'08 Boys State Cup

The MN state cup draw was held this past weekend and the draws are now available at the MYSA web site. There appears to be many interesting groups at many of the age levels. If the weather and fields hold up, it should be a great tournament.

The U16 bracket is the largest on the boy’s side with 16 teams. Can the MUS U14 boys repeat? Will the U16 AFC SE team be able to repeat with a change in club and roster? Or will their arch rivals BNG finally get their chance at Regionals? Will BNG’s dominance at U17 finally be broken by CDA or EDP? Will the U18 age group be dominated by Shattuck? With the U19s be a toss up like recent years?

U15-MUS wins it again

U16-Blackhawks win it with new talent

U17-Wings pulls the upset with new talent and more chemistry

U18-Shattuck dominates, no one has anything close to the talent or chemistry of this team

U19-Bangu, this age group is a joke..

i meant U14-MUS wins it again

Bangu will be tough to beat at U17 with the new talent and the quality coach they have. I heard EP has a new coach to .
i'm going with Champlin or Bangu - Ep is overated

Anonymous said...

Wasn't sure where to put this. Please move if necessary. Head Coach Jim Conlon of Wartburg College resigns and hired as head Women's coach at Wash U.

U14 St Croix team lost the keeper who made them so tough to score on.
That keeper went to Bangu according to my source.
The Bangu U14 team just became much better with that addition.

Anonymous said...

Not to debate the whole SE thing again, but I find it interesting that they are the #1 seed in U16's state cup. Why is that?

Well, because they were state cup finalists last year! Interestingly enough, this is one of the reasons to expand the MYSA premier league.

Wouldn't it be nice if these people could get it together? Just once?

Anonymous said...

I think MYSAs reasoning would be that State Cup, MRL and NL are governed by USYSA rules and guidelines (probably including seeding.) MYSA membership governs the MYSA State League and therefore the membership can create silly rules to punish a few teams and clubs.

While I don't care for club jumping, I do believe MYSA has done an admirable job seperating what the membership can create rules for and what is governed under USYSA, common sense and what is best for players (not clubs.)

The people to thank are Ian Barker, John Curtis and Tom Moriarty and a few others. They were the leaders who helped detach the controlling powers of a few large CCs with angry DOCs and parents.

Again, the winners are the players.

Anonymous said...

I think the DOC has infiltrated this blog as anons...

Anonymous said...

LOL - If that is the case, then maybe they can answer a question...

What is the DOC going to do with those clubs that registered less than 4 teams for 2008?

Anonymous said...

Like who?

Anonymous said...

I am absolutely not part of MYSAs DOC. However, I have had enough run-ins with them, spent way too much time reviewing rules, writing letters and seeing kids punished with their poor decision making. I have been accused by some current and prior MYSA officials as trying to 'tear down' youth soccer in MN.

I was trying to throw of few people a bone, saying that they had done a good thing by removing the ability of the angry and misguided CC membership to inflict more pain on teams and players.

In the old-MYSA ways, they would have allowed the club membership to create rules for MRL and State Cup that stopped SE from participating in NL and MRL and not seeded them because technically the team that won state cup last year does not exist anymore.

Anonymous said...

LOL - After re-reading your post, you sound way too bright to be a DOC member...

Anonymous said...

top ten rules why SE is seeded #1:
10. Tom as going Ir... on the DOC if they would not allow him run his show - new rules would have been created -
9. they are only team in MN being talked about - need new rules to disqualify them
8. the NL director called and pleaded for them to be seeded #1 - there is a new rule
7. they DOC did not want to punish the kids anymore -new rule needed
6. got word that Ian Barker is coming back to take over DOC - no rule needed here
5. they paid off DOC members
4. MYSA did not have time to make up a new rule
3. mike could not use his 'unlimited powers" to create a new rule
2. somebody in MN needs to justify SE top ranking in region with a new rule
1. their favorite CC (PSA) could not field a team so this will be their chance to keep their ranking in state by getting points through GOTsoccer - no rules needed

Bangu U17B ranking (for what it's worth) has increased due to their results vs. ranked opponents in tourneys this winter season. They cracked the top 100 in the nation.

Anonymous said...

Nope. Incompetence.

Anonymous said...

isn't state cup registstration something that would be taken care of by the team manager?

Anonymous said...

