Somehow the previous post on these topics was deleted. Feel free to use this for ranting and raving about club topics, MRL, MYSA, MTA, SSM, ODP, MN Thunder, etc.
What's the deal with MRL scheduling in the U15 boys 1st Division? I thought teams from the same club had to play in the first third of the schedule or both teams lose the game. MU wildcats and MU jedi have the game scheduled for 6/7, very last game of the league... As far as I can see, the rules state no consideration for rain outs... anybody have any insight?
Directly from the MRL 2009 Spring Season Scheduling Policy.
GAMES BETWEEN TEAMS FROM SAME CLUB All games that are to be played between teams from the same club must be played during the first one third of each team’s season or the game will be considered a No-Contest. No consideration will be made for games that are postponed. These games must be played within the first third of a team’s schedule. For example, in a 9 game season, this game must be 1st, 2nd or 3rd game of each team’s season. For 6, 7 or 8 game season, this game must be the 1st or 2nd game of each team’s season.
Appears this game should be considered a No-Contest, meaning no points can be gained by either team.
10:20 Seems like a dumb rule, what would a club ever gain by playing each other in the later part of the season?? Too bad for the boys if this is true. Not surprising if MU's leadership didn't pay attention to this ....MUST be an oversight.
Unfortunately, there have been instances in the past that clubs manipulate the standings with intraclub play.
In this current situation, one team is leading the league, one is at the bottom. Oddly enough the team at the bottom claims they are the #1 team in the club. If the "better" team would lose to the "other MU" team the top team could move towards gaining MRL Premier status.
Would a fair game occur??
No one wants to accuse someone of throwing a game in youth soccer, therefore most leagues mandate that this uncomfortable issue be avoided.
I vaguely remember a State Cup pool game years ago between two girls teams of the same club that was rumoured to include two kick offs, but no play. The resulting tie, allowed both teams to advance to the semi's (a loss by either team would have allowed an opponent to advance)...
CHARLESTON, S.C. (May 7, 2009) - US Club Soccer has announced a sanctioning agreement with the newly-formed Elite Clubs National League (ECNL), the premier girls' league in the country with U- 15, U-16 and U-17 divisions.
The 40 inaugural ECNL member clubs were recently announced for the 2009-10 season, which will kick off with the Eclipse Select Challenge Cup in Chicago, August 14-16.
"We're looking forward to being involved in this league with what are clearly some of the top girls' soccer clubs in the country," said US Club Soccer Executive Director Bill Sage. "This is an exciting venture and one that promises to help define the future direction of elite girls' soccer in the United States."
US Club Soccer will assist in the league's administration and event operations, including marketing and public relations.
In addition to the ECNL being integrally involved in US Club Soccer's current id2 player identification and development program, future plans include the league's involvement in an older girls' identification and development program as well.
The league's structure and national scope will allow for optimal development for the elite female player, in part by improving clubs' competitive calendars while allowing clubs the ability to provide a better training-to-game ratio for their players.
"We are very excited to enter into this relationship with US Club Soccer," said ECNL President Christian Lavers. "Both the ECNL and US Club Soccer are committed to improving the developmental environment for youth players in the United States, and together I think we will be able to do this more quickly, more effectively and with a number of new and unique programs."
ECNL member clubs will place one team in each of the U-15, U-16 and U-17 age groups, and teams will compete for individual age group championships as well as an overall club national championship.
The ECNL will host stand-alone events and partner with existing national showcase events for the completion of a 10-game regular season prior to the year-end ECNL National Championship. The inaugural ECNL National Championship is slated for July 2010 in Seattle.
Each ECNL team must participate in three of five regular-season events: - Eclipse Select Challenge Cup: Aug. 14-16, 2009, in Chicago - NCAA Women's College Cup: Dec. 4-6, 2009, in College Station, Texas - Disney's Soccer Showcase: Dec. 31, 2009-Jan. 3, 2010, in Orlando, Fla. - Las Vegas Showcase: March 2010 - PDA Showcase: May 2010 in Zaraphath, N.J.
Each age group will be split into two flights (Challenge A and Challenge B) based on team strength, and games within each flight will be based on geographical location in order to minimize the number of games teams play against opponents from the same region.
Upon completion of the regular season, multiple four-team playoff groups will be established in each flight based on the regular-season standings. The top four teams in each age group in the Challenge A flight will compete for the ECNL National Championship. The bottom four teams in the Challenge A flight will compete in a relegation playoff in which the winning team will remain in the Challenge A division for the next season and the remaining three teams will be relegated to the Challenge B flight. Similarly, the top four teams in the Challenge B division will compete for the promotion playoff in which the top three teams will be promoted to the Challenge A flight in the next season.
So does this mean that the reams from MTA that participate in this league will not be eligible for state cup? My guess is no, if they are US Club Soccer teams. They would be "above" playing in any MYSA league and therefore not eligible.
I thought everything MTA did revolved around state cup. How will they "sell" their program now that they can't claim they've won X amount of state cups?
In fact, how will anyone be able to afford to play in this league?
The cost for ECNL will not be substantially more than current fees for MTA. It is another opportunity for girls who want to play soccer at that level. It certainly is not for everyone, but another option. The teams that participate would not do MRL, which was not a great experience this spring for some teams (weather, cancellations, costs, missing school, etc.).
1:11 I don't believe these teams or their players would be eligible for state cup. Here are the rules...
3. a. Team In order to participate in the Minnesota State Cup each team must: • Be comprised of players properly registered with the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association and listed on the official league roster; • Be in good standing with the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association; • Compete in at least a 4-team approved league during the current seasonal year in its State Association, US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional League or US Youth Soccer National League or with its State Association’s permission in another State Association, except for the U19 age group for boys and girls. The league competition must consist of a minimum of one game against each of 3 different teams participating in the league. Whether participation in any amateur league shall qualify a youth team for Championship competition under this policy shall be determined by each State Association; • Roster only 18 players (U13 - U15) or 22 players (U16 - U19); • NOT over roster players; or • NOT use any guest or play-up players.
3. b. Players In order to participate in the Minnesota State Cup each player must: • Be properly registered and listed on the league roster in accordance with the rules of US Youth Soccer and the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association;
1:11, Many think MTA revolves around State Cup but this move obviously shows those thinking in that manner are wrong and have been wrong. The bigger focus is and has been about player development and allowing players to play at the highest level. This new league fits that bill and when the boys teams are admitted to the US Development Academy in the near future they too will forego USYS State Cup event.
Spot on about Cassidy. If he doesn't know his players, how can he surmise a 442 or 351 will work. Does he think he hand picked players to fit any systems? These are the 2 default english systems by the way.
The Thunder are using "hope" marketing for the Rochester team. They hope that if the make the local club guy the coach he can get his clubs parents to bring their kids and pay admission. Might have been better to look for the best coach and players and let winning fill the stands. Or even field the team in the metro, get more quality players, a better coach, build a winning team, then move it to Rochester.
As negative as this post sounds, I do hope they have some success regarding Win-Losses.
You are wrong. MTA's top coach said at the beginning of the year everything is geared to winning state cup. He also said he does not develop players as they have already been developed by the time he gets them. Ask him if he did in fact say that.
9:26- I am not sure what the intent or meaning of your post is, but FYI from the USL rules- "In USL-1 and USL-2, each team is permitted a maximum of five (5) foreign players on its active game-day roster and a maximum of seven (7) foreign players on its master roster. The PDL is permitted a maximum of six (6) on both rosters and the W-League is permitted a maximum of seven (7) on both rosters. " So, there cannot be 10 international players on the roster.
I'll agree that it is great to have a PDL team in Rochester. It will be nice to have a road trip that we Menace fans can make in a day! Here's to having another punching bag for the Menace!
