Also a very good effort and year for E.P. and their players and the c.c. club system they also mostly play for. Both teams capable of playing again next year in championship game with many young starters.
Woodbury will have 1 more strong year...then they're be just another team in the pack.
Congrats to Osseo 4-1 over St.Louis Park. 4 goals is the most since two classes creation in '97. 3 goals difference is largest since '97 as well.
Thank God the little Napoleon didn't win the HS State Championship. He has a bigger ego than all the other english pricks in MN soccer. Cares nothing about the game but all about himself, his books, and not losing his players to other clubs. Prick with a capital P. We'd be better off without him. Sorry Tomass.

Woodbury has a few more premier teams in the young system so maybe one "down" year (aka no state tournament appearance). That's laughable you say one year and they will be just another team in the pack. Has there ever been any soccer team like this in MN? Something like 6 Finals appearances in 7/8 years. Congrats to them on another amazing year and for the Dynasty to live on.
Wayne going trick-or-treating as Napoleon. LOL!
That's a loooooong way to go.
Have a few beers and relax.

Who is little Napolean?
The Woodbury club had no finalists in State Cup last year at U13, U14 or U15.
I don't see how they will continue to be a strong HS program with that lack of success unless they have a lot of their younger players playing for BTE/MTA?
Is that the case?
Nobody has a bigger ego than that guy at Jefferson. The three most common words in his vocabulary are I,Me and MY.
Isn't Woodbury going to split into two HS next year. That's probably why they got the free pass to the dome this year.
The guy at Jefferson wins...the guy at EP loses.
It's tough to have a big ego when you're a loser.
Woodbury High Schools splits in fall 2009.
Their success in girls soccer will be come much more difficult once that occurs.
How come nobody is defending WH on here?
Amen 519. The Woodbury team next year has the potential to rival last years Lakeville South team and the 2004 Woodbury team as the best teams we have seen at the state tourney this decade. They still have to play the games but they certainly have the ability.
I have always found Wayne H to be a class guy.
to 8:51/9:53 (Lake Fans) towards end of '08 Girls Sectional Thread.
The only thing the game means is that Wayzata's top 18 players were much better than Eastview's top 18. And if Eastview's players "weren't really trying" then they deserve to be 4th place.
Congrats to State High School Champions...
Class AA Boys: Osseo H.S.
Class A Boys: Blake H.S.
Class AA Girls: Woodbury H.S.
Class A Girls: Mahtomedi H.S.
Something to think on.

Hey, I got a question that hopefully someone can answer. On the All Tournament teams I noticed they named some players made the team in positions that they were not playing. Most notable Osseo - Neufville & Bah listed as defenders. I don't think I ever saw these two play as defenders, most of the time they were attackers. Sometime midfielders. Were they submitted as defenders because they wanted to be sure they were noticed? Why list players as defenders if they are really attackers?
no one defends WH because they fear retribution on the girls.
Keep in mind that there will be NO open enrollment for Woodbury, Park and East Ridge , the 3 scholls in district 833 for the first 2 years. When that time is over you will see one of the 3 schools doing great at soccer as the best players may flock to WDB as the best players may flock to Park for girls softball. The 3 schools are not more than 10 minutes apart.
Now if we talk about facilities, East Ridge will have it all.
145 I am not a Lake fan. In fact my sympathies probably lie close to yours. Bragging about the result of a 3'rd place game is bad enough if accurate. To say that Wayzata was much better than EV means you must not have seen the game. EV had the better of it most of the game but WYZ finished their chances and I am sure their keep feels she could have done better. Getting to the dome is the important thing and then getting to the final and winning it is the pinnacle. The team did a great job getting to the dome and gave an excellent WDB team all it could handle. Celebrate that and don't trivialize it by dwelling on things hardly anyone cares about.
They're midfielders. I believe MSHSL got their positions wrong. Check this site for correct info:

The All Tournament Team....they pick the best players on the team.
Position doesn't matter. They just pick the best players. It's a real honor as they are picked by coaches who have actually seen them play unlike the All State team which is strictly a political joke.
I agree that it is a real honor, it just seems strange to call it a All Tournament Team if it is comprises of 2 Goalies, 2 defenders, 10 Midfielders and 8 attackers. Would formation be a 1-5-4?
It almost as if MN soccer lacks a certain amount of sophistication and the we are only able to focus on putting the ball in the net.
Anon 2:20 "They just pick the best players. It's a real honor as they are picked by coaches who have actually seen them play unlike the All State team which is strictly a political joke."
Are you saying WB-"Mr. Soccer" was political joke? It does bring up an interesting question. It seems to me that Mr. Soccer and the All State Teams have some serious selctions problems.
FYI- Michael Coborn -St. Cloud Cathedral IMHO hands down the best player in Class A. Better than Yonga. And I don't think he even made the All State Team but I do believe he's been on the All Tournament team two years running now.
The objective of the game is to score more than your opponents.
Whatever scheme you use as long as you reach your objective.
Take a look at Apple Valley Boys. They don't play pretty soccer but they've won 6 State titles.
Osseo objective was to score more than their opponents and it worked. They've outscored 11-3 in three games. I think it's the record for most goals scored and goals difference.