Kinda harsh saying the U19B group is a joke. Bangu and Wings combined two of the better boys teams ever from the State. You could argue that only the Blackhawks from the Lagos/Magee/Sannah era had more talent. The St. Croix team from a few years back is probably in the same category as well.

If these players can pull it together quickly, they could have a very interesting Regional tournament. Of course they have to get out of the state first (the St. Croix team from a few years back lost in the U19 state cup final.)

What is WAA?

I don't think either team cares about the result tonight - as long as they are better than the last time they met.

Anonymous said...

mark my words on this...
bangu will crush champlin tonight

Anonymous said...

anon 2:18 your right about Edina U17 takin home the ship but Tonka and Lakeville...lets not get carried away

Anonymous said...

Champlin-0
Bangu-3
champlin only had 11 plays at the scrimmage, 3 of which werent even on the team such as pepe jon(the coach), david sheller(ryan shellers older brother) and some random goalie. they held bangu off until the 2nd half, although bangu was the better team tonight, i think that CDA will benefit off of this loss. As for Bangu, a great team to watch play.

Anonymous said...

I enjoyed tonight's scrime as well. Same Alexander (UW-Milwaukee) was in goal for CDA. Champlin plays with some grit and are fun to watch because they work and work. Bangu are just better technically and very attractive with the ball. CDA can give them a run in the State Cup...this will be closer than people think. Both teams are fun to watch.

Anonymous said...

Some random goalie? Alexander is a stud on a D1 scholarship to UW Milwaukee.
Obviously it's hard to say who is better team if CDA only has 11 players.
Bangu has won 2-3 State Cup titles in a row and are strong again this year...time will tell.

Anonymous said...

ps - Alexander is a walk-on at Milwaukee...just to clarify that pt. Stud might be an exaggeration as well if you saw him last night:)

Anonymous said...

The goalie could have been a stud, but when it is the first time you've played with a bunch of guys there are going to be some communication problems. At that level communication problems result in goals. :)

Anonymous said...

are you serious?? U17s had the number 4 team in the nation in their bracket

Anonymous said...

Shouldn't an "all-star" team comprised of players recruited from all across North America beat these teams made up of players from 1 metro area?

Anonymous said...

Be realistic. They are not necessarily the BEST from all around the North America. They are the ones that they could recruit or could afford it. They are having pretty good success in a competitive tournament.

Anonymous said...

anon 8:25,
Nor is any youth soccer team from any one metro area comprised of the best 18 players from that geography.
But to be able to recruit across the entire USA and Canada with a $35K scholarship as the carrot certainly gives that team a huge advantage over typical club teams.
Let's "be realistic".

Anonymous said...

Just because they recruit does not mean they get everyone they would like. If they did then they would probably have the "best" team. That is realistic. Top 50 in the USA? Probably. Top 25? Maybe

Anonymous said...

Ok, be realistic. Not everyone is on scholarship. My son was offered a 60% scholarship and I believe there was only 1 other player scholarshiped at the same level. He did not end up attending SSM.

Anonymous said...

Argue about SSM somewhere else - Keep this to a State Cup blog...send these dumb arguments to the 'winter tourney news.'

Anonymous said...

its funny how you guys wouldn't put shsttuck in the top 10 in the nation when they consistently win.....

Anonymous said...

I would have to have a player scholarshiped at 50%. what are fees are SSM again? If the fees are say $25K, therefore you were offered close to $13K in financial assistance. If this is true, then we all need those kinds of $$$ to go win games.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, because the entire fee to attend Shattuck goes toward the soccer training they recieve. You people are ridiculous. It isn't like they are paying anyone cash money in thier pockets to play there.

If you think that REAL teams from REAL clubs that are National powers consist of only players that are close enough to drive to practice, you really are much more thick than I suspected.

I guess we could say it is not fair that the Chicago Magic or IMG (whom by the way the U18 SSM boys team played this morning in the U19 division)are all comprised of good natured boys that live directly in either Chicago or Bradenton?

The absolute ignorance of some who post here is absolutely stunning.

SSM-South Campus said...

SSM U18s took down the IMG (Bradenton) U19s this morning in the semi-finals at Dallas Cup.