NAME Last club/college played for Country of Origin Paul Grandstrand Brown University US Elliott Purdom Viterbo University England Garrett O'Brien University Wisconsin Oshkosh US Brian Reddish St. Mary's University US Moe Tageldin Hamline University US citizen Paul Monson Marquette University US Bakari Williams James Madison University US Justin Hoskins Montana State Billings US Brian Pederson Minnesota Thunder US Paul Moran Minnesota Thunder US John Zietlow St. Olaf College US Chris Sutton Notre Dame US Gustavo Dias Long Island Development Academy Brazil Kentaro Takada Thespa Kusatsu J league team Japan Ryan Sappington Bucknell University US Santiago Mejia Loras University Columbia Miguel Bonilla Loras University Columbia Ross Hamilton Carleton College US Wesley Costa University of Science and Arts Oklahoma Brazil Vlado Blagoyevich Carthage College Bosnia Drew Lukas Hamline University US Teal Bunbury Akron University Canada Mark Heath Preston Bellevue University England Muharem Dedic Rochester men's league Bosnia (On Trial) Aaron Olson Trinity University US (On Trial) Paul Dawson Olivet Nazarene University US
Obviously some of the players who's country of origin is listed as international are US citizens. I believe the intent of the post was that a few folks where knocking the makeup of the team and it questioned their player knowledge with such a geographically diverse group of players. Basically, "ragging on the raggers".
Just because the PDL team in Rochester is the brainchild of hometown pro that most on this blog love to hate doesn't mean that it's a bad move. On the contrary, the Rochester Thunder is a great move for the pro club in a time when many other pro club decisions have be suspect.
Location is ideal in a market that - has affluence, has a large population, has very little else going on for the sporting fans, has a ton of youth players, has a good coaching staff who are tied into that local youth system, and does not hurt the draw to Thunder pro games in the Twin Cities.
Cassidy knows the game and I'd put him at least on par with most other PDL coaches. Moreover the Thunder get an opportunity to continue to have contact with top level collegiate talent, some of which should eventually flow into the first team.
Oh and it's GREAT that some SSM boys are staying in MN to play. With all the SSM-MTA crap on this blog, in the end they are both trying to do the same thing - put talented players in positions to have success in the sport past the youth game.
Im not a parent, but I give MTA all the backing in the world. MTA Club, PDL, Lightning, Thunder. They are doing it right!!! Good Luck even thou Im a Menace Fan. Your boys will be hearing from the Red Army down in DSM this Saturday. Welcome to the division. ps. The Menace fans can talk some @%*% on Big Soccer.
Here are the details about ECNL formation. Year 1-4, the clubs can participate in other leagues but year 5 is only in ECNL.:
With the participation of the clubs invited to the March 12, 2009 presentation, the new ECNL will represent the highest level of competition in girl’s youth soccer, and will insure that the developmental environment for the American female youth soccer player continues to improve. U15 – U17 ECNL Structure: The ECNL will be developed and expanded year-by-year with a 5-year strategic plan with the long-term goal of creating a national competition schedule of 30 games. Year 1 & 2: In 2009-2010 the U15-U17 ECNL will feature 40 clubs with teams in the U15, U16 and U17 age groups. At each age, teams will be separated into two flights and will play a 9-10 game regular season and 2 placement games at the year-end ECNL National Championship. Competition dates will be spread across the calendar to accommodate high school seasons for all clubs. Participating clubs will not be permitted to participate in the USYS National League but will be permitted to participate in all other events/leagues they chose. Year 3 & 4: In years 3 and 4, and potentially earlier if agreed upon by the clubs, the ECNL will expand the regular season schedule by including regional games, to create a 21/24-game regular season. Each club will play four home and four away games (in weekend schedules with a maximum of 2 games), and schedules will be arranged to provide travel partners. Year 5 and beyond: In year 5 the ECNL will reach its final stage. Participating clubs will participate in only the ECNL in a schedule that is expanded to an annual calendar featuring 30-40 games culminating in the ECNL National Championship Event.
There seems to be so much anger, and bitter resentment on this blog. MTA, SSM, MYSA, PDL, and on and on it goes.
You know what's great about MYSA? Like it or not they get kids playing soccer and being active.
You know what's great about MTA? They get kids playing.
SSM? They get kids playing?
Don't you all realize that you're part of the same thing and that THING is not some initials strung together . . . it's helping kids young and old appreciate fitness, what it means to be part of a team, how to strive for excellence and more.
Y'all sit back and anonymously take outrageous pot shots at each other merely dragging down the entire community.
Go create something. You're so focused on negative destruction. Me over you. Us over them. There's room of all.
UEFA's great because Man U has Barca. They make each other great.
Try and look at it that way. MYSA, MTA, SSM, whatever . . . they help make every program better.
Guy beats you 1 v 1 on your best effort and puts one in the upper 90 . . . tip your hat.
MTA gets good players and makes 'em better . . . tip your hat.
SSM gets even better players and wins with 'em . . . tip yer hat.
Somebody show me the problem in that. Not for you or YOUR kid. But for all kids.
Hmm, funny. I have coaching credentials but have never fetl the need to tell anyone about them. My youth soccer volunteer time is probably around 4000 hours. I have developed multiple clubs competiative programs, managed, recruited and built dozens of teams. My career coaching record is over 90% wins. My record in taking c2 teams to c1 is 100%. My record in taking teams from c1 to premier, 100%. My record in taking Premier teams to over .500 in MRL is 100%. My record in state cup matches is over 90% wins. Every team I've taken to the MN state cup has won. % of U15s and up that I have coached for 2 years or more playing competative college soccer is around 90%. Number of players who I have written personal recommendations is around 100. Number of player who find themselves in trouble on a regular occasion is about 1%.
Its not about 'knowing the game.' It is about the passion and dedication to make every player better and a better person. Its about the ability to build prorams from the bottom up. Doing the hard work that many DOCs like to push off on volunteer. Taking care of club and team issues instead of pushing them off on team managers. Knowing how to communicate and motivate players. Knowing how to make adjustments during games. And much more.
I think those that know Cassidy know where he falls in all the areas above.
me thinks the dilemna with most SSM parents is that they have to spend too much time DEFENDING their decision and just as much time JUSTIFYING their decision.
me also thinks straddling that fence causes pain and that they should wonder why it is self-inflicted.....

6:52- spoken like a true parent of a kid who's number is not represented. Let me guess, you want to know who made it so you can point out that your little Mia is better then her?
As a long time youth soccer volunteer in Rochester, I can certainly identify with 4:12's frustration. I do think the team will have some success though because they do some very good players. In this case I think the coach will have little to do with their success or failure. I will go to games because their is not much else going on down here in the summer.
Hey 8:36, I think maybe you jumped the gun a bit on 6:52.
(BTW I wrote 2:23 and will continue to try and bring decency to this blog.)
You might be right, but I'm not sure it's established that 6:52 wants to do what you suggest (compare his/her kid to someone else). Rather than assume, let's ask. You went very negative before you knew for sure that it was appropriate to do so. Something you wouldn't have done had you not been anonymous.
So, ok, 6:52, tell us openly why you are wondering about the anonimity of ODP rosters? What's the big deal?
Also, to be fair, it should be noted that I am a coach and a parent of a child who was selected for an ODP roster. So I haven't seen my child feel the sting of not being selected.
Hey M!M!, 2:23 here. What exactly is your agenda? You're throwing all kinds of crazy negativity around. Just slignin' it in all directions, seemingly without care or justification.
Ok, so it's established You don't like MYSA, you don't like MTA, you don't like SSM.
Why do you participate in this forume again?
Do you have anything whatsoever to do with soccer in MN or are you just "that guy" who likes to antagonize everyone all the time?
If so, take a long look in the mirror and ask your reflection . . . "Did my mom raise me this way? Is this who I want to be?"
Have the Minnesota Titanic, er- Thunder, won a game yet? I see they played the Chicago Sockers U14s in an exhibition the other night. Did they win that one?
2:23, just chuckling that the lady sitting next to me (and yelling obnoxiously) at today's SSM/MTA U18B game pays $38,000 a year to send her kid away to an average academic school to play soccer and lose to a team of lowly Minnesotans. I can see SSM succeeding as a hockey factory, as they turn out players who actually go on and make money, but geez, this is SOCCER. Outside of MTA coaches, who makes money in soccer? The Thunder can't even pay their players.
M!M!- Did she tell you that she is paying $38,000 per year, or are you assuming that? You are a sad, sick little man.
BTW- I actually heard parents this weekend from a club which shall remain nameless (however they were wearing blue uniforms with green numbers) who were making fun of a kid wearing a full 90 headgear. Um, if the player is wearing it- it is probably due to an injury? Nice. Parents making fun of a kid with injury, because of the protective gear which has to be worn because of said injury. Oh well- I guess it is best that your team has no chance of making it out of pool play. That way, fewer players will be subject to your parents childish-ness. You should be ashamed.