Too much crying over beers on All-State and Mr. Soccer selection here. If you want change, run for the position to change the process. Otherwise it's just crocodile tears...
Anon 3:29 not sure what the point of your post is?
Osseo is a very good team. If anyone I would think they have more to cry about than another team here. Osseo has at least four increditable soccer players complete overlooked IMHO. The fact that this blog has lit up repeatedly regarding WB, is a joke to how easily the process is contaminated.
"If you want change, run for the position to change the process." Obviously you don't understand the process. Can't run for any positions it is a closed group. The best anyone outside the select group can do is to continually point out that it is a corrupt system and does not merit acknowledgement.
Woodbury is a dynasty like no other we will see in HS soccer for a long time. I know they have a quality club progrma and are lucky for it, but how about some credit for the co-coaches. it is almost like some think they just roll it out there and the girls win state.
the woodbury high school coaches know very little about soccer...they have less soccer knowlege than any coach in their conference, section, or anyone who made it to state on the boys or girls side.
They have been blessed with incredibly talented players over the years...this yr they had 7 starters from the u17 state cup champs, one of the best players on the woodbury 18s, and 3 subs from the 18s.
Last yr they had mauer(bangu and now creighton), as well as lloyd(above average defender)....Previously they had players like the kallman sisters who are now starting in the back for the big ten co-champs.
With the talent they have had and currently have, they should be winning every game by 5+ goals. They did not because of inferior coaching. If you know these guys at all you would agree.
All credit should go to the girls not their inept coaches.
Another case in point...look at DF at LS. He knew what he was doing when he decided to go to LS rather than stay at LN. Heck,LS had half of the Bangu Stars plus MS Soccer.
They won it all last year and got to state again this year. This makes DF a great coach. Don't think so.
Is Northwest Suburban conference tougher than Lake and Classic Lake for the Boys? They've won State two consecutive years now.
Osseo beating St.Louis Park soundingly 4-1 while Jefferson can only tied SLP and lost in shoot-out.
I never understand the selection process either. Defenders never seem to get much respect or opportunity to get many post season accolades.
Woodbury will be OK next year if all the current juniors stay put for their senior year. I think they have the option to move or stay in the transition year. After that, look for Stillwater or Mounds View to take over the East.
Woodbury High School splits in fall 2009.
With the players split between the schools success in girls soccer will become much more difficult to achieve.
Their run is about over and the University of Eden Prairie will most likely dominate. Wayzata also has the enrollment numbers, club talent and coaching to break through once in a while.
657 and 912 these teams (along with EP) have been the most successful this decade. Yes they have had talent over the years and currently there are many Inferno players starting with WDB. I don't believe there were ever more than 5 Stars players that played with LS and only 3 this year. Give these coaches and WH at EP some credit, talent is great to have but it does not automatically translate into on field success.
830 I would not write WDB off. Like him or hate him MA knows how to get young players off to a good start. The current Inferno players that play for WDB played for him until U14. Also the currrent MTA U15 region champ team has many WDB natives that were trained by MA until this year. WDB will be at the dome for years to come.
Eden Prairie is about to be terrible next year... they blew it this year. It is about time they are not at the top for every sport
Brandon Barkus coached Inferno at U13 and U14
anon 3:22PM, quit worrying about All state team and try to enjoy Michael Coborn -St. Cloud Cathedral getting his team to the tournament. if the measure of his accomplishments is being better than Yonga, then I doubt your soccer knowledge for the Yonga kid also has his limitations. Strive for someone higher and continue to push Michael to higher levels. All-state is not the end all and I hope you are not going to let your son fall behind because he did not get picked.
The comment about the co coaches at woodbury is pbobably a parent that did not make varsity this year or another.
The new high school in Woodbury/Cottage Grove, East Ridge, will not have any seniors the first year. All of this year's juniors will be at Woodbury or Park.
Most of the MTA U15 Blue, White, and Gray girls who live in Woodbury will continue to go to Woodbury High School. Only a couple from each team live in the East Ridge area.
why bash DF from LS? My kid played for him and he cares about those kids, really makes a family environment while playing good soccer. No denying talent at LS but he went to LS for more than just that as talent graduates (i.e. facilities and administrators.) LS is shangra la compared to LN. DF has been to the state tourney 8 out of 9 years, won a title, has a second place and been to the final four 6 out of nine years, without some of the talent of other schools. Yes, LS had some major talent last year but they won in amazing fashion. One of the best HS teams you will see for a long time. No team has the talent of WDBRY but their coaches still need to do something, soccer is a team game.
Does it matter where the MTA kids go, i believe WDb and CG do have a few very good players going to East Ridge as Juniors the first year
Who is coaching East Ridge, is Juba going there?
agree with 1059. Kid didn't make the team or play enough so rip the coaches.
i hope juba is not going to east ridge, he bleeds green, would not be good for east ridge.
Talk about confusing school names...Eastview, East Ridge! Way too close. And even after 10+ years people still don't know where Eastview is.
Anon 2/11/08 10:27 AM
I have no relationship to MC from St. Cloud Cathedral. From what I have heard about him and his family, they pay little attention to Mr. Soccer or Soccer politics.
However, I think that Mr. Soccer & Soccer politics, as well as this blog continued hyping of certain players highlights that the system has been corrupted.