Outstanding job! Now, naysayers...don't you think that those at the highest levels of soccer (D1 coaches, pro scouts, etc) will now be intrigued as to what is happening in Minnesota as a result? Think that at some point a stream of people looking for talent may be interested in coming to MN to look for players? Maybe your little Jimmy or Johnny are playing that weekend in the SSM dome? Does that then give your little "landon" an opportunity to be seen that he wouldn't have necessarily had before? Or....maybe there will be scouts at MN State Cup watching games that they wouldn't have even THOUGHT about coming to before?

Prime examples of how having SSM in your back-yard can elevate the game in MN.

One other thing I'd like to point out. Bradenton is supposed to have all the best players in residency. One could argue that even if SSM is pulling the best, it would still be second rate to those players IMG could pull in. Now, we have a positive result against IMG. That would tell me that either IMG isn't pulling the right kids OR (as someone said earlier) they ahve inferior coaching. If either of these is true.....then the National Residency program title should transfer immediately to SSM. (PLEASE NOTE THE EXTREME LEVEL OF SARCASM HERE)

Anonymous said...

Just as Brandonton has not elevated the level of soccer in FL so does the exsitence of SSM in MN will not elevate the level of soccer in MN.

SSM can beat brandenton anyday but that still does not mean a MN team beat brandenton. It just happens to be that ssm is in the right pool of competition.
yes, we all want to see good soccer but get real, ssm is not a MN team and has no reason to say they are MN team. we can continue to fool ourselves because it makes us feel good but it is not.

Anonymous said...

Bangu 17 boys in the Final of Jefferson Cup (2nd group)...good luck to both Bangu and SSM

Anonymous said...

Congrats to SSM for tying Bradenton and winning on PKs.
SSM recruits nationally and Bradenton does too. SSM even recruits in Canada.
SSM should be able to compete at this level given their North American recruiting program.
Hope they win the final.

SSM-South Campus said...

Updates to the Dallas Cup website show that there may have been an error previously. I got my results from thier website which showed SSM winning in PKs. It now shows that IMG won in PKs and will take on Dynamo in the finals.

So, it appears that the SSM run in this tournament is over. It was a commendable one though, and should give them a ton of confidence for the season.

mnsoccer said...

from my experience..yes, absoulty..

Anonymous said...

All one needs to do is look at the roster for the SSM teams and realize they aren't a Minnesota team.
Just look at their website and where the players are from.
They are as varied as the locations of the players from the Bradenton Academy teams. They even include players from Canada.
My experience has been that college coaches know these players are from coast to coast and border to border as well as from our neighbor to the north.

mnsoccer - how come you did not say anything to the Super Eagles for their performance at Dallas cup? Did they not do well compared to any MN teams that has been to this tournament the last how many years? Bangu U17 went last years and lost all three games - one game they lost by 7-0? we know it is hard for you to admit success for others - lets face it.

Congrats.

What flight were the Bangu boys in?

Anonymous said...

Elite - which is the 2nd flight. Championship is the top flight won by FC Delco (who defeated the 2007 Elite Flight U16 winner in the Championship). Check out the Jefferson Cup web site for more info...

Anonymous said...

who cares what flight - they won - give them a moment of glory and let's move on

SSM-South Campus said...

I would agree. At a tournament like that, even the second flight is top notch. Congrats to the Bangu boys!

Anonymous said...

I find it very odd the elitism that seems to exsist among some coaches/parents regarding the what tournament flight they are in. I know of some coaches that will not go to tournaments unless their team is accepted into the top flight. Which seems to me kind of counter productive. I mean unless you establish a reputation for yourselves you cannot get into these tournaments, and if you do not enter into any tournaments of quality you don't earn a reputation.

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:57, I think you just hit the nail on the head for why strong teams want to be part of a strong club. Club reputation can help you get into tournaments, and also get you moved up a flight. Of course winning state cup and doing well at regionals will help more than anything.

I can understand why you would not want to travel to a marginal tournament and play in the 2nd or 3rd flight. Why would you pay all that money to play teams at the same level as C1?

Another benefit of play with a strong club, with strong teams at all/most age groups. You have built in scrimmage opponents. As younger players you get to play teams 1 and 2 year older. As you progress to the older age groups, you pay it back by playing the younger team. As a coach I can tell you that sometimes it is good to scrimmage younger teams. You can put things in place like 2-touch the entire game, and see how quickly your players can move the ball.

Anonymous said...

reading SSM South Campus' pompus crooning over SSM's "triumph" over IMG... then watching him backtrack after he realized IMG won the match... PRICELESS.

