Please don't speak without knowing the facts, ok.
They had a number of injuries throughout the year including State Cup. It's hard to stay on top! But, it's great to see all the MN boys at that age group improving and the competition evening out. Good competition is what it's all about in my opinion.

If you want to know about their tryouts, you should have come!

Anonymous said...

excuses, excuses

Anonymous said...

how come no one talks about blackhawks? they were a very strong team last year and they didnt even win state cup. they even lost some league games. it just goes to show top teams cannot always play thier best.

Anonymous said...

Where are the kids playing that decided not to go back to shattuck?

Anonymous said...

Tyler Heaps is a for sure for Mr. Soccer and if he gets hurt for De La Salle it has to go to the next best player in the state Gunnar Knutson...

Anonymous said...

Antonio Baldelli..family changed mind. Will not be coming to Sota. He will be attending a soccer academy in Florida. He has a cousin who plays major league baseball and lives in Florida. It's too bad because we will miss the opportunity to see a real potential super star.

Anonymous said...

Your U16B State Cup Champs will conduct tryouts for their U17 repeat this evening at Lucy Winton Bell. 7pm. Be there and be part of something.

Anonymous said...

Jay-Jay Okocha was trying to make a comeback with the nigerian national team but he apparently showed up to the wrong training camp.

Anonymous said...

Wait tyler heaps and gunnar knutson the worst players on the Bangu U17 team?

Anonymous said...

RG - proper noun

A very average-good player. Jock ridden by fellow players with man-love. Most likely to not progress like many before him. Will not play D1 soccer or pro because he is not willing to work hard. Only ODP play, against non-USSF academy players, is anything to talk about. Still 30 minutes of good play, over 3 days of games, does not equal a career.

Anonymous said...

Let's all remeber that the regional pool is not what it used to be. USSF academy teams have pulled most of the top players from MI, OH-S, OH-N, IL, MO...these guys don't even go to ODP regional camp anymore. Leaves more room for WI, IA and MN players.

SE tryouts were not what the over-zelous parents are touting. They will be even worse next year.

Anonymous said...

Any update on any tryouts for next years summer teams?

Anonymous said...

how can you say he had a good 30 minutes when every tournament he goes to he gets many division 1 offers and has many college that have already offered to pay his full tuition.. WHY comment on something you don't know anything about?

Anonymous said...

you guys really know what you're talking about..

RG already committed to Wisconsin on a n 85% first two years and 100% last two years for his scholarship.

Anonymous said...

i heard matt hibbs is the ultimate player on U17 bangu

Anonymous said...

To reiterate a point, colleges do not offer 4 year sports scholarships. It is against NCAA rules. They offer single year, renewable scholarships that get reevaluated each year.

Anonymous said...

How much of that scholorship was athletic and how much was financial aid/grants etc....RG is good, but it would be very surprising to see a 85% athletic scholarship being given out when they only at most have 9.9 to give.

Anonymous said...

haha does matt hibbs still wear a headband?

Anonymous said...

It's funny that the minivans on here spend so much time discussing and being upset about scholarships, coaches, race relations, premier clubs, youth academies, player awards, etc., while it appears the thing the kids care most about is whether or not some player still wears a headband.

(that player must not be very good in the air if he's wearing a headband)

Anonymous said...

None of these kids have decided what team to play on so most of the better soccer players that were U16 this year i trying out for a couple of teams

Anonymous said...

8:31-I haven't read anything that looks like zealous or over zealous SE parents writing stuff on this blog.

Anonymous said...

But how about that jefferson team they sounded like they might be amazing this year

Anonymous said...

i heard that too they got alot of talent. It sould be a fun team to watch this year

Anonymous said...

hahahahaha...that was a joke right?

Anonymous said...

Twin Cities school for the blind > Jefferson

Anonymous said...

anyone have any news on any tryouts for next summers teams

Anonymous said...

While RG is the type of player that Madison recruits, quick and good technical skills, I highly doubt they have offered him 85% athletic scholarship. Much better players do not have the same level of scholarship at Madison right now.

Many schools divide up the tuition and room and board. So possibly a player of his caliber (which is highly over rated) as an incoming freshmen could get 85% of instate tuition or 85% of room and board. But no way 85% of the total package would be given. Madtown reserves that sort of money for the international students.