In my experience, little attention is paid to Mr. Soccer or the All State Team by college coaches. As one college coach expressed "generally speaking Mr. Soccer awards go to track stars". So, I would agree with you there. But, unless MSHSL & coaches start to recognize that they will be accounability for their selections I only see the awards and honors meaning less and less.
you don't know DS if you think he has a big ego
ask his players he always gives them credit for the success
by the way the coaches association picked him the NSCAA coach of the year, that makes a bunch of those awards for him voted by his peers. That is always a good sign you are doing a good job when your peers recognize the person.
If you asked him he would never tell you he won the award.
leave the guy alone
I agree. Go ask his players and see what they have to say. You may be surprised.
If you think DS doesn't have a big ego then you are riding his jock. Who cares what his ego-driven peers think?
Why not do Mr/Ms Soccer similar to Mr/Ms Basketball? 5 finalists named at beginning of season and then committe goes out and watches the players in games. At end of season committee has seen everyone play, they vote and decision is announced.
You are still not addressing the fundamental challenge of determining what qualifications does one choose to select a Mr soccer candidate? Being that it is a senior year recognition, how do you separate the boys that are in weak conferences where stats are padded in meaningless games and when sections roll in, these teams are eliminated and the kid cannot be evaluated against real competition. Here are the some ideas to start with on how one can even be considered.
1)# of years played in HS soccer
2) What kind of impact have you had to the school during this time(i.e. conference, section and state championships
3)individual recognition during HS career(all state,all american,all region,all tournament, etc)
4)What kind of club accomplishments did he have (ODP pool, team, midwest league, state cup)
5)Overall individual stats
By starting with this criteria, you level the playing field and are able to focus on the most qualified candidates. The coaches will still have their own opinions but at least they would be comparing apples to apples.
I know this question doesn't relate to this topic, but just wondering if anyone went to the MYSA AGM on Saturday. Anything interesting happen? Any new rules accepted?
I think the biggest issue at AGM was the fact several clubs were vocal about MYSA not being willing to negotiate with NSC on fields and tournament issues.
Ms. Soccer is determined as follows. Every conference in the state ranks thier players 1-whatever. If the #1 ranked player is a senior, they are put up for Ms. Soccer. A committee of coaches then votes on the winner. This year, they did a very curiois job. The RC player is a great kid and good player, but there were others up for it that did not recieve it due to politics-the coaches association wanted to give the award to an out state kid to keep those coaches happy, even though there may have been more deserving players in the metro.
Jerry Yonga, where were you at the AGM? Many rule changes proposed by him to favor top teams, e.g., ability to move from club to club and retain status, greased pathway to Premier status if play MRL, etc., etc., but he didn't show to make the case.
Club owning Premier status is a joke IMO.
WB also had his proposals to allow more play ups shot down and also his proposal to allow premier players to play up to older C1 levels.
Everyone was onto the "games" he played last year with several of his players.
Comments revolved around no need to open this up for more abuse of play up rules.
Was it me or was the Tournament Director positioning himself for the President's position. Seemed to be the only one to show some passion and philosophy toward the players.
That's why they should discontinue Mr and MS soccer. It's a farce.
927-
there are probably 5-10 deserving seniors, but only one can win the award...she was one of the 5-10, leave it at that. She did not ask for the award or conspire against every other candidate; it was given to her.
you can stand behind the assertion that you are merely criticising the process, but realistically you are saying she is not good enough...What purpose does that serve?
Exactly...None. Get over it and move on.
What kind of club accomplishments did he have (ODP pool, team, midwest league, state cup)
This should have no bearing on high school soccer. Players should be judged on High school only, not what they have done in the club environment.
Mr/Ms Soccer is about high school only and granted there are questions on the selection process every year, but maybe a bit more investigation of the players by the review committee would be best.
Just keep club soccer out of high school.
The basketball award is even more stupid. Put someone on a list before the season starts? How stupid is that?
The whole All State and Mr Soccer is seriously flawed. There are number of Coaches that are unpolitical, and not interested in putting up players because of various reasons. Contrast that with the Coaches that come off as cheerleaders for players and there is no objective standard or process.
where was JY - it was a choice betwen the future of this country and the future of MYSA soccer. Both political directions which your truyly is passionate about. However the future or MYSA though has its crisis, the future of the nation is more critical and thus your truly was campaigning for the boy from windy city.
proposals to change the course of MYSA will be doable next year but the future of this country;s leadership can't be duplicated next year.
The challenges of youth soccer development in Minnesota is beyond MYSA capabilities and the misunderstanding of its mission continues to beg for real change and one that is beyond one rule change. You may disagree with a rule but what progressive rule changes was passed at the last agm? The last five years we ask our selves? are we better today with MYSA than we were five years ago? if the answer is yes, then we stay the course and ask for no change. But I can assure you there is a big need for a change of direction. Keep hope alive! go vote for change - Peace
JY
Thanks, Jerry.
CM
MYSA needs a little competition.
They are more concerned about their financial position than catering to the various needs of the players and the clubs.
It sounds as if they're finally expressing a little concern over possible competitive challenges to their monopoly here in Minnesota.
Competition makes all involved better.
Bring it on!