I guess soccer won out over "academics and soccer" in the end.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Anonymous said...

Yea your right, loosing in a tournament final, as prestigious as the Dallas cup, is an absolute embarrassment. I'm guessing the team and coach are so ashamed that they will probably not show up for their state cup games.

Have some class!

Anonymous said...

Congrats Bangu 17's, a great accomplishment! I hope to make it out a competitive U17B State Cup bracket this year.

Anonymous said...

That team has probably been the most impressive so far this year for the boys. Being competitive in the MWL premier and having a proven winning record in 3 highly competitive tournaments. Let's hope they can continue their successes into the remainder of the MWL season and hopefully into the regionals.

SSM-South Campus said...

I don't understand where "pompous" comes into play in my posting? The only thing which needs changing is the final result of the game. I would still predict that after the showing there are those at the highestt levels who will be watching what is going on. I still predict that you will see scouts showing up to games that may not have shown up before. From the outside looking in....SSM IS a MN team. It will get people looking at what is happening in MN Youth Soccer.

Thanks for your opinion ANON.

Anonymous said...

They jumped from #68 to 12. A minnesota team! yeah

Anonymous said...

Bangu and BHK in Semis for u-15?

What about the other half? Anyone have any predictions?

Anonymous said...

I believe the Bangu 17's beat or tied Vardar and Springield in the Premier division of MWL already this year. Springfield was a Region 2 semi-finalist last year.
Looks like this Bangu team that won State Cup the past few years has improved again.

Anonymous said...

Bangu U17 biggest improvement was made on the sidelines.

Historically, MN does start showing well at about this age group. Bangu obviously is the odds on favorite, but have had squeakers the last two years at State Cup. I would like to see another team step up to the plate, not because I don't think Bangu is good, but I'd sure like to start dispelling the idea that MN can only produce one good team at each age group.

Anonymous said...

Holker is a very good coach but that Bangu team won State Cup the past 2-3 years with other very capable coaches.

But there have been a few VERY strong player additions to this team. 3 or 4 of the new players are starters. I believe 2 of the new guys are the best players from last years Wings U16 team and a regional level player from Mankato?

Can anyone confirm?

Anonymous said...

They added two players from Wings and a talented Blackhawks kid. For how good they are, I hear they are not as deep up top after loosing the Hutton twins to Valley U18. From what I hear, the Hutton twins (or just one of them) guest played with BNG 17's at Jefferson.

It will be interesting to see how they do at State Cup this year.

Anonymous said...

I would think given their result at Jefferson Cup and early MWL premier division results coupled with the addition of 3-4 new starters they should be odds on favorites at State Cup.
But then again that's why they play the games.

Anonymous said...

Agreed. EP and Wings are strong teams, should be interesting to watch.

Anonymous said...

The Bangu U17 Boys scored 9 goals in 4 matches against high level competition at Jefferson Cup.
Sounds like they have plenty of punch again this year.

Anonymous said...

this blog from year to year shows us who the writers are - a group from bangu u17 - becasue last year there was so much talk about bangu U16 and this year we are at it again. does this team have a great defense like last year or now they have a great coach?

Anonymous said...

Which of the U-15B teams did the best recruitment? Can TRSA make it to the finals and pull an upset?

My favorites

Bangu
Blackhawks
Three Rivers
Edina

Anonymous said...

Bangu U-17B at Jefferson cup. Scoring 9 goals in the second division, not very impressive. Why are the Bangu teams playing in second division of top tourneys.

u17B, Jefferson Cup, second flight
u15G, Disney showcase, second flight
U15B, Jefferson Cup, second flight

No wonder these teams get good national rankings and they don't do crap at the regional level against top teams.

tomASS said...

So it's agreed then, Bangu Boys U17 have a very good team, they have improved their coaching and added new, improved talent. They have achieved excellent early season results and should be odds on favorites to win State Cup this year.

Along with that, many get tired of hearing about them, yet many continue to write about them.

Fact remains - State Cup has yet to be played and the results on the field are all that will really matter.

But continue to speculate amongst yourselves

Cheers and good luck to everyone at State Cup.

The Dallas Cup is no better or worse than the Jeff Cup. Just look at the quality of the teams invited to Dallas and they are pretty comparable. The Arsenal SE played a top 25 (Nat) Solars team to a 0-0 draw and lost to a mediocre Rampage CALS team.

