2010 Boys State Cup

This might be the last year for SSM and MTA/Bangu to field teams U16 and U18. Can MTA repeat with 7 Championships? Brackets and schedules can be found here.

Eden Prairie stunk, but MTA Blue is finally coming together at U17. A hot keeper led EDP out of that bracket.

Premier (and MRL first division)quality will continue to fall as talent flocks to MTA, esp with the academy opportunity for 16s and 18s. EVERYONE with an ounce of skill will want to be in the "system" early to have a shot at the academy teams. MYSA can't stop it. MTA will become its own league.

2:32 - When they're on, they're on. When they're off, you get a 6-0 game. EDP did stink it up on Sunday. The team wasn't prepared mentally. The second goal when the keeper slipped in the mud, took much of the air out of the team. The red card at the start of the 2nd half when one of the EDP players lost their cool was the dagger in the game.

Anonymous said...

3:02, when exactly have they been "on"?

0-2-0 in league
0-3-1 in MRL

Anonymous said...

3:08, I guess the most recent would be state cup, winning their pool.

Anonymous said...

touche, mon ami, but that's a lot of "off" to offset 20 minutes of "on."

Anonymous said...

3:02 -- can't argue with you -- much. The red card occurred with MTA up 4-0 and EDP getting little possession. It was a dagger, but the patient's toe had already been tagged by that point. All around a disspointing game for all who were watching.

SSM dreams pinned to one game Wednesday. Should be an interesting game between two good teams - I would expect emotions to be quite high!

I would not rip the SSM U17 too much, 9:37 - that MTA white team has proven itself quite nicely over the past couple of years. SSM was better in many areas of the game, but needed to make a play at some point to earn the trip to OH.

Is the U17 SSM coach the same as their U17 coach from last year, whose team did not get out of group play?

24/5/10 9:04 AM

YES IT WAS, DIFFERANCE THIS YEAR IS HE WAS ALREADY OUT THE DOOR..WAS NOT ASKED BACK NEXT YEAR..NO EXCUSES THE SSM"S PLAYED HARD AS DID MTA - CONGRATS TO THEM...HOWEVER ALOT OF SAW LIMITED TIME THAT GAME...PURE SHAME>> GL TO MTA 17 BOTH BLUE AND WHITE IN OHIO !

EP Coach was 0-2 in his semifinal games
Boys lost 6-0
Girls lost 7-1

interesting about the ssm coach taking the heat for his teams performances the past two years. hmm

poor ep guy was out of his depth apparently

Hadn't heard the ZK was out at SSM coach (he's the current U17 coach, so I assume that's who is the subject of the prior posts). In February at a "friendly" between MTA U17 Blue and SSM, he was tossed by ref, and his team followed suit by getting 1/2 dozen red cards at end of game for dissent. MTA Blue won the game 2-1, but SSM was coming on before the game was called with 10 minutes left after the flurry of cards. That incident itself could have led SSM to not ask ZK back. SSM had loads of talent, but my son says word is the players don't care much for each other, not an enjoyable environment.

So who's the favorite for U18 boys championship...SSM or BHK?
Have these 2 teams played each other recently?

Anonymous said...

SSM's new slogan -- "What else are you going to do with that extra 35 grand laying around?"

Anonymous said...

16 will be a great final. SCV and MTA White are strong strategic teams. All the gimmick teams/players have been eliminated, leaving two well-coached, smart teams. White beat SCV in MRL a few weeks ago, but this is a toss-up. Both teams beat Blue on their way to the final.

In 17, Blue v. White was not the matchup many wanted to see. Blame SSM. Both teams are already goint to regionals due to 17s getting the wildcard, so don't plan on seeing fireworks here. Blue stormed the field to celebrate White's win over SSM; expect the love-fest to continue.

18 is the game to watch. Blackhawks is LOADED this year, and will give SSM all they can handle. Smart money is on BHK.

is it legal to bet on youth soccer in minnesota

The MYSA has been a gamble for awhile; must be legal, unfortunately

Once again, the girls blog has 3 tiem the postings as the boys. So, are boys parents 1/3 less nuts, or are girls parents 3x more over-involved?

tomASS said...

the latter most certainly !

Anonymous said...

or the boys parents are apathetic....
and the girls parents have more passion....
in actuality since everyone always says to follow the money, your ratio mirrors the college scholarship opportunities available.

tomASS said...

passion or foolishness? Again I choose the latter.

512 - how is being over indulgent and delusional in pursuit of something only the player can earn mistaken for parental soccer passion?

