jefferson had the ball more and moved it nicely in the first half where their goal took place. second half was a different story jefferson stopped playing their game and edina took over. the ball was in jeffersons half the majority of the second half but due to good defense didnt allow any good shots and the keeper had to make minimal easy saves.
Jefferson 1 Edina 0 1st half game was played even with the edge on scoring chances to Edina. Jefferson scored in the second on a weak header leaving the goalie standing flat footed. After that Edina dominated the final 30min. jefferson palyed boot ball the entire 2nd half and was loading all 11 players in the box and Edina could not find a way in. Edinas defensive strategy backfired. Playing their 3rd game in 3 days i was very impressed with edina.
Easiest schedule s/b over. Next week should give a really good idea where are good teams.
No one gave Osseo and St. Louis Park the chance to be in State Championship game this time last year. It was all Jags and AV and how they were so good. Ya right.
I know this is the wrong topic but: Does anybody know the status of the SSM coaching staff? Madigan, Brunt and Craig are no longer in Faribault. Any new coaches, etc? Thanks
About St. Paul Central, they are not a good team. Their strategy is, kick it as far as you can. They really don't have any technically sound players whatsoever. I don't see them getting anywhere in October.
The little general cleaned house after the boys teams didn't perform well at State Cup. It wasn't his fault of course...it was the other coaches who were to blame.
St.Paul Central 1 Edina 4. Edina started subbing in the middle of the 1st half. By the 20 minute point of the second half almost all starters were out. Goal came with no starters in. What was all the hoopla, Edina didn't even play very well. It was their 5th game in 9 days.
Eden Prairie vs. Apple Valley - 5:00 PM at Johnny Cake Ridge Soccer Compl This should be boot balls galore game. Counter-attacks after counter-attacks. I'll give to the best bootballers. EP Eagles 2-1 AV Eagles.
Elk River vs. Blaine - 7:00 PM at Blaine Elks should have some sort of decent midfield game against the Bengals. Elks 3-1 Bengals.
Hopkins vs. Edina - 5:00 PM at Hopkins Royals could be the darkhorse this year. Hornets will have to fight hard and I mean physical. Royals 2-1 Hornets.
Robbinsdale Armstrong vs. Wayzata - 7:00 PM at Wayzata, MN Trojans are overrated in the poll. They both don't have the firepowers to dominate. Falcons 1-1 Trojans.
no way EP beats Valley this year, core groups of both of these teams have played in summer ball numerous times since the kids were 12 years old and EP has never beaten AV, plus after last year I'm sure AV wants a little revenge
HAHA very average!?!?!?!?!? they have 8 players who played on the U17 state cup champions and MRL 1st division champs, Goalie, 2 D, 3 Mid, 2 ST, yes they are not the entire VLY summer team but 7 of the 8 are starters on that team and I would put this "average" HS team up against any HS team from MN ever, they are that good
The EPL has a lot of teams that play very direct. The England Natl Team is also very direct. Possession soccer is not the only way to play. In the women's game UNC is more direct then any girls HS team I have ever seen play. Go watch the Big Ten Champion Gophers and they play very direct. I will challenge you to find 5 passes in a row at Robbie this year.
7:26 you are a retarded AV parent. The summer team is also an average team. They finished 4th in MN league play. MRL does not have top teams/players from Region 2 involved anymore. The are in the USSF academy system. Get off your high horse. There are some good players on the team, but as a whole, they play bang-it and run soccer. The summer team is fairly well organized and spend a lot of time on set pieces...which does play into their strength of a few very good athletes on the team. A few of the players will be average D3 players, one or two, if they continue to look for other development opportunities, may have a chance to play lower level D1. This year's AV team is not in the top 20 compared to historical HS teams.
do you really think that MN league play was a high priority, or really meant all that much to those boys after state cup and regions and MRL, league play was used to get playing time to all the players and to work on other things to get ready for the things that really mattered, league play was not a high priority, same as SCV boys the year before other things become much more important as the season goes on
for WSD and BHK and others league play was all they had left after MRL was not favorable and state cup did not go as they anticipated
1. Apple Valley 2. Woodbury 3. Eden Prairie 4. Bloomington Jefferson 5. Edina 6. Minneapolis Southwest 7. Coon Rapids 8. Anoka 9. Eagan 10.Stillwater Others: Osseo, Cretin-Derham Hall
New to Top 10 (9/7 rank): 2. Woodbury 3. Eden Prairie 5. Edina 6. Minneapolis Southwest 8. Anoka 9. Eagan
Out of Top 10 (pre-season rank): 2. Osseo 4. St. Paul Central 5. St. Louis Park 7. Wayzata 8. Cretin-Derham Hall 10.Minneapolis South
Shows how much of a waste of time the Pre-season poll is.
"I will challenge you to find 5 passes in a row at Robbie this year."
Teams and players that aren't very good play direct. England isn't as good as Spain, so they don't pass the ball as much as Spain. It's not coaching. It's the players. Coaches might realize their players aren't very good, so they have their team play direct.
Spain MNT, Argentina MNT, Brazil MNT, Barcelona FC pass the ball around because their players are the best and have the ability to do so.
US MNT, Lady Gophers, Valley High play direct because their players aren't very good and they don't have the ability to string 5 passes in a row.
If you disagree, you're kidding yourself. Playing direct or playing defensive is a result of not being good enough to possess.
The top 10 is a bit of joke considering only 9 coaches from the boys side actually even voted. I wonder how many of these coaches coach at one of the above listed schools.
So Valley tried to lose the premier league ? I think Bhks and wsd are better teams than valley, they play better stuff that is for sure. Like scv the year before, boot ball can be defended against and teams figure it out. Valley won state cup but didnt play bhk or wsd.