Why is Rampage a mediocre team?California could probably field 30 teams capable of winning Mn State Cup.Maybe they are not ranked at the top in S.Cal but that means little, they got to the final of Dallas Cup.

maybe theres a lot of Texas teams cos its held in TEXAS,omg

Anonymous said...

To say Jefferson Cup is equal to the Dallas Cup is just ridiculous..tell me why the #1 team in the nation, #4 team in the nation, and #5/6 team, continually go to the Dallas Cup? I mean if the Jefferson Cup was that 'good' I'm sure they would commit one year to it. But no, they continually, year-in-year-out go to the Dallas Cup...Funny how that works....

Oh, and just to bash Bangu and how bad they really are, they went 0-3 at the Dallas Cup. But again, I guess the Jefferson Cup is just so much better, especially in the 2ND DIVISION!!!

Anonymous said...

arsenalsuperagles, do you klnow who the coach for the bangu team last year was? I guess he is in the top coaches list in MN but he lost a game 7-0 at the MEDIORCRE Dallas cup. how can a top coach lose so bad. do you know if bangu fired him and he is now coaching in a cc?

I seem to remember this team was sooo great last year and this year they are playing in the second bracket...hmmm

Anonymous said...

I guess you can say that the Bangu U17 team and the coach has changed from this year to last, much as the SE team has changed.
How come neither the Nat champ (lastyear) or the runner up (lastyear) were in the Dallas Cup for U17B this year?

Gotsoccer is not an official ranking..
Nationalsoccerranking.com is the accurate ranking.

Anonymous said...

Spoken like a parent from a club with the local NSR expert in their club. Or a club who is still riding on last years performance for their ranking. Even though they don't have the same team anymore.

NSR is not accurate. It is some local "experts" opinion about which teams are better. They will always rank their own club's teams higher. They also can't possibly even see many teams in their area play.

NSR is a joke.
Gotsoccer.com is the accurate ranking.

Anonymous said...

To be honest, all these ranking sites are inaccurate. How can these sites rank teams solely based on results from tournaments and some league results. These sites know NOTHING about a teams make up, and teams can change completely over the course of 3 months (BNG 17's - new coach and only 5 players returning from last years team).

People need to get off these stupid sites, or at least stop believing everything they see.

Anonymous said...

How can gotsoccer.com be an accurate portrayal of how good teams are?

Currently, Bangu is ranked 12th on gotsoccer.com-they won the 2nd division Jefferson Cup, with no nationally ranked teams in it.. Continually in regionals, they get hammered on.. But yet you're saying gotsoccer.com is an accurate portrayal.... WOW....

Just look at the consistency of how well teams who are ranked Top 5 on NSR and then you'll realize your blowing smoke..

Oh and just to dominate you again with my knowledge of these rankings-on NSR there is one who ranks the boys for each state and one who ranks the girls for each state..Then there is a regional boys ranker, and a regional girls ranker, then there is the national boys ranker, and national girls ranker.

Don't tell me gotsoccer.com is an accurate ranking system when they have Shattuck St. Mary's boys U17 as I believe the 8th team in Minnesota.. Nice try bud!

Anonymous said...

My bad on the RealSoCal. I thought they would win it all being national champs and all but they got beat by OK state champs in the semis 4-1.
My point is: there is not a lot of difference in the top ranked tournaments. Congrats to all MN teams accepted into the top flights in top tourneys.

Anonymous said...

In no way was I saying these are accurate... read again.

But wow, you're pretty smart. Hold on to that, if it makes you feel better

Anonymous said...

Please don't dis the SE/SSM in the future, it only brings out a rant from over involved parents.

Anonymous said...

You do realize RealSoCal had three of it's national team players missing, right? Looks like you know a lot. And to say that Tulsa SC is okay..wow you are truly mistaken.. Tulsa SC would rip apart Bangu-at least 5-0...

Anonymous said...

I do know a lot but I have no idea who is missing from some CA or OK or for that matter, MN team. Tulsa may be okay but they are from OK, OK?
OK = Oklahoma, MN = Minnesota, TX - Texas..etc..

Anonymous said...