Besides their coaching staff will be fired after under achieving again this year.

Anonymous said...

Humboldt > Jefferson

Anonymous said...

state final < Jefferson

Anonymous said...

School of the Blind should be a team to watch this year...what position do you play?

Anonymous said...

that's funny 7:42, because Rodrigo directly told me that he got that specific scholarship...why would he lie?

Anonymous said...

Why are you so mad that Rodrigo got a scholarship to a good school? He is a great soccer player and i wish the best for him at Madison and the rest of his soccer career.

Anonymous said...

haha school for the blind are fun to "watch" (pardon the pun)

I heard one of their guys is a mr. soccer candidate. I think Air Bud is his guide dog on the field.

Anonymous said...

How is a player "overrated" when half the people on here say he isn't any good and that he "can only cut the ball?" Doesn't seem very highly rated.

Who cares what kind of scholarship he got. Just being invited to play at Madison is better than 99% of the other boys in MN will ever accomplish. Good for RG. He's one of the top 10 MN players I've seen in the last couple years.

Anonymous said...

This may just be a rumor but i heard that Chaska is getting some foreign kid from Canada that played on their national team... does anyone know if this is true??? How much could that change a struggling soccer program like that?

Anonymous said...

No RG does not have a offer from Madison, Yet

Anonymous said...

No more HS rule interpretation meetings!!!! We still have to listen to TJ online, but at least he is scripted and we can always turn the volume down. No more TJ stupid jokes!!!

Anonymous said...

you know it's high school season when pads are starting to get strapped up on the goalpoasts all over the metro.

Anonymous said...

jefferson is sick

Anonymous said...

stop talking about Summer soccer, Jefferson, and Rodrigo. I have heard about as much as i can about all of them

Anonymous said...

i think the two teams to beat will be champlin and maple grove..they both have some solid players..

Anonymous said...

jefferson is the team to beat....rodrigo is the kid to beat....

Anonymous said...

yeah both of those teams will be at the dome they have to much talent not to get that far

Anonymous said...

who do they have??

Anonymous said...

Why do boys play soccer anyway??

Anonymous said...

yeah maple Grove is the better out of those two teams

Anonymous said...

who does maple grove have thats dangerous?

Anonymous said...

Guys play soccer because in countries like Italy and Spain, those dudes are bringing home more lolitas than Kobe could ever fathom.

Around here, not yet.

Anonymous said...

They have that good striker from Champlin and who cares they have the best goalie in the state Jeff Webster

Anonymous said...

Holm plays for Champlin, Canton plays for TG, Brandon plays for Wayzata. MG does not have a good stiker that I know of.

Webster is out with a torn mincus (sp) I've heard. So they will be going with a very young goalie :) CP has an athletic goalie, it will be interesting to see if he can step up to the plate. A Goalie is a big question mark for both teams.

MG is solid on the outside, with no strikers. CP is solid on the inside, with a couple of very good strikers. The defense on both teams is about the same.

With the coaching change at CP, I think they could be very dangerous this year. I like CP a bit more obviously, and when these two teams play it should be quite the match to see. I think the team that comes out of this sectional will depend on those unknown soccer/athletes. You know the guys playing Rec/C1/Hmong League/Liberian League.

Anonymous said...

webster will only be out for 1 or 2 games

Anonymous said...

I'd include the usual suspects such as Stillwater and AV, but I'd add Jefferson, Anoka again? I saw them early in the year and figured they would win. They still have the kid that can throw the ball a mile, which means many scoring chances.

Maple Grove? They have that Webster kid who is a good goalie, but nobody to help.

What interests me most is what urban teams will compete this year. It seems these teams are always overlooked here because they don't have 12 kids playing in the MWL, Premier, etc... Osseo will beat a few good teams do to amazing forwards, Central maybe?

Who else is out there who doesn't have the money and recognition?

Anonymous said...

I'd throw my hat in for Champlin. They have a lot of athletes. I think someone else mentioned the X factor, which is the seniors playing C1/Hmong/Liberian league.