Nice try 10:38. VLY were lucky lucky to win state cup. In a very watered down and diluted age group. Many average teams, no really good teams. Winning MRL 1st division is like winning the Dakota Rev invitational. No teams in the 1st division were finalist in their state. A few weren't even semi-finalists. SCV has a little more to be proud of as they finished near the top of the Premier MRL, but still not much of an accomplishment as USSF academy and national league have all of the strong players and teams. Quit living through your son, especially since, chances are, he isn't really that good.
I watched the TG-BSM game. It goes to show that BSM does not have it this year. It was billed as #1 vs. #2 and boy it was a blowout. Only one team showed up tonight. I left after PY scored the third goal and made BSM looked like ....it was pretty goal and that did it for me. go watch a TG game this year and you won't regret.
1. Apple Valley 2. Woodbury 3. Eden Prairie 4. Bloomington Jefferson 5. Edina 6. Minneapolis Southwest 7. Coon Rapids 8. Anoka 9. Eagan 10. Stillwater Others: Osseo, Cretin-Derham Hall
I would id myself - bigger man - I was at the game but why leave when both teams I have players whom I coached playing on both sides. Young Ryan H-TG is a player to watch this year and next 3 years. John J. at BSM good defender - good kid. BSM is well-coached and would come back by season's end. They will get Dave's majic and he will whip those lads in shape. Dave is well respected coach and yesterday was just another day on the job. I have been there! The season is too young to start throwing accolades when things can change by October - any doubters? JY
On there web site: September 9, 2009 Forfeited Games. Today we've found that one of our varsity player is ineligible to play. So we will forfeit our last three games. It's better for us to find out now before the real conference and section games.
10:02, That's right. Regular season games are meaningless. Everyone makes the playoffs. There's nothing on the line except for section seeding. You still have to beat the best to be the best. Home field means nothing in high school soccer.
It's too bad the regular season didn't have more significance outside of individual awards, but even those are usually determined before the season begins.
Watched a couple of Armstrong games so far this year (Benilde/Wayzata.), they are struggling at defense. All of their defenders are small and unimposing and get shoved off the ball by physical attackers. They looked great against Wayzata, It looked like half of their team was playing on the back line. I’m looking forward to watching the Edina vs. Armstrong game next week, I saw the game last year at Edina and I can tell you without a doubt that these two teams hate each other, probably the coaches as well.
10:02 here I would love to engage you in an arguement that you obviously are looking for, but...the post was taken directly from the Osseo Boys Soccer web page. Your gripe might be with the Osseo coaches/administrators.
But if your really looking for a bone to chew on how about the issue of "super" and "super duper" seniors. Your kid can't move to a better school and continue to play but he can be 21 when he graduates and be "Mr. Soccer" does that make any sense to anyone?
Was at the game and Anoka should have scored 5 or 6 goals. got to give ER credit as they were out sized and out played but hung in there and played to get a tie. ER actually lead until 20 min left in the game. Got a real good kid up front and a really smart kid as a sweep. Will be stronger upcoming years. (Anoka Parent)
A super senior is a student in an American four-year educational institution such as a high school who is in his or her fifth year. A super duper senior is a student in a institiution such as a high school who is in his or her sixth year.
So, you can play high school sport and actually be 20 years old. Most of these students have been acedemically ineligible during various times of their high school career.
JY, those a class A players you are referring to. Anyone can stand out playing Our-sister-of-Mercy and Anywhere-outstate-MN. Expect for the top 3 or 4 teams, class A is garbage.
VLY are an average HS team compared to the past 10 year of boys HS soccer. There is a lot of parity this year, again, and we'll see what happens once sectionals start.
Who be this Gucci Mane lookin boy 9/4/09 11:25 AM B-Town holla, jefferson bs. bra im from the A and we lay down punks like you my home, westside zone 1 bankhead all day!
Champlin Park 3, Coon Rapids 1 Anoka 1, Osseo 0 Centennial 3, Elk River 1
I don't believe these scores. Anoka has many Premier/C1 players so beating Osseo is about right. But CR and ER lost? Anyone at these games? NWSC is a tough conference.
Osseo lost to a pk in the first half. Solid call, just poor defending. They struggle with coachingability and the lack of offense in the attacking third. They have only a couple of solid players (premier) most are c2 at best. A coach with some soccer ability might put something to together that woudl resemble a team. But no comparision to last years talent.
being direct or not, its whatever fit's your teams needs. AV and EP plays direct not because they dont have the talent to play possesion but because they are good at it. I have played AV and EP teams in Indoor soccer and sure its a small field and its different gameplay from outdoor but they can still possess, right? I graduated and i have had experience playing against these teams, and im not here to brag or choose teams, but im saying those schools that play direct soccer are those who are good at it. Many other schools are good at possession because that's what they learned to play. Example: Burnsville, Lakeville North, Lakevill SOuth, Edina, BSM, TG, Jefferson. It's H.S soccer, competitive but should be fun and let the players play how they want to play. For those who get the chance to play ODP or College Soccer, it will be different cause thats more of the competitive side. H.S soccer is meant to have fun. Yes college scouts come watch you play but you can have fun while your competing.
burnsville's game play has changed because of there new coaching staff tony englund. It's boot ball, and they are not good at it. They have many talented players just better coaching staff. Lakeville north, i agree many talented players and they can possess. And your right AV and EP are not just only boot ball. They are amazing at ball handle and possession.