I believe there is a sacred cow in MN who can't doi wrong. thats is MA/and his coolaid drinking bangu parents. you have the top coaches, our kids future is marred in they are in your club, your have the best development for our future, etc.

please not all parents are drinking the cool aid. thank good we can be a little picky than reading a website?

Anonymous said...

"Oh and just to dominate you again with my knowledge of these rankings-on NSR" I dont know who said that but even if you were kidding thats pretty embarassing, and im pretty sure your the person that said 3 of the national players from realsocal were missing......how in the ******* world would you know that??? get a life

Anonymous said...

To go back to bangu getting "ripped apart" at dallas cup last year...They lost their first game 0-1 to andromeda who you mentioned earlier as being the #4 team in the country. Yes they did lose to Kendall Soccer Club 0-7, but playing a man down for most of the game, Kendall was the winner of that tournament the year before (still stacked with guest players) and not to mention 3 pk goals. And the last game was a 2-3 loss to the Nomads from England. Once again, Bangu played with only ten men due to a red card 5 minutes in. And all the rankings are crap, rankings dont mean anything at all...

oh and superdumbeagle, why dont you hop off your team for one second and give bangu some credit. they are the best club in your state of MN, and you guys dont seem to be performing very well lately...

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know how many starters did Super Eagles lose this year?

Who is the favorite in that age group: Bangu or Super Eagles?

Anonymous said...

Does anyone think the Bangu 15's can get upset this year?

I heard they got a new coach. Do they also have new players?

Anonymous said...

Hey buddy, Kendall didn't win it last year.. But good effort! They got second and lost to the #1 team in Mexico-Tigres.

I don't know where you're getting your facts from, but to me, it seems like your just making stuff up, and exaggerating or embellishing what really happened.

Wake-up and breathe some fresh air, BANGU SUCKS!

Anonymous said...

I think Colin Aswegan, who coached the Bangu U16 last year, is caoching the Bangu U15 boys. That is a pretty stacked team with a lot of players who attend SSM. Don't think they have had a whole lot of time to play together this year as a team.

Anonymous said...

The Bangu U15s are stacked.
As mentioned the only problem is they haven't played together much yet this year.
The scrimmages etc that they've had were without about 4-5 starters.
There are at least 3-4 at SSM.
This is most likely the team to beat at State Cup.

Anonymous said...

Are the SSM kids from MN or out of state?

Anonymous said...

The SSM students on that Bangu U15 team are Minnesota natives.

Anonymous said...

That Bangu team is solid. Unless Bangu picked up new players (did those SSM kids play with them last year?), the Blackhawks team is maybe even more talented in terms of individual players. If they do see each other in the elimination rounds, that should be an excellent match-up.

Anonymous said...

Are those SSM kids new to the team?

Anonymous said...

Anon. 31/3/08 11:10 PM

Actually Kendall did win it the year before, but nice try again. Everyone of those statements are correct, even ask the coach last year to see the games on tape. And bangu sucks?? What club do you/your son play for?? Did you just wake up to? where have you been the last 3 years when Bangu has torn apart the state of MN?!?!?!

Anonymous said...

The Bangu U-15 Blues have seven new players. There is one SSM player, a Mankato native, who is a holdover from last season. They added a lot of speed. One of their new additions is a goalie who is a very special talent.

As a parent at the u16 level I have seen many u16 teams play my sons team at shattuck and I haven't seen one like the 16's from st.croix ....theyhave my vote for state

Anonymous said...

as a parent of the U16 team, I saw st croix also and boy was I wrong. they are the real deal - even though I have no horse in the race. they are solid - I can also vote for them - wow -

Anonymous said...

Agree they know how to play....so can a lot of teams at the age its a very disputed age group nut if I need to pick one it would be st.croix deffinatly most improved from last year at the 16's

Anonymous said...

SCV players above: Go to bed.

8:18, 7 new BNG players? And a new gk? I thought that their gk from last year (the old Wings gk) was superb. This should be interesting. . . . .

Anonymous said...

The 3 most talented U16 Boys teams are in no particular order.
Super Eagles
Blackhawks
Bangu
It's too bad the talent from these 3 teams isn't combined because they could have a real shot at winning regions. As they stand right now whichever one wins State Cup will not have a chance at Region 2 finals.

Anonymous said...

10:21 - How would you do that? Each team contributes 6 players? Who coaches the team? What would the team be called?

Why would any of these teams want to combine with the others?

