5/16/12 1:07 PM - calling people a bozo? Umm, you are acting in the same way. Maybe you should take your own advice (chill out) and put it to use. I was not upset at all I was just making a statement. All about how you read in to it.

I agree with your second part, it needs to be enforced, all of it.

1:27 PM -- Yea and I'm just making a statement too. Anyway, the coach should also apologize to the other team. I don't need the apology.

Anonymous said...

No way, MTA 14s are not the best group in MN.

Anonymous said...

5/16/12 2:05 PM - I think your statement can be/could have been made just fine with out calling names.

I do have one question - why should he apologize to the other team? He was not swearing at the field where the game was being played was he? It was at the MYSA tent.

Anonymous said...

Interesting opinion of MTA 14 not being the best group in state..now don't let facts get in the way but after scoring 60 plus goals in the last 2 years and giving up less than 10, winning summer state in 2010 & 2011 with similar roster. I would say its not even close in MN as the 2012 roster is stronger and more technically skilled.

Anonymous said...

Dear 5/16/12 3:14 PM

And you forgot "laid a huge egg" the only time it counted when last year in STATE CUP were eliminated in pool play. Keep dreaming, not best team on state at 14s.

Anonymous said...

sorry I forgot the season ended after state cup..so the best U14 team must be MU (who was soundly defeated in last years state championship game 4-0), MTA (blue team), Burnsville (oh, yes beaten twice last year by MTA ECNL) or NMT (who along with Burnsville is a C-1 team)..

It's really foolish and a waste of time to argue about which team is the "best in the state" or whatever. Many people would consider Barcelona the best team in the world right now and possibly even among the best teams ever, but they didn't even win their own domestic league!

Beyond that, arguing about 14 year old teams is crazy, they've been playing 11v11 for 2, maybe 3 years... things will change quite a bit in the next couple years for each team at u14.

Anonymous said...

Please don't be sad, things will get better for the ECNL 14s, maybe if they enter state cup next year they can make it to the SEMI!

Anonymous said...

U13 Rev Girls are over rated and that team is about ready to blow up. Nels Dokken does not know how to coach the game or motivate his players. I will say this, He is a great skills trainer for the younger kids.

Anonymous said...

Girls U13 Rev are hands down the top team in the state. They have unbelievable talent on this team. I have watched them play several times and I am always amazed. They have a midfield and defense that coaches dream of coaching. If I remember they are called the Riptide. I would say over half of this team will play division 1 soccer in the future.

Anonymous said...

Nels Dokken doesn't know how to coach the game? Really? The current REV u16s, coached by him since they were u11s... Didn't that team win the premier league at u14? State Cup finalists at 15s. Were/are they regionally competitive? He's taken a club that, on his arrival, was a c2/c3 club to a club that's among the best on the girl's side in the state and has a top team at each age that can give a competitive game to any team in the state at their age. You're right though, he's clueless. (I hope everyone can see the sarcasm there). He clearly knows what he's doing and is very good at coaching youth soccer players.

Anonymous said...

3:01 PM -- He used the F-word on the field for ALL to hear.

Anonymous said...

He was swearing at the field where the game was being played. Players on both teams heard him swearing. That's why it's an issue.

Anonymous said...

4:09PM

Assuming you are an adult and your daughter is on the team and that is your opinion say it to his face and maybe the two of you can have a civilized conversation and discuss your differences on what is the best development for a U13 player.

If your daughter is not on the team why worry the beauty as discussed many times on this blog is that everyone has options.

Nels record with REV speaks for itself 6 years ago 280 kids now 900plus and multiple teams at C1 or higher levels in pretty much every age group but 17's on the girls side. Including five premier teams this season the club turned down two of the spots.

If success and what is a good club is only measured by State Cup titles REV must be an awful place to play along with most other clubs in MN.

tomASS said...

Nels D- my experience has been whenever there is criticism of a DOC or a coach it is because the parents have a beef, rarely the player. My daughter had a great time training with him over 16 years ago here in Chaska.

Swearing - no one is saying swearing isn't a bad thing. Emotional mistake, He has apologized....move on. I am sure your children hear equally as bad use of the English language in school. You better not let your children near an EPL game on Fox Soccer Channel. You would be shocked at the conversations you can lip read and sometimes hear between the players, referees, and coaches. Yes, I know this was a youth game, but real life still happens.

Anonymous said...