ZK is out (announced 2 weeks prior to semifinal), and that ref was the same who ref'd the semifinal game as well....

Hello Peter !

Good luck to all the teams playing tonight!

Congratulations to Shattuck U18 and St. Croix Rossoneri U16.

After three years look at SSM impressive stats.

2008 U18 Boys State Cup Champions & 2nd Place in Nationals. (with two teams)

2009 U16 Boys State Cup (with 5 teams entered)

2010 U18 Boys State Cup Champions. (with 5 teams entered)

12:31,
After recruiting across the entire USA, Canada and even in Europe I would hope to God that SSM can beat a group of kids from 1 metro area.
Actually when thinking about how the scope and breadth of their recruiting the results are very disappointing. At U17 they lost to MTA's 2nd team of all things!
The little general can't be very happy with the failures in State Cup the past few years. In reality he's had 1 super team with TB but other than that a lot of disappointment.
Heads will continue to roll in Faribault.

Anonymous said...

Congrats to St. Croix Rossoneri U16Boys, a deserving State Cup champion: State Cup semi-finalists or runners up at U13, U14 and U15, and MYSA champs at U11 and U12, and to win it with victories over major rivals MU Wildcats, MU Jedi, MTA Blue, and MTA White. Well done.

Anonymous said...

And this years 18 SSM boys are lucky that valley didn't enter this years state cup because I don't think they would have been able to beat them

Anonymous said...

Hmm, the U18 SCV Red Devils rise to the top was somewhat short lived.....

Blackhawk U18's have lots of talent but sure play dirty, and even with a number of players with excellent athletic talents and skills, they are an undisciplined group. SSM should do well in Regionals, good job SSM. No, I'm not from SSM, I actually root for another U18BPR team.

Anonymous said...

27/5/10 1:53 PM you forgot to mention the hard work those Rossoneri boys put in. Congrats! MTA dad.
P.S. Congrats JK! Still a great coach.

Anonymous said...

2:23, we will never know because Valley chose not to enter State Cup. End of story. So don't continue to blabber in here about how Valley could beat this team or that team.

Anonymous said...

The U16 championship was a great game. huge attendance, back and forth game, mta had moments, scv had moments, final was 2-0 but both goals were scored in the final 5 minutes. i think everyone was thinking OT/kicks when scv broke through. either team was worthy of winning.

Anonymous said...

4:08; why? Does it make you mad knowing you will always be considered second best.

Anonymous said...

Not at all 5:53. If you guys are so good, how come your team didn't sign up, step up and prove it on the pitch?

Anonymous said...

Oh, snap!

Anonymous said...

SSM will be very average at Regionals. The program is on a major decline...even in a watered down tournament, they will just be average, average, average. We'll see how they compete (or don't compete) as part of the DAP next year. Blackhawks are not dirty...if anything SSM is cheap, but probably not dirty.

Anonymous said...

Shattuck (at least boys) are way too egomaniacal given their average success (and lack of success) against average minute teams.

30k for that?

Anonymous said...

Hey MNFUTBOl -whoever you are- why do you refer to MTA as MTA/Bangu? It would be more correct to use MTA/Bangu/Wings.

Anonymous said...

Wings? Are they part of MTA? Really? Show me.

Anonymous said...

Maybe because Wings was just along for the ride.

Anonymous said...

"MTA Green" or "MTA Grey" sounds so much better than "Wings."

Anonymous said...

Green with envy, not much grey matter describes the jealousy

Anonymous said...

I wonder if the Wings folks really knew what they were getting into. What a drag for them.

Anonymous said...

MTA/Bangu parents -- Enjoy paying those increased MTA fees next season!

Anonymous said...

CC members, enjoy mediocrity.

Anonymous said...

MTA/Bangu members, enjoy excellence at the MN level!

Anonymous said...

Like MTA White is so much superior than MTA Green or MTA Grey. You're going down!

Anonymous said...

Didn't MTA White beat Shattuck and are going to Region 2 Championships later this month?

Anonymous said...

What's your point? One white team out of how many wins? Look at the U-14 white team.

Anonymous said...

U17 White are horrible. Zero wins in MRL. They will embarass MN next weekend.

Anonymous said...

Too bad another team couldn't beat them at State Cup that you feel would be less of an embarassment.

Anonymous said...

I think the embarrassment resides down at Shattuck in Faribault and the other clubs who lost to MTA white at State Cup...don't you?

Anonymous said...