Second off, H.S soccer is ALL ABOUT COMPETITION. If you watch FOOTBALL, HOCKEY, people get into that. Soccer because its not a popular sport in the U.S. No one cares, So H.S coaches and players play competitve because they want the sport to stick out, and have that progress into college ball and pros.
And You said you played? maybe your just jealous that whatever team you played for wasn't good enough or you never started. stay in college (thats if your in college) and dont talk soccer. You dont know what your talking about between and fun and competition. Like i said, schools like AV EP Edina, BSM. TG, LN,LS Chaska, wayzata, take it serious year round. No such thing as fun in H.S soccer
so if your going to blog, blog about something you know your talking about. don't just ramble on about something that aren't true.
direct or "bootball" soccer is in many ways the only option since most high school teams play on football fields which are upwards of 15 yards narrower versus a traditional 80 x 120 yard field. the lack of width compresses the field and open space out on the pitch. in many ways, the only choice is to go north-south since there isn't a lot of east-west.
This "boot ball" subject comes up every fall and this strategy will never go away. We just have to live with it and bear it out. Watching games from other states like WI and IL and they're doing the same thing. It's not just only in MN.
Eric Miller from Woodbury is the best Minnesota-born player in the state. He is fun to watch, and is a complete player. Plus, he's (really) only a junior.
On the topic of "boot ball" soccer at the high school level, doesn't it seem to be the easiest system to use with such a short season?
Look at the quality of possession play during the summer and realize that those teams train together nearly year round and with plenty of prep time. Compare that to the 7 or 8 weeks that make up the high school season and it seems clear that the high school coaches don't have the time to train "the pretty game". Especially when the high school teams generally have a minimum of 2 games each week and they are only able to play the hand they are dealt as far as talent is concerned.
It would make sense to me if I were a high school coach to try to train the system that gets wins and gives more opportunities to score. Whether we like it or not, high school soccer in this state is about who has the stamina to play at high energy for 80 minutes. It is an argument of athleticism versus talent.
Just my $.02 on the topic, now let's enjoy some high school soccer... the season is almost half over already!
Yonga is a helluva player but TG just isn't as deep as EP or many of the top "AA" schools. One player can't make up for not being as strong as your opponent in several other positions. It's a team game.
Coon Rapids is not a tough team. They graduated their whole squad! Woodbury smoked CP. In fact the whole NWSC conference is struggling for talent. After two years of State Champs I would not expect to see any from this conference to make it thru sectionals.
Baker & Mah (LOL) what a joke. This must have been posted by some from there family.
AYUB BAKER is the best playmaker in the state of mn. Ask any coach who has coached him or against him. i have watched many games and he is in the mold of a Fabregas and has a touch and vision that is unsurpassed by any high school player in the state.
Sorry, 12:38 I have also watched the mentioned player for many years, and he is not as good as you think he is. He is a selfish player on his club team, with a bad attitude. Most college coaches will not like his attitude and selfishness.
Osseo has won games but they had to forfiet the 3 first games. ( ineligible player) Then lost to Anoka, but if had won they would have had to forfiet again for another inelgible player on the field. They seem to have alot of players this season that have shown up that are ineligible. Someone in the AD office is not doing there job as to catch these errors in registration.
CP has easy 1st part schedule in conference and will win easily over Maple Grove, Andover, Blaine, Park Center, Elk River. Tough schedule starts with 10/1 with Osseo, Anoka, and Centennial.
Seriously, either CP or Anoka will take the NWSC conference title this year. I don't see much competition from Coon Rapids or Osseo. They're in rebuilding year.
Ok to be either you should have some speed. AB is slow as plow horse without the size. CP biggest problem are these two players. Both lack work ethics
But lets see if the coaches fall for this load like they did last year? I can't think of a better way to show everyone what a joke the MN Mr. Soccer award is. Let the media machine begin.
A great Mr. Soccer candidate is Eddie Beccerra from Mpls Southwest. 4 years varsity, led team to dome as a 9th grader, they are ranked 4th right now, all-state as a junior and he's having another great season so far.
CR is tired from playing in Challenge Cup which THEY WON over the weekend. CR didn't connect the passes well tonight and got beat by a well rested ER team. Still CR will be in the Top 10.
CR in Top 10 this week. Three NWSC teams in Top 10.
Week of September 14, 2009
1. Apple Valley 2. Woodbury 3. Eagan 4. Minneapolis Southwest 5. Bloomington Jefferson 6. Eden Prairie 7. Edina 8. Anoka 9. Coon Rapids 10. Champlin Park Others: Stillwater, Osseo, Lakeville North http://www.mshssca.org/aa_boys_poll.html
People, you can hand the trophy over to AV right now and as well as the Mr. Soccer title to Rosenthal. No one can ever touch this team this year. Cut your losses and go home.
9:28 you're right about AV was the favorite last year and don't forget the media machine for Jefferson as well. All talk was about AV and Jefferson and they fell flat on their face. Osseo and St. Louis Park crashed their parties.
EDI BECERRA Minneapolis Southwest, soccer When he arrived at Southwest four years ago, Becerra did not talk much.
Having moved from the Los Angeles area when he was in junior high school, Becerra was a relative unknown in the Southwest program.
"He was painfully shy," coach Jamie Plaisance said. "He came to us as a freshman and we had no idea who he was at tryouts, but he was dominant in scrimmages."
Fast-forward four years. Now established as one of the top midfielders in the state, Becerra has grown, both on and off the field. Last week, he scored the game-winning goal with four minutes left in regulation in a 3-1 victory over Minneapolis South and added two goals in a victory over Minneapolis Henry. Becerra has at least two points in five of the Lakers' six games this season.
"He's one of the top two players in Class AA," Plaisance said. "He isn't shy anymore. Now he's a high-energy, fun-loving and inspirational leader."