Tom Ass -- Why don't you move on? The 5:04 response was in response to 3:01. I think even you would agree that there is difference between using the F-word on the field v. the MYSA tent.

tomASS said...

uh?????
where did the tent come from?

oh well not important

Anonymous said...

My kid trained/played with Nels for a season and it was her favorite year from a training/practice perspective. He is a good guy, was the catalyst for the rapid growth and improvement of Rev and most importantly is passionate about coaching.

4:39 - 0-0, 1-0, 1-0 in State Cup pool play does not really back up your "hands down best U13G team in the State" comment. I would stick with "one of the top teams in the State" to retain some credibility.

Anonymous said...

Just my opinion...State Cup is a big deal, but now with ECNL, it has been impacted. Girls CANNOT play in State Cup and ECNL, unless they are Discovery Players, and MTA will not support it. State Cup draws local college coaches. Regional events will draw more national level coaches, but without the top (ECNL) players, I suspect you will see less than last year. That's okay - the majority of girl's soccer players, percentage wise, will not play in college. HOWEVER, there are many good players in MN that are getting some sort of scholarship. For the best of the best who want to play top level soccer at colleges outside the midwest, ECNL is the best option. Two years from now, there might be a new club (Myspace, Facebook, Twitter....what next???). But, for now, for the young girls who are passionate and have the desire to take their game to the next level, and are committed to year around soccer, MTA (as the only ECNL team in the State) is the best option.

5/16/12 5:00 PM and 5/16/12 5:04 PM – were you both there at the game? I heard the swearing at the MYSA tent, but I cannot say yes or no about him swearing at the game, we were not close enough. Either way, he issued an apology. Maybe he is working on apologizing to the other team as well or maybe he apologized to the coach after the game. You don’t know and either do I. But, maybe we can just ask him.

Mr Tilson – would you care to speak up? Did you apologize to the other team like the soccer bloggers want you to?

Since a great many of the posts on this blog are moronic, fortunately we have a facilitator to remove the inappropriate posts. What fascinates me half the time is trying to figure out the angle the poster of some of these messages comes from. I particularly find the above "Nels Dokken" thread amusing. I am trying to determine if it just the same anonymous multiple times responding to themselves. Almost sounds like an adult pretending to be a kid.

Anonymous said...

U13 MTA girls have been trying to beat Nels D. Riptide team for the last few years now. They have yet to accomplish this. Even though they carry a roster of 36 pool play girls and try and try to put a team together every time they play Riptide that will beat them. I believe Nels runs with a roster of 16 very skilled and very aggressive athletes. This team will rise to any challenge that is brought their way. I have a daughter who has played against this team and they are good. GOOD LUCK MTA with this group of girls you will need it. Pick your line up wisely. The mids and the defense is a force to be reckoned with.

Anonymous said...

We played the Riptide Rev team in the semi finals last year in State Cup. They played up last year and they are good. We ended up winning in overtime on a lucky but great shot. My team is still talking about these girls. We have great respect for this team. Good Luck from Centennial soccer U14 girls.

One quick question - did the now U13 REV team play up in just state cup or did they play up in league as well?

Anonymous said...

Both last year

Anonymous said...

I think we can all agree the 13 final will be a good one to watch. Both teams have some of the states best athletes at the age (top basketball & hockey players). In the long run the" soccer first "players will most likely come together as the demands of primary sport increase at older ages......

Where have you been 10:25? The MTA attacks never died down from years past. MTA sucked then and it sucks today.

Anonymous said...

Did the now U13 rev team earn a premier spot last year? Are they playing up in league this year?

Anonymous said...

MTA does not suck.. They put out very good teams. They definitely do not suck. No U13 did not make a premiere spot. The south was by far the toughest league last year. The MTA U13 girls did make premiere last year they played in the East league. And we all know it was the weakest of all the leagues. I know a few U11 teams that could of won premiere last year in the East.

State Cup focus please. Take the club and district chat over to the Club thread. Thank you.

Anonymous said...

I love it. Many on this blog feel it's ok for the coach to swear on the field. I'm not sure whether they draw the line at any specific age group. Is it ok to swear on a public blog? I think it's clear that this blog administator has zero tolerance, including removing the blank spelling of the F-ing word on an earlier post this morning.

tomASS said...

MNF - I'm ADDDDDDD it's just much easier to post to the top thread that is viewed the most.

Ok Ok Ok no worries

State Cup - there will be winners and there will be losers. The parents of the winners will think the victory their own. The parents of the losers will feel shame and a reflection of poor refereeing, weather conditions, coaches' strategies etc
and they will bicker here with a few taking the high road and enjoy the competition for what it is worth.

