Blue got the better end of that deal?!YEA RIGHT! You lost a National Team Player BUDDY! haha. You can act like you do not need her but wait until you play Wayzata or Eden Prairie next year.
Now Bangu is struggling with keeping the best player in the club! That says a lot about the program they are running over there.
Seems like a no brainer for OS to move up an age group and go to the best team in the state at the older age group. This hardly means the MTA ship is sinking or in your words struggling. Tough to see her leave the club but the development/playing option is a great one for her.
How did she get to be that good to be invited to play up an age level on the best team in the state? She is an amazing talent but she didn't develop her skills completely on her own on some far off planet...or in the bossom of a community club.
We all know OS will play in college. Doesn't it make sense to play with older kids? imagine her entering college in a few years having to go against 21-22 year olds and never having gotten hiot by a player 2-3 years older. For a player of this caliber it makes sense.
P.S. The one time i saw her play a year up, she phtsically struggled. She needs this challenge, will she handle it?
OS leaving is not the end of the MTA Blue team, she is a good player but you could compare her to Randy Moss "she played when she wanted to play" and most of the time she put no effort in at all. She can change a game at any moment but you spend a lot of time waiting for that to happen. She is going to need a big attitude adjustment if she is going to continue on the Natl. team and those coaches know that.
typical Bangu/MTA response from a player that leaves their club - what a bunch of immature individuals. You are still talking about a child here. Some of the adults need to grow up and shut up.
As always we see what happens when people brag about their favorite player on a blog. On one side you have a person or two overstating the talents of a player, on the other you have a person or two overly diminishing them. You should all stop it.
10:50- Please tell me ONE single 2010 player who is being actively recruited by a D1 college coach. If you can find that, I will be able to point you to a team who will be suffering serious NCAA sanctions.
The 2010 players won't be actively recruited until NEXT August 1. Sure, some are recieving packets and being asked to complete soccer questionairres.....we have. But nothing more than that, unless someone is breaking the rules.
I didn't say that our girls were complete novices or beginners...only that currently the goal is to FURTHER develop them to make them the best players they can be.
please help me understand.....if the 2010 players can't be recruited until 9/1/09, then that would mean the 2009 players would not be recruited until 9/1/08 (less than three weeks away). If so, how can just about every big time 2009 player and over two dozen 2010 players already be verbally committed? take a peak at this from bigsoccer.com:
It all has to do with who contacts who. They can't call you, but there's nothing that's stopping the athlete from contacting them. And if you take a visit on your own to their campus, all bets are off.
3:22, actually SSMSC is right, almost...After July 1 of Junior year..for incoming 2010 freshmen, that would be July 1, 09...NCAA Bylaw 13.1.1.1, page 81 if you have the book...
You are CRAZY! Bangu, Tsunami, MTA or what ever you are calling yourselves these days, won't win state cup next year. Lets face it, their run is OVER! Its time that another team steps in.
After Bangu loses the State Cup 09 in U-16 girls. ALL of your top players will want to leave. Probably because you do not provide the best options for the best players no longer.
Woodbury Inferno is a year older and would beat any of the 16's by 5 or more goals without even pushing. Actually, no 16 team would even get inside Woodbury's box.
So Bangu is not the best option for the 17's age group for girls- State Champs Woodbury Inferno
Bangu is not the best option for 17boys- I believe St. Croix won that age group.
They are also not the best option in 16's boys. Edina took care of that.
18 boys- SSM
15 boys- MU JEDI
Slowly Bangu, i mean MTA (So funny by the way) will lose to PSA in the 14 boys and EP in the 16 girls.
What do you have to say about that Bangu Coaches? You are not only losing your bubble players to other clubs but now you are losing your top players (National Team).
10:16 & 11:00, i'm not a MTA coach, but there are 14 state cup championships and you named 5 non-MTA teams. I bet they probably still like their numbers. i also think MTA would rather talk about the ones they've won. most folks tend to prefer facts versus bluster.
OS is a quality player and a class act who has taken what she feels is her best option. Who could fault a player for this? Isn't it our role as parents to support the kids and wish the best for them regardless of whether or not we agree with them? The G-U16 MTA team will be great, so will EP and Wayzata.
Look at the number of ODP kids these clubs put out there this year. These are quality clubs with quality coaches and quality players. They are bringing out the best in Minnesota.
MTA will lose to PSA U14 boys? It might happen. But PSA is not a U14 team. They have at least three kids on that team who are much older than U14, unless they play U13 for the third straight year. It is totally disgusting.
SSMSC, Yes 2010's have already verballed to some big time D1 programs already. Check out BS.com on the Womens College site, 2009 Recruit thread. Someone in your own backyard (MF) just got back last MONTH from a visit down in Texas. Goes to show you, your spending too much time on that other site..LOL And there isnt any rules being broken. Just depends on who contacts who is all. All within the rules.
I am positive I posted this before, but can't find it now. I would like to admit that I typed prior to thinking. I was thinking of the 2011 class....not the 2010s when I was typing. The reason for this is that the context surrounded the SSM U16s and development. There is NOT A SINGLE 2010 that will take the field for the SSM U16s this year. There are some who would qualify as U16, but once a junior at SSM-- you are moved up to the older team. Just the way it is.
MF just came back from a visit in Texas, huh? I guess that Coach Daryl is doing something right? ;)
I can say that we have received soccer questionairres from 6 D1 schools (Big Ten, Big Twelve, and MVC), a couple of NAIA and Div 2, and all but about 2 of the D3 schools in Iowa. In conversation with my daughter's former team mates still in Iowa-- only one has been asked to complete these for anyone. Not braggin on my kid-- but rather the program. These coaches are (in thier words) confident that SSM is preparing these kids athletically, academically, and teaching responsibility that will make them successful in college. I will adamantly say that all but *maybe* 2 of these requests would NOT have come to my kid if she were not at SSM.
SSMSC haven't you been paying attention to other threads? Inferno is the best team MN has ever produced! They could beat the state cup champion at U18, and the U16 champs "would not get into their box" Their 1-7-4 record at regionals and 5-0 and 2-0 losses to the WDM team at regionals are absolute flukes.
SSMSC I would agree that playing at SSM provides exposure to colleges but not any more than any major club such as Eclipse, Hawks, FC Milwaukee or even Bangu. My daughter also has received many of these same questionnaires (same age) probably due to her playing for Bangu. I will agree that SSM provides a better serious soccer option than any club that currently exists in Iowa.