Many posts refer to the poor quality of play at the high school level. I think they are correct, the play level in high schols is not great in MN. I checked the Midwest league web page and could only locate four teams from MN playing this fall.
U-14 boys - MTA Blue (3-1) MTA wht (0-2-2).
U-14 girls - Dakota Rev Rampage 2-1
U-17 girls SSM 1-1
Most other surrounding states have many teams at each age group. I understand we play high school ball in the fall and many top players want to play for their school but what about the U-14 age group? These kids aren't playing Varsity sports yet(I suppose there may be a few exceptions)but why no commitment to play soccer in the fall. It should not surprise anyone that MN soccer faces huge challenges regionally when of the 12 U-14 MYSA premier teams only 3 are playing in the fall?
Hey 12:43, there are many 14's playing Varsity. My son started as a 13 a few years ago on a team that lost in section semi.
Prior Lake has a 9th grader that I think is still 14.
If your team will not have it's best players, you do not want to travel for MRL, it will hurt your tournament application status, and your MRL status...
Its so funny how people write stuff about teams, players and coaches and have no idea what they are talking about. Apple Valley is the real deal. The Lake Conf has been to more final games and won more championships then any other conference and Valley will win again this year. As for Lakeville South they have one loss. They are better then most teams, and they should probably be top 10 or close. As for Jefferson they are probably bottom of the the top 10. For their season last year, a 3rd place finish is not falling flat on your face. Credit to that team for losing a tough game and coming back with class in the 3rd place game.
A couple two or three blemishes on your record still puts you in the top 10 now days. Look at teams records and a loss or two is still top 10 if you played decent teams.
It is a coaches poll. Most are just going on school size and history.
Osseo had an eligible player, but I'm wonder how a player (Blaine)can be a senior for three years and be eligible? I think some of the school budget cuts maybe showing.
AA teams with top records( I think I have them right)
Do you see anyone I am missing?
That is top 16 and yet people still complain that this team or that team should be out of the top 10
Apple Valley 9-0 Southwest 7-0 Anoka 7-0-2 Eagan 5-0-2 Woodbury 4-0-2 Edina 7-1 Loss is to Jefferson Champlin Park 6-1 Loss is to WDBY Lakeville South 5-1-1 Loss is to Bville Centennial 5-1-1 Loss to Lakeville South Bloomington Jefferson 5-1-2 Loss is to Eagan White Bear Lake 5-1-2 Loss is to Ch Park Park CG 5-1-2 Loss is to AV Eden Prairie 4-1-2 Loss is to AV Lakeville North 7-2 Loss to Coon Rapids and Fargo So. Wed Wdby @ Park 5pm Wayzata @ Edina 5pm
Thur Jeff @ EP 7pm AV @ Lake South 7pm Anoka @ Centennial 5pm
I am guessing a lot of ties in these games and the road team will win more.
MUST SEE GAME Anoka vs. Centennial - 5:00 PM at Centennial Two undefeated teams in NWSC and it's going to be one heck of a battle. I have a convincely 4-2 win for Courgars over Tornadoes. Courgars could be the darkhorse of NWSC. They're flying under the radar.
Osseo vs. Coon Rapids - 5:00 PM at Coon Rapids Contestants of "What just happened to us?". Both haven't won a game in their own conference. I see it's an even game.
Bloomington Jefferson vs. Eden Prairie - 7:00 PM at Eden Prairie Tough defense vs so-so-to-overrated team. I have Eagles 3-0 Jaguars.
Apple Valley vs. Lakeville South - 7:00 PM at Lakeville South High School It took AV in OT to grab a win from Eastview. AV is showing some fatigue. I see Eagles 2-1 Cougars.
I don't think AV is showing fatigue and I don't think the game versus LS will be that close at all. EV has some talent, 2 of their defenders are on the U17 Valley summer team I'm sure they helped in the containment of the offensive firepower. EV has the best sweeper in the state as well.
Apple Valley This team has to be the most favorite to take the conference, section, and state titles this year. Also David Rosenthal is looking strong to take Mr. Soccer title. So this team could repeat what Osseo did last year with State Championship and Mr. Soccer.
Eagan A well balanced team from defending to attacking. Wildcats could give AV Eagles a run for their money. Sept 26th game against AV should tell the story.
Eden Prairie Strong defense and bulldog attacking style. Looking strong to take #2 spot from Eagan.
Lakeville North Playing good soccer possession game.
This conference is one tough one to predict. The top 5 are the most even teams. They can out do each others on a given day.
Centennial Quick and fast attacking with strong defense. There hasn't been much from this school for years but this could be their year. Sept 17 game against Anoka should paint a better picture.
Anoka Good feeder system from strong traveling Premier and Classic I teams. Strong defense but lacks attacking punches. Sept 17 game against Centennial should paint a better picture.
Champlin Park Coulda and Shoulda team last few years but lacking cohesion. Maybe some key players head are bigger than they are.
Coon Rapids and/or Osseo Good success last year for these two teams. They're trying to find some firm footing here. I will say at least they're better than Maple Grove, Park Center, and Andover.
I overlooked Blaine and Elk River in NWSC. Elk River has potential to beat out Coon Rapids and Osseo for the 4th place. Blaine is hard to tell but better than Maple Grove, Park Center, and Andover.
Its funny HS teams are still playing with a sweeper. It shows that winning is more important then development and that is fine.
Why do top teams in the world not play with a sweeper anymore? Not one team playing in the Champions League yesterday played with a sweeper. Comments??
The kid you are talking about at EV is not a good player at all. I watched a half of the EV and AV game and AV missed a bunch of chances. It was not the EV defending it was a day when a very good team could not finish.