Congrats to PP All-State players! A few shuffling changes from Strib Metro and MSHSSCA list but seems there is a general consensus on who has played well this past season. Good work Ladies!
8:48...just like colleges do with preseason all-american picks or players to watch, Heisman, etc. Common thing to do in sports. Why do you think it's stupid?
9:27 If that's the way it works then KB wasn't even considered for Ms. Soccer last year since her teammate won it and would have been ranked higher. Now that would be silly.
When is the Senior Classic Game for the all-state players played at the Dome??
Wwednesday. Boys report 4:45 and girls report at 6:45
Game times are 6 and 8
Star Trib and Pioneer Press used to have a whole section on preseason picks and players to watch. Due to budget constraints, they have not published it for the past 2 years.
how does the Pioneer Press select their all state team? I know the Trib has coaches fill out ballots.
IMHO JY - At present the rules favor the greater good of soccer in MN. Your changes would send us back to a system of teams manipulating clubs for their own self-interest and clubs being unable to develop players for the greater good of their communities. Soccer is changing and has changed considerably over the past four years. Some these changes have been good, some of these changes have not been so good, but that is generally, what people call growth.
If you had attended, the AGM I think you would have found how unsupported your ideas for MN soccer is. Personally, I will watch this upcoming season with interest to see how well you are able to sit on the parent sidelines and not interfere with your son’s team. I think this coming season will be a growth opportunity for you, but I am not sure you are ready for it.
On the girls side, all-state team looks pretty accurate as far as naming the best players....Kind of curious how one of woodbury's top 3 players did not receive honorable mention, when most of the other starters(all inferno players) did. mn soccer politics, perhaps?
with 80 players making honorable mention it is amazing anyone was left off.
anon 4/11/08 1:13 PM: let's discuss soccer at another venue and not here. kids are watching.
laptoptravel@hotmail.com is my email. I will buy you a beer and we can really go at it. To empty our dirty laundry in public since we are all grown ups will be not showing leadership. my kids needs to see maturity and I prefer the Irish pub in MG and after a couple of beers, who knows...we may never agree but drink some good pint - let's always remember its a game not life and death - only when you insult people - OK. maybe tonight after the windy city kid lands the big ticket -- I will buy really. I am waiting for your email.JY
What exactly are these proposed changes?
Hat off to JY for coming out and signing his post, good lad!
jy,did you campaign 4 years ago too?
Who did you campaign for that night?
you think HS soccer has too much politics? club season is hysterical!
Osseo is no good without Whitney Browne. Their defense is shaky. Keeper is newbie and drops ball. Coach is psycho.
OSSEO IS NO GOOD!!!!

is this thread closed down?
how can u say osseo isnt good they just won stated dumbass
how can u say osseo isnt good they just won stated dumbass
HS season is history.Move on.
Anyone going to the senior classic tonight?
JY - There a lots of good excuses not to go to AGM -- I was thinking of most of them while I sat there, but forgive me if I challenge the excuse of spending the day campaigning for BO. BO was 19 points ahead in the polls published last week and the result was not in doubt. Contrast the proposals that you submitted to AGM -- those were at risk, of course, without someone to stand up and argue the nuances of why they would improve player development and soccer in MN. There is good reason to have a debate on these subjects, in the light of day and far away from the anonymity and cheap shots of the blogs. I really wish you would have attended. By making the proposals, and then appearing to duck and run, you only further set back your cause, which is a serious one.
The all state game is political bogus. Don't waste your time.
all state versus honorable mention may be bogus, but deserving players get one or the other, rarely is someone left off either if they are deserving
Congrate to PP All-State selection, they were more honest then star tribune...PP team were more about players that play in the seasons not player who coach is well known or players who being playing for numbers of years...
WHITNEY BROWNE OSSEO, F, SR.
Facing constant double- and triple-team defenses, the talented playmaker and scorer had a breakout season in not only helping power the Orioles to the Class AA title but also being selected as the Class AA Mr. Soccer Award winner. Scored 31 goals. "He has been able to apply power to his shots, as well as finesse, and with both feet," Orioles coach Scott Smith said. "That makes him such an unpredictable threat to our opponents."
MICHAEL COBORN ST. CLOUD CATHEDRAL, F, JR.
A two-time selection, he scored 27 goals and assisted on 12 to lead the Crusaders to a second consecutive state tournament berth. In the past two seasons, he has a combined 67 goals and 27 assists. "He's not a big guy, but he's strong," Crusaders coach John Pepper said. "You've got painters and you've got artists. Michael's an artist."
RODRIGO GALVAN ST. PAUL HUMBOLDT, MF, SR.
Scored 20 goals and assisted on 10 to lead the Hawks to a 10-5-2 record and a 6-4-2 mark in the St. Paul City Conference. A free-kick specialist and a strong leader. "Without Rodrigo, we would have had a good team," Hawks coach Matt Osborne said. "With
Rodrigo, we have a great team." He is Humboldt's all-time leading scorer with 55 goals. Considering playing at Wisconsin.
CHAD GILMER BLOOMINGTON JEFFERSON, D, SR.
Had two goals and two assists in leading the Jaguars to the third-place trophy in the Class AA tournament. Finished season with seven goals and six assists. Scored a pivotal goal on a free kick in the Section 2AA final. Strong in the air, excellent in one-on-one situations and a strong tackler. "He was crucial to everything we did," Jaguars coach Danny Storlien said.