I think you can win a lot of games with the bigger/tougher boys. Just ask Scanlon at AV--you only need one or two really good players... An old C1 team can wreck a younger premier squad in no time.

Anonymous said...

CP vs MG on 9/11/08 according to the HS web site. Which sound like it will be before Webster is back or after he's just gotten back. Osseo, is a scrappy team, but last year was their talent year. Anoka, they are a completely different team this year. The only one returning is the long throw in guy, who I heard was playing down in TX this summer. CR has almost a compete C1 team that will be seniors this year also, that could be a real sleeper in that conference.

Armstrong I heard will be quite good this year. They may not play real pretty soccer, but I beleive they will certainly have the X factor an be playing bigger and tougher.

I'd be interested to hear about Lakeville, Eagan and Edina. Edina always seems to have the potienial but doesn't seem to be able to bring it home lately. I know they have a couple of solid midfielders, a forward and a keeper.

Anonymous said...

All you need to do well in high school soccer is depth in athletic players--that's AV and all other big schools for that matter.

Anonymous said...

Eagan will have a bunch of C1 kids along with a great striker that was only able to play half of last year... they will be a solid team.
Edina has 5 Kids from the Edina Premier team and 2 kids for the Bangu team and has a U15 team that won state.. so they should be pretty deep.
Lakeville had a great season last year but they are losing their goalie and 5 starters.. they may sruggle this year but will not be bad

Anonymous said...

Certainly the Mega school have an advantage over the Armstrong, Brainerd, Moundsview etc... But I would rather my son play at one of those school. The opportunity to be a 3-sport letter winner is definiately greater. Winning a state tournament once every one to ten years is a poor consolation.

Anonymous said...

9:20 I totally disagree

Anonymous said...

Thanks anon 7:39

I'd like to see some conversation about each conference now that the season is right around the corner.

Anonymous said...

Either EP, Edina, or Jefferson from the lake

Anonymous said...

first of all edina is not in the lake conference, secondly the top two from the lake are clearly EP and AV followed by a strong group of teams that includes Jefferson, Eastview, Rosemount, Lakeville North, Eagan, who could all put it together for a run at the title but everyone is chasing EP and AV

Anonymous said...

Central has 10 premier players to build around (4 bhk 15,2 bhk 16,1 bangu 16,1 lakeville 17,2 white bear 17) But I heard they might not have a top goalie. Also central tends to get a lot of players from various ethnic communities that do not play any MYSA. Humbolt has some great offense but D is a question. I like Edina in the classic lake and EP in the Lake, Champlin, Hill, South or Southwest, in there Confrences. Suburban East is a 5 team race. It should be a fun year.
A good tournement at the begining of the year should be the MN Cup Stillwater, EP, Central, and Wayzata.

Anonymous said...

I think people counting on U16 premier players are out to lunch.

With these young kids, only a rare few will get in done in a tough game. They may be more skilled than the senior C1 on the other side of the field, but when they are crashing into each other it's a different game.

Anonymous said...

That may be the most ignorant comment i have ever seen on here i know for a fact that the top u-16 teams this season beat the top u-17 premier teams when they played so how are C-1 kids going to compete with them, u-16 kids are going to be juniors, only one year younger than the "dominating" C-1 seniors, i would put my money on an team of all juniors to beat a team of all seniors any day, the u-16 age group is one of the best and deepest this state has ever seen and they are going to be the top players this fall for high school soccer

Anonymous said...

"Got a scholarship" seems to be much different that your previous "full ride for 4 years" comments. I'm sure everyone is happy to see a MN kids get some help going to college. Your got yourself in trouble by significantly exagerating his accomplishments...get of his jock, as previous posters have said. I will still guess that his development will not progress and he will struggle to see any PT at Madison, scholarship or not.

Anonymous said...

Anon 11:08 huh? "top u-16 teams this season beat the top u-17 premier teams"

The only U17 Premier team that I know of that lost to a U16 team was the Wings. Yeah, the Wings that were religated out of premier, and at best were a average C1 team. They had major coaching problems with Mr. Sanchez leaving them during State Cup and a rotating coaching staff for the remainder of the year.

I would take a physical C1 team with a sprinkling of talented ball handers over the support of some small U16 Premier players. Remember this is HS soccer, it ain't pretty.