I watched the 2nd half of EP and Eagan and its the worst EP team I have seen in years. With that being said they are still a top ten team and will finish in the top 4 in the Lake and contend for the section championship.
From watching the games, first of all you can't put HS teams on the same platform as regular Premier teams let alone professional teams.
Second, these HS players come together for a very short period of time to play for their schools. You can't expect them to understand the flat back 4 on first day. This system takes months for the kids to learn. Watch any HS teams try this method and you'll see breakaway galore.
So to be safe, the Sweeper position is the most favorite method HS coaches will use. It's simple and can do the job.
The best ( soccer ) player in A is paul and the best ( soccer ) player in AA is Ayub. Both played for a great coach( with many state titles to back up my claim) and are still playing together in club. Most likely end up in D 1 and have major impact in coming years.
Ayub is a good player but not nearly the best, best player in AA is Brandon Wolf from rosemount and he is not playing soccer he is playing football this year
Rosenthal should win Mr. soccer because of his production and the success of AV this season
Ayub IMHO will be lucky to play D3. He is too small, too slow and lacks work ethics and understanding of team concepts. Ask any of his coaches or teammates. There a reason he is not a team captain in high school.
Ahmad Bah is a good player, great speed, good ball skills, works hard and works on the field as a team player. Unfortuneately, I don't see Mr. Soccer going to him as I don't think his team will do very well this year. But in the NWSC he is the only player that I can think of who would be a great canidate.
I agree with xman from earlier however eastview does play a flatback four which is how that whole argument was started. their "sweeper" truly is that good and was a major reason why av couldn't score. And as for brandon wolf..he is also a great player who's heart doesn't belong to football lol
Amad Bah is a very talented player who has only played club soccer for about 2 years. He definatley lacks work ethic, and drive, which he will need to it take the game to the next level. His lack of leadership as captain on his team shows, because of the level of frustation heasa players on the Osseo team this year. Osseo has 2 other players that have talent but the rest are C2 players trying to fit in .

Wow 23 goals against such soccer power houses Owatonna, Hastings, Park and Richfield.
The good teams will be able to defend the boot ball.
actually I dont think any school team can defend av, too many players/athletes.
Edina 0 vs. Jefferson 1
jefferson had the ball more and moved it nicely in the first half where their goal took place. second half was a different story jefferson stopped playing their game and edina took over. the ball was in jeffersons half the majority of the second half but due to good defense didnt allow any good shots and the keeper had to make minimal easy saves.
sw wins again... 3-2 over minnetonka
Wayzata 1 Mpls South 1
Wayzata is overrated.
SW should be ranked.
edina should be ranked #1 becuase we are edina! duh!
My new top ten
1 AV 4-0
2 EP 3-0
3 WDBY 3-0
4 SW 3-0
5 JEFF 3-0-1
6 EAGAN 2-0-1
7 CR 2-0-1
8 ANOKA 3-0-1
9 LAKE SOUTH 3-0
10 OSSEO 1-0-2
Shakopee is 4-0 and I believe the 6th and last AA team to be perfect so far. Most teams have at least 2 marks on their record.
Jefferson 1 Edina 0
1st half game was played even with the edge on scoring chances to Edina.
How did Edina's defensive strategy backfire? Jefferson does not have any depth and with two starting CMFs out injured it really hurt them.
Look you guys can talk all you want before the game..it's not going to matter. Ha I'm sure you haven't forgotten what happened last year
1010 what is your point?
his point is edina got BEAT by Jefferson last year when it mattered,I really dont know if that is the point but it did happen!!
-Gucci Mane representing Jefferson! I went there so I have love for them, Peace out B-Town im back in the ATL HOllA!
Ranking high on beating easiest teams. That's the Minnesotan way.
Easiest schedule s/b over.
Next week should give a really good idea where are good teams.
No one gave Osseo and St. Louis Park the chance to be in State Championship game this time last year. It was all Jags and AV and how they were so good. Ya right.
Northfield spanked Prior lake 3-2.
Wayzata and Mpls South bitch-slapping each other 1-1.
3-2 is NOT a spanking.
Saint Paul Central couldn't beat Maple Grove. Tied 0-0. What's wrong with SPC?
Rochester Century 0, #3 Stillwater 0
RC tied #2 Osseo 1-1.
Are they for real?
I know this is the wrong topic but: Does anybody know the status of the SSM coaching staff? Madigan, Brunt and Craig are no longer in Faribault. Any new coaches, etc? Thanks
About St. Paul Central, they are not a good team. Their strategy is, kick it as far as you can. They really don't have any technically sound players whatsoever. I don't see them getting anywhere in October.
SSM is in disarray IMO.
The little general cleaned house after the boys teams didn't perform well at State Cup. It wasn't his fault of course...it was the other coaches who were to blame.
1:57 is that a good thibg? who is left at SSM?
St.Paul Central 1 Edina 4. Edina started subbing in the middle of the 1st half. By the 20 minute point of the second half almost all starters were out. Goal came with no starters in. What was all the hoopla, Edina didn't even play very well. It was their 5th game in 9 days.
I don't get why SPC playing so badly this year with most of the kids coming back from last year conference title. Any insights?
XMan Games to Watch - Tuesday 9/8
Eden Prairie vs. Apple Valley - 5:00 PM at Johnny Cake Ridge Soccer Compl
This should be boot balls galore game. Counter-attacks after counter-attacks.
I'll give to the best bootballers.
EP Eagles 2-1 AV Eagles.
Elk River vs. Blaine - 7:00 PM at Blaine
Elks should have some sort of decent midfield game against the Bengals.