- Parents, if you are going to make comments towards players here's a little guide for you:
1. U5 - u12: Nothing but positive comments and encouragement to BOTH sides. "Nice run", "unlucky!", "good try #7", "great game boys/girls". If you ever say anything negative to a 11 year old kid (especially on the other side), go home and hang yourself. You have no life anyway.
2. U12 - U19: Positive only comments to the opposition. Never feel like you have the right to say anything negative to a kid on another team. When you find yourself mocking and ridiculing kids this age . . . it's time to get some counseling. If the side you're supporting is flat and you want to urge your own team to hustle more, give more effort, kids this age can take, "Hey, get moving white!" or "Come on, pick it up."
3. College: If you just HAVE to go negative against your hated rival, just remember, you're still yellin' at basically a "kid". College players don't need your crap, they've got enough being totally broke, behind in classes and trying to figure out life.
3. Pros at any level: They're gettin' paid to play and can always choose not to. If you want to get on somebody, well . . . that's your deal I guess. But remember, have some class. Just because you paid to get in doesn't mean you have a license to scream profanity with 10 year olds all around.
That is a great letter, spoken from the heart I feel.
It’s truly unbelievable the negative response that many club officials I’ve spoken with have towards MN pro soccer now that the organization houses a youth academy. Though I call many of these people friends, their lack of understanding coupled with MYSA’s blatant denial of the Thunder existence of late has put our state at a crossroads that could lead to the end of pro soccer in this state.
What baffles me when talking to many paid coaching directors is that they bash the Thunder for not being a “true” pro team (for whatever reason) and for initiating a youth system that lures players away from local community clubs. Yet most of these coaching directors make a living in this state BECAUSE pro soccer has been around for 18 years or so and has had a positive impact on our young players and the overall interest of the game in MN. People at Shattuck bash the Thunder, yet Shattuck has a program led by people brought to MN through the Thunder.
It comes from the so-called “top”. MYSA’s leadership is suspect, vindictive, and stubborn. The majority of the MN soccer community looks at MYSA as the end all be all of soccer knowledge in this state and the MYSA leadership abuses this power of suggestion. The same goes for local community club volunteer presidents/board members and paid coaching directors. They are the gatekeepers of information to the masses and have the ability to turn their membership against the pro team through the propagation of misinformation and bias.
I ask IMS to dig for the truth. Call out these people at MYSA and within our local soccer club system. The questions to ask are simple.
1 - Do you believe professional soccer is beneficial to the promotion and growth of the youth game in our state?
2 - Do you believe that parents and players should have the right to pursue any development option they choose?
If the answer to both questions is yes, then there is absolutely no non-self-serving reason to not support the Thunder. Period. If the answer to either question is no, then one must question why these people in positions of power and soccer decision making for their members?
Pose the same questions to every single metro area club. Seek answers from coaching directors like Wayne Harrison (EP) and Ted Kroeten (Blackhawks) as to why they refuse to support pro soccer in this state. Talk to club presidents and board members at Mpls United and PSA and ask why they’ve continued to propagate misinformation and all out lies to their membership about the Thunder and about MTA. Talk to the Chan Chaska club president and ask why he didn’t renew his season tickets this year, having been a stout support of MN pro soccer until this point.
You might not get responses but no answers speak volumes in their own right.
Compile and publicize a list of all MYSA officials and affiliate clubs and their respective stances on the pro soccer/MTA issues. Everything is easy for them behind closed doors. It’s time to bring things to light and call people out for their true intentions; many of which I guarantee are selfish and self-serving in the end.
The MN soccer climate stints. Time to clear the air and IMS can do it.
5:52 - Do you know nothing about marketing?? When you continue to post the same self serving tripe again and again, you only turn more and more people against you.
The first time that was posted, you may have gotten a certain percentage of people to reconsider their feelings towards the Thunder. With each successive post, however, people are just getting annoyed.
Hey 8:55 since you love to say "me thinks" you should know how to spell it, it is actually one word.
Methinks
Me*thinks"\, v. impers. [imp. Methought.] [AS. [thorn]yncan to seem, m[=e] [thorn]ynce[eth], m[=e] [thorn][=u]hte, OE. me thinketh, me thoughte; akin to G. d["u]nken to seem, denken to think, and E. think. See Me, and Think.] It seems to me; I think. See Me. [R., except in poetry.]
IMS may be in the minority among the haters on this blog but that encompasses only about 10-15 lost souls who have nothing better to do than whine about youth soccer and the injustice they find in a couple of elite clubs/organizations.
If they weren't the minority, the Thunder would be selling more tickets. I really don't think any of the club DOCs are bad-mouthing the Thunder as some imagine. I think that the Thunder and MTA are under the mistaken belief that they have any real effect on soccer here in MN or anywhere else. With or without them MN soccer would be the same as it is now.
1. a youth system that lures players away from local community clubs. - MTA is absolutely that. My kid plays in it, and not in his community club because of it. - But that's not a bad thing. Everybody who knows player development will say, "the best players need to play together to reach their peak. - Accept what you are MTA. - Get over it community clubs, you don't have 18 kids good enough to fill an elite roster. So . . .???
2. most of these coaching directors make a living in this state BECAUSE pro soccer has been around for 18 years or so and has had a positive impact on our young players and the overall interest of the game in MN. - Totally bogus opinion not rooted in any fact. I actually like the Thunder and the MTA, but foolish opinions like this actually hurt the image. Stop it.
3. Shattuck has a program led by people brought to MN through the Thunder. - I have no idea if that's true. Is it? - If that's true then Shattuck WOULD owe the Thunder a debt IF they couldn't possibly have gotten equally qualified program leaders without the Thunder in state. - Since the author can't know that, the idea that Shattuck owes the Thunder a debt is another opinion stated as fact.
4. The majority of the MN soccer community looks at MYSA as the end all be all of soccer knowledge in this state - This kind of nonsense is just worthless. - Where's the poll? - Really? You know for a fact that the MAJORITY of the MN Soccer community views the MYSA a certain way. - You can't even define the MN soccer community, let alone suggest what more than 1/2 of them think.
5a. The . . . community club . . . members and paid coaching directors. . . are the gatekeepers of information to the masses - No they absolutly are not. - Think! Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, MSN, This blog, Star Trib, email, The Thunder Marketing Dept, and on and on and on. - Perhaps this will get through, DO you really believe the local community clubs in England are the gatekeepers of information about the EPL?
5b. And have the ability to turn their membership against the pro team through the propagation of misinformation and bias. - No they actually don't. - Every individual will make up their own mind about whether to attend a Thunder game, or participate in a Thunder event. - If the President of a soccer board says, "the Thunder stink" are you really suggesting 200 people won't ever be able over come that to be Thunder supporters.
Bottom line: This letter is actually not great. It's poorly conceived and does not help MN soccer.
Maybe it would if it made some more logical conclusions and honest assessments.
Look, the answers to the 2 questions are of course "yes".
I know Wayne Harrison. He's a good dude in general. He willingly helps youth coaches improve. He is willing to take his own personal time to help people he doesn't know. The idea that he refuses to support pro soccer in the state is irrelevant.
What, you want to FORCE him to? Is that you're idea? So, IF you're a coaching director, you MUST support pro soccer.
Imagine how stupid the Vikings or Twins would sound suggesting that to youth groups in the state.
Look, people will support what they support for their own reasons. Instead of whining about it, go out and WIN some supporters for cripes sake.
Well said 2:23. Do people really think that whether or not the Vikings or Twins are here or not affects youth football or baseball? You would have to be a bit slow to think so.
11:04, everyone needs to come down from their soapboxes...except for 2:23. Because 2:23 is God. He speaks for all of us, and teaches us how to think. Thank you, 2:23, for your wisdom. I am a floundering soccer parent without your guidance.