Fargo Soccer Club Wins US Soccer Federation Grievance North Dakota, Minnesota and 3 Local Clubs Found In Violation of Multiple Bylaws
Fargo, ND, August 14. The Fargo Soccer Club (FSC) – www.fargosoccer.org – has prevailed in its discrimination and interplay grievance against the North Dakota Youth Soccer Association (NDYSA) and the Minnesota YSA (MYSA). In its ruling, the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) – www.ussoccer.com - pointed to the actions of the Red River Soccer Club (RRSC), West Fargo Soccer Club (WFSC), the Moorhead Youth Soccer Club (MYSC) and both NDYSA and MYSA in making its determination.
In its decision, the USSF ruled that the local Fargo-Moorhead West Fargo Soccer League (FMWFSL) must open its Fall 2008 league to the kids and teams of the FSC and not try to impinge their playing opportunities by creating any ‘arbitrary or unreasonable policies, rules, regulations and requirements’. FSC President Matt Noah, “We will immediately register our multiple kindergarten teams in this local league so that they can play with and against their neighbors and friends in friendly competition.”
In its decision, the USSF ruled that the MYSA violated USSF bylaws on discrimination by not allowing the FSC to join or participate in the MYSA northwest league that includes teams such as Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Alexandria and possibly Moorhead. FSC President Matt Noah, “Playing in this league allows us to keep costs significantly lower than other local traveling teams who do not currently play in leagues. The USSF ruled correctly since Wisconsin teams play in eastern Minnesota leagues.”
The basis for the grievance was the exclusionary actions of RRSC from early 2007 which culminated in the filing of the grievance by the FSC in April 2008. Unable to convince any of the local clubs, NDYSA or MYSA that they were in violation of USSF bylaws, rules and policies, the FSC filed the grievance.
The FSC is a member of the Soccer Association for Youth (SAY) – www.saysoccer.com, US Club Soccer - www.usclubsoccer.com - and the USSF. It fielded 2 competitive teams in Summer 2008 and 16 pre-school teams in Spring 2008. For Fall 2009, it will field 3-4 competitive teams at the U9, U10, U11 and U13 age levels as well as approximately 16 recreational teams at the pre-school and kindergarten levels. It may offer recreational soccer this Fall at first through eighth grade levels.
The ruling immediately becomes a nationwide precedent, benefiting youth soccer players, teams and clubs across America.
The USSF Ruling may be found in the Documents section of this website.
SSM will not win at U18s and the U15 Jedi won't get to the semis at state cup next year. Jedi already lost 2 or 3 top players to other teams. They were 3rd place in league which about where their talent stacks up. The did play gutsy, but were lucky at state cup.
Fair question about EDP. They won a tough west district. They lost in state cup to strong BNG and BHK teams, as well as a totally fraudulent CDA team that had some kid far older than U13. In the state tourney they lost to BNG again, as well as a toss-up pretty strong SCV team. I would think they were probably the 3rd or 4th best team in the state based on all that. Whether that's good enough for MRL is an open question. (I can't give any regard to PSA because they had at least three clearly over-age players on that team.)
15/8/08 7;59 A.M. YES and the five losses trying to play up in U17 Premier league were also flukes, but hear some of the players state they dont care about those games anyway. Great environment to wade into some of which cares over to high school season. Attitudes are reflective of underlying issues with team and some of players and coach. Playing when the lights are bright isnt going to continue to fully develop those players. Some college coaches in for rude surprise like current and past fired big ten coaches have been with highly touted players from mn. clubs that have been unduly promoted by their coaches and clubs
3:56 - Eden Prairie Girls - what did the U13 team do to get them into the Midwest League? They weren't even on anyone's radar as being competitive in this age group. Don't see them even being entered in State Cup, didn't make it to the State tournament, didn't play at NSC....now they are going to play in the Midwest league?
Any team can apply to the MRL. If not a enough "good" teams apply, then, even mediocre teams can get in. Check this past Spring results, ie., Bangu Blue 16's and Bangu White 17's. Did they belong?
How come Cottage Grove is having tryouts of U15 boys at the premier level when the last I looked there best team was playing at the C1 level? Anybody have the scoop?
I thought Dakota and the Wings got promoted to premier after the U14 season.
Not very involved on the boys side but I think if Thunder plays Midwest and choose not to play P league than Cottage Grove woudl be next in line, since two teams got relegated.
Not very involved on the boys side but I think if Thunder plays Midwest and choose not to play P league than Cottage Grove woudl be next in line, since two teams got relegated.
The league are now set for the MYSA fall season, I know some teams choose to not play the MYSA fall season but the 12 and 13 age groups look pretty complete, at least on the girls side.
any predictions? I am bored with the bitter rehash on the merits or downfall of the Bangu/MTA system.
Whose the best girls 12 and 13 year old teams? sorry boys too many top players lost to American Football in the fall to get an accurate read on next springs teams.
U12 Top 5 teams playing Fall league 1) Wayzata 2) Cottage Grove 3) Eden Prairie 4) Centennial 5) Minneapolis United
Top 5 Teams including teams not playing Fall 1) MTA Bangu Blue 2) Prior Lake 3) Wayzata 4) Cottage Grove 5) Eden Praire
U13 Top 5 Teams playing Fall League 1) Cottage Grove 2) Burnsville Fire 3) WBL 4) Eden Prairie 5) Eac Claire Top 5 including teams not playing league 1) MTA Blue 2) MTA White 3) Dakota Rev 4) Cottage Grove 5) Burnsville
Most coaches use fall season to work out issues, try new formations and introduce players to new systems and tactics. A ranking discussion about fall league is pointless. The results are meaningless.
Remember the discussion about how the U12 DKT Rev girls were going to take over the U13 age group? Or the Bangu South or Bangu East U12 were going to do the same thing. A lot of hot air on what teams were going to do, didn't happen. Fall season results are very meaningless to what will happen next spring/summer.
didn't the bangu east u12's win state cup playing up at u13? i agree with fall not meaning much, but i would hardly call that feat meaningless. (the next posting will be how they did not do well playing up in premier....the countdown.......3----2----1.....