SAM HYNEH MINNEAPOLIS SOUTH, F/MF, SR.
Scored 12 goals and assisted on 11 others for the Minneapolis City Conference champions, who finished the season 13-6-1. "What separates him from others is his vision, distribution and ability to beat multiple defenders in tight spaces off the dribble," Tigers coach Danny Dietl said. "He's got that extra bit of touch and understanding to put the correct weight, arc and spin on passes. He consistently does things game in and game out that are beyond other players at this level."
BIJAN JABARI APPLE VALLEY, D, JR.
A rising star as a two-year starter, he was voted the top defender in the tough Lake Conference. Scored seven goals and assisted on six in helping to anchor the top-ranked Eagles to a conference title and a Section 3AA championship. "Bijan is the heart and soul of Eagle soccer," Apple Valley coach Chuck Scanlon said. "He is just an outstanding soccer player."
DANNY KEMP EDEN PRAIRIE, D, SR.
With Kemp's stellar play, Eden Prairie surrendered just nine goals all season. While he didn't register any points, he started Eden Prairie's counterattack. Excellent passer with outstanding field vision. "He is skilled, confident and has great instincts," Eagles coach Vince Thomas said.
DAN KILLEN ST. BERNARD'S, MF, SR.
The Pioneer Press' player of the year. Had a breakout season with 32 goals and eight assists in 18 games. Six of those games were against ranked opponents. In addition to being selected the Tri-Metro Conference player of the year, he was selected Class A Mr. Soccer. It was the second year in a row the private school from St. Paul has had the Class A Mr. Soccer winner.
ERIC MILLER WOODBURY, MF, SOPH.
A two-year starter for the Royals who scored 10 goals and assisted on two goals, including two goals and an assist in three playoff games. "He has masterful control with the ball when he is dribbling," Royals coach Joe Quintavalle said. "The combination of his dribbling and shooting skills makes him a very dangerous player around the goal area."
PAUL YONGA TOTINO-GRACE, MF, JR.
Led the top-ranked Eagles to a 19-3-1 record, a Section 5A championship and a runner-up finish in Class A . Had 21 goals and 22 assists. Last season, had just two assists. "Paul is a special talent," Totino-Grace coach Bill Vance said. "He is also both selfless and extremely talented. He is the early favorite to be the Class A Mr. Soccer winner next year.
Saw my first Senior Classic tonight. Boys were 0-0 draw. Girls AA 3- A 0.
I hate to say it but there was a definite difference in skill/talent on the girls side. There were exceptions but overall the AA group were stronger. Did chuckle at the awards selection!
awards selection?

PP All-State Selction is a JOKE!
Ahmad Bah, John Neufville, Lucas Hoang of Osseo should be included.
All-Tournament team is the All-State IMO.
hey JY why spend time responding to MYSA bigots and those who have drank the MYSA coolaid and try to put down the good efforts of coaches like you. I have seen your work and never allow these cynics to bring you down. they are crazy folks-man. peace bro
Please people quit bitching and get your *ss in the office to make the change and that means you Jerry. BTW, I don't need stinking beer.
You've got to be joking right?
Their defense is horrible and the goalie can't catch balls. They slapped couple of gloves to his hands and said catch the ball kid.
Osseo is Class AA State Champ?
It doesn't sound right as opposed to Apple Valley or Wayzata or Eden Prairie or Armstrong or Jefferson or Stillwater or Woodbury.
BTW, Jefferson team is full of soccer studs and they would have taken the trophy home if it weren't for St. Louis Park beating them in PK's.

11:27 Sorry, I meant the MVPs and outstanding players of the game. Still makes me smile this morning. ;)
Did see lots of college coaches in attendance. Also more people in attendance than I thought.
Gave me an opportunity to see some "big name" players.
"PP All-State Selction is a JOKE!
Ahmad Bah, John Neufville, Lucas Hoang of Osseo should be included.

Actually, the "All-Tournament" team is even worse. The coaches vote at half-time of the big game. Each team is alotted awards in reference to their finishing position--the winner gets 4, etc... Kind of like all-conference: The coach gets a certain number of awards according to the team's rank in conference. The coach then chooses who gets the goodies. Other coaches could give a hoot about who gets all conference on your team.
It is foolish to have the AA vs A in girls soccer, not fair to the A players as AA has an obvious edge in talent. Second year in a row that AA dominates game. they should mix the kids up by position so it is a more balanced game, as long as it is AA v A the AA kids will win and it will be ugly
AHA's Rachel Hoaglin should have been in the PP all state team, sorry, fact. She was MSHSL All State two years running and led the entire state, class A and AA in assists this year with 23 (and had 10 goals). She was also on the all tournament team for the state tourney. No matter how you slice it thats a snub.
I'm sure this will bring anti AHA hate spewing from the rafters, but SHE LED THE ENTIRE STATE IN ASSISTS. common.
7:44
are you saying the individual coaches pick all conference for their respective teams and the other coaches have nothing to do with it ??
is that rachel's dad on the blog? she is a nice player, but not one of the best 11 so did not deserve PP first team all state, sorry. Put her in the lake or sub east or CL and she is a nice player, not a great one
Just all awards are a joke.