"The lady doth protest too much, methinks." -Hamlet Act 3, scene 2, 222–230
Almost always misquoted as "Methinks the lady doth protest too much," Queen Gertrude's line is both drier than the misquotation (thanks to the delayed "methinks") and much more ironic. Prince Hamlet's question is intended to smoke out his mother, to whom, as he intended, this Player Queen bears some striking resemblances. The queen in the play, like Gertrude, seems too deeply attached to her first husband to ever even consider remarrying; Gertrude, however, after the death of Hamlet's father, has remarried. We don't know whether Gertrude ever made the same sorts of promises to Hamlet's father that the Player Queen makes to the Player King (who will soon be murdered)—but the irony of her response should be clear.
and Forbes magazine (or was it Fortune) ranked Kevin McHale as the top GM in professional sports. both sets of research must have come from the same folks.
Hey M!M! just to be clear, which of my posts has elucidated my idiocy:
- Shouldn't we promote the game collectively instead of tearing each other down? - Shouldn't we be nice to kids? - If you're trying to promote the Thunder or MTA, shouldn't you do it without wild accusations or opinions stated as facts? - If you hate everything and everybody in MN soccer . . . shouldn't you find something else to do?
Far be it from me suggest that no one could ever quibble with my posts, but which of those makes me the idiot?
You conspicuously never answered my first question . . . why do you participate in this blog? If you hate everything and everybody in MN soccer, what's your purpose?
So, it's clear you've been online researching Hamlet. Slip on over to dictionary.com for vitriol and vapid. Then look in the mirror again and consider "to be or not to be". As in, "to be on this blog, or not to be on this blog leaving it to decent people who actually care about the game and the kids who play it."
i doubt MTA would want to trade their 6 state cups on the boys side over the last 2 years for SCV's higher TopDrawer ranking (and one state cup). On the girls side I think the number might be more like 10 to 1.
If you combine the Wings and Thunder, like they should have MTA would be 54th, way ahead of SCV. Congrats to SCV for being 104th that is a great honor.
9:54 - I looked over the criteria. Since you seem to be in the know on SCV, please fill me in on all the players on the mens side who are playing on all these teams which are accumulating them points to place them so high in the rankings.
Based on this criteria, WDB will be the top ranked girls club in a few years when their current U17's all graduate.
Not everyone works 9-5. Some of us are just getting off work at this time of day. I love how you call someone a loser for the time they read the blog. You're so much better because you wait for an hour or two after you get up. Well, at least I wait until I get home from work and I'm finishing my day.
I have nothing at all to do with SCV, but simply was able to read the tds website, where it shows the criteria. I'll paste it here - try to get someone to read it to you, very slowly, repeat as necessary.
Which players got them their ranking? Not really sure, but my guess is that the group that Gotsmanov and O'Brien played with has an impact on their ranking, you think?
ClubRank™ is a points system designed to gauge how well clubs are doing in their mission to prepare players for higher levels of soccer, namely the professional ranks, youth and full national teams, and college soccer.
Club team results are not a consideration in ClubRank™. You can find rankings based on team performance in TeamRank™.
The rankings are based on current performance, and thus begin with team selections made in 2008.
Players who enter professional, college or national teams from that date will earn points for their respective club. A player can earn points for no more than two clubs, in which case the normal points value for selection will be halved. A player must have been with a youth club for at least two years for that club to receive points for his selections.
The point values for various team selections are as follows:
Full National Team - 20 points
Top Tier Professional League roster - 18 points (England, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Netherlands, Argentina, Brazil - top divisions only)
2nd Tier Professional League roster - 15 points (2nd divisions of the above, MLS, Mexico, Belgium, Scotland, Portugal , Greece, roughly 7 to 25 in UEFA coefficients, Colombia, Chile, Japan, Korea, and Australia)
3rd Tier Professional League roster - 12 points (USL, 26 to 50 in UEFA coefficient, other African, South American, and Asian Leagues)
World Cup Roster for U17s, 20s, 23s (Olympics), or Full Team - 10 points
Call-up to Youth National Team Roster - 5 points
Division 1 College - 3 points
Division II College - 2 points
Division III or NAIA - 1 point
*A player can earn points for his/her club in each of these areas once per calendar year.
The first entry of point totals and standings for ClubRank™ will reflect 2008 selections, including college and professional rosters for that year.
Note: The point totals will be updated at least once per month.
"My purpose is to raise the blood pressure of slugs like you. It appears to be working.
M!M!"
Oh this is so precious. What a classic! Again and again, in the face of, "why are you here? What's your purpose? Give us some value?" you're finally so flummoxed that you openly admit you actually don't have purpose other than to hurt people (don't bother coming back saying it's just me because everyone else you've already attacked knows what that is . . . a desperate attempt to remain relevant).
Your revealing admission just rendered all of your past and future posts comprehensively irrelevant.
There is absolutely no reason for any participant on this blog to consider anything you post, because you yourself have admitted that its purpose is nothing more than to upset people.
Hey everyone. No matter how much he begs by posting increasingly offensive drivel, please don't respond to M!M! Now that he's been exposed as valueless (only trying to hurt you) there's no point. I never will again.
Further, without any attention he'll eventually go away. Desperate souls like this guy usually take a while. At first he'll redouble his efforts (the, "I'm never gonna leave" proclamation is coming) but eventually he'll get no satisfaction and slink off.
P.S. Poor use of the word "flummoxed." I am most certainly neither confused nor perplexed. You asked why I'm here, and I responded clearly and succinctly. No confusion.
I'm a number 1 as well. I do not even have a child actively playing anymore. Just fun to read the posts. Bad habit I guess. And to think that I was once one of the crazy parents.
Well the good news, 9:36, is that he put some garbage out there and nobody bit. It's going to work. He's going to go away eventually. Just as long as nobody comments directly to him no matter how offensive he gets. It'll be fun to watch actually. The flame out should be intense.
Hey everybody, just in case some new people come along. We should all try to follow M!M!'s posts with a quick warning to others not to respond. That way he won't be able to drag unsuspecting people into his garbage. It should accelerate his departure.
Then we'll have to track his IP address to prevent him returning with a different account, which will be his next move after flaming out.
So sad.
Much love to good people. Off to train 9 year olds.
I personally like Shekki and M!M!. I don't always agree, but I hate lemmings. With all the democrats in MN, I can't believe you all feel like status quo is where its at...oh that's right the donkeycrats (and repuklakins) are all about status quo. Eat the rich!
2:23, were you the leader of the "Dungeons and Dragons" club at your high school? As long as you post such idiotic drivel, I won't need people to respond directly to me. I can have a field day with you.
Expect to see a lot player turnover next year. Several reasons. The economy will have impact. Lots of parents sticking it out for the balance of year. Also parents starting to see the #1 priority is club finances and not player development. There are a few coaches who have the innate ability to alienate players and parents and this will have a negative impact on commitments.
1:58 you're right that the economy will probably push some kids out of higher cost clubs next year.
As a coach, watching so many parent email addresses change from BestBuy.com and seagate.com to free services, I know many families are struggling.
Tell us more about this, "Also parents starting to see the #1 priority is club finances and not player development."
Do you have specifics you can cite, share? What are you experiencing?
2:23
PS - Remember everyone, resist the urge to respond to M!M! (I haven't seen his racism but to hear it's a problem is no surprise). Just continue ignoring him.
It's seems you're saying you like Shekki and M!M! because they're different. What do they really offer RE soccer in MN? M!M! has said that's not his purpose here (he wants to hurt others), so . . . help us understand.
People who don't like racists are not lemmings. They're normal.
Are you saying the status quo should be, "let's all be nasty and cruel?" If that's true, why would you want that?
What the heck is this, "Eat the rich!" all about? Are you poor? Do you resent rich people? Why not go out and make yourself rich instead of disliking people with money? It seems strange to hate rich people just because you're not one of them.
3:44 your an idiot. I am rich. I do resent how many people have made their fortunes. I choose to give an enormous portion of my income to charity...helps me sleep at night.
Just keep characterizing those who are different than you as bad. Go drive your Honda to your laminate, suburban address, on your perfect street and forget about the poor. Let me guess Maple Grove? Wayzata? Osseo? Go f^@% yourself.
In a recession not all products and services lose demand. Some go up like car repairs and some go down like buying new cars. Cheap luxuries like chocolate do well. Jewelry not so well. My guess is traveling sports will do OK because of amount of recreational time they fulfill for both the player and family at a reasonable price along with its value to the player.
I have not heard of anyone dropping out so far though due to the economy - although most people won't say they are not coming back next year while the season is just really starting.