7:18 I agree parents have a tendancy to get over enthusiastic about their kids teams. I disagree that fall results are meaningless. The fall helps the team come together and allows the team to work on stratagies outside. Dome/gym training is great for footskills but typically can fall short on the tactical side of the game. The fall season, especially at U-13 when the team is usually adding players due to the teams moving from an 8v8 game to the 11v11 game, is very valuable if that team is planning on playing State Cup which of course is very early in the spring season and as was seen last year can be surrounded with poor weather which often limits full field experience even more.
I also believe that winning is contagious and a successful fall season helps keep a team motivated through the winter months.
Clearly the spring season is the real season, but success in the fall can be a huge benefit to the teams who take it seriously.
On a side note two of the three teams you mentioned at U-12 had very strong seasons last year, Bangu East won State Cup and finished second in the East and the Rev team finished second in the south. The Bangu South team struggled a little.
11:56 Funny the only MTA team at U-13 is playing in the West. Could this be the "Surprise" team ? The combination of the Bangu girls and the Ex Wings players must be the anticipated surprise.
BTW, how did the teams end up filling out for the new MTA teams that will play spring season in the different leagues ? I hear they lost alot of kids in the south and west is their any truth to that rumor? Also heard many were shopping in the east. St Croix was indicating prior to team placements that they were getting an influx of players from the east Bangu teams, any truth to that?
North metro lost atleast one very good player to Thunder u13. The U13blue and white teams are not playing MYSA and they are still in a pool.
REV U13 should be okay this fall and so will EP wonder how Edina and Cottage Grove will handle the transition do they have enough talent for the move to the larger field?
I disagree. While neither may be the top team out there, I think they both merit mention.
North Metro is a skilled team deeper than one player but I guess will have to see if they have the depth necessary for 11 v 11. While Tonka had two upper middle of the pack teams this summer it certainly shows they should have the depth for the move to 11 v 11.
Again probably neither are the top team out there but they are worthy of mention as a top teams. I guess we'll see what the results on the field show.
I think that at U12-U13 any game is up for grabs. I mean, if there is a new shipment of Webkinz or Barbies....the starting line-up may not even make it to games!
I agree if Tonka chooses to , or I guess has chosen to consolodate the talent they have at the U-13 age group they should be able to put together a quality team. Anyone familiar with how they set up the teams for summer? Are they playing the summer rosters together this fall?
Truth is at this age group the best team isn't playing MYSA's fall season. The MTA Blue east team(old Bangu blue East) deserves the right to be called the best with a strong season at 13C1 last year following a State Cup championship.
BTW I have no idea if North Metro was able to hold it's team together or if they added enough talent to move to the 11v11 game effectively but I agree based on their past results they should be mentioned.
We saw both Tonka teams the last two years. Neither team itself was top to bottom, but they each had some solid and fast, skilled players. Put them together they could be good, very good. Tonka's U-13's this past year could have won the State Cup and did make Premier and are playing in the fall Midwest League. Though they have been down for several years, Tonka has new leadership and has gotten agressive in their coaching recruiting and training. They have put out some very good players over the years and still are, though they have mostly moved on at older ages. This could be a club to watch if they find a good replacement for John tudor when he retires.
Wow, some folks out there really give MTA parents a bad name. For the record, I know some MTA parents and not ALL of them are complete jerks.
If I remember right, the original argument made by Bangu for joining MRL was development, not just to rack up wins.
Let these teams develop. They are certainly getting better competition than they would in any mysa Fall league (no premier league in the fall, remember). So let them develop.
What's the worst thing that could happen? They get an idea of what they need to do over the winter so that they are more ready for state cup? Isn't that the point?
The first experience with traveling and playing out-state competition can be difficult, with everything that goes along with travel being new to a team. That coupled with a higher level of competition often results with most teams taking their lumps early. Those teams then tend to adjust and improve. That being said those improved results may not come until next year. As a fan and proponent of competitive soccer I commend then for taking on the challenge.
"Failure is only the opportunity to begin again, this time more wisely."
REV Could have been 15 but coach took it easy and played all players in different positions after 10 minutes. With that said know idea how good or bad Eagan is. The REV team will get tested and JFG and hopefully they play Thunder at the NSC CUP that could be a very good game maybe the best of the fall season.
5:05 be careful. If you know of something I would tell you to make the player and parent of that player aware of the rule. Love MTA or Hate MTA lets not ruin some kids high school opportunity because they were ignorant to a MN State High School league rule.
5:14: Doesn't it make sense to you that if a coach at ANY club has a HS player practicing with their team right now that the coach would tell the player to go home? Or, maybe the coach doesn't know about the player playing in HS. No, a coach should know about their players. Worse yet, maybe the coach doesn't care. If this is going on, that coach is merely selfish, as is the club for wantiong training revenue so badly that they would jeopardize a kid's eligibility. SAD, if true.
Since I am a rules geek....can someone please point me to the rule for MSHSL which discusses the alleged broken rule above?
In the soccer Rules and Policies, it does point you to MSHSL By-Law 411 for details. However, all that by-law says is that a Member School (taken as the entire team) cannot participate in non-league sanctioned activities. I can't find anywhere where it says that the individual athletes are not allowed to train on thier own?
The rule may be there, I just can't find it. Can someone help me on this?
Rule 14A of Athletic Eligibility Brochure: During the high school season a student may not participate as a member of a team or as an individual competitor in non-school sponsored games, meets, tournaments or contests, in the same sport. Participation defined: practice, training, tryouts, scrimmaging and competing. Season defined: the high school season shall run from the first date that practice may begin until the team is eliminated in MSHSL tournament competition. Baseball, Softball and Skiing are exceptions to this rule. *special consideration is given to national or ODP team participation.
Thank you 10:25. I really do appreciate your contribution. I am a serious freak when it comes to rules. I have to see a rule that is claimed to have been broken. That one is pretty iron-clad! If what was said is true, someone could get into a lot of trouble.
My guess is Edina and Rev will have their eyes opened after a very soft fall league schedule. Both will struggle to compete against out of state competition. Maplebrook will suffer from no recent game experience unless they have been training very regularly.
You guys don't actually think that Just For Girls is a "high level" tournament, do you?
You won't even see the best that lowly Iowa has to offer in that tournament. It USED to have a very strong competitive field, but not so much over the last three + years.