Of course I didn't get one...
PP All-State Selection is no more pityful than the Strib.
Osseo SUCKS!
osseo just won state!!!!!!!!!! where have you been??
The process for picking All Conference players vary from conference to conference. Yes, in some conferences, Coaches merely fill out the names they choose from their team on their 'alottment' of All-Conference picks. Some conferences have input and voting from the entire conference set of coaches.
People give up the All State pissing and moaning.... the fact is the system is broke and the old boys have no interest in fixing it....
So what is going on with MTA U18 White Team? Coach let go? MC said he will take team?
How about WDB Eclipse, do they have a new coach this year?
Does EP have enough players at 18 to field a team?
Any info much appreciated.
1:15 how does Lake Conference do it ? How about CL or sub east ?
they pick names out of a hat.
they also ask for parent input.
bribes are excepted.

Anyone know why St.Croix U17 Boys are not on the list for the MN Premier League. They were not relegated by any means, so what's up with that?
Unfortunately that means Rochester gets in, what a pain to drive there (nothing against them personally!).
They are above that league, they went .500 last time
4:10, I'm not sure I get what you mean
maybe midwest league
Yeah, they're playing mrl and will be in the premier division. I'm just wondering why they aren't playing MN Premier at least as a way to keep playing in May/JUne.
Playing college showcases,MRL,State Cup and potentially a regional trip is probably enough.
When Premier league rolls around it tends to be a bit much, too many games squeezed into June.
U 17s will play 2 extra games this season if they all play each other twice.
What happened to Osseo vs Maple Grove in Section 5AA championship game? Who won? I'm MG alumni and checked MG site and it hasn't updated. That game was on 10/14.
http://boys.crimsonsoccer.com/
I say a bad move by SCV 17 they will not win state cup this year and they are not going to be very successful in MRL, look at arsenal last year, they will be in for a long season, and if they have an injury or two they are going to really struggle this season with the schedule they are going to attempt to play
SCV 17s are listed on the MRL site as a U17 Premier team. The will not win a game in MRL. They will not win State Cup...possibly not even make the semi-finals.
953,
would you suggest that they just withdraw from mrl and showcases they applied to, and settle with mysa league?
Is it a terrible idea to play against the best teams and challenge your teams' abilities in ways that mysa can not?
Is it a terrible idea to allow a team to play in front of coaches who could offer them $ for college in such trying economic times?
You make some really foolish comments. Either your jealous for whatever reason or just incredibly dumb.
Ok, I'm confused I admit it.
MTA White
It that the Super duper team
or
the MTA-West/Wings team that was religated?
are you asking about the mta 18 white team anon 132 referred to?
If so, I believe they were referring to the girls team previously know as bangu select.
MTA at both U17 and 18 chose not to field two teams so Blue is the Academy Team. This decision came after tryouts were completed. The whole thing was handled very badly. Bangu's U17 team came back as the blue team at 18 with some minor exceptions. Most of the players coming to the evalutions understood that if they were not on the Bangu roster they were in fact simply trying out for the "white" team. The idea of good training ect... so after the tryouts are done and the money collected the White team goes away.
Very poor form on MTA part......
"are you saying the individual coaches pick all conference for their respective teams and the other coaches have nothing to do with it ??"
Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.
"What happened to Osseo vs Maple Grove in Section 5AA championship game? Who won? I'm MG alumni and checked MG site and it hasn't updated. That game was on 10/14.
http://boys.crimsonsoccer.com/"
MG was winning 1-0 on (lucky) direct kick in first half. With 12 minutes to play, Bah (Osseo) scored a soft bicycle kick from @6 yards. Osseo took the lead 5 minutes later on header inside 6. Game over. Osseo was better team--MG was tired--no subs for 80 minutes of pressure will do that. Weakest MG team in years. Best MG goalie ever.
--Former MG parent, current fan.
Weakest MG team in year? Saw the Osseo game as well as both the games against CP. I think this was the first time MG beat CP. I thought they were a very good defensive team, and played to their strength. No super stars on the field, but a solid team effort. MG goalie was excellent. We would have rather had JW in goal, as we knew how to score on him. I also thought that Osseo scored on two amazing plays. Both teams I thought should be proud of their efforts.
On the whole I think for both the MG & CP scoring was a problem. MG did not have any true strikers and CP strikers were plagued with injuries all season. Osseo was truely the dominate team in the conference, sections and state they had multiple attackers and lots of speed. As I think many here have acknowledge Osseo speed plays well for H.S. soccer. I keep laughing a the person who keeps saying Osseo is no good. The comments are comical!
CP fan
One coach padded the stats for his player so to gain all state.
yeah that's it...all-state is f*cking joke!
So only the MTA Blue U18 team exists?
The former Tsunami Stars?
Bangu Select AND Wings Nationals are defunct?
Can someone clarify?
osseo won you pussy maple grove didnt get out of there section...maybe if they got somewhere you could talk, your just a maple grove kid still whining
U18 club soccer is pretty irrelevant.
With Armstrong now leaving the Classic Lake (being forced out) it will be interesting to see where MSHSL now places the remaining 4 teams. Article on this in the morning Strib.