Elks 3-1 Bengals.
Hopkins vs. Edina - 5:00 PM at Hopkins
Royals could be the darkhorse this year.
Hornets will have to fight hard and I mean physical.
Royals 2-1 Hornets.
Robbinsdale Armstrong vs. Wayzata - 7:00 PM at Wayzata, MN
Trojans are overrated in the poll.
They both don't have the firepowers to dominate.
Falcons 1-1 Trojans.
Armstrong vs. Wayzata oddly enough for last place this year
Class A: BSM v. TGHS - good test for TG. let's see how they do? any opinions?
TG will win without sweat over BSM. BTW, Breck beat BSM and TG didn't have ant problems with Breck.
Previous played games.
TG 3-0 Breck
Breck 2-0 BSM
TG's Yonga will be too much for BSM.
Wayzata soccer domination era is over. The rest of areas have caught up and got plenty of better players.
no way EP beats Valley this year, core groups of both of these teams have played in summer ball numerous times since the kids were 12 years old and EP has never beaten AV, plus after last year I'm sure AV wants a little revenge
Thursday, Sept 10
Bloomington Jefferson @ Eagan 7pm
Two top ten teams, should be interesting
Eagan is not a top ten quality team this year
RH will do the scoring for TG 15-1-1 state finalist.
I'll be very surprised if Eagan can come close to the Jags.
jags 2 eagan 2 both are average. I dont think there are 2 good high school teams in the state, av are head and shoulders above.
av 5 ep 0
AV for sure is the team to beat
I think EP will give them a run for their money
XMan Games to watch - Thursday 9/10
Osseo vs. Anoka - 7:00 PM at Anoka
Orioles 2-1 Tornadoes
Bloomington Jefferson vs. Eagan - 7:00 PM at Eagan
Jaguars 2-1 Wildcats
Wayzata vs. Minnetonka - 7:00 PM at Minnetonka
Skippers 3-1 Trojans
Hopkins vs. Robbinsdale Armstrong - 5:00 PM at Armstrong
Royals 2-0 Falcons
Saw AV play. They are very average. Just shows you how bad boys HS soccer will be again this year. Mostly shows how bad HS coaching really is.
715- Did they beat you 9 or 10 to 0? You don't know what your talking about if you are saying they are an average team.
HAHA very average!?!?!?!?!? they have 8 players who played on the U17 state cup champions and MRL 1st division champs, Goalie, 2 D, 3 Mid, 2 ST, yes they are not the entire VLY summer team but 7 of the 8 are starters on that team and I would put this "average" HS team up against any HS team from MN ever, they are that good
AV has potent attacking and defending. Watch for them to take it all.
Their summer team was not that good. They may have had decent players but their strategy was boot the ball and run. I don't know how they did so well.
Don't forget that 17B VLYs 4th place league finish, was won by WSD, a team that was not even a even a MN state cup finalist.
do you really think that MN league play was a high priority, or really meant all that much to those boys after state cup and regions and MRL, league play was used to get playing time to all the players and to work on other things to get ready for the things that really mattered, league play was not a high priority, same as SCV boys the year before other things become much more important as the season goes on
for WSD and BHK and others league play was all they had left after MRL was not favorable and state cup did not go as they anticipated

10.Minneapolis South
Both St. Paul Central and St. Louis Park are back in the "A" bracket this year.
Valley 4
EP 1
Final
And will people quit complaining because they were not as good as some other team this summer, VLY won state cup and had a good season, let it go
I guess I have to give to a new better bootballers. No I take that back. A better team.
Hornets 3-1 Royals
Okay I better quit my prediction stuff. Not working so far.
Hornets just better than Royals.
Jefferson 3 Chanhassen 0
Elk River- 2
Blaine- 0
Well at least I get one right with Elks winning by 2.
TG 4-0 BSM
TG is too good for Class A.
Here's my dream match:
TG Eagles vs AV Eagles
This match should say who's the best in MN.
So very dumb question..but who is TG eagles?
TG = Totino-Grace
They're just too good.
Yonga is a good player and good kid as well.
7:11,
I think Valley U17 beat SCV U17 twice in the 2009 State Cup. Yet SCV "has a little more to be proud of?" Please explain.
Thanks Jerry!
Dad should be proud. Who wouldn't like to be in his shoes.
How did Jefferson beat Edina?
Taken a pre-season play from top teams in the ranking, I'm going to build myself some confidence with my predictions with these games tonight:
Columbia Heights vs. Minneapolis Edison - 5:00 PM at Minneapolis Edison
Columbia Heights 10-0 Mpls Edison
Minneapolis South vs. Minneapolis Henry - 6:00 PM at Minneapolis Henry
Mpls South 10-0 Mpls Henry

Blake 4, SPA 0
Any insights in how can SPA this bad? Suspensions?
Saw SPA in a early season scrimmage. Keeper looked solid, but field players looked small and young.
Carl Craig is the new varsity girls coach at Richfield High School. Hopefully he will stick around and re-build the program
Woodbury will get its first loss this week.
JY
9/9/09 11:11 AM
the same way every other team wins games. they put one more ball in the back of the net than their opponents you retard.
Good job with your boys Jerry.
Whatever happened to Armstrong?
Robbinsdale Armstrong 1, Hermantown 2
Lost to Hermantown?
Is this the bottom for the Falcons?
East Ridge 1, #8 Anoka 1
6:31...ha I could be wrong here but I don't think he literally meant "how" did they beat them. No need for the outburst
Osseo has to forfeit their first three games. Anyone know what happened?