Just checked the JFG schedule for the u-13 bracket and checked with GOTSOCCER.COM for team rankings both statewide and nationwide.
I agree the Iowa teams are not the cream of the crop but it looks like the KS,NEB and MO teams are all respectable teams.
KS- #3 locally and 54 nationally and defending State Cup champion. and #5 locally.
MO- #3 locally and #69 nationally.
NEB- #1 and #2 rated teams in Neb.
The competition at this tournament will certainly be stronger than the MYSA fall league. At these ages there really are no other options for league play and this is one of the best,if not the best tournament in the region for fall.
1015 SSM, What tournaments do the best of the "Lowly Iowa" teams play in? We've seen some top teams from Kansas and Nebraska over the last two years. I looked at this years teams and it looks like the top clubs from those states are sending their 2nd teams down to compete. With that being said Edina will fair better than Maplebrook and Dak Rev (if this is there 2nd team) will get beat handily. IMHO
2:35 JFG shows the team called "Rampage" as the team attending JFG from Dak Rev . I think this is their Top U-13 team. If so I would think they should be competitive.
Also it looks like KS MO and Neb are sending some top teams (if the earlier post 11:40 is correct)
10:47- Both SSM teams (U16 and U18 girls) only played one game, due to the torrential rain. U16s lost to a pretty good NSA Premier team 2-0. Not a terrible showing against a regional top 20 after 8 days of practice? U18s won easily against a Bloomfield Force squad. Can't remember the score, but too many to too little. Should have been much worse.
11:40- Just as an exercise to prove how great a ranking site is, please check to see the opponents that River City Flames (to use your example) have beaten to gain thier ranking on that site. Do you see any Michigan Gators, Eclipse, Vaardar, etc? Nope. Not saying it is a bad team, but definately not a Regional powerhouse.
I do second the wishes for good luck to all the MN teams. I hope you bring back hardware.
2:35- To be honest with you, the better Iowa teams all play in thier own tournaments. Now, I have not seen the brackets- and may have to eat my words here but you won't see Ankeny teams in this tournament. It is because the clubs don't play well together and clubs don't want to give money to other clubs.
Look, I am not trying to slight anyone...but don't think of JFG as something to hold over someone's head if you are a champion. Good accomplishment, but hardly a Regional level tournament. That being said, Des Moines is a nice distance to travel with the youngers for some experience against non-familiar teams.
SSM, Not to pick oin you but why is it ok for your team to lose to a "regional top 20 team" but tp paraphrase your comments that the ratings are not credible. Btw I agree they are not credible but really other than head to head competition what is? It is a guide to tell others that this team plays in alot of tournaments and has had at least some level of success in those tournaments. Thats all it is.
Ankeny SC in Iowa is the LAST club my child would play for. SSMSC, why even bring that club up by name. They have ugly kits, the coaches all lie, and they bad mouth and run and tattle tale about you know what. That enviorment is a complete joke.
And contray, ASC is not one of the 2 best clubs in Des Moines, let lone Iowa. WDMSC and JUSC are.
When mine was U14, she played in JFG and they had a supergroup, Eclipse, FCMil, Bangu, Hawks, KCFC, Carmel, CRSA, they were all there. CRSA even won the championship that year. I agree, at the younger ages, there are some good competition. At the younger ages. So are you calling for U11-14s to travel 3 states out to play then?? Im just curious is all?? I think at those ages your insane to travel 2 states out.
Yea, I know first have about ASC. A coach was caught double dipping. That is theft if you ask me. Good luck to you and your player, hope you get EVERYTHING that they are promising you!!
7:42- Fair question. My main gripe was not so much with ranking sites in general (although especially at younger ages where there is not much cross-region head to head), but more with the GotSoccer rankings. IF I were to use rankings to identify the possible strength of a team....GotSoccer is the last one I would look at.
The rankings, however, at U15 and above even on GotSoccer are somewhat more believable due to cross-region head to head which takes place at those ages (MRL play, USYS Regionals, and so on).
10:02- I hear you, but at the younger age groups the higher quality teams are still at ASC. Sure, WDM has some quality teams. I know that two of the top 3 Iowa U12 teams are out of ASC. That may change soon, all I am saying is that not even the best teams in Iowa attend JFG on a consistent basis. This all changed after Nate left the Menace. A lot has changed since yours was a U14 (I assume to know who you are). My kid came from ASC (via the Menace Academy) and is now at SSM. I know about ASC also. There are problems, but there are problems everywhere. Show me a perfect Iowa club and I'll send a registration check to them for my U12.
You jsut proved my point SSMSC...ASC has good teams at U11/12, but WHAT happens to these SAME teams/players at U15, 16, 17?? MMMMM? The current leadership has been there for many years now, and its the same thing over and over and over again.
I am proud to say that I am a supporter - cheerleader if you will but my legs are way to ugly - of my childs team. Madison here we come. And notice I have not degraded or ripped any other club or team with this post.
for u13, the die is cast for next spring state cup as dakota rev vs. bangu (u13) or bangu (u13) vs bangu (u12). the other teams (EP, Cottage Grove, Edina, burnsville, North metro, etc) with fight for the other 3 or 4 premier spots as the season goes on.
SSM U16s tied Michigan Rush Nike 0-0 on Saturday, and lost 2-1 to the COlumbus Crew Jrs on Sunday. My kid suffered a pretty serious concussion in Sunday's game which bought her an ambulance ride to the hospital. We won't know anything further for a day or two.....
Tough games, good competition. Frustrating as MI Rush is a much better team than the other two we have played....Jeckyl and Hyde.
Congrats to the MN U-littles who had success at JFG. Always nice to bring home results.
12:59 - No, that's EP that will be beating your MTA team. I'm not sure why you were ever afraid that a bunch of u15s and u14s would beat your u16 team. Low confidence?
12:59- Hold your tongue. Who knows what will happen during the MRL season, especially 3 games in.
I am not sure you have read anything that I have written in this thread at all. I don't think that at any time did I say that the SSM U16s were a lock for anything. As a matter of fact, I remember saying that I would not make any predictions regarding the outcomes of State Cup. I DID give you some sample results to let you know where they stood last year. The team will get better as time goes on, they have now had less than a dozen practices together-- cut them some slack. No matter what anyone tries to say, I would venture a guess that even the MRL First Division Teams would finish within the top third of MYSA Premier League especially at the current U16 level.