MMA is where it's at today. This is a studs only sport growing like wildfire.Soccer is for girly types that like runnin around in shorts kickin the ball and whining.

Anonymous said...

3:34 - Please forgive my ignorance, but what is MMA? And if you have such a disdain for soccer, why are you on a soccer blog?

Anonymous said...

I like when non-footballers poke fun at girly footballers for having sweaty legs in short shorts.

- David Beckham and all his other Euro buddies can pull more wool than Kobe Bryant, Joe Mauer and Pat Williams, combined.

- Baseball players where tight pants and constantly play with their balls.

- Football players where tighter pants and constantly pat each other on those tight pants.

- Basketball players are half-naked sweat machines who enjoy rubbing up against one another.

Don't they all seem a little girly?

ada boy MARADONA

Anonymous said...

American Football-you wear pads and helmets and stop the play every 4 seconds. so if your tough shit play rugby then talk shit.

Baseball- you dont run more than 90 feet and you mostly just stand there. you also year gloves to catch a ball. so if your tough shit play cricket where the ball is the same and they dont wear gloces and the game can take days to finish.

Basketball- you wear tank tops and and if you run into a guy its a foul and you barely run.

so if you play any of those sports dont think your hot shit

Anonymous said...

C'mon...rugby?? Isn't that a game where a bunch of sweaty fat dudes lean on each other.

I think the previous poster is on to something as it's been said the MMA is the fastest growing sport in the world.

Anonymous said...

What the heck is MMA?

Mom Mandated Athletes?

Anonymous said...

Mixed Marshall Arts (aka Ultimate Fighting). Fun to watch, not fun to play.

Anonymous said...

Where are all of the RG jock riders??? It was so much fun poking at them...

Can we get 6:18 removed from the blog? There isn't any reason that we need to tolerate that disrespectful behavior here.

Anonymous said...

Obviously, not a HS player. Most of those are on the field practicing or resting up. Looks more and more like a 'wanta be'.

Anonymous said...

Hill-Murray has some very strong underclassmen. Maybe not this year, but watch out next.

Anonymous said...

Where do you go to look at all the conferences and which schools are playing in those conferences?

Anonymous said...

Just go back a page from this link and look on the right side

MNF said...

6:18 you have been reported to the blog host for bad language. Go away and don't come back.

Anonymous said...

smalls from jefferson is a lock for mr soccer...latest rumors is matt hibbs signs with manchester united? congrats to matt

Anonymous said...

Smalls??? This blog is turning into a joke... Why is someone making fun of Matt Hibbs he is not a bad player and had a great high school season last year and will probably do the same this year

U.S. mens olympic team gets flushed right down the toilet by Nigeria. Why any male plays soccer in the U.s. is a mystery. The U.S. men will never win anything. Poor coaches and weak players.

Anonymous said...

poor players? those are some of the best players we have..dont say that our players are weak soccer players..its just that our whole country is weak compared to other european countries..

Anonymous said...

Thanks baseball player...go back to your 62 seconds of action in a 4 hour game.

Anonymous said...

Matt is not good... some one should teach him how to finish.

Anonymous said...

Why did you delete 6:18? He was the jock-rider extrodinare showing his real class! I can't believe some HS kids have nothing better to do than ride another guys jock. Or is it some guy riding his own jock??? Could be...even people in St. Paul know how to type!

Anonymous said...

Anyone have any comments on the story in today's Strib about the latest ideas from the communist nanny state known as the MSHSL. For as badly out of touch MYSA is, these Oprahized wienies take the cake. Families should decide how much family time they want, not have it force fed to them like the MSHSL wants to do.

Anonymous said...

anyways..can we talk about HS soccer??

Anonymous said...

This kid is obviously obsessed with jocks... If you like them so much this is not a good way to come out

Leave it up to the Boys HS Blog to have all this profound locker room talk.

Us men haven't evolved since the caveman era.

A. Brock Lesnar and his power
B. Freddie Adu and his quickness
C. Joe Mauer and his club swinging/rock throwing

Congrats to EVHS and Wartburg Alum for being hired to coach boys at HS alma mater! Good Luck in the seasons ahead!