On there web site:
September 9, 2009
Forfeited Games. Today we've found that one of our varsity player is ineligible to play. So we will forfeit our last three games. It's better for us to find out now before the real conference and section games.
Jefferson more organized than Edina and Jefferson was missing two key players. TT and PG did not play a minute for the Jaguars vs Edina.
10:02,
That's right.

10:02 here
I would love to engage you in an arguement that you obviously are looking for, but...the post was taken directly from the Osseo Boys Soccer web page.
Have no idea what you're talking about.
Eastrdige 1 - Anoka 1

No. I don't believe it.
Would like to hear what happenned here.
Champlin Park 3, Coon Rapids 1
Anoka 1, Osseo 0
Centennial 3, Elk River 1
I don't believe these scores.
Anoka has many Premier/C1 players so beating Osseo is about right.
But CR and ER lost?
Anyone at these games?
NWSC is a tough conference.
Woodbury 0, Stillwater 0
Who believes Coaches poll?
NWSC is the toughest confrence in MN this year
Osseo lost to a pk in the first half.
Solid call, just poor defending.
They struggle with coachingability and the lack of offense in the attacking third.
They have only a couple of solid players (premier) most are c2 at best.
A coach with some soccer ability might put something to together that woudl resemble a team.
But no comparision to last years talent.
AV 7
Chanhassen 0
Only consistent team in MN right now in AA is AV
AV is very consistence with cream puffs.
being direct or not, its whatever fit's your teams needs.
1:35
burnsville's game play has changed because of there new coaching staff tony englund.
1:45 He can blog whatever he likes.
direct or "bootball" soccer is in many ways the only option since most high school teams play on football fields which are upwards of 15 yards narrower versus a traditional 80 x 120 yard field. the lack of width compresses the field and open space out on the pitch. in many ways, the only choice is to go north-south since there isn't a lot of east-west.
This "boot ball" subject comes up every fall and this strategy will never go away. We just have to live with it and bear it out. Watching games from other states like WI and IL and they're doing the same thing. It's not just only in MN.
Any Jags comments on Eagan game? Is Eagan for real this year?
Eric Miller from Woodbury is the best Minnesota-born player in the state. He is fun to watch, and is a complete player. Plus, he's (really) only a junior.
I thought Eric was a Sophmore. I do agree hes a great player and athlete.
XMan Games to Watch - Saturday 9/12

Anyone know anything about this Challenge Cup that is on Osseo's schedule for tonight and tomorrow?
eagan is a good team and have some pretty good talent...to bad they are in AV's section..o well
Bootball is a derogatory term used by snobs.

Paul Y couldn't find his way out of the EP trap to score?
Yonga is a helluva player but TG just isn't as deep as EP or many of the top "AA" schools.
One player can't make up for not being as strong as your opponent in several other positions.
It's a team game.
shows how far and away av are from the rest.
AV is running away with the title already. Any lost would be a big disappointment.

XMan Games to Watch - Tuesday 9/15
#3 Eden Prairie vs. #9 Eagan - 5:00 PM at Eagan
Tough defense vs strong attackers.
Champlin Park is coming on strong and watch for these experienced players:
Ayub Baker and Welton Mah
Coon Rapids is a tough team and CP beat them 3-1.
Look for Champlin Park in Top 10.
CR beat St. Cloud Tech 7-0 and Lakeville North 2-0 and won Challenge Cup. CR is as tough as any top teams in Lake conference.
CP lost to Woodbury in their first game. They're on 5 games winning streak. CP is contender for Top 10.
where's top 10 this week?
Please be aware that all those teams are ranked by the same group of coaches that ranked Osseo #2 last week. Osseo I don't believe has won a game yet.
it's the same group voted for SPA which sucking big time?
SPC not SPA
so CR is as good as AV, Jeff, Eagan? laughable
AYUB BAKER is the best playmaker in the state of mn. Ask any coach who has coached him or against him. i have watched many games and he is in the mold of a Fabregas and has a touch and vision that is unsurpassed by any high school player in the state.
Ayub Baker running for Mr. Soccer?
believe or not CR is as good as AV and Eagan and BETTER THAN Jefferson. Jags SUCKS!
Sorry, 12:38
I have also watched the mentioned player for many years, and he is not as good as you think he is. He is a selfish player on his club team, with a bad attitude.
Most college coaches will not like his attitude and selfishness.
AV would beat CR by at least 4 goals
Osseo has won games but they had to forfiet the 3 first games. ( ineligible player)
Then lost to Anoka, but if had won they would have had to forfiet again for another inelgible player on the field.
They seem to have alot of players this season that have shown up that are ineligible.
Someone in the AD office is not doing there job
as to catch these errors in registration.
We need to get a angry hotline on this website
Hotline is 1-800-YOU-SUCK
CP has easy 1st part schedule in conference and will win easily over Maple Grove, Andover, Blaine, Park Center, Elk River. Tough schedule starts with 10/1 with Osseo, Anoka, and Centennial.
Seriously, either CP or Anoka will take the NWSC conference title this year. I don't see much competition from Coon Rapids or Osseo. They're in rebuilding year.
what are the eligibility problems?
CR will take AV to back of the woodshed and give a good whooping.
Mr. Soccer!!! hahahah Fabregas hahahaha!!!!
There must be a misprint on the startribune website it says that Coon Rapids lost to Elk River 2-1 tonight
I thought CR was the best team in the state and would take AV to the woodshed! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

10. Champlin Park
Others: Stillwater, Osseo, Lakeville North
http://www.mshssca.org/aa_boys_poll.html
Eddie Beccerra? HAHAHAHAHA.
Mr. Soccer will go to a white boy this year: David Rosenthal, SR (Apple Valley)
You can count on it.