It's always so fun to read first year U13's project into the possible future of what is in store for them.

Anonymous said...

tomASS - I agree, the blog reaches its annual absurd (jump the shark) point each year when the u13 state cup reaches its fever pitch. Through in the coach's name, the fact its REV and some over the top 'future D1 predictions' and you have a doozy!

Anonymous said...

Agree TomArse, A3D as well. Let the blog be free to roam MNF. Been some good discussions that get vaporized and the remnants have little in the way of intellect following your daily pruning.

What can really be said about state cuP other than my DD will crush your dd's team. Especially for the week+ in between games.

MNF said...

It seems that with more topics being discussed in a thread, the nastier posts become. Posts are created to refute parts of numerous prior posts. The free for all seems to make posters crazy. I'd be happy to talk with volunteers who have interest in reviewing content for a specific thread and acting as editor in chief. Of course you will have to take an official moniker. Email me with interest.

Anonymous said...

No, the posts are getting nastier as we near State Cup games that mean anything. Enough State Cup...what in the world is up with EDP?

Anonymous said...

I am afraid to write anything it will probably just get removed.LOL

Anonymous said...

Who is EDP??

tomASS said...

Electronic Data Processing ....they're not at State Cup this year either.

Tomass,

They may not be competing against my dd's team this weekend but I still despise EDP. I was a paper shuffler moving files from here to there and back again until EDP came along and ruined everything! "where's my stapler, somebody took my stapler."

I am going with all of the above except the players. My daughter is focused on a sleep over tonight and getting out of a family birthday party tomorrow night so she can hang out with her friends. Sunday, when she plays, is like a year from now with two other soccer events and lot's of friend time before she even thinks about it. Win or lose on Sunday she will be on to something else before the car gets in the garage late Sunday afternoon. Think she picked up the A3D from me :-)

She has friends on the team she will compete against on Sunday and knows quite of few on the teams in the other bracket as well. To her this is fun and, while she wants to win, she will be cheering for her friends in the final to do well if she does win this weekend.

What soccer should be!

MTA 17 in finals. MTA 16 and 18 done.
13 and 14 still have a chance today.
Looks like 15's were canceled last night due to rain and they play today. It's looking like the over- hyped MTA 15's won't even make semi's.

Anonymous said...

Aren't the top MTA U15's playing in ECNL?
Is their 2nd team the over-hyped team?

Anonymous said...

Happy MDMD (Mow Down MTA Day)

Anonymous said...

MTA 13's struggled to stay in the game today against their 2nd team.. And they think they have a chance against U13 Rev. Maybe the wind will be on their side that day. They better hope anyways.

Anonymous said...

What happen to the Burnsville U17 team that was going to win it all with the best player in the state?

Anonymous said...

5:38- you are an idiot. In your logic rev struggled and got lucky in all 3 games in pool play. You frame yourself as one who knows nothing about soccer and has little going on between the ears. Arguably the two most talented teams are in the final at 13. Should be a good game congrats to the winners today.

Anonymous said...

Poor SSM they just cannot see anything to the end. Do they even have a team next year??

Anonymous said...

No one struggled to stay in the game. 15-20 mile per hour wind. The down wind team had 5 or more corners respectively in each half. The team that won had more scoring chances and converted one of them. Guessing you did not like Chelsea winning the champions league yesterday as the team with more talent should always win and win big in the soccer world you live in.

Anonymous said...

5:52 Why so negative? It was an incredibly close game. Either team could have won. That's soccer, sports for that matter. Do you even know both the teams? If you really did, you wouldn't make the immature, ignorant, negative statement you did.

Anonymous said...

I am 5:52. 7:01 I do not understand what you mean by imature, ignorant, and negative. I said nothing negative. The game was close, the wind made it a bit uncontrolled, and the team with the most chances came out on top which does not always happen. I know the group and was at the game

Someone wrote "MDMTA day" for state cup. Sucks that they still have 3 teams in the finals and these are supposed to be their second teams. Not saying much for the other programs in the state. Huh?

Anonymous said...

MDMTA was supposed to mean "mow down mta day". LOL

Anonymous said...

The u13 final, as most years, will be intense. To the winner may go the spoils of talent movement at the end of the year.

Expect loud sidelines and not necessarily from the fans as both coaches, for good or bad, like to direct the players on the field a bit more than I would like to see.