I don't think our coach or club are making more money than they spend on soccer. But if I did I still don't think I would care as long as I saw value in the product.
Remember the Tsunami Sota. One of the top teams ever here in Minnesota. Many of the players got fed up and just refused to come back. That came as a surprise to nobody. Could be dejavu again.
The MTA Executive Board is aware of an incident at State Cup this past weekend. It was a coach's decision that came into question; an individual decision, and it was not supported by the club. We are looking into it further to deem whether any disciplinary action is needed.
to read some of the anit-MTA folks on the girls blog some are calling for all MTA teams to be disqualified from State Cup and even go as far as disbanding the club.
Yes. The MA and Bangu bashers are so angry and excited they're drooling on their keyboards and creaming in their jeans. It's like Christmas day for anti Bangu bunch.
The MTA Executive Board is aware of an incident at State Cup this past weekend. It was a coach's decision that came into question; an individual decision, and it was not supported by the club. We are looking into it further to deem whether any disciplinary action is needed.
IS THIS GOING TO AFFECT THE SOCCER CLIMATE IN MN http://www.insidemnsoccer.com/ From Inside MN Soccer Minnesota State High School League amended some rules on Monday concerning soccer. The rule change was approved 45-0 by the State High School League to change the no contact rule. The rule was supported by the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA), and will take effect this year. According to the Tribune, It makes it a violation for high school soccer players to also play on a non-school team once the high school season begins. That means players must end their participation on non-school teams by Aug. 16 this year, because the first day of practice for high school soccer is Aug. 17. Without the rule, coaches and administrators fear that players will not have sufficient time to rest and recover. The other change — the no-contact period from July 1 through July 7 – will be implemented in 2010. IMS has reported previously that new rules do not allow members of the Development Academy teams to participate in high school soccer. There are also some competitive club fall leagues springing up like the Midwest Regional League.
MTA is horrible and now witht he resenet events it proves that are all shady individuals. They have lost all respect and many now feel sorry for their players and parents for being put in poor situations. shame on you!
From a WSC Parent - attended the NSC Cup this weekend (boy has it gone down hill). MTA coach of a B flight u11 game got tossed from the championship game for comments to the ref. More good lessons out there from our friends at MTA!
So is the quality of the NSC tournament down because of their biting the hand that feeds them (MYSA) or the economy? It'd be nice to hear from teams that decided not to participate that may have been there before. My guess is the former for locals and the latter for teams that travel far to get there. Several teams participated from my club (about the same as usual) but I don't think thre's a single team other than U9/U10 that's doing USA Cup.
That tournament has been slipping for years (well prior to anything between MYSA & NSC). MRL, AAG, JFG, Midwest Challenge, economy etc....something's got to give. I seriously doubt any team opted not to participate because of any MYSA issues with NSC. Used to get some solid teams fron NE & IA at the earlier ages, but now pretty much just local teams.
My boys' team is not doing the NSC's "USA Cup" because we figured we could do MRL, State Cup and one other tournament for the same price. It is WAAAAAAAY too expensive.
The head coach for FC Indiana is Shek Borkowski. He has coached the team since the beginning and will continue to lead the ladies again this year. His consistently coaches the team to the upper end of the Midwest division. Every year, be it in the WPSL or the USL W-League, he has lead a winning team. While being with FC Indiana, he has won the division every year except for in 2006 when the team took third.
Might the coach of the FC Indiana women be the legendary Shekki?
Lightning 1 FC Indiana 1 last night. Lightning outplayed pretty bad, but a decent result against the number 6 team in the world. FC Indiana has won against WPS teams. Pro team vs Amateur team not to bad ladies.
If ever there was a game where anything can happen this game proved it. FC dominated the game. The Lightning goal was an FC own goal. A rather miraculous goal. In soccer nothing is for sure. That's why they play the game. The NING played hard and didn't give up.Good job!
SCV U17B will not be going to regionals as the wild card. Team Ohio won its game this afternoon putting them in first place in MRL U17 Premier Blue which earns them the wildcard.
I would get the marketing rights to the name MN Kicks.
It would be interesting to see - the total attendance for one MN Kicks season versus the total attendance for all of the Thunder games in their history here.
I am told that MYSA is turning away teams for the U9/10 Jamboree.
Anyone have any info? I really hope it isn't true, we really should not be turning away teams from a state association event because the new venue cannot handle an adequate number of teams. :~(
funny how things happen around the country........
At the U16 girls level, the only scenario preventing MTA (despite their lackluster state cup result) from being awarded the spring MRL wildcard slot to regionals is if Ohio Elite won both of their final MRL games today. Ohio Elite did not win the Ohio South State Cup and fate would have it needed to beat two other teams from Ohio South in their last two MRl games. Games that were rescheduled to be played after their state cup had been completed. Teams they could not beat during their own state cup. I'm guessing you can figure out the rest of the story. Good luck to both teams from Ohio South at the upcoming regional tournament...........
Are you implying that the outcome of a game was determined by coaches and not solely the players on the field? Travesty? Let the witch hunt begin... Oh it was MTA that got screwed...no big deal.
Are the Thunder Academy players and parents aware of the train wreck of a team they're aligned with? I'd be hiding my MTA badge in public if I were them.
it is really to bad more people don't go watch the Lightning play. Most of players are from MN high schools, most played club in MN, and the ones that did not play club in MN, went to the U of M. And no they all did not play for DS or MTA or Bangu or Tsunami or Wings. Go watch them play a lot are working or going to school full time, and the best goal scorer in MN history plays on the team. Yawn are you kidding they tied the top team in their league 1-1 and scored 6 goals the other night. If their games are boring who is going to go watch your kid play in a U 14 game or a HS game or a college game. Support MN soccer and go see a game.
Looks like we need someone to stir things up, so here goes.
Is it me, or do other people just not get excited about girls' soccer? I go and watch these supposedly amazing teams, and I'm like, yawn. I'm not anti-girl -- I love girls' hockey and girls' basketball -- I just think girls' soccer is boring and predictable. I know I'll incur the wrath of DD parents, but do any non-parents agree with me?
To me girls hockey and bb are, relative to the boy's counterparts, more boring than girl's soccer vs boy's soccer. I find bb and hockey painfully boring in general though.
151, your kidding right? I would rather have root canal than have to sit and watch girls hockey or even basketball. Girls hockey should be outlawed please leave it to the boys.
Heard some Interesting news: Some EP U16 players are guesting with the Thunder in a Canada tournament. In return, the Thunder U16 players are guesting with EP 16 team to Indiana for US Club.
Are they looking to merge the two teams? Or is thunder on a recruiting spree? What will WH say about this all of this?
Would really like to know what the true story is here.
Until MN upgrades the quality of coaching nothing is going to appreciably change. The quality and quantity of players is increasing but coaching lags big time. The sad thing is there really aren't any good options for the players.
if MTA players are guesting with EP, how do you not know it's not the other way around? btw, word is neither of those two coaches are expected back with those two respective teams. Could it possibly be that both teams are either injury riddled and/or lack depth?
they say where there's smoke there's fire, but imo there isn't even a spark here.....
The blow that the EP coach took over their loss at state cup was huge. His ego is shaken.
No matter which way it went, this is a gift to EP. The Thunder is admitting that they have quality players and then letting can compete along side of them in Canada. That seems strange from a club who standard of training is stated to be far above that of a cc. As for coaching, the EP coach is gone? Where did you get that information from? Might be something the team and parents might want to know.
imo, mta u16 and ep u16 have always had tremendous mutual respect for each other (hopefully they will now include wayzata u16's into the mix).
9:06, it's obvious you are an ep parent. why not ask you coach or club instead of trying to find your answers on a blog (unless you are just trying to stir things up).
LOL 10:08, etc... Sounds like your daughters weren't invited, "eh" (thought I would throw a little "Canadian" in there for you). and btw, if EP is such a great program and club, why would they want to leave???
So, like, when will the Thunder get relegated to USL second division, where they appear to belong, or is it a money thing? It must be hard for the MTA kids to swagger so much when they wear the Thunder badge. It's like, "eeeeeeew!"
Check back on this thread two months from now after tryouts are done and I bet that no EP players end up moving to MTA. Sounds like just a few folks are getting worked up over nothing (hard to believe that ever happening on this blog).