People, you can hand the trophy over to AV right now and as well as the Mr. Soccer title to Rosenthal. No one can ever touch this team this year. Cut your losses and go home.
AV was the favorite last year. The games are played for a reason.
Jefferson 2, Lakeville South 2, OT
don't know why Jefferson still in the top 10. They couldn't even beat lakeville south.
9:28 you're right about AV was the favorite last year and don't forget the media machine for Jefferson as well. All talk was about AV and Jefferson and they fell flat on their face. Osseo and St. Louis Park crashed their parties.
From StarTribune Athletes of the week:
EDI BECERRA
Minneapolis Southwest, soccer
When he arrived at Southwest four years ago, Becerra did not talk much.
Now he's a high-energy, fun-loving and inspirational leader."
and the purpose of your post 10:17 was........??
Burnsville club soccer is boot ball as well, not only at the high school level.
This state is all about hockey.
Not soccer, not basketball, not baseball, and not even football.
And a school district/community based structure, not club/AAA, has worked for hockey in MN.
Hey 12:43, there are many 14's playing Varsity. My son started as a 13 a few years ago on a team that lost in section semi.
Prior Lake has a 9th grader that I think is still 14.
If your team will not have it's best players, you do not want to travel for MRL, it will hurt your tournament application status, and your MRL status...
thats funny that Edi moved from LA in jr high, he was playing for Westside at u10!
AV almost goes down tonight 2-1 win in overtime against eastview, but they stay the course and are 9-0 now
AA teams with top records( I think I have them right)
Do you see anyone I am missing?
That is top 16 and yet people still complain that this team or that team should be out of the top 10
Apple Valley 9-0
Southwest 7-0
Anoka 7-0-2
Eagan 5-0-2
Woodbury 4-0-2
Edina 7-1 Loss is to Jefferson
Champlin Park 6-1 Loss is to WDBY

Wed
Wdby @ Park 5pm
Wayzata @ Edina 5pm
Thur
Jeff @ EP 7pm
AV @ Lake South 7pm
Anoka @ Centennial 5pm
I am guessing a lot of ties in these games and the road team will win more.
Elk River is 5-2-1
To be fair, TG should be competing with AA schools. At least the players get some sort of challenges. They're walzing over A schools.
10:31 That's a good list of good teams.
XMan Games to Watch - Thursday 9/17
MUST SEE GAME
Anoka vs. Centennial - 5:00 PM at Centennial
Two undefeated teams in NWSC and it's going to be one heck of a battle.
I have a convincely 4-2 win for Courgars over Tornadoes.
Courgars could be the darkhorse of NWSC. They're flying under the radar.
Osseo vs. Coon Rapids - 5:00 PM at Coon Rapids
Contestants of "What just happened to us?".
Both haven't won a game in their own conference.
I see it's an even game.
Bloomington Jefferson vs. Eden Prairie - 7:00 PM at Eden Prairie
Tough defense vs so-so-to-overrated team.
I have Eagles 3-0 Jaguars.
Apple Valley vs. Lakeville South - 7:00 PM at Lakeville South High School
It took AV in OT to grab a win from Eastview.
Lake Conference Prediction - Top 4
Apple Valley
This team has to be the most favorite to take the conference, section, and state titles this year.
Also David Rosenthal is looking strong to take Mr. Soccer title.
So this team could repeat what Osseo did last year with State Championship and Mr. Soccer.
Eagan
A well balanced team from defending to attacking.
Wildcats could give AV Eagles a run for their money.
Sept 26th game against AV should tell the story.
Eden Prairie
Strong defense and bulldog attacking style.
Looking strong to take #2 spot from Eagan.
Lakeville North
Playing good soccer possession game.
NW Suburban Conference Prediction - (Top 4)
This conference is one tough one to predict.
The top 5 are the most even teams.
They can out do each others on a given day.
Centennial
Quick and fast attacking with strong defense.
There hasn't been much from this school for years but this could be their year.
Sept 17 game against Anoka should paint a better picture.
Anoka
Good feeder system from strong traveling Premier and Classic I teams.
Strong defense but lacks attacking punches.
Sept 17 game against Centennial should paint a better picture.
Champlin Park
Coulda and Shoulda team last few years but lacking cohesion.
Maybe some key players head are bigger than they are.
Coon Rapids and/or Osseo
Good success last year for these two teams.
How is Jefferson overrated? They should be in the 2nd half of the top 10 and that is where they are right now.
The beat Edina for their only loss. They got beat in OT by Eagan with a couple of minutes left.
I will give you two reasons why the Jags will be better in October. They have not been healthy all year and the weather will get cooler.
Even the lowly Ahmad Bah from Osseo can run around Ayub.
Ayub is a good player but not nearly the best, best player in AA is Brandon Wolf from rosemount and he is not playing soccer he is playing football this year
Rosenthal should win Mr. soccer because of his production and the success of AV this season
What's to talk about Brandon Wolf if he's not playing soccer. His heart is with football. Forget this kid. He's no good anyway.
David Rosenthal for Mr. Soccer?? I believe George Steinbrennar is the obvious pick
Amad Bah is a very talented player who has only played club soccer for about 2 years.
He definatley lacks work ethic, and drive, which he will need to it take the game to the next level.
His lack of leadership as captain on his team shows, because of the level of frustation heasa players on the Osseo team this year.
Osseo has 2 other players that have talent but the rest are C2 players trying to fit in .
i know brandon wolf personally, his heard isn't in football, he just has a poor attitude and doesn't get along with the coach at rosemount.
I have watched the EV sweeper play before. What makes you think he is not a good player?