May not make the trek to watch it but I am sure I will hear both sides in a completely unbiased fashion post game.

Anonymous said...

"What happen to the Burnsville U17 team that was going to win it all with the best player in the state?"

She tore her ACL and was unable to participate. Feel better now you fool?!?!

Anonymous said...

As a parent who's kid has also had a major knee injury, I wish your child well and encourage you to ingnore the depreciators out there. The docs can fix them better than God himself made them originally, so keep the faith and encourage your daughter to take her PT with the best attitude.

I saw a stat that over 40% of USYS's top girls soccer atheletes encounter a significant knee injury at some point in their career, so hopefully our coaches, trainers and therapists are focusing on reducing this percentage.

Anonymous said...

Maybe im being optimistic given the blatently rude commentary on this blog but given the way the question was written, 5:52 could have been seriously inquiring about what happened to the team and player....

I saw the play stop on that field but others could have easily missed it and be wondering how the team got beat given they we're likely finalists. I'm not sure the poster is out there wishing evil on all the young athletes of MN, just probably an unknowing or poorly timed comment.

Anonymous said...

She got injured a month ago

Anonymous said...

Who on here read the comment and DIDN"T think it was a "shot"?

Anonymous said...

If it was an unknowing comment then they aren't what they claimed, ie., "I know the group and was at the game"

Anonymous said...

Wouldn't you expect more out of SSM? I mean, $30k a year and all you do is eat sleep and play soccer for several hours every day from September til May. Then to lose to little SCV. What up with dat?

Anonymous said...

Or the person could have been there and missed the injury (you know how something always happens when you go get coffee or to the bathroom)...

Or they could have been there but were talking abt this other kid that was apparently injured a 'month ago' etc etc etc....

Or they could have been taking a shot at the team but you do not know and if they were, they don't matter...

This blog has become about making a mountain out of a mole hill, about assuming, gossiping and whining. I hope the apples far farther from the tree or your kids high schools are probably black holes of negativity to go to every day :(

Can we talk about state cup games now?

Anonymous said...

U13 will be a good game. Good luck to all the semi finalist and finalist. Whoever wins at each age group, we hope you represent MN well at regional’s.

MTA U15 parent.

Anonymous said...

MTA U15 parent. What happened to your team? Talk about total collapse! Why pay all that money and you don't even make the semi's! You barely beat a below average C1 team and you tied an average C1 team. Sounds like there's a coaching issue?

Anonymous said...

Come on people, stop the negative comments. Cheer for your team. Be proud of their accomplishments. Don't gloat.

Anonymous said...

I am the 5:52 that replied and now realize there are (2) 5:52 posts. Mine was in relation to the MTA 13 game not the Burnsville game.....riddle solved

Anonymous said...

The 15 MTA team is a good group if every club and team was judged by state cup we would not have many options left by June on what is a good team or club. Why let one tournament and in many times one game decide if a team/club is good or bad or had a good season or not.

Anonymous said...

5/21/12 8:18 AM - Umm, I am a U15 ECNL parent, number 1. Now, let's talk about the team you belong to. Maybe bring them up and we can critique your team and your coach and how well your team played - or your kids team.

Last I checked, no one on this blog, except for MTA put down the price of how much it would cost to play for their club.

Either way, maybe they choked, maybe players got hurt, no excuses, but the class was there to say good luck to the other teams to represent MN. They are still a decent team that has won some good games this year so far.

Have a great day!

Anonymous said...

I love how 9:55am added "I am a U15 ECNL parent, number 1."

That statement right there says it all and how the blue "2nd team" is perceived at MTA.

Although, they were nice comments but they were talking down to their "number 2" team.

Anonymous said...

Who will coach rev 13s next year?

Anonymous said...

Nels Dokken should be the coach. Look at what he has done with that team. They are the top team in Mn why change what's not broken. Unless Mia Freaking Hamn is free, Otherwise they should keep Dokken... I can not get over how well his team handles that ball. The only place he struggles is on top. But his mids and def make up for that.. Great team and fun to watch. Good luck to both the teams in the final.

Anonymous said...

Me thinks he will not be asked back next season.

He is a good coach and good trainer.

Anonymous said...

I believe it is good to get a coaching change every few years. But either way he is a good coach.Good luck to that team. I have one word to say about that team."WOW"

Anonymous said...

Isn't he the DOC? Wouldn't he decide when it is time for a coaching change?

Anonymous said...