MG people can't get over the loss. LOL! Get over it MG people. Osseo is way better than you. All yo've got was 10-man bunker defense in the box and couldn't even keep Osseo out last 10 minutes. Move on people.
the clc has been a joke for many years due to it's lack of member schools. scheduling is a pain but the philosophies of at least 3 of the 5 schools makes having an equal playing field almost impossible...
i speculate geographic considerations for placement of the 5 schools would take place initially.
this won't happen until the 2010 school year.
The teams should stay where they are and some lake teams should simply be put into the classic lake. Ep, Chaska, the new Chanhassen school. Makes seven teams in the conference and drops the lake down to 9. It's simple and logical.
12:40 - I agree. How are conferences even created and who decides who goes where? do the schools all team up to form conferences? I don't think MSHSL can move teams out of existing conferences but I would hope they could at least be a catalyst for the lake, clc, new Chan to come together and redefine the conferences.
There will never be a Lake team in the CL. And there will never be a CL in the Lake. The Cl made fools of themselves a few years ago and they are on their own.
Here's what has been discussed.
MTKA and WAYZ....into the NW suburban
Hopkins and Edina into the North Suburban
Armstrong into the Tri Metro
would sections be realigned too after this year if this happens
1128,
How will going 0-7 in MRL premier allow them to test their skills? They will be chasing the ball all over the fiels, so I suppose they will at least be fit. Who is stupid?
No player from the SCV 17s will get money offered for their soccer skills. 2 or 3 are certainly capable of playing division 3, but will not be impact players. They better be good students if they expect any help with college costs.
What I don't understand is why they (Minnetonka, Wayzata, Edina, Hopkins) want to kick Armstrong out of Classic Lake and with that they dissolve their own Classic Lake conference and create more problems in find a home. Why couldn't they pull in other schools like Maple Grove and Osseo into their CL conf?
North Suburban has 11 teams. Lake has 11 as well. NW Sub has 10 teams. Placing 2 each to North Sub and NW Sub will create two largest conference in State of 13 and 12 teams each. They need to keep Classic Lake and pull other schools into it IMO.
It would appear that anom 5 47pm is a little envious of SCV playing MWRL Premier, thats too bad as they earned the right to play there.
I doubt they will go 0 and 7,they are capable of competing.
As for individual players, they have one of the top players around.
Any movement in HS coaching positions around the metro?

Lake conference will be the BEST conference once CL is dissolved.
6:29 they will go 0-7 maybe get a tie, arsenal did the same thing last year and arsenal was no better or no worse than st. croix is, they have two very good players on their team and then a bunch of average to above average players, but nothing special, outside of the two players who have a small shot, they have no one who will get any money to play soccer in college there just isnt very much money out there to be given, they are a good team but are going in way over their heads and they will suffer because of it
1026 Lake already is
Envious? My kids are way past youth and college soccer. Both son and daughter played D1, both received some athletic scholarship. I also have help coach/develop about a dozen and a half scholarshiped division 1 athletes. Not because I am anything special of a fitness, technical or tacticle coach, but because I focused on each player's development as a player and young adult.
I had the chance to watch the SCV team play several times as a spectator and a referee. I have also had the displeasure of watching many groups of stupid parents pushing a team into bad situations. You have a few sets of parents that would stand out even on last years SE team. The negatives that come out of your MRL fiasco will far, far outweight the positives. Not because the competition is too great, but because you have a large group of misguided parents and a coach who isn't quite capable of creating the correct atmosphere for success.
While you might want to think that the negativism on this blog is directed at your kids, it is really directed at your parent group. How did you form your team again? Who allowed you to by-pass MYSA rules?
With the consolidation that has occured at this age group, if you really cared about your top 2 or 3 players, you would encourage them to go play for the best team at the age group, so that they could continue to develop. Who knows, being challenged at every training session, they might make D1 prospects after all. Is it a SCV philosophy to hold back of few, for the betterment of the other team parents?
Go have your fun parents. Feel good about yourselves that your son's are going to play in a very competative league. At the end of the day make sure you make this more about the players, their development as players and their development into young men.
NW Suburban conference is best for 2 years in a row now. Anoka won in '07 and now Osseo in '08. Lake and CL sucking goose eggs.
10 54,you mention "consolidation"
I take it you are an MTA backer,I suppose thats who you think the top team is despite the fact they havnt kicked a ball as a team.
1054-
you, having been through it already, should recognize that soccer is not life...is it possible that all of these scv kids are very good friends and would rather player together, for better or worse, than have to deal with playing with a bunch of prima donnas they don't care for?
4:54,
They had a team last year.
All that changed is the name of the club and a few decent pickups from tryouts.
I think they'll do fine.
5:27,
Prima donnas?
It sounds like you know these kids personally.
Care to elaborate on how you know these boys so well?
Nope, not a fan or hater of MTA. But it appears that you are already looking over you shoulder. Again, a problem with your parent group. More worried about what you can say to people at work about what you son is doing. Why do you care about MTA?
5:27,
I also know 4 or 5 of the SCV parents and the previous poster was right on. You have proved yourself an idiot. How are the MTA kids prima donnas? How do you even know who are the MTA kids? And by saying that maybe the SCV kids want to play with their friends you have shown that you are not a parent of "one of the good kids." Stop living through your sons associated success.