It is what it is. I find it interesting that anyone from MTA would be coming after ME or the SSM group.....when have I dissed you? I have even stuck up for MTA many times. Leave me and the SSM program out of your diatribes, I don't think the MTA types can do without ANY non-haters, can they?
At the conclusion of the ODP District Select fall training, are there any comments about the quality of the program thus far, before player evaluations?
All of the contenders in the west play one another, weather looks good, should be fun.
South district U-13 C1 girls has the top two contenders playing one another on Sunday. Cottage Grove vs Dakota Rev. That game should decide the Champ of the south. Eau Claire plays North Metro and WBL this weekend which will have a big influence on the top team in the East.
The U-13 C1 girls outlook for this fall will look much clearer after the weekend.
Someone posted here awhile ago that Tonka would be tough. Did they combine there two teams? Anyone know. Are they that good to tie Eden Prairie and beat Edina?
No one is "that bad" this time of year. By next summer you can speculate on these teams, way, way too early to do that now other than those who want to do some unfounded bragging.
for certain the teams that 'played up' as u13 last season have a huge head start (dakota rev, MTAx2) and dominate in the fall on all fronts (DR only 2-1 over Cottage Grove is a surprise although they probably dominated possession). the gap will narrow by the end of next summer but the 3 best teams will still be dr, and MTAx2 (or 3). as much as I disrespect the tactics to get there, DR and MTA have put together fairly solid teams for MN standards. i posted earlier that the rest of the state will fight for the other premier league spots depending on where the MTA teams place themselves
i agree that until state cup, no one really knows. i still contend the group is much stronger than the previous u13 group (now u14)
MTA x 3 is the fact that I think there are 3 MTA teams at u13 that can compete for the cup (MA's true u12 team, the u13 state cup champs last year and some combination of everyone else)
"tactics" are that each of them use deceptive recruiting tactics for players and families and frankly one leaves feeling like you need a shower afterwards. the fact they played up u12 was a great move and the player training seem great. obviously at least 2 of the teams here are the 'crown jewels' of the club and get attention and resources from the big boys in their respective organizations (every good club has a showcase team or 2 which is fine)
they deserve credit for putting solid competitive teams on the field and at least in one case having quality, positive parents on the sidelines. we'll see how they progress and I would bet the farm the winner of State Cup will be either DR or MTA
just for fun any predictions for how the P leagues will play out at the different age groups next year. Atleast by now most teams rosters must be finalized. By tradition new teams have a hard time will it be the same this year? How does last years champions look will they repeat? Any news on some teams that where middle of the pack last year that may have added or lost a bunch of players?
10:07 Way to go out on a limb with your 14 and 17 predictions. Pick 4 of 6 and I like your chance to find a winner :)
BTW I think Tonka takes U-14 ahead of Burnsville. I think Burnsville is good but has built their team on strength ahead of skill and they will not be able to push around the talent of the Premier level teams like they were able to do as a C1 team last year.
Didn't tonka U14 lose to Burnsville in the state tournament? 2-0 according to the MYSA website. Heard they also added some quality players to their team. Tonka do that as well? What about the MTA blue team? Are they not playing premier?
Are all the teams listed on the MYSA site all committed to MN Premier in 2009 (mainly some of the older teams)? For some reason I thought a few of them were going to focus more on MRL.
The general thinking is that game days could be better used for training (where teams really do get better) and that the training:game ratio should be much higher on the training side. Also, of the MN premier 10 games that each team plays, for the top teams, there might be tops 4 games that are truly challenges (in my honest opinion).
I've heard MTA will become a part of the USSF Academy program in the near future and the USSF strongly recommends a higher training to game ratio than many Minnesota teams currently employ. This would make sense then to skip MYSA premier league and train more during the week and play in a few selected high level tournaments to meet the USSF ratio.
Maybe they would have if they had achieved another premier spot at U13 for U14. The Wings team was the only one that earned a spot and that team is now the MTA white with a few roster changes. The U13s that played U14 got dropped from their spot so they couldn't play U15 premier. I think they probably could have used the challenge, they didn't live up to the hype last year.
If you count how many practices a team has in the winter the training to game ratio is fairly high in MN. If you practice three times a week November - April why not let the kids enjoy games in May and June when most premier games are played.
Most higher level teams are also in out of state tournaments, friendlies, etc... so they do seem to get in an appropriate amount of games. May is also State Cup month which compounds matters.
I know of many parents who would prefer to have their child play MN Premier vs MRL as it gives them many more opportunities to watch them play and I have no problem with that thinking. In the bigger schemes of life that's probably very sound thinking.
3:21, Players would all rather play more games, thats not surprising. But do they know more about development than the heads of USSF? My hunch is USSF knows more about player development than youth players.
Don't know does not appear that USA have developed many top international players on the mens side.
The problem is the travelling and as a result many teams have to play 2-4 games in two days. Pretty sure USSF would prefer teams playing 2 games a week vs 4 on a weekend.
anon 9:19, You're right. USSF wants their Academy teams to play only 2 games per weekend and train more frequently during the week increasing the training to game ratio. People come on this blog and whine about the lack of quality coaches in Minnesota yet now the staff from USSF gets challenged on the training/game ratio philosophy? C'mon folks, you can't have it both ways.
My argument was that playing games close to home will provide an opportunity for 1-2 games a week and three practices a week and also the chance to practice between games vs playing a bunch of games in a row on weekends.
Think that if all MN teams agreed to play MYSA as well as MRL(if they want to play MRL) it will help to raise the overall standard of MN soccer the MYSA Premier league should start when state cup is over and play in July instead of being done late June or early July.
11:01 - I understand your viewpoint but what you are asking is for the top 1-2 teams in each age group to sacrifice their personal team development to play many games against weaker competition for the sake of raising the overall standard of MN soccer. There are some teams at different age groups whose only tough in-state game is the State Cup finals (and maybe the semi's). Very altruistic, but not sure if reasonable.
But there are some age groups where they would probably benefit playing in the premier league at their own age level because they were run over playing a year up and didn't fare so well out of state either.
There may be a few teams like the Stars or this years u18 MTA team that would not benefit from playing premier league no reason U15 white should not play it it or U14 Blue not sure about U16 Blue.
