i am now 'out of the fray' and only stop in occasionally to feel better about myself. lol.

1. the whole thing boils down to MONEY. nobody is 'doing it for the good of minnesota soccer'. it's about making a living. bangu, ssm, thunder are driven by cash. the cc's MAY be the purest groups but there are problems there also.
2. interesting articles about elk river's former coach in the red star over the last couple weeks. pls remember to protect the kids.
3. and out of the thousands of kids who play soccer (at all levels) in mn, i'd bet there are less than 75 urls that 'contribute' to this site.

state cup is just a couple months away...get ready!

Gramenz is the new Thunder Assistant and Storlien
is back as the coach at Jefferson.

I think it's hilarious that as soon as MA (all 12 of him) signed off, no one writes about him or the Bangu madness, and he doesn't spend his day writing in defiance of reason. It's also timely, given the utter collapse of the Thunder/bangu effort to coax local clubs to do their work for them. That counter has been stuck at 0. Here's to peace and quiet.

The Thunder fray was not Bangu driven. The Thunder approach Bangu every year trying to convice them to be the Thunder's youth academy. Any reasonable person would have to stop and listen to any reasonable ideas about improving youth development. But alas, another year will come an go.

12:30PM, yet you still bring MA up. The guy has boycotted the blogs and yet he still has power over you. lol Try to get life, buddy.

As for the Thunder deal, it was a grand idea that has come and gone in it's original form(s). MYSA and the CCs banded together to put an end to the effort. I predict it will resurface in the coming years and, now that people are aware of the general idea of it and more attune to thinking outside of the box, it will stand a greater likelihood of succeeding at that future date. It will be far from a slam dunk though. Kudos to those who gave the pipe dream a go.

Now, in promise to the CCs, MYSA will now lead elite player development in this state through a revamped ODP program. Lord help us all...

12:31, you were obviously up too late.

MYSA voiced its opposition to the proposed Thunder plan due to the fact that the Thunder were only looking at working with a handful of CCs and generally ignoring the rest.

I'm not happy either with how MYSA is run, but they got this one right. MYSA has spent tons of money over the years supporting the Thunder--funds that are generated from ALL MYSA players. If the Thunder are going to cherry-pick a few local partners and ignore the other clubs, they can do without the MYSA money.

6:44AM, you don't get it. MYSA is looking at the Thunder proposal as black or white. Either we (MYSA) support the Thunder youth system, or we don't. If we do, the Thunder gets money. If we don't, the Thunder gets squat. That is so narrow minded, but you likely have a position within MYSA so this is par for the course in my book with the recent trend of decisions coming out of that office.

MYSA needs to separate the Thunder's youth system idea from the Thunder that takes the field as Minnesota's professional team. My kid will never take part in the Thunder academy. Yet I support pro soccer in our state (as should you) for the benefit it brings our kids and the game itself.

I'll throw this our there - Is MYSA's primary duty to their member clubs or to the players/game of soccer itself? If its the former, they will never support an elite system in this state. They cannot for this would anger too many clubs. If MYSA is here for the players/for the game, then they should be working for all players; from rec to elite.

4:05, yes I do support the Thunder and have for many years (probably long before you did) and no, I do not work for MYSA.

You are right, MYSA will probably never support an elite system in this state. The overall state of youth soccer in this state is sorry because there is no leadership and it will remain that way indefinitely until a group breaks away from MYSA and does their own thing.

The folks in St. Louis figured it out and decided that the real competition is programs in other states when they took the bold step to merge a bunch of clubs together. I am sure there are some very pissed parents in that part of the world, but the people running it had the courage to see that if they wanted to truly move ahead, they had to do this.

We don't have the courage here because (GASP!) some parent is going to be mad that his/her kid did not make the top team.

the structure of the MYSA is antiquated. It should be split up to function in 3 separate operating units that share some common resources (accounting, administration, ect). The different units should be Rec Division, Competitive Division, Elite Division. Right now it is one unit trying to serve too many market channels and serving them all on average at best.

Of course someone better write out a proposal and submit it to the once a year AGM if any action will ever be taken on such a plan.

Anon 4:05 - MYSA's focus is clearly the clubs. The DOC has verbalized this and made it quite clear. Paraphrased: "The players and teams are not out our clients, the clubs are..." With that mentality, it is difficult to believe that MYSA cares about player development! What do a bunch of soccer moms and dads know about developing players anyway?

Agree with tomass. MYSA has always tried to be all things to all people and end up doing everything half-assed. They should definitely focus on rec, C3 and C2. It will not be MYSA the one to make the split - it will take an outside group to do it.

Given that mentality (Paraphrased: "The players and teams are not out our clients, the clubs are..." ) is it any wonder why Ian Barker walked away from MYSA?

"Euthanize their own blogs" is a comprehensible statement. Look at where technology has brung us.