He is not the DOC anymore. He was replaced earlier this year by Tobbe Thorsell.

Anonymous said...

11:41 -

Both teams in the U13 final handle the ball well against most MN competitors as they have a second more than they need on the ball at least. It will be a fun game to watch as they will put one another under intense pressure on the ball. I would not expect to see a graceful game out of either team. Moments of good ball movement forward surrounded by lots of athletic firepower on 50/50s, tackles, and runs by both sides.

Anonymous said...

5/21/12 10:17 AM – I love how you tried to stir the pot, but not going to work. No one was talking down to anyone. Most clubs have C1 and C2 teams. Does that mean that C1 talks down to C2, just because one person says they are on the C1 team?

It is all about how you read in to it. No one was talking down to anyone.

Anonymous said...

REV does not have a true DOC. They have Director of Soccer Operations and Player Development but these guys do not get to make DOC decisions such as which coach will coach what team. Parents decide at REV who they want coaching their team.

The head guys only do camps, clinics, tryouts, and winter training. They don't make decisions on coaching.

Anonymous said...

Nels was not replaced by Tobbe they work together but focus on different things and they have done so since the two joined REV 6-7 years ago.

Anonymous said...

12:52,

They only focus on their own teams. Lets face it, they don't do much else.

Anonymous said...

From REV website

Tobbe is responsible for business and administrative-related decisions on team formations, assignment of coaches, and overseeing club programs.

Nels is responsible for training, staffing and scheduling, program curriculum, player evaluations and monitoring of player development.

Anonymous said...

1:00,

Everyone who is involved at REV knows that they do not assign coaches. Parents decide who they want and who they don't want.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like Tobbe is the man in charge . Looks like Nels reports to Tobbe.

Anonymous said...

12:58, there's a reason Dakota REV is now seen as a much better club now than it was 6-7 years ago and Nels and Tobbe are a huge part of that reason, to suggest they don't do much else is unfair and completely untrue.

Anonymous said...

Tobbe might think he is in charge. The board and parents run that club.

Anonymous said...

5-21 1:00 You beat me to it. I was going to the web site to get the facts also. Nels does appear to report to Tobbe.

On a side note: did you notice how many board members REV has. Wow, 15 board members seems like alot to me. 4 directors who are directed by 15 Board members

Anonymous said...

1:04,1:06,1:07,

Neither one are really even qualified. What coaching licenses do these guys have?

MTA DOC, PSA DOC, EDI DOC, WAY DOC, SCV DOC, TCF DOC, and many more all of 'A' licenses.

Case closed. Now back to State Cup!

Anonymous said...

Job descriptions......What should be on the website:

Nels - Coaches and trains

Tobbe - Coaches and deals with the parents because Nels hates that side of youth soccer. I am sure Tobbe does not like it either but he his logical, firm, and does not lose sleep over dealing with parents.

Anonymous said...

1:12,

Spot on! All the other real decisions are made by board members and parents on each team.

That is why they have 15 board members.

Anonymous said...

And their is not one board member who knows anything about soccer.

Anonymous said...

1:12, yet REV is successful enough for it to be discussed at length on this board. Clearly they're doing something right. With all due respect to the clubs mentioned, no one is really talking about them. Your suggestion that they're unqualified is like telling a successful business owner he's unqualified to run his business because he doesn't have a business degree. There are different routes/paths.

Anonymous said...

5/21/12 1:18,

Very true!

Anonymous said...

Its like having soccer dads as DOC's. They may have played soccer, but aren't really qualified or have the training to lead a premier club.

Anonymous said...

1:24,

They, along with a couple others have built a "premier" club (by Minnesota standards). I think that speaks for itself.

Anonymous said...

Here is my Vote for MN Top Girls Clubs:

1. MTA
2. Dakota REV
3. St. Croix
4. SSM
5. PSA

Anonymous said...

Rev has created a nice club, has some good competitive teams and reached the masses in Rosemount, Apple Valley, & Eagan. Their Premier (I'll include the 13's here because they should be able to earn a premier spot for next year) teams certainly recruit & attract outside of their home area though. How do you think Apple Valley & Eagan feel about losing athletes to them, not to mention Lakeville, Farmington, Prior Lake (esp at 13 age group). These communities state cup teams would be much stronger with the athletes from their communities.

Anonymous said...

1:41

You just paid Rev the biggest complement of all by lumping them in with the "MTA is bad for taking the Community club top talent" negativity. Good for Rev!