4:28 and 8:21, let's talk after regionals. White has a tough draw; they will be an embarassment, as they cannot compete at that level.

Anonymous said...

8:09, I'm not 4:28 or 8:21 no team from MN will be an embarrassment to a true soccer fan.

They earned the right to compete, they will do their best and you should seek therapy regarding your jealousy. These are kids, why do you hate them?

Anonymous said...

Because they looooove to do that 1:14. It's their hobby.

Anonymous said...

just watch. North Korea will look good compared to them.

Anonymous said...

7:49,
So I guess SSM U17's would have been a greater embarrassment?

Anonymous said...

yep. except SSM is loaded but in disarray (everyone hates everyone), whereas MTA White just stinks and got lucky.

Anonymous said...

2:11,
They stink but are better tha your team...right?

Anonymous said...

7:45, he he, no. we beat them.

Anonymous said...

7:56 it doesn't matter, you didn't win when you needed to.

Anonymous said...

I played on a team this winter that beat the team the Tony Sanneh was playing on. That means my team was better than the US National team ... right 7:45?

Anonymous said...

12:32 I think you meant 7:56???

Anonymous said...

Funny how I can't say a team stinks without the immediate "well they're better than your team" comments. They're not better than my team. We didn't get to play them at State Cup.

Just watch. MTA White 17B will get slaughtered in Dayton, and other Region 2 states will wonder how Minnesota could send such a weak second team.

Anonymous said...

No one will wonder. Other states understand that each year someone gets the wildcard and they are generally weaker than the teams that won the right to be there.

Don't be so bitter, maybe next year if everyone is healthy and playing well on the days your team competes.

Anonymous said...

you mean to say that others EXPECT only one good team to go per age group, and if a wildcard is issued, there will be a drop-off? are you serious? Maybe in North Dakota, where there is only one club.

Anonymous said...

I would say their 7-1 defeat today may prove they don't belong there

Anonymous said...

Yikes. 7-1. That's nearly as bad as North Korea. Hopefully their president won't have them killed.

And, Blue barely beat South Dakota. Double yikes.

Anonymous said...

Yet these were the 2 best Minnesota teams. Your team would have been killed by an even greater score.

Anonymous said...

That guy was correct about MTA White U17B not belonging at regionals. 1 goal for, 14 against in two games. Most teams start playing keep away when they get ahead by 4 goals, so it must have taken some effort to lose 7-1 and 7-0. They play the BEST team in the bracket tomorrow. HAVE MERCY!

P.S. No way Shattuck would have "been killed by an even greater score." Shattuck routinely succeeds against teams at that level. White is nowhere near that.

Anonymous said...

You may be right, 10:21...but it is what it is. Soccer can be a very cruel sport at times.

Anonymous said...

Well Shattuck didn't qualify to go so one will never know if they would have shown better, but since they didn't qualify they can just make excuses. Granted the white team is not doing well but they at least earned the right to go.

Anonymous said...

All SSM U17s had to do was beat MTA White in State Cup semi and they would be at regions.
They have no room to complain.
End of story.

Anonymous said...

It's amazing how that didn't happen. Now we're viewed as a very weak soccer state that can't send two competitive teams to regions in an age group. Big Bummer.

Anonymous said...

Another view would be that other states are wondering how shambolic is the SSM U17 team to miss getting to regions with such a "weak" representation.

Anonymous said...

Ouch 9:14! But since it is true, I do like it.

Anonymous said...

Never could understand why boys in the U.S. play soccer. Makes sense for girls.

Anonymous said...

You ever notice that most soccer coaches are small. They play soccer because they would have gotten killed playing Football,Hockey, or Basketball.

Anonymous said...

Whew! Only a 3-1 loss today. Thank goodness Westside United Green didn't need the goal differential. I think "shambolic" fits this group.

Anonymous said...

Congrats to MTA16 and MTA19 girls and MTA15 and SSM18 boys. Good luck in tomorrows semis.

Anonymous said...

4:19,
And to think they're better than SSM and the other teams who entered State Cup!
What a weak age group!

Anonymous said...

lucky does not = better.

Anonymous said...

um, i think we can close this one down.

Anonymous said...

haha you are all bored with your lame lives. FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO DO BESIDES TEARING KIDS AND TEAMS APART OVER THE WEB. Parents can stop crying about how their son or daughter sucks and stop trying to live through their success if any at all. boom

Anonymous said...

The U16 MTA White boys team proved that they were the best U16 age group team, that team consisted of majority Wings players