EP HOLD THE LINE!!! We need alternatives to the MTA , especially at this age group. There's nothing to gain by going to the Blue, White or Red? teams in the future.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 1009 Newer› Newest»What's the deal with MRL scheduling in the U15 boys 1st Division? I thought teams from the same club had to play in the first third of the schedule or both teams lose the game. MU wildcats and MU jedi have the game scheduled for 6/7, very last game of the league... As far as I can see, the rules state no consideration for rain outs... anybody have any insight?
8:14,
I believe that is a MYSA rule...not a MWL rule.
Directly from the MRL 2009 Spring Season Scheduling Policy.
GAMES BETWEEN TEAMS FROM SAME CLUB
All games that are to be played between teams from the same club must be played during the first one third of each team’s season or the game will be considered a No-Contest.
10:20 - Ouch! Does MU think the rules don't apply? That's unfortunate...
MU's volunteer leadership is suspect at best. Self-serving and manipulative. So much for "We're an elite club, look at the Jedi!" rallying cry.
Each ECNL team must participate in three of five regular-season events:
- Eclipse Select Challenge Cup: Aug. 14-16, 2009, in Chicago
- NCAA Women's College Cup: Dec. 4-6, 2009, in College Station, Texas
- Disney's Soccer Showcase: Dec. 31, 2009-Jan. 3, 2010, in Orlando, Fla.
- Las Vegas Showcase: March 2010
- PDA Showcase: May 2010 in Zaraphath, N.J.
1:11-The "cash cow" teams can subsidize the expenses incurred (travel, players recruited to play for free, etc.) by the "elite" teams.
1:27 - great response. Not that 1:11 understands what "that level" means, but that's o.k....Apparently he's in marketing.
LOL - Don't worry 1:27, I am sure in the ECNL there will be no bad weather, no cancellations, no costs, no missing school, and no etc.).
1:11 I don't believe these teams or their players would be eligible for state cup. Here are the rules...
3. a. Team
In order to participate in the Minnesota State Cup each team must:
• Be comprised of players properly registered with the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association and
listed on the official league roster;
• Be in good standing with the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association;
• Compete in at least a 4-team approved league during the current seasonal year in its State
Association, US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional League or US Youth Soccer National League or
with its State Association’s permission in another State Association, except for the U19 age
group for boys and girls. The league competition must consist of a minimum of one game against
each of 3 different teams participating in the league. Whether participation in any amateur league
shall qualify a youth team for Championship competition under this policy shall be determined by
each State Association;
• Roster only 18 players (U13 - U15) or 22 players (U16 - U19);
• NOT over roster players; or
• NOT use any guest or play-up players.
3. b. Players
In order to participate in the Minnesota State Cup each player must:
• Be properly registered and listed on the league roster in accordance with the rules of US Youth
Soccer and the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association;
1:11,
Many think MTA revolves around State Cup but this move obviously shows those thinking in that manner are wrong and have been wrong.
The bigger focus is and has been about player development and allowing players to play at the highest level.
This new league fits that bill and when the boys teams are admitted to the US Development Academy in the near future they too will forego USYS State Cup event.
Anyone see the Rochester PDL teams roster?
http://www.uslsoccer.com/scripts/runisa.dll?M2:gp::72011+Elements/Display+E+47116+USL/Roster/+13598682+13381307
Outside of 4 players they are weak. Looks more like a decent mens league team. The Thunder could have 2 mens teams that win 0 games this year.
2:36
Inside Soccer has an expanded roster list
http://www.insidemnsoccer.com/
7/5 2:27
You are wrong. MTA's top coach said at the beginning of the year everything is geared to winning state cup. He also said he does not develop players as they have already been developed by the time he gets them. Ask him if he did in fact say that.
so who is this MTA top coach? and while you are at it you can let us know what your name is as well......
Wow, you guys are good to have an insight into the entire PDL roster which has 10 international players....

Obviously some of the players who's country of origin is listed as international are US citizens. I believe the intent of the post was that a few folks where knocking the makeup of the team and it questioned their player knowledge with such a geographically diverse group of players. Basically, "ragging on the raggers".
At quick glance, I see 4 of last year's SSM U18 team on the roster. Interesting....
Any news on the Lightning? Have they released their roster?
Where is the faulty logic here?
U15 – U17 ECNL Structure:
The ECNL will be developed and expanded year-by-year with a 5-year strategic plan with the long-term goal of creating a national competition schedule of 30 games.
Year 1 & 2:
In 2009-2010 the U15-U17 ECNL will feature 40 clubs with teams in the U15, U16 and U17 age groups.
Year 3 & 4:
In years 3 and 4, and potentially earlier if agreed upon by the clubs, the ECNL will expand the regular season schedule by including regional games, to create a 21/24-game regular season. Each club will play four home and four away games (in weekend schedules with a maximum of 2 games), and schedules will be arranged to provide travel partners.
Year 5 and beyond:
In year 5 the ECNL will reach its final stage. Participating clubs will participate in only the ECNL in a schedule that is expanded to an annual calendar featuring 30-40 games culminating in the ECNL National Championship Event.

Knowing the game does not make someone a good coach. It makes the knowledgeable about the game.
And not having a clue about the game beyond writing checks to your local City activity board makes you an even worse poster on a website.
good one 1:00, I think you hit it on the head for 90% of the mommy's & daddy's on this forum
Amen 2:23. Well said.
You know what's great about MYSA? It allows parents to live vicariously through their kids.
MTA? It allows parents to control their kids as they live vicariously through them.
SSM? It allows parents to send their kids away as they control them as they live vicariously through them.
M!M!
MTA is great because it gives the masses someone to hate.
SSM is great because it gives MTA someone to hate.

Now that is a hoot....you go M!M!
looks like Friday happy hour started early for a few folks out there (probably mediocre beer with mediocre appetizers)....

Minnesota Thunder U13 Boys teams have 3 of the 4 semi-finalists at State Cup.
2:23, M!M!'s mum was a test tube and his father was an eyedropper.
i can pretty much guarantee you that it is just a new moniker for an old time "hater" - a non-discriminating hater.
Rochester PDL drops a game against a short rostered Menace team. Even though Rochester had more of their experienced players. Could be a long season.
Have the Minnesota Titanic, er- Thunder, won a game yet? I see they played the Chicago Sockers U14s in an exhibition the other night. Did they win that one?
M!M!
M!M!
2:23 here:
Go away, 2:23. We don't need a moral cop in here.
Why isnt the roster posted for the lightning??
12:48 = another moronic parent. Would be a NASCAR fan if he lived south of Mason-Dixon line. Still has his own teeth.
1:36 - that's a few requests. what gives?
Why is that 12:48, you like the idea of making 8 year olds feel bad?
Scream away bad parent. Scream away.
From IMS -
2009 April 16
The truth is out there.
5:52 - Do you know nothing about marketing?? When you continue to post the same self serving tripe again and again, you only turn more and more people against you.
The first time that was posted, you may have gotten a certain percentage of people to reconsider their feelings towards the Thunder. With each successive post, however, people are just getting annoyed.
uh i think he means boys pointy football, not the lady gophers - unless Joe Pa is making a move to women's soccer!
IMS-Please stop posting this. We've all read it you are in the minrity.-boring.
Something's hitting too close to home me thinks...
What is hitting close to home?
Hey 8:55 since you love to say "me thinks" you should know how to spell it, it is actually one word.
Methinks
Me*thinks"\, v. impers. [imp. Methought.] [AS. [thorn]yncan to seem, m[=e] [thorn]ynce[eth], m[=e] [thorn][=u]hte, OE. me thinketh, me thoughte; akin to G. d["u]nken to seem, denken to think, and E. think. See Me, and Think.] It seems to me; I think. See Me. [R., except in poetry.]
In all ages poets have been had in special reputation, and, methinks, not without great cause. --Spenser.
Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, © 1996, 1998 MICRA, Inc
IMS may be in the minority among the haters on this blog but that encompasses only about 10-15 lost souls who have nothing better to do than whine about youth soccer and the injustice they find in a couple of elite clubs/organizations.
If they weren't the minority, the Thunder would be selling more tickets. I really don't think any of the club DOCs are bad-mouthing the Thunder as some imagine. I think that the Thunder and MTA are under the mistaken belief that they have any real effect on soccer here in MN or anywhere else. With or without them MN soccer would be the same as it is now.