If a Rev loses a player or two off the 13 team to MTA's ECNL team next year your like minded counterpart at Rev will be writing the same post in about 3 months......

I will stop here as I get deleted when I type the words "consolidation" and "good" in the same post :-).

17 EP is going to reverse their 1-4 group play loss to MTA in the Championship game? It certainly could happen but not sure I would predict it.

Anonymous said...

2:55,

Back up to your "rev wins by 2 goals" would be appreciated.

The Rev team did not win a pool game by more than 1 goal and beat MUs 12s playing up to 13 by 1 goal to nil in league as well?

They are a very talented group no question and some of their 1 goal victories are probably more lopsided than the score sheet would indicate. However, no one would say they are an offensively dangerous team when playing against competition that holds defensive shape well. They do not pull decent defenses out of shape with varying off the ball movement from what I have seen of them. One on the ball, one to the far post, one to the center of the goal, one to the top of the box, and a support pass option or two.....and the same positions to the same respective spots each time down.

Top Girls Clubs:

1. MTA
2. SCV
3. REV
(Shattuck isn't a club.)

Top overall clubs (include boys)
1. MTA
2. SCV
3. PSA

As for the community club concept, you simply can't keep good players out of your club if you want to be great. Why? Because you can't keep good players IN, either. If you prevent good players from entering and making your teams top-notch because you want to protect your community boundaries, you will most likely lose your top players, who WANT to play with the very best, and if they can't play with the very best in their community club, they'll go where they can.

Sure, you may have a team or two in a true community club that stays together and reaches greatness, but entire clubs? No way.

the nice thing is for the most part the finals seem to end up with very few 'surprises'. i would say u17 was probably the biggest surprise with burnsville and wayzata both getting knocked out (not that they were superb teams, but most people didnt predict EP/MTA final). 13s looks like a good final, 16s should be very good, 14s has 2 premier teams and was kind of wide open age group anyway, 15s you could be heading towards PL/MUS which would be good as well. So you could have multiple teams from EP (16-17), REV (13-16), MTA (13-14-17), MUS (14-15) thats pretty strong. Arguably those teams had strong backups that just didnt get it in. Let's hope for good weather and good soccer

The REV (or any other club talk) reaches the high point at State Cu each year (this board is CLEARLY dominated by REV 'fans'). It is a compliment to them how far they have come, perhaps this is the year they actually win at State Cup. That said, once you reach the top, the expectations can either push you higher or knock you down. Hopefully for REV they don't outgrow themselves as they try to be both a highly competitive club and a community club.

Anonymous said...

classic line from 5/21/12 @4:21 PM......perhaps this is the year they actually win at State Cup.....
maybe with ECNL teams not competing this could be their year!

Three quick points regarding the MTA U13s versus the Dakota REV 13s:

1) I would invite you to look at the two teams in the State Cup FInal and U14. MTA 14s and MUS 14s. THe MTA uU13 team has beat one of them and tied the other in Premiere league play in the last two weeks. How has your U13 REV team done against them? From where I stand the MTA team is not afraid to be challenged by bigger and stronger teams in order to develop their younger players for the next level, and to play beyond our four walls in MN.

2) The MTA U13s have not had a goal scored on them at State Cup, their defense rarely gets rattled and continues to improve with each game. REV?

3) You will rarely see a post from the U13 MTA parents like the ones above because most of them have the "bigger picture" in mind for their daughters. This doesn't make them better just a different forcus than the REV. They want competition in the State and hope for a close final that develops their girls for the harder route next year against Toro, Carmel, Eclipse and Vardar. Would they love to win the State Cup, of course? But talk to a U13 MTA parent and most will tell you their daughter is developing, having fun and preparing for the next level. In fact, a few of your parents have been asking those questions to MTA parents already.

One last note, take a look at the Region, when was the last time a Dakota Rev girls player was chosen to represent our region as a top player or pulled up to a National Camp? While that is not the only measure of a club it is an indication that the club is preparing their players for another level outside of the state of MN. Just something to think about as you watch what should be a superb match against Rev and MTA 13s. Good luck to both teams who will surely play good soccer on Saturday.

5:11 If you take a look at Got Soccer who has more national points and is rated in the country. As for Eclipse Rev went and beat Carmel, Texans and went to the semi finals in the Eclipse tournament. Trust me we are ready for the big picture. Evidently your coaches think so also or they would not be contacting Rev players. Maybe the girls that are on the team just are not cutting it. Good luck!