Anonymous said...

1:43 is a late 20 something still thinking he knows the kids "lingo", feeling young, thinks he can still play with the young guys, but looking old and suck on the pitch..."jock riding" is what they call it dill-weed..."get with the program" is so 1995...you sound like an idiot! So "bite me"(from 1985 according to my dad)

It's unfortunate that a blog with such good intentions has been overwhelmed with boring conversation about nothing to do with Minnesota High School Soccer. If you are not here to discuss this topic, please leave the blog and find a better avenue for your crass behavior.

To answer the soccer question most recently posted, the MSHSSCA should be releasing the preseason poll sometime during the week of August 25 when game schedules begin.

Anonymous said...

There really is nothing more than speculation until the season starts, let the kids have their fun.
What was the comment about Wartburg alum referring to?

Kid,
You have a decent point. However, your message would carry a lot more weight if you used correct spelling, proper grammar, proper punctuation, less slang and fewer derogatory terms.

I'm sure you're bright and educated. Use that to your advantage and teach us something.

Anonymous said...

Will Lakeville North be even close to as strong as last year?

Anonymous said...

All I know is that they lost a good goalie.

Anonymous said...

North has some good young players, but they lost a lot from last season, they should be good, but there are a lot of questions that they need answered, but there is potential

Anonymous said...

How are the different conferences selected? It seems to me that Eden Prairie should be in the Classic Lake conference with Minnetonka and Wayzata (only 5 in this conference) vs. the Lake Conference - Any thoughts?

Anonymous said...

i feel that galvan has a great chance to win this years mr. soccer. even if he doesnt score the goals, as long as he controls the middle of a successful team he should win. i.e. monasterio over hutton and colago last year (player vs. scorers)

Anonymous said...

Mr soccer??? R U Nuts.....Minn players don't compare to players from Texas,Florida etc. Mr Soccer is a joke.

Anonymous said...

Seen Jefferson practice...They are outstanding and are a good bet to win it all.

Anonymous said...

12:01-

You spelled grammar wrong.

Anonymous said...

ok bud.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Soccer will be a joke this year as general talent and HS play have really dropped off.

Anonymous said...

what you guys just cant wrap your pin heads around is the fact that dan storlien is coaching the jefferson boy's highschool team. he is an amazing coach and knows how to lead a team to a championship. Also, Jefferson has 8 premier players, and a lot of C1 team players. If they can come to work as a team and learn to play with eachother well, then they should be a favorite to win the state championship this year. I don't know many other teams that can compete with those numbers. Plus Jefferson's goalies are premier and C1 so they should be solid.

Anonymous said...

so is that why Danny took the job, talent laden favs.

Anonymous said...

Valley and EP in the same conference have more premier players than that and fill out their teams with C1 players as well, I will agree that Dan is a good coach, but EP has a good coach and you cant argue with the 7 state championships that Valley has, so if Jefferson is a favorite to win state, what are EP and Valley favored to win, it should be a good race to see who wins it this season

Anonymous said...

No kidding their is no way you can say a team is favored to win in that section... Eagan will be really good this year as well, but i think too much talent left last year for Apple Valley to compete with the best teams

Anonymous said...

And the top Minnesota player could for sure compete with the top players from Texas, flordia, California

Anonymous said...

Its DS's MO. He will only coach teams with a bunch of quality players. While he does make good players better by making them work hard, he really is not very good a developing talent. Even the AV coach can get his guys to work hard and everybody knows he really doesn't know what he is doing. He has won a bunch of championships.

Anonymous said...

It's true everyone knows that DS does not care about non varsity players but thats what the other coaches are for

Anonymous said...

Alex Olsen is the best junior in the state BY FAR!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

could armstrang have a good year? i hear they have some talent and a pretty good coach

Anonymous said...

I am almost positive Whitney Browne is about it but that might be good enough.. haha seriously

Anonymous said...

if he can control his temper and stay on the field for them

Anonymous said...

12:45 The kid should go to MMA tryouts in OCT. They help you develop your mind and body and improves self control.Have to be 16 and parental sign off.MSHL should look into sactioning it as a sport.