How did your team get formed at C1 anyway. Why don't you respond to this part of previous posts? Are you the MYSA official that made this happen for his own son? Classic!
Classic Lake schools voted Armstrong out because Arm is not competitive in many sports and their enrollment numbers are going to get even lower. The 4 other CLC schools knew the vote would set a process in motion at the MSHSL. The MSHSL can and will force other conferences to admit the CLC schools into those conferences. The MSHSL would prefer, however, that conferences work it out on their own. Keep in mind that football is king in terms of numbers and revenue. Currently the Lake is too big for the football schedule. If the Lake were 2 or 3 teams smaller it would allow for every conference member to play each other in football. Complicating the matter further is the fact that the current CLC teams left the Lake without notice around 20 years ago. This caused some hurt feelings which may still exist. You would think that common sense would take priority over hurt feelings, but maybe not. In addition, EP,Chaska, and Chan are closer to Wayzata than Rosemount and Easview.
Either way, if the conferences won't act on this the MSHSL will.
To add to above post - If EP looks at it's own self interest first it recognizes it's powerful sports programs will be more challenged (and pushed to be better) by the current CLC schools than by the Lake schools in most sports.
Actually the only sport EP dominates in is football and they would have dominated the CLC as well. Competition in the Lake is stronger than the CLC in almost every sport.
Another thing the MSHSL needs to look at is the Missota. Farmington, Prior Lake, and Shakopee will soon outgrow that conference. The only sport the MSHSL considers much in these decisions is Football.
Combine the CLC with the Minneapolis City league. This would be a perfect fit and a benefit to all.
9:43 Your inferiority complex is showing. Check the High School League Challenge Cup standings which rank schools in all sports. Average CLC school score last year was 450. Average Lake school score was 394. The CLC places 3 schools (more than half of conference) in the top ten almost every year. So far this year Wayzata is running away with it - see football, volleyball,CC,soccer.
Volleyball-Lake is the dominant conference has been for years.
Soccer-Lake is also stronger than CLC
Football-Lake is strongest conference in state.
Basketball- Edge to CLC because of Hopkins. Not by much.
Wrestling-Lake is stronger
Lake places at least 4-6 schools in Top 12 every year. Average will be held down because a few schools struggle (Kennedy for example). Same would be true of now defunct CLC if Cooper and SLP hadn't left and will be true again if they try to expand.
LOL at 1144. The Lake had 7 schools in the top 20 last year in challenge cup and has won the award 4 out of the 5 years it has been given. Reality check time. The biggest schools win challenge cup. Lakeville (before split) EP, WYZ etc. Schools like RA,BK,BJ,HPK will continue to decline as open enrollment limits transfers and the cities age.
I heard Lake has a lot of studs but choking big time and can't win State. HAHAHAHAA!!!!
7:58 I agree. Everything you say is true. And the Classic Lake is still easily the toughest conference because the average score of the Classic Lake schools is much higher than the average score of the Lake schools.
Challenge Cup also includes the arts, debate etc. It is not a sports award.
Lake guy. You even have an advantage in the challenge cup since you come out of 3 sections instead of 2.
isnt this entire argument pretty obsolete considering the CLC is going to most likely be joined with the Lake in some way or another, either straight up or split into two different conferences with the teams
CLC people are in denial (and no I am not from Lake). Your conference is no more and was no better than the 3'rd best conference in state anyway. With the end of open enrollment and mature cities it would soon have dropped to fourth.
Who in god's name cares about this CLC business? Are you guys coaches or ADs or . . . what? Unbelievable some of the drivel we get to read here.
zzzzzz who cares. Of more interest is what will happen. One rumor is a return of Lake Blue and Red with current Lake members plus the 5 CLC schools and also the three Missota teams mentioned SHAK, PL, FRMGT. The schools would be grouped geographically with the 5CLC schools joining Chaska, Chanhassen, EP, Shakopee and Prior Lake.
Yeah SCV...STFU!
Lake and Classic Lake SUCKS!!
8:01 you mention suck a lot. Some hidden inferences there .
A lot of right foot only players selected for the Senior Classic.
can we get this thread closed and open one just for idiots to argue about the lake and classic lake conferences?
I'm so sick of these "mine is bigger than yours" arguments
Summer club teams are now practicing. Let's move on to what's new and exciting.
hey do you guys know anything about the MU Jedi im pretty sure theyre a pretty good team winning state cup at 13,14 and not giving up a goal at 14s
wow some of you ppl really need to get a life..especially the ones that love to hate and make uneducated comments about teams and players they barely know..as a player its actually funny how adults can act so foolish over youth soccer, just let us play and relax, in the end its still just a game
I've been away for a few days, it nice to see nothing changed.
EP should be an independent or join the MIAC until they build another school in 2055
Had a parent forward this stations clips to me. I thought it it look like some amazing video coverage. Wish our area Cable did the same thing.
www.twelve.tv/sportsjam
Click on the second video link with a picture of the football player. It about half way into their broadcast. Looks like they got some great shots of both Osseo and Totino Grace games.
OSSEO ROCKS AT CHANNEL 12 TV!!
5:30 - Don't you mean the Lake North and the "B League"?