Anonymous said...

WOW-
Bangu can tear up Minnesota!?!?!?!

That must mean they are a top club, probably the best in the nation.

Face it bro, Bangu is nothing but a dot on a world map for soccer..and I'm good friends with Colin, and oh yeah, he admits to being dominated down in Dallas..so you're not going anywhere bud...

Anonymous said...

If you put the three together you would have "Super Black Goo."

Anonymous said...

anons 3:13 son deffinently got cut from bangu

Anonymous said...

shattuck st mary's sucks so bad. the only reason bangu is good this year is because they have no shattuck players anymore. luke sollie is not good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you, have a wonderful day.

Anonymous said...

Super patrick eagles are not even good.. if patrick was not on that team im almost 100% positive they wouldnt even make it past semis in state...super eagles dad you are a complete joke

Anonymous said...

actually, i think that shattuck is the greatest program in the country!!!!! hands down, if they were in state cup, bangu would never make it out of the state!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I think you kids should have your computer privileges taken away. Dissing kids by name is not cool regardless of whether you agree with the poster or not.

Anonymous said...

Bangu U17 defeats Rockford Raptors 1-0 in Midwest Premier League today.

Anonymous said...

I think alot of people are sleeping on St. Croix and Valley in this age group both did well in their Winter tournaments and have solid teams. To say that those 3 teams have all the best players is a false statement. Both teams will compete will those other 3 teams all year long.

Anonymous said...

Agree with anon 1:08 is completely

Anonymous said...

According to Shattuck website St.Croix beat the U-16 3-1

Anonymous said...

St. Croix U17 or U16?

Anonymous said...

Bangu U17 Boys tied one match 0-0 and won the other 1-0 over the weekend in MWL Premier division.
They've played 4 games in MWL and allowed only 1 goal to date in MWL premier division play.

Anonymous said...

But they've only scored 2.

Anonymous said...

That is a huge problem for them - someone could sneak up and defeat them on PK's if they don't sort this out. They certainly aren't likely to be scored on - at least frequently.

Anonymous said...

Pretty sure it was U16

Anonymous said...

Bangu 17's only "tear up" their own age group in MN. It also happens to be one of the weakest age groups I've ever seen. One very strong team, with a couple above average, and nothing else. There isn't enough talent in that age group to field even one or two teams that can compete/beat Bangu.

I would love to see Bangu 17's play Shattuck 18's. It would finally put these fanatic Bangu kids/parents in their place.

Anonymous said...

Why would you want to see that? They are not the same age, thus cnnot be expected to be at the same level. Clearly SSM would be better in that affair, and they should be. To spite a group of hard working young players simply because they seem to be the only strong group at their age is a bit overzealous. What 'place' would you like them to be in?

It is not this particular Bangu group's fault that the talent in MN is not extremely deep in this birth year. I simply hope they can figure out how to score goals in the MRL Premier League in order to prepare themselves for the Region II Championships. We want all MN teams to do very well at this event, and with the introduction of the Academy, this seems to be a good year to potentially get out of group play (pending a good draw). Three ties will not cut it.

Anonymous said...

I really think this idea that U17 is so weak outside of Bangu is a joke. We have one very good side and several other teams able to compete. How is this different then other age groups? What other groups have anything more than this. Eden Prairie, Champlin and Wings will all win some Midwest League matches against some fairly good teams. Bangu is competing at a level not many teams from Mn ever see. What other age groups are doing more?

Anonymous said...

you guys are all forgetting Edina U17, they have really fallen under the radar. Lead by Sam Lantz and the brick wall Chrisitian Rans...this team will deffinently be capable of putting up a fight with Bangu I guarantee!

Anonymous said...

Edina don't worry about it they are forgetting a whole bunch of things. Like yes, they have won the State Cup the past two years in shootouts. Boy, that's domination for you. However, do not blame Bangu too much; you also have the U16 parent drama queens who love telling the U17 how inferior they are. I don’t know if it an age group with so much talent as much as an age group with s-o-o-o many parents overly involved in their kids playing soccer.

Anonymous said...

You must be joking about the SCV 17 boys 5-5-2 in C1 and you think they will give the Wings and Bangu a game at state cup? I think we could have some really disappointed, over-involved parents from SCV this year.

Anonymous said...

