would also appear to have a lot of free time on his hands). It's his/hers rankings not something official by Big Soccer. i.e. - one person's ranking system.

The ranking system, while maybe not absolutely scientifically bulletproof, is very clear and does not require any human interpretation or allow personal bias. The recruits either have the credentials to earn a particular point total or they don't.
Seems like a very interesting and logical way to look at recruiting classes. But, I guess the logical part doesn't sit well within a MN soccer blog.
8:22 - the point that I am trying to make is that the ranking system that is being discussed was devised by one person. someone named "soccerhunter". it is his/her system. as mentioned he/she gave as much weight to a U17 NT player from Mexico as he did a U17 NT player from the US (same with a NT player from T&T).
it is one person's subjective analysis. not saying it is right or wrong, but that it is one person's pov. do you at least agree on that?

International level players are international level players. Until the US consistently wins World Cups at all levels, I think we can assume other countries NT players are consistent with the level of the US players.

7:14 here, and I did not post any of the posts you credit me with. I just don't necessarily believe that you should throw out the baby with the bath water on this one. Sure, some guy made up the tool- but it is a tool which assists to "rate" (if you will) the incoming recruits for various colleges. If it is flawed, it is flawed for everyone and thus has the same net result.

Woodbury SC could have had one but the girls are from all over and I am sure they wanted to be with their HS teammates and friends. Every girl who wanted a scholarship (all but one), got a scholarship.
I would agree with a modified version of your statement. I would agree that all but one has found a team to play for in College. I would not agree that everyone got a scholarship, as none of us would have the information proving this. Everyone claims to get scholarships, but few actually do and even fewer get anything significant for their freshman year. It is simply a lie which we all tell each other to make our efforts seem worthwhile.
If the college publicizes the signing and the coach lauds the incoming player, a scholarship is involved.

If a player signs a NLI, there is scholarship money involved.
More and more programs are foregoing stating who signs a NLI and who is a recruited "walk on" (in which case they sign some other form).
Often, the players are lumped as one in the "signing" press release.
scholarships can range from a few dollars to 100%. Most are well below 50%.
To be able to announce that all are "signing" a lot of coaches throw a couple hundred dollars at a recruited walk-on just so they can "sign" and the players aren't embarrassed at not receiving a scholarship. Kind of makes a joke of it all.
Someone thinks: (a) their DD is special and no one else could possibly get the same (or more) from another school; or (b) their DD did not get a scholarship and there is no way all of those "inferior" players did. Truth: virtually all of the signees received substantial offers.
They deserve your applause, and the fact that you call them (and their parents and coaches) liars or jokes says more about your shortcomings than theirs.

Define "substantial offers". Is that 50%, 60%, 75%, 80%, 100%?
If I understand the DI process corectly, there are only 14 full scholarships (if I am wrong would someone please correct me). If most teams roster a minimum of 20-22 and some upto 26-28, unless other monies are being included (academic/financial) that it's tough for everything to add up. Say a mimimum of 4 kids are getting 100% (is this reasonable?), that now leaves only 10 full scholarships for the balance of the team. Obviously some must be walk-ons (nothing wrong with that) but that still would mean on average everyone else is getting roughly 50%.
If a coach wants a player bad enough they will work with admin and find a creative way to come up with 5/10 grand. Happens all the time.
Here is what Michigan State does to differentiate the scholarship players and non-scholarship players:

It's pretty simple, really. Say a D1 roster has 25 players, which is about average in D1..Take 14/25 and you've got an average of 56%. Obviosly upperclassmen skew upwards of the 56% and frosh/sophomores skew down from the 56% average. A "can't miss" recruit may get up to 70% at some schools, but other coaches may not go over 50% for ANY newcomer. It's all pretty simple, just rather confusing, depending upon dozens of factors. Got it?
The Inferno commitments are the most impressive team results in MN history. The 2011s are more spread out, but collectively they are continuing the hugely successful run by MN girls the past few years. Way to go girls!!
So far the Inferno is 0 for 1 in playing time in college. That's one player/one year and no minutes at Iowa State. Hope the others fare much better!

And then you used UMD as your example. Nothing against UMD, but they are not division 1 and scholarship structures are much different at the D 1 and D 2 levels.