If teams are good enough to play up and get competition that way great. The more good teams we have that choose to play MYSA the better.
to 11:51 get over it they earned the spot they tried to keep it. How could they know before the season that they would get relegated?
To 11:51 last ears 13's was one team they earned the spot they accepted it and where in most of the games as far as I know. but because the choose to play up they can not play P league at their own age grouop this year since they not play U13 C1 last year.
What makes things even more complicated is what happens to the next best teams in MN Premier when the top 1-2 age group teams opt out for MRL. Slots 5 & 6 are filled by the top C1 teams which weakens the overall caliber of the competition. As an example, on the girls side if U16 Blue and EP both play only MRL next year, then does a team like Wayzata stick around?
they automatically relegate the bottom team as well as (i believe this is the case) any other team that does not win at least 25% of their potential points. if the top two leave and the bottom one gets relegated, then for the new year you now have at least half of the league being comprised by teams that were C1 the previous year.
Anyone read the letter from NSC? Looks like NSC and MYSA can not figure out how to avoid a conflict between state and USA cup, how hard could it really be?

Didnt know there were any Natl TEAM players on your team??
ROFLMAO at all of these posts. Are you people serious?
1:55 She will no doubt learn about playing hard from CS of the Inferno. CS doesn't know how to "take a play off."
typical Bangu/MTA response from a player that leaves their club - what a bunch of immature individuals. You are still talking about a child here. Some of the adults need to grow up and shut up.
With a 1-8-3 record over 4 years at regions there must be several players on that team that need that lesson.
I can't tell if I am smelling Hai Karate or testosterone. Either way, would someone please open a window?
What is the proper spelling for vicarious?
Lets be real. OS doesn't have an attitude. If anyone has an attitude problem its ES & MC from Bangu.
Trying to down play the fact that they lost the best player in their club. You Bangu coaches posting on here are all a bunch of haters! YUP I SAID IT!

Ah, that would be Sept. 1, 2008. learn the rules of recruiting "know it all."
LOL once again we see that it is not only the U11-14 parents that love to talk about their kids or teams.
please help me understand.....if the 2010 players can't be recruited until 9/1/09, then that would mean the 2009 players would not be recruited until 9/1/08 (less than three weeks away).

Could be better. Could be worse. Good luck to all teams in 2009.
July 1, 2008 they can call seniors (2009s) and have off-campus contact with seniors.
Sept 1, 2008 they can email or write juniors (2010s)
Anytime before that they can send 2011/2112 1 questionnaire and camp brochures, nothing else. Players can all them anytime.

The judging of strength of bracket as measured by finalists or champs produced is hilarious. You can't pay for better entertainment than this.
I'll bite.
At least they gave credit to those who actually produced on the field at the end of the day.
With or w/o OS the MTA 16s will win State Cup in 2009.
She's an excellent player but it's a strong team at least 13-14 deep.
5:00 or should I call you ES?
You are CRAZY! Bangu, Tsunami, MTA or what ever you are calling yourselves these days, won't win state cup next year. Lets face it, their run is OVER! Its time that another team steps in.
After Bangu loses the State Cup 09 in U-16 girls. ALL of your top players will want to leave. Probably because you do not provide the best options for the best players no longer.
Its ok for you to keep dreaming though ES
6:46 - and these better options are what....EP?, Wayzata? Woodbury? Until someone beats them they are still the favorites.
10:04:
I will wait for you to respond ;)
No comeback yet bangu coaches?????
Thats ok.
I will give you a little more time to gather your thoughts.
so I'll check back with you in the morning.
Make sure you remember to mention how many state cups the club has already won! Thats always a good one.
Best wishes OS and welcome MK.
MTA will lose to PSA U14 boys? It might happen. But PSA is not a U14 team. They have at least three kids on that team who are much older than U14, unless they play U13 for the third straight year. It is totally disgusting.
sounds like PSA pulled a "Bangu",funny really.
SSMSouthCampus
10:07-- I am sure that the WDM Heat and Inferno have met a few times over the years....what have the results been?
DANGER-- I am casting bait here... watch out for hooks!
SSMSouthCampus
I will agree that SSM provides a better serious soccer option than any club that currently exists in Iowa.
i wouldn't hang my hat on receiving a "mass-mailed" questionnarie or "plea$e come to our camp$".
10:01- These aren't the typical "mass-mailed" items or "plea$e come to our camp$".
But, if it makes you feel better...sure.

Fargo Soccer Club Wins US Soccer Federation Grievance
North Dakota, Minnesota and 3 Local Clubs Found In Violation of Multiple Bylaws
Once again, the MYSA Board shows their stupidity. I wonder what the legal fees for this one is?
So all those teams are going to be forced to travel to Fargo to play?
City teams already have to travel to Eau Claire, Duluth or Rochester for league games.
SSM will not win at U18s and the U15 Jedi won't get to the semis at state cup next year. Jedi already lost 2 or 3 top players to other teams. They were 3rd place in league which about where their talent stacks up. The did play gutsy, but were lucky at state cup.
MYSA and Midwest League league formations are out for the fall season, any predictions per age group?
Now that the teams have been selected are there any mass player migrations to report. Or were all the rumors just rumors?
How did Eden Prairie get in the Midwest League at U14? That team didn't do much at all in Minnesota this past season.
12:02 It seems as someone indicated somewhere above that Thunder lost significant numbers in the South.
Good weekend for MTA U12G going 3-2 and a finalist at Eclipse tourney with a win over a nationally ranked opponent.

12:29 - are you talking EDP U14 girls or boys? At least the boys are MYSA Premier.
7:06:
Any team can apply to the MRL. If not a enough "good" teams apply, then, even mediocre teams can get in. Check this past Spring results, ie., Bangu Blue 16's and Bangu White 17's. Did they belong?
ouch 10:51...wake up on the wrong side of the annual state cup draw vs. that team?
Can someone who really knows the answer please clarify whether any of the SE have moved to MTA?
JT steps down at Tonka
How come Cottage Grove is having tryouts of U15 boys at the premier level when the last I looked there best team was playing at the C1 level? Anybody have the scoop?
I thought Dakota and the Wings got promoted to premier after the U14 season.
Not very involved on the boys side but I think if Thunder plays Midwest and choose not to play P league than Cottage Grove woudl be next in line, since two teams got relegated.