Anonymous said...

whitney is an amazing player im sure they have other solid players whitney is a play maker as well as a goal scorer they could be good

Anonymous said...

There really is no place for a play maker in MN bootball. The kid may be a PLAYER but he will be bored stiff. For a play maker to be successful he needs a few other players around him.MN does not develop these type of players at the HS or club lavel. It's unfortunate but that's the way it is.

Anonymous said...

Colin Monasterio was a player maker. One of the best youth players to come out of MN over the past 5 years.

Anonymous said...

Ryan MacArthur for BNG U17 is a real playmaker. Anybody who saw him play at CSK at Muscatine knows the real deal.

Anonymous said...

everytime i play against whitney he has done noting for his team i dont know why there is so much hype about him being so good.

Anonymous said...

That's probably cause he was already beating you by a couple goals he decided to take a break

Anonymous said...

yeah because the wings were beating so many people by a couple of goals the last two years

Anonymous said...

What Wings team was beating people by 2 goals in every game?

Anonymous said...

What you see on this blog is the DOPELER EFFECT. The faster BS is thrown at you the greater the tendacy to believe it.

Why does Eagan have to be pretty good? I don't think there terrible but I do believe they will struggle a bit this year. Any credible feedback out there?

Anonymous said...

Ryan Schlitter best forward in the state along with the whole EaganC1 team

Anonymous said...

Eagan C1? Not sure about that, nothing exciting about that squad other than an early exit at the MYSA State Tournament/State Cup this year (again). Schlittler is very talented no doubt. However the supporting cast could be a bit weak if it's the C1 team he will be relying on.

Did anyone look at the Coaches Pre-Season poll?

Jefferson coasted to easy 2-1 win over Hastings.Jags are loaded and should make state.

Anonymous said...

Loaded? Yet only a 2-1 victory against Hastings...proud parent???

Anonymous said...

Coasted, not D.S.'s style. Looking to run up the score on teams like this if he can.

Anonymous said...

Prediction: Jefferson gets tossed by Hill-Murray in State Title Game. Carl Gilbertson, Mr. Soccer frontrunner, gets a hat trick while the Jefferson defense is at his mercy.

Meanwhile, Carl is already feasting on opponents such as the talented South St Paul squad with a 1-0 victory.

Being recruited by the likes of Briar Cliff, Mount Mercy, and DCTC!

Rodrigo Galvin will be left in the dust!

Anonymous said...

Mount Mercy... dang he must be good cause a school like that is happy taking any primer player. I have never heard of the kid

Anonymous said...

Lets see how Jefferson does against a good team like Minneapolis South... You guys will be lucky not to get killed

Anonymous said...

Let me know how bad you guys lose tomorrow

Anonymous said...

South are no powerhouse team but they might be solid, lots of juniors.

Anonymous said...

South can not be bad when the have Dula Fadis on their team

Anonymous said...

South have about 5 Westside premier players plus Fadis, might be a good team

Jefferson lost its best player against Hastings right at the start of the game

South will be fine in their conference, but will struggle out of conference. South's GK could have a hard time keeping the ball out of the net and they are missing a real goal scorer. With Fadis in the middle and a decent back line they shouldn't be a push over...unless their GK situation gets even worse. Coaching may end up being their downfall.

So how does the Burnsville boys coach get away with personnally buying all new uniform kits and equipment for that team. Aren't there rules against that.

Jefferson is absolutely loaded. They are without doubt the #1 team in the state.Don't see them losing a game in the regular season and they should easily make state.

What happened to last years Jefferson's boys coach? Anybody know.....

Apple Valley was up 6-0 at the half. The final was 7-0. They scored another in the first 2 minutes of the second half. AV didn't play many much really after that and Hastings sat playind with 5 Defenders. It could have been much worse in the 1st half also Hastings goalie did make some nice saves.

Jefferson fans should stop the running of the mouth and start to have their kids show up on the field if they truely think they are as good as they say.

He recently became the MN Thunder's interim head coach. Their current coach is the interim assistant coach.

Eagan? Perenially mentioned at the beginning of the year and the everyone realizes that they are middle of the road with a fool in charge.

Burnsville? I'd say that is a good sleeper call.

Rosemount? Haha.