Anonymous said...

Great point 5:32!

Anonymous said...

Not many other age groups act like the 13's and it is the same every year, guess u13 must be a big development year for youth soccer parents.

I promise win or lose the players on both teams will move on within an hour of the game.

The coaches involved coach for the love of the game you as parents shall watch the game for the same reason and if you don't like the game watch it because you love your child. Wish them luck and tell them to enjoy the experience.

You forgot the u18 final alot of good soccer players on those two teams. Probably 15 D1 kids on the field when the game starts. With St Croix being the favorite.

Anonymous said...

St Croix should win hands down. With noU18 MTA Ecnl team they should walk thru the final.

Anonymous said...

5:32 - OK, I have to chime in as a unbias observer. Please tell me you did not just reference. "Got Soccer"! Let's see, you shop the tournaments with the most points and then enter your team in it along with a few State Cup points and call that quality rankings? Is that what you are telling your REV players and parents? Even my U13 C2 daughter had a laugh your reference, she knows better. Yes, you did make it to the semi finals in the Eclipse tournament, my friend I hope you do not truly believe the U12 team you met a year ago was the same team you would see at Pre ECNL at this point? Again, if that was your level of play you would have surely beat MPBL, EDP by much more that a tie and a goal at State Cup. If you are currently at the same level of play as Carmel, i'm sure at least two to three of your girls will be identified at the regional and national level this fall , or did I miss that on "Got Soccer"rankings as well? I guess the big picture looks a little smaller now.

Anonymous said...

Evidently Rev has made quite a impact in the soccer world. They really have MTA fired up or should I say worried. Although Got Soccer is not the best it is all the soccer world has to go by. So sit back and enjoy it.

Anonymous said...

Yes "Got Soccer" is one of the only ways to find good tournaments and competition around the country. Say what you will about it, But you will not see top clubs coming up to the Blaine Breakout or USA Cup. They seek out top rated tournaments and teams. And Just for girls is not one of them hahaha.

Anonymous said...

5:32 Keep telling your C2 player that it does not matter thats why she is still playing at that level. I know it hurts when your team is not mentioned in it.

Anonymous said...

The U13 battle is heating up between REV and MTA. Can't wait! I'm going with the MTA team as they are a bit deeper, but since they only beat the second team 1-0, it could be the other way around. And yes, the REV U13 team beat many top level teams last year. MTA almight parent above thinks they are looking at the "big picture." LOL. MTA is spelled ATM!!!!

By the way, most people I spoke with said U14 MTA team should've won the game against the U13's hands down. Off night for the 14's. Also, MU is missing their star player. Not taking anything away from MTA U13 because they are good, but to say they are so above winning state cup is a freaking joke and shows the arrogance of some of these parents at MTA.

Anonymous said...

I love how MTA is alway looking at "big picture" and nobody else is! THAT DEFINES PARENTS AT MTA! They act like they are just warming up for ECNL when in reality they can't even beat many MRL teams, but love to say they pay 10k to play in ECNL. 14 MTA is like -29 in goals against in ECNL. WHAT IS THE FREAKING POINT? Status? Get a life.

Anonymous said...

7:25 take a look at USA cup puma elite for u16 looks like pretty good teams to me

Anonymous said...

MTA still rules!

By the numbers, State Cup Semi's by club (excluding 19s):

MTA 12
SCV 6
MUS 5
PSA, DKT 4 each
BVL, EDP, NSS, SSM, SPU, TNK 2 each
BLA, EDI, NMT, PRL, VLY, WYZ 1 each

Anonymous said...

Girls finalists.
13 DKT MTE
14 MTA MUS
15 NSS TNK PRL MUS
16 DKT EDP
17 MTE EDP
18 SCV DKT
19 EDP 1 TEAM

Anonymous said...

And thats without the MTA ECNL teams, I believe that is the definition of "ruling".... Like it or not, that's kind of simple math.

Anonymous said...

If we consolidate the best players at one club they will win.
Players win games.

Anonymous said...

That is also simple, players win games. Clearly my out of shape butt does not win games so I am glad to give credit where credit is due.

Anonymous said...

Than do a better job of attracting them.

Anonymous said...

Me or MTA?

Anonymous said...

And clearly there is some consolidation (maybe not perfect but clearly present) that has happened or the MTA wouldnt be so dominant in the playoff rounds with its 2nd teams??

Anonymous said...

They have two teams (13's is there top team) on the girls side that are their second teams in the finals and the 14 team may be better than the ECNL team.