Anyone know if the Minnesota Premier Soccer League got off the ground this fall? Haven't heard anything about age groups so I'm thinking not.

Most coaches use fall season to work out issues, try new formations and introduce players to new systems and tactics. A ranking discussion about fall league is pointless. The results are meaningless.
749, sorry your team wasn't listed. Let us know which team they are and maybe we could give them an Honorable mention!!
There will be a surprise in the U-13 girls West. If I told you now, it wouldn't be a surprise, would it?
1132, please enlighten us
Remember the discussion about how the U12 DKT Rev girls were going to take over the U13 age group?
St Croix was indicating prior to team placements that they were getting an influx of players from the east Bangu teams, any truth to that?
are the MTA U13's still in pool play? if so, when are the teams going to be named?
Interesting there is no mention of North Metro at U13, they did win summer state at both U11 and U12.
What about Tonka they had two C1 teams finish in the top half of the West this summer. I believe they also played a few tournaments 11 v 11.
Tonka won't be a factor and neither will North metro. That's my opinion.
Give me a break, people.
i don't think cottage grove is deep enough so they will carry a small roster
Anyone playing in the MPSL? Anyone?
Weekend MRL U14 Girls Scores
Tonka 0; Team Chicago 5
Tonka 0; Chicago Fire 4
Tonka 0; NSA Premier 4
Eden Prairie 0; Team Chicago 2
Eden Prairie 0; Chicago Fire 6
Eden Prairie 0; NSA Premier 3

Any of the U-13 girls look good last weekend?
REV Could have been 15 but coach took it easy and played all players in different positions after 10 minutes. With that said know idea how good or bad Eagan is. The REV team will get tested and JFG and hopefully they play Thunder at the NSC CUP that could be a very good game maybe the best of the fall season.
Looks like White Bear, Cottage Grove and Eden Prairie had dominant wins too. Pretty early, half the teams haven't even played a game yet.
Rules are also being broken by MTA teams regarding players training with a club during the high school soccer season while on a high school team.
SSMSouthCampus
SSMSouthCampus
The rule says nothing about training.
Participation defined: practice, TRAINING, tryouts, scrimmaging and competing.
Just for Girls fall Tournament is this weekend in Des Moines . I see only 3 MN teams.
U-12 Maplebrook and Edina
U-13 Dakota Rev
Edina and Rev are both 3-0 in MYSA fall league, it doesn't look as if Maplebrook is playing fall.
Should be a real test for all teams. Most teams participating are from IA MO IL NEB KS.
Good luck to all MN teams.

SSMSC
How about a recap of the Shattuck u16 from MRL play last weekend?
Good luck to the MN teams.
I would agree that JFG is a nice tournament for U12-14. They get some good teams in from the surrounding states.
Hey SSC, BB and her parents came by last nite, guess who mite be coming?? It went really well.
SSMSouthCampus
I think at those ages your insane to travel 2 states out.
ugly kits? lying coachs'?....my kid goes there...I haven't seen any of this....do you know this first hand or do you just spot garbage?
JFG although still a good tournament is not what it used to be (especially the spring event). Not bad at the youngest ages.
Rankings at the younger ages (especially regional rankings) mean squat.
I kind of like the ASC kits.
SSMSC is correct that most younger Iowa teams oftentimes opt to play in their own tournaments (JFG, WDM Premier, etc...).
Is there a separate Iowa soccer blog for these guys to use to argue?
whose arguing??
Yea, I know first have about ASC. A coach was caught double dipping. That is theft if you ask me. Good luck to you and your player, hope you get EVERYTHING that they are promising you!!
ugly kits? lying coachs'?....my kid goes there...I haven't seen any of this....do you know this first hand or do you just spot garbage?
17/9/08 8:05 AM
Yea, right, and Im married to the Alaska Gov.
SSMSouthCampus
You jsut proved my point SSMSC...ASC has good teams at U11/12, but WHAT happens to these SAME teams/players at U15, 16, 17?? MMMMM? The current leadership has been there for many years now, and its the same thing over and over and over again.
Minnesota blog, not Iowa....don't care.
Then dont read it...ha
I like IA, one of the few states we play at regions we can expect to win against.
Good luck this weekend in Madison BTE girls!!
Come on down to Texas y'all and we will spank ya and send your kids back home crying for their mamas.
Wouldn't post it if it wasn't true.
Hey Tex,
C'mon up in January and we'll play outside when it's 15 below zero...we'll whip your freezing butts then!
LOL
157, nice post John!
Who are BTE girls?
sorry MTE
sorry MTE
Guess the name change isn't sticking even with the cheerleaders.
I am proud to say that I am a supporter - cheerleader if you will but my legs are way to ugly - of my childs team. Madison here we come.
And notice I have not degraded or ripped any other club or team with this post.
Just to clarify, it is the MTE U12 White going down to Madison and the MTA U13 pool group.
good luck to them and any other team traveling out of state this fall.
12:49 Agreed! Lets get behind all of the teams working to improve themselves this fall by trying to attend quality tournaments.
Maplebrook, Edina, Dakota Rev and MTA.
Wishing all 4 teams all the best.
What other fall Tourneys are MN teams playing in? Lets support the state regardless of club affiliation.
I see Tonka U-13's tied Eden Prairie 1-1 today. Anybody see it? Someone said Tonka could be good. Didn't Eden Prairie take 2nd in summer State?
JFG or Madison results?
Anyone know how SSM U-16 girls did in their MRL game today?
Not sure of the 16s, but SSM 18s won both of there MRL games this weekend.
REV U13 beat WDM, KC Legends and Arsenal before losing on PK's to Gladiators in the semi at JFG.
The MTA U13 teams played eachother in the final and the MTA U12 team won as well.
Looks like Dakota Rev played some good teams at JFG. Madison teams MTA played against were who?
for u13, the die is cast for next spring state cup as dakota rev vs. bangu (u13) or bangu (u13) vs bangu (u12). the other teams (EP, Cottage Grove, Edina, burnsville, North metro, etc) with fight for the other 3 or 4 premier spots as the season goes on.
Anyone know how the U12's did at JFG (Edina and Maplegrove)? Nothing on JFG website.
Thanks,
I know Edina won their fist game 5-0
Maplebrook lost first game 0-3 and tied their last game 0-0.
Those were the only scores I saw for either team.