IMS in search of youth soccer correspondent...
http://www.insidemnsoccer.com/
Let's break this letter down a bit:
1. a youth system that lures players away from local community clubs.
4. The majority of the MN soccer community looks at MYSA as the end all be all of soccer knowledge in this state
- This kind of nonsense is just worthless.
- Where's the poll?
- Really? You know for a fact that the MAJORITY of the MN Soccer community views the MYSA a certain way.
- You can't even define the MN soccer community, let alone suggest what more than 1/2 of them think.
5a. The . . . community club . . . members and paid coaching directors. . . are the gatekeepers of information to the masses
- No they absolutly are not.
2:23
Well said 2:23. Do people really think that whether or not the Vikings or Twins are here or not affects youth football or baseball? You would have to be a bit slow to think so.
i hope everyone on this thread don't sprain their ankles stepping down off of their soapboxes.....
So is the 2009 Lightning Roster a secret? Anyone have a clue?
11:04, everyone needs to come down from their soapboxes...except for 2:23. Because 2:23 is God. He speaks for all of us, and teaches us how to think. Thank you, 2:23, for your wisdom. I am a floundering soccer parent without your guidance.
M!M!
Wow, 9:45, it looks like somebody hit a nerve. You must have seen a lot of red ink in college, that is if you went to college.
Maybe the Lightning are having difficulty getting player commitments.
methinks there are now quite a few methinks (or me thinks) on this blog (although I doubt many of them remember the line from Hamlet).
Oh, and I still think 2:23 is an idiot.
M!M!
not sure we should all be proud or scared to realize that M!M! knows how to google......
Check out Minesota's top soccer club, as determined by Top Drawer Soccer (hint, they're #105 nationally).
http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/component/option,com_topdrawer/Itemid,332/?utm_source=email
and Forbes magazine (or was it Fortune) ranked Kevin McHale as the top GM in professional sports. both sets of research must have come from the same folks.
Hey M!M! just to be clear, which of my posts has elucidated my idiocy:
That is the question for you.
2:23
yeah, 3:33, you're probably right. The same survey has MTA girls ranked tops in Minnesota, ahead of SCV.
My purpose is to raise the blood pressure of slugs like you. It appears to be working.
M!M!
Poor use of the "to be or not to be" quote, by the way. It refers to something much much deeper than simply choosing between option A and option B.
Also, in calling you an idiot, methinks M!M! is saying, "You are as a candle, the better burnt out" (Henry IV).
Peace, ye fat guts! (Henry IV). Get thee to a nunnery (Hamlet), O illiterate loiterer! (The Two Gentlemen of Verona)
M!T!
3:02, you should be more clear. That is the top mens club. Now go look at the top women's clubs. Hint, see #40.
http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/component/option,com_topdrawer/Itemid,332/gender,w/
...or 45
i doubt MTA would want to trade their 6 state cups on the boys side over the last 2 years for SCV's higher TopDrawer ranking (and one state cup). On the girls side I think the number might be more like 10 to 1.
If you combine the Wings and Thunder, like they should have MTA would be 54th, way ahead of SCV. Congrats to SCV for being 104th that is a great honor.
whether it is MTA, SCV, WDB, IOU, PU, LOL, etc.... what in the world are these rankings based off of?
I prefer a four egg hamlet with ham and roons.
By the way Gerty was quite the favorite of the boys down at The Wild Boar Pub.
read the tds website, they are very clear how they rank clubs. one can argue the validity and/or accuracy, but they spell out their method clearly
not bad for a CC
kinda of like how Forbes was very clear how they did their rankings and names Kevin McHale as the best GM in professional sports.
9:45 AM, 5:38 here.
Not everyone works 9-5. Some of us are just getting off work at this time of day. I love how you call someone a loser for the time they read the blog. You're so much better because you wait for an hour or two after you get up. Well, at least I wait until I get home from work and I'm finishing my day.
M!M!, "I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!" (Monty Python, Holy Grail, Scene 8).
M!M! - "leave this blog now or we will taunt you another time" and yes, we are French...
M!M!: Run away! Run Away!
Is M!M! Shekki in disguise?
hey idiot, 9:54 here.
Top Tier Professional League roster - 18 points
(England, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Netherlands, Argentina, Brazil - top divisions only)
2nd Tier Professional League roster - 15 points
(2nd divisions of the above, MLS, Mexico, Belgium, Scotland, Portugal , Greece, roughly 7 to 25 in UEFA coefficients, Colombia, Chile, Japan, Korea, and Australia)
3rd Tier Professional League roster - 12 points
(USL, 26 to 50 in UEFA coefficient, other African, South American, and Asian Leagues)
Moving on!
Whoo Hoo! A victory for decent people.
2:23
Two things: (1) People won't ignore, and thus (2) I won't go away.
Nice try, 2:23. I do enjoy the length of your posts, because it means you're wasting substantial amounts of your time. Whoo Hoo!
M!M! (am not now nor never was Shekki)
P.S. There are no decent people here.
P.S. Poor use of the word "flummoxed." I am most certainly neither confused nor perplexed. You asked why I'm here, and I responded clearly and succinctly. No confusion.
M!M!
M!M! you are the best.....keep at them and maybe they will see the light
I want all M!M! all of the time.
There are only 2 reasons anyone would visit this site.
1) To watch the train wreck
2) To brag about their child
I'm a 1. More M!M!
I'm a number 1 as well. I do not even have a child actively playing anymore. Just fun to read the posts. Bad habit I guess. And to think that I was once one of the crazy parents.
Yyyyawn, Someone keeps stroking his own ego.
I wasn't stroking myself. Someone else was. Needless to say, I enjoyed it.
P.S. Remember the sage words of idiot 2:23 (you know, God), who said to stop talking to me and I'll go away.
M!M!
ALL Aboard! All of you with tickets it's time to board the Crazy Train.
2:26,
Don't encourage that piece of Sh!t.
it's not coincidence that this thread died down once M!M! starting chiming in. everyone scurried off like rats on a sinking ship.
Uncomfirmed rumor that Chicago Magic just merged with Eclipse, will go under the Eclipse banner. Both boys and girls.
The rich just got richer!!
The rich just got richer, and Shekki just got back (from negotiating the Eclipse/Magic merger). Didya miss me?
Shekki
2:23
The 'good' people. Who made you god?
I personally like Shekki and M!M!. I don't always agree, but I hate lemmings. With all the democrats in MN, I can't believe you all feel like status quo is where its at...oh that's right the donkeycrats (and repuklakins) are all about status quo. Eat the rich!
anyone who likes a known racist has problems...
anyone who know what's best for everyone is just well scary...
try and thing for yourself people or are we sheep......
Baa Baa Black sheep have you read this blog....
2:23, were you the leader of the "Dungeons and Dragons" club at your high school? As long as you post such idiotic drivel, I won't need people to respond directly to me. I can have a field day with you.
M!M!
Expect to see a lot player turnover next year. Several reasons. The economy will have impact. Lots of parents sticking it out for the balance of year. Also parents starting to see the #1 priority is club finances and not player development. There are a few coaches who have the innate ability to alienate players and parents and this will have a negative impact on commitments.
anon 1:58,
Player turnover from what team or club?
Just soccer clubs/teams in general?
1:58 you're right that the economy will probably push some kids out of higher cost clubs next year.
As a coach, watching so many parent email addresses change from BestBuy.com and seagate.com to free services, I know many families are struggling.
Tell us more about this, "Also parents starting to see the #1 priority is club finances and not player development."
Do you have specifics you can cite, share? What are you experiencing?
2:23
PS - Remember everyone, resist the urge to respond to M!M! (I haven't seen his racism but to hear it's a problem is no surprise). Just continue ignoring him.
5:30
There actually are some bad people on this blog.
2:23
lack of playing time at the state cup is your best clue on which players the blue teams have already decided to relegate
9:07 wasn't me. But I seem to have fullfilled my purpose. Au revoir.
M!M!
That team played together thru U19. They were national runnersup at 17 and 18. What are you talking about?

The MTA Executive Board is aware of an incident at State Cup this past weekend. It was a coach's decision that came into question; an individual decision, and it was not supported by the club. We are looking into it further to deem whether any disciplinary action is needed.