On the boy side they do not lose as many players since they have 4 age groups making up two teams.

It is harder and will continue to be harder for clubs to dominate multiple age groups since more and more clubs are doing a better job keeping and developing players.

Mikki Denney out at MN!!

??????!!!!!!

Rumor has it she resigned to spend more time with her young children.

Anonymous said...

Not a rumor. It's official. She has resigned,

Anonymous said...

How about Mark Abboud for the next U of M coach?

Anonymous said...

If true, good choice for Mikki. She was awesome during my daughter's recruiting visits, as was KK. JR was the show stopper and didn't know how to interact with players/parents (my opinion, as well as others). Keep KK, get rid of JR, and bring in MA, and my kid would consider staying in state.

Anonymous said...

Would agree with the above post, MA is wasted sitting out on the sidelines.

Anonymous said...

Seriously?

Anonymous said...

Give Mark Cook the job!

Anonymous said...

If MTA had ECNL and DAP players at state cup they would win 11 or 12 of the 14 regional slots. 18 boys would go to SSM, 16 boys would be a toss up and only 1 other slot would go to anyone else...probably SCV.

Anonymous said...

Hey yes, great idea. Mark Abboud for the MN job.. The team passed up on major names in Basketball and football because of some alleged bad decisions. So lets go get the most controversial coach in MN who has been "convicted" By MYSA/USYSA of throwing state cup games. I am 100% sure MA's name would last exactly 1 second on a list before being removed by the MN focus group.

Anonymous said...

Abboud would throw the game if some one payed him enough. Mark Cook?? LOL Thats funny...

Anonymous said...

Ah, I should have known bringing up MA would wake up the morons. The post that matters the most, however, is the parent who said their daughter may stay home and attend the U. That is the voice of reason that should be considered. And I seriously being convicted by MYSA carries much weight. Not a very well respected group.

I was never a big fan of MDW, but I wish her well. Maybe whoever they bring in can turn things around and improve their recruiting.

Anonymous said...

Why not give the UofM job to the best MN coach. MA has put MN soccer on the map. Thanks to his efforts and vision MN soccer is not viewed by other states in Region 2 as a joke anymore. Yes, even the sour/bitter people must admit, MA represented MN well and brought respect to the soccer of our state. Get it done Maturi!

Ah, I should have known MDW resigning would wake up the MA morons. Does this sound positive?

Dan Storlien for UM coach

Anonymous said...

"Would agree with the above post, MA is wasted sitting out on the sidelines."

He isn't exactly sitting on the sidelines. I'm pretty sure he is doing what he wants to do right now. Why have a full time club coaching job that doesn't pay very well when you can run your own business and coach high school? He also makes guest appearances with MTA's U13 team. I would think there is probably better candidates out there for a U of M job though. He hasn't exactly tore the cover off of the high school league.

Anonymous said...

Storlien is an a hole. Decent coach, but an a hole.

Anonymous said...

8:28 AM -- you are the joke! MA represented MN well and brought respect? By cheating? If he is the best we have, soccer in MN is hurting.

Anonymous said...

Agree 9:01. U of M needs to find a better candidate. MA does not have the qualifications to lead a Big Ten program.

Anonymous said...

Please stop the negative comments and calling names. This is the state cup thread anyway.

Coaching u12- u13 girls and a few year of high school soccer -- Wow, very impressive coaching credentials.

Anonymous said...

I posted this question in the Girls Club tourney and news but did not get a lot of feed back. Now, let's post this question here.

In your opinion, who is the best soccer coach in the state of MN?

Anonymous said...

MDS wanted more time with her family, that is totally understandable and the MN Athletic dept understands her reasons for a reduced role in MN soccer. Word is, however, that she is looking to stay involved in MN soccer at the club level. The rumor is that she is looking for a strong young girls team with one of the bigger clubs in MN. She has been involved in club soccer prior to her Major college coaching career and is very familiar with the MN club layout. Look for her to resurface coaching a U14-U16 team with a solid track record by next season. Rumor is she wants a team that is already good with talent and commitment that she can work with to take to the next level.
Who knows if these rumors are true ? Time will tell.

@859 on 5/23

LOL! funny some would say the same thing about Anson Dorrance

Anonymous said...

I talked to Mikki today and I assure you she is not looking to coach the club level... She laughed when I brought it up.

I thought that a few years ago TP from Wayzata was interested in the U job but they wanted a female coach.