SSMSouthCampus
Good health to your daughter SSMSC.
So I assuming that SSM U-16 girls will not be participating in the MRL Premier league in the spring.
I thought that team was going to be amazing and take over the state by beating our MTA team?
12:59 - No, that's EP that will be beating your MTA team. I'm not sure why you were ever afraid that a bunch of u15s and u14s would beat your u16 team. Low confidence?
Ooh! Good one, hater. You got 'em good!
SSMSouthCampus
SSMSC I doubt that 1259 was an MTA person. I do suspect that he got the reaction from both you and 356 that he hoped for.
3:56,
You are crazy! Come play for a real club
At the conclusion of the ODP District Select fall training, are there any comments about the quality of the program thus far, before player evaluations?
U-13 Girl's C-1 West this weekend.
Edina vs. Tonka - Sat
Eden Prairie vs. PSA - Sat
Edina vs. Eden Prairie -Sun
PSA vs. Tonka - Sun
Once again, Eden Prairie and Edina will come out on top. Should be fun to watch which teams emerge from the West as U-13 favorites for next year.
North Metro wins 3-2 over Eau Claire in the last 30 seconds, great game. Eau Claire lead 2-1 and North Metro came back to win.
Anyone hear about the West U-13's?
Tonka 2 Edina 1
Someone posted here awhile ago that Tonka would be tough. Did they combine there two teams? Anyone know. Are they that good to tie Eden Prairie and beat Edina?
Stop posting about U13 until atleast state cup next year.
At U13 only two good teams REV and Thunder unless you count MA's squad than we have three in the state.
to 7:58 maybe EP and Edina are that bad =)
No one is "that bad" this time of year. By next summer you can speculate on these teams, way, way too early to do that now other than those who want to do some unfounded bragging.
1232, don't forget about the white U13 Thunder team. They will be a strong team also.
Maybe. Wait until next spring to find out....
for certain the teams that 'played up' as u13 last season have a huge head start (dakota rev, MTAx2) and dominate in the fall on all fronts (DR only 2-1 over Cottage Grove is a surprise although they probably dominated possession). the gap will narrow by the end of next summer but the 3 best teams will still be dr, and MTAx2 (or 3). as much as I disrespect the tactics to get there, DR and MTA have put together fairly solid teams for MN standards. i posted earlier that the rest of the state will fight for the other premier league spots depending on where the MTA teams place themselves
i agree that until state cup, no one really knows. i still contend the group is much stronger than the previous u13 group (now u14)
4:52 What do you disrespect about the "tactics to get there" you referenced in your post? Was it the playing up at U-12?
452, What do you mean MTAx2 (or 3)
What U13 teams will play NSC CUP, looks like 6 of them will play Harvest fest. Any MTA teams at NSC CUP?
What Premier League age group and gender would you like an opinion on?
I think the stain a previous coach left on the team and school is to blame for some of the way people view the AHA program.
14,15 and 16 are probably the most interesting age groups, the older once should be pretty established by now.
Predictions for Girl's Premier for 2009:
U-14 Tonka and Burnsville to battle for top. Wings (MTW) could be team to beat depending what they do with roster.
U-15-NSS is again the favorite.
U-16-Eden Prairie should win easily.
U-17-PSA will win going away for 4th straight year.
U-18-Woodbury Inferno (U-17) will finally win league, as rest of U-18's have graduated and have lost motivation.
14 Burnsville, Woodbury, Tonka, MTA (west)
15 EP, NSSA, Wayzatta, REV
16 EP, MTA (u15), Wayzatta, MTA
17 PSA, Edina, St Croix, Lakeville
18 Wings, Inferno
10:07 Way to go out on a limb with your 14 and 17 predictions. Pick 4 of 6 and I like your chance to find a winner :)
BTW I think Tonka takes U-14 ahead of Burnsville. I think Burnsville is good but has built their team on strength ahead of skill and they will not be able to push around the talent of the Premier level teams like they were able to do as a C1 team last year.
Thatw as the order of how they will finish
Didn't tonka U14 lose to Burnsville in the state tournament? 2-0 according to the MYSA website. Heard they also added some quality players to their team. Tonka do that as well? What about the MTA blue team? Are they not playing premier?
Are all the teams listed on the MYSA site all committed to MN Premier in 2009 (mainly some of the older teams)? For some reason I thought a few of them were going to focus more on MRL.
Why not play both MRL usually done by the time MYSA league play starts, U14 Blue will not play MYSA
The general thinking is that game days could be better used for training (where teams really do get better) and that the training:game ratio should be much higher on the training side. Also, of the MN premier 10 games that each team plays, for the top teams, there might be tops 4 games that are truly challenges (in my honest opinion).
Why aren't the U14 Blue (MTA?) not playing MYSA?
1:52 P.M.
Agreed, the MN Premier leagues are not very challenging.
In the bigger schemes of life that's probably very sound thinking.
wonder what the response would be if you asked the team if they wanted to play some more games? i'd bet they all would rather play.
It appears that the Inferno are looking to play MRL this year. What benefit will they get by playing MRL First Division?
MRL Applications are due by Nov. 10.
3:21,
Players would all rather play more games, thats not surprising.
But do they know more about development than the heads of USSF?
My hunch is USSF knows more about player development than youth players.
Don't know does not appear that USA have developed many top international players on the mens side.
The problem is the travelling and as a result many teams have to play 2-4 games in two days. Pretty sure USSF would prefer teams playing 2 games a week vs 4 on a weekend.
anon 9:19,
You're right.
Same folks who scream "great kick Johnnie" when he launches one aimlessly out of the defensive back line......
What we all have to remember is that youth sports sometimes are as much for the parents as they are for the child.
As an example, on the girls side if U16 Blue and EP both play only MRL next year, then does a team like Wayzata stick around?
how hard is it to keep a premier spot if the competition is so bad?
they automatically relegate the bottom team as well as (i believe this is the case) any other team that does not win at least 25% of their potential points. if the top two leave and the bottom one gets relegated, then for the new year you now have at least half of the league being comprised by teams that were C1 the previous year.
Like next years U15 boys league could be as many as three new teams that played C1 last year if Thunder leaves
Anyone read the letter from NSC? Looks like NSC and MYSA can not figure out how to avoid a conflict between state and USA cup, how hard could it really be?