Give me a break. The executive board is made up of good ol boys. Nothing of significance will happen.
to read some of the anit-MTA folks on the girls blog some are calling for all MTA teams to be disqualified from State Cup and even go as far as disbanding the club.
Yes. The MA and Bangu bashers are so angry and excited they're drooling on their keyboards and creaming in their jeans.
It's like Christmas day for anti Bangu bunch.
2:34 your gross go wash your mouth out with some dish soap

IS THIS GOING TO AFFECT THE SOCCER CLIMATE IN MN
http://www.insidemnsoccer.com/
From Inside MN Soccer
Minnesota State High School League amended some rules on Monday concerning soccer.
The rule change was approved 45-0 by the State High School League to change the no contact rule.
The rule was supported by the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA), and will take effect this year.
According to the Tribune,
It makes it a violation for high school soccer players to also play on a non-school team once the high school season begins.
9:07 sorry I misunderstood you. Still not sure I do.
Beyond me being an idiot, I think your point is that I'm saying, "people who are different are bad."
I'm saying people who are racist are bad. People who are malevolent are bad. That's not really a stretch. Racist is pretty easy to spot and is bad.
Isn't it the racist who says, "different is bad!"?
Help us understand the apparent incongruity.
- One hand your point is, "don't say different opinions are bad".
- Other hand you say, "I support people making racist comments"
Can you clarify how those go together?
2:23
Geez, 2:23. Let it go. Shekki's gone.
Do the Lightning have a team this year? Nary a word posted.
The Lightning 2009 Schedule is out, but the Roster looks like it's from 2008? I'll send an email to MN Thunder asking what's up.
MTA is horrible and now witht he resenet events it proves that are all shady individuals. They have lost all respect and many now feel sorry for their players and parents for being put in poor situations. shame on you!
6:53 - I agree! Every single coach is shady, every single kid plays dirty, every parent is obnoxious, even their uniforms are evil.
you crack me up 6:53.
From a WSC Parent - attended the NSC Cup this weekend (boy has it gone down hill). MTA coach of a B flight u11 game got tossed from the championship game for comments to the ref. More good lessons out there from our friends at MTA!
NSC Cup.was a waste of time. Saw three mediocre games. Drop this excuse for a tournament in the future.
WSC Parent - Do your club a favor and show a little class. Please stay out of the mud.
From the Lightning's latest PR blatherings...
Maybe the Thunder brass could get him to coach the Lightning and make him the Doc of MTA. This is the kind of upgrade Minnesota needs.
Where is that Shekki anyway? He said he was leaving, but I didn't believe him. Is he spewing his wisdom on the MTA girls blog?
M!M!
Shekki,
Just go away. We don't want racists spewing in here.
Your M!M! disguise doesn't work.
Lightning 1 FC Indiana 1 last night. Lightning outplayed pretty bad, but a decent result against the number 6 team in the world. FC Indiana has won against WPS teams. Pro team vs Amateur team not to bad ladies.
Lightning should win the championship this year.
Anyone know how the Lightning / Thunder double header ended up tonight?
Thunder lost again, Lightning won
Time to change the Thunder name.
Time to start over.
I would get the marketing rights to the name
MN Kicks.
Lightning = yawn.
Thunder = barf.
Please don't bring Kicks or Strikers into the discussion. That was soccer. Not sure what this is.
11:17
Are you implying that the outcome of a game was determined by coaches and not solely the players on the field? Travesty? Let the witch hunt begin... Oh it was MTA that got screwed...no big deal.
How did MTA get "screwed" (your terminology)?
Are the Thunder Academy players and parents aware of the train wreck of a team they're aligned with? I'd be hiding my MTA badge in public if I were them.
What's that smell?
MTA will only be bigger and better next year. Some things never change.
it is really to bad more people don't go watch the Lightning play.
Lightening I can support.
MN Kicks I can support
MN Gophers I can support ( if they want me ;-) )
MN Thunder - see second statement. Time to start fresh. Not that I know anything about marketing or anything.
DT
To me girls hockey and bb are, relative to the boy's counterparts, more boring than girl's soccer vs boy's soccer. I find bb and hockey painfully boring in general though.
151, your kidding right? I would rather have root canal than have to sit and watch girls hockey or even basketball. Girls hockey should be outlawed please leave it to the boys.
girls hockey is ok, can't stand basketball boys or girls.
I think the worse is girls lacrosse - sorry ems! too many stoppages and you can't do a darn thing from a physical nature like the boy's game.
Girls hockey would be better if they allowed checking.
Any clubs losing players to lacrosse? I was worried, but our numbers have continued to increase every year.
sorry, but that is 5 posts in a row where no club, event or indidivual was critized. knock it off.....
Shekki and 2:23 must be on vacation (together?).
Looks like MTA u14 girls won their MRL division.
Shekki leaves and this entire blog turns downright boring. C'mon, haters and hater-haters, let's stir something up.
Heard some Interesting news:
Some EP U16 players are guesting with the Thunder in a Canada tournament.
In return, the Thunder U16 players are guesting with EP 16 team to Indiana for US Club.
Are they looking to merge the two teams?
Or is thunder on a recruiting spree?
What will WH say about this all of this?
Would really like to know what the true story is here.
could it just be they are guest playing for the sake of playing soccer with fellow U16's (who they all know anyway)......
Would be great if it was ever that simple.
Seems to be more to this story.
I heard the players on EP were just told about this yesterday. Anyone know the response from the team?
Also heard there was alot of siteings with the EP coach and ES during MRL.
EP coach was seen watching all Thunder games even when his team was warming up.
Until MN upgrades the quality of coaching nothing is going to appreciably change. The quality and quantity of players is increasing but coaching lags big time. The sad thing is there really aren't any good options for the players.
MTA is desperate to dominate; otherwise the model falls apart. If they are weak at an age group, watch out. They will come after your best players.
BTDT
That is what is happening to the U16 EP team as we speak
if MTA players are guesting with EP, how do you not know it's not the other way around? btw, word is neither of those two coaches are expected back with those two respective teams. Could it possibly be that both teams are either injury riddled and/or lack depth?
they say where there's smoke there's fire, but imo there isn't even a spark here.....
Does it really matter which way it goes?
The blow that the EP coach took over their loss at state cup was huge. His ego is shaken.
No matter which way it went, this is a gift to EP. The
Thunder is admitting that they have quality players and then letting can compete along side of them in Canada.
That seems strange from a club who standard of training is stated to be far above that of a cc.
As for coaching, the EP coach is gone?
Where did you get that information from? Might be something the team and parents might want to know.
EP 16 girls are a one player team.
imo, mta u16 and ep u16 have always had tremendous mutual respect for each other (hopefully they will now include wayzata u16's into the mix).
9:06, it's obvious you are an ep parent. why not ask you coach or club instead of trying to find your answers on a blog (unless you are just trying to stir things up).
MTA coach will be back no doubt about it. The event in Canada is the attempt to get the EP kids to come over.
LOL 10:08, etc... Sounds like your daughters weren't invited, "eh" (thought I would throw a little "Canadian" in there for you). and btw, if EP is such a great program and club, why would they want to leave???
sorry no horse in the race, just like watching the whole scene unfold
I think this is all a moot point if EP has a diff coach
b-bye, EDP players.
So, like, when will the Thunder get relegated to USL second division, where they appear to belong, or is it a money thing? It must be hard for the MTA kids to swagger so much when they wear the Thunder badge. It's like, "eeeeeeew!"
AL
i still don't get it, why would the ep players want to leave? what does mta have to offer that is better than what they currently have?
Check back on this thread two months from now after tryouts are done and I bet that no EP players end up moving to MTA. Sounds like just a few folks are getting worked up over nothing (hard to believe that ever happening on this blog).
9:21 no not an EP parent, a coach at this age watching the drama unfold and hoping not to lose another good team to the false promises of MTA
Knowing how much you people know is a great source of information.
I too hope the EP team can work this out.
The obvious reason for leaving EP team, no coaching.
That was obvious at state cup.
imo, there's no "there" there on this topic, just a few imaginations running wild.
EP HOLD THE LINE!!! We need alternatives to the MTA , especially at this age group. There's nothing to gain by going to the Blue, White or Red? teams in the future.