Wow AFC SE takes it on the chin at the first weekend of MRL. Looks like all the SE parents banter didn't help them on the field. Bangu does have a real chance this year at U16 boys state cup.

Anonymous said...

No one has mentioned SCV U-17

Anonymous said...

wow it looks like SE wheels fell off - I luv it!

Anonymous said...

Wings actually have a pretty good team this year. But it looks like they are going to struggle just because of one weakspot:

GOALIE

They let up 10 goals this past weekend in MRL.

Anonymous said...

Wheels fell off? They play in Premier mwrl, most of the teams are very good and southern teams have the advantage over us early in the year. They lost a very good kcfc team, they would probably beat all the Mn. 16s inc. Shattuck.

Anonymous said...

If you dont know the facts dont blog about something. Wings are going to be fine and unless you were at the Wings matches to comment on the results and why, you have to be a moron to single out one position. If you were there then have the balls to bring it up to the people who were.
The down side to that approach is you may get what you deserve for being such a jerk.

Anonymous said...

The last two blogs sound like angry parents the facts are, wings is lacking a goalie and arsenal is not PSA of 2007

Anonymous said...

wings is lacking a goalie!!! I'm sure if you asked any of the field players what was their weakspot- they would say GoaliE...

Anonymous said...

I am a Wings parent and the level of these last blogs is very immature. If you are a player, be responsible for your self and go out and train. If you cant attach a name to your own statements don't use the ability to be anonymous to trash others, grow up. The team has many things to work out but they are a talented group and will do fine.

Anonymous said...

I'm a Bangu parent...not the U16 age group but I am familiar with the SE team.
They have lost a few players but are still a quality side and it wouldn't surprise me if they win State Cup again.
To bash these kids isn't productive and detracts from their accomplishments over the years and their current playing level in the highest level of MWL.
Let's celebrate the success of any Minnesota team when they fare well in MWL or Region 2 play.
Minnesota soccer is improving. Let's keep it going!

Anonymous said...

great post from 9 54am.ASE are the top boys team in the state, applaud them.People should be enjoying watching them not knocking them.I dont think they will beat teams so easily as last year but they are still a very good team, didnt they win last years final against Bngu by 3 0?,I think they beat a team in the semis by 5 0,until proven otherwise they are the team to beat. The other u16 teams are not exactly Dallas Texans! If I am right ASE have lost 1 star player but gained a few really good players, they might actually be a better team now.

Anonymous said...

Actually, the Bangu 17's and Shattuck 18's should be expected to be at the same level. Thing is, about half of the team are 18's, about half 17's, and maybe one or two 16's (not sure about 16's).

The way the Bangu parents come on here praising every single win vs some unranked no-name teams, I would expect them to want a challenge like this.

The 'place' they should be put in is the place where they realize they are not the best thing to ever happen to MN soccer.

Anonymous said...

anon 2:12,
Where has that team stated "they are the best thing to ever happen to MN soccer?"
Relax a little bit and worry about your own team. Why sweat what you can't control?
This U17 team has won the last 2-3 State Cups and will most likely win again (I know anything can happen and they may not) but they have been the class of this age group just as the Super Eagles have been the class of theirs.
Finally, to try and compare a Minnesota club team with Shattuck is laughable when you consider Shattuck recruits nationally and all the boys on the club teams are from just one metro area.
Relax and put it all into the proper perspective.

Good post 2:53

Shattuck U17s dominated the Bangu U17s, so how would you expect Bangu to even compete with the Shattuck U18s?

Anonymous said...

0-0 tie and a 1-0 win for SSM over Bangu in two games is far fetched for 'dominated'

Anonymous said...

That's the point - I don't expect them to compete. I figured it was time for the parents/players to realize this. Shattuck 17's have a lot of 16's on that team, too.

Anonymous said...

How about Eden Prairie dropping CDA 4-2 in U17 MRL action tis weekend...3-0 after the weekend leading the league!

Anonymous said...

ya! go eden praire..!

EP -SHHHHHHHHHHH fly under the radar, focus at the fun to come, the work at hand and it's way too early to be too excited about anything. Nothing has been won at this point. Let your play do the talking, not blog posts. EP could easily be 3-3 after next weekend if they let an early season weekend weigh too heavily on their mind and abilities

You can't come out of the closet when it's never been a secret. It's been public knowledge for anyone who was even remotely interested.
