12:21 Meant Centennial Boys. But, if a team is well balanced, excuses shouldn't be needed.

Anonymous said...

What has east ridge been doing all year??

Anonymous said...

Beating teams that are better than them.

Anonymous said...

And using the injuries as the excuse for losing to teams that are worse than they are

Anonymous said...

You haven't seen any East Ridge excuses on this blog. We just let the MA haters on this blog put them out there for us. East Ridge lost games because we were outplayed. Coaches, players, and parents all agree.

Anonymous said...

I don't recall anyone using injuries or illness as an excuse. I do think that injuries and/or illness can be a factor in the performance of any team. If your starting quarterback is out with an injury, or your best pitcher, would that not impact the overall performance of the team? Some may say no, not if you have a deep bench, but if a key player on any team is out, unless you have someone equally as talented to fill in at that position, it will make an impact. There have been multiple discussions of key players being injured on this blog, such as BP, and how it could impact the overall outcome of the team. If MS from Stillwater is out today, and they lose, will that be a factor? I think so. Is it an excuse? I guess that is in the eye of the reader.

Anonymous said...

Of course injuries can be a huge factor in a high school team's success. These are not professional teams with organizations compensated to have good backup players in place.
Look what happened to WBL after the Eagan game. Their best attacker was injured. They remained competitive, but lost to the other top teams after that. It is hard to replace a 20+ goal scorer, especially one that also sets up teammates. If Rosemount had lost SP, they would have been very average - with her they were a good team.

If a HS is fortunate enough to have enough good players in their district to replace star players (Wayzata could have done so last year, for example), or enough star players to continue at the top level (Woodbury last year after losing CS before the tournament), then they are exactly that - fortunate. If not, they are unfortunate.

It is not whining, and it is not making excuses - just factual.

ER parents at games are unbearable

Anonymous said...

do u think the 2 coaches have anything to do with it

Anonymous said...

Most teams have unbearable parent supporters - club and HS. What planet are you on?

Anonymous said...

Yes, all parents are unbearable at games

Anonymous said...

You mean Elk River, right? When we played them at home, a mom was yelling out of the announcer's booth at the top of her lungs. Other parents cheered when one of our players was injured. Really - very sad and unnecessary.

Anonymous said...

East Ridge. Making excuses for losing games (too many injuries), and obnoxious catty remarks directed toward other players and parents during games. Ugly. Very unAbboudian.

Boys AA, again because that's all that matters
1AA: 2v5 (Lakeville North v Lakeville South
2AA: 2v4 (Jefferson v Eden Prairie)
3AA: 1v2 (Apple Valley v. Eagan)
4AA: 1v2 (Stillwater v Woodbury)
5AA: 2v5 (Spring Lake Park v Mounds View)
6AA: 1v2 (Southwest v Wayzata)
7AA: 1v2 (Anoka v Duluth East)
8AA: 1v4, 2v3 (they're a little slower up north)

So long to Northfield, Edina, and Maple Grove, number 1 seeds that were shown the door today. Edina, the final #4 ranked team, played one top ten team, tying. Northfield, unranked, played one top ten team, tying. Maple Grove, the final #7 ranked team, played one top ten team, tying.

Anonymous said...

OK, due to all of your requests, here are the girls AA, because AA is all that matters:
1AA: 3v5 (Northfield v Lakeville South)
2AA: 1v2 (Eden Prairie v Jefferson)
3AA: 1v2 (Eagan v Apple Valley)
4AA: 1v2 (Stillwater v Woodbury)
5AA: 1v2 (Centennial v Maple Grove)
6AA: 1v2 (Wayzata v Minnetonka)
7AA: 1v3 (Duluth East v Anoka)
8AA: 1, 2, 3, 5 (they're slow too)

So long Owatonna, the only #1 to not make it to the final

Anonymous said...

Congrats to Jefferson, Eden Prairie, Apple Valley, Eagan, Stillwater, Woodbury, Wayzata, Duluth East and Anoka, who have boys and girls in the finals.

Looks like a Stillwater/Woodbury double-header at Pony stadium this Tuesday. Good luck getting a tiket for that one. Boys and Girls for Jefferson/EP, AV/Eagan and Anoka/Duluth East will play at different stadiums.

Anonymous said...

Wrong on that, 11:20. AV/Eagan boys and girls both play at Burnsville. Why a neutral field? Seems not fair to the top seed...

Anonymous said...

Who do you like in the 8A boys semis? I think Hillcrest/Pelican Rapids should take the first game, but I'm not sure between Bemidji and Sartell-St. Steven in the other one.

Anonymous said...

You have to favor Sartell-St. Steven, if for no other reason than the load of hurt they put on Becker in the quarterfinal.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, but don't forget JR was out for Becker for that game. At least I think.

Anonymous said...

JR was out. He was lost to a hard foul from TH from St John's Prep in the prior game. Cheap shot.

Anonymous said...

You obviously weren't there. It wasn't a cheap shot, and it wasn't TH. It was HM, and it was a 50-50 ball. The ref blew the call, and ultimately the game

Anonymous said...

Not a cheap shot my foot. Cleats up at the knees? What game were you watching?

Beckerbacker said...

Sounds like someone's dad is a bit defensive.

Beckerbackerbacker said...

Or someone's mom. haha

Floyd B Olson said...

Where is Becker, Beckerbacker? (or Beckerbackerbacker)?

Beckerbackerbacker said...

Between Big Lake and Clear Lake on 10/25, Floyd.

Nani said...

Do they have soccer up there? haha

Anonymous said...

Does Becker and Sartell even have a soccer field? Oh yeah, that's right they have a soccer field once the corn is harvested! Although old corn fields makes for a very bumpy pitch!

Anonymous said...

hahahahaha, very good 1219.

Anonymous said...

You know how they have those "breathalyzers" installed on cars and the driver needs to blow on it and if it registers any alcohol level the car doesn't start? Maybe they can be installed on computers which would have prevented the 11:34pm-12:21am posts (we're only talking one or two machines....). Either that or their parents need to pay better attention to what their kids are doing.

Anonymous said...

Stillwater only 2-1 over CDH, and Centennial only 2-1 over Maple Grove yesterday?

Got to be some nervous parents coming into Tuesday night's games...

Anonymous said...

You got that right! Not sure of the name of the Maple Grove goalie, but that girl was on FIRE! Her vertical jump is phenomenal. A little show boating, but she was all over it. Both Centennial goals were on PKs. Smart move by the coach to move BR up top in OT, which resulted in a nasty foul in the box leading to the game winning PK. Centennial needs to step it up significantly if they want to advance, and they know it.

Anonymous said...

C-DH looked stronger near the end of the season. The games they lost were good contests. I admire the way their coach has them playing and shutting down a lot of the passing in the middle by the opposing team. I've seen them play twice and I enjoyed them both times. C-DH had the SAHS girls stymied for most of the game. SAHS had too much talent in the end and SAHS earned a couple of late goals. I watched the boys game first. Kick the ball and chase. Boring. I sat behind some parents that bad mouthed the officials the entire game. Their ignorance of LOTG and one sided view tarnished the game experience.

Anonymous said...

what LOTG did the Stillwater parents ignore, 159? two-handed pushes in the back? Elbows thrown after the play moved on? Anything else?

CDH (boys) were thugs.

Mister Football said...

Most people think that if Essien was healthy, Ghana would have made the semis.

Anonymous said...

Who's Essien? Does he play for Prarie Seeds and is he any good?

Anonymous said...

So, which #1s will fall tomorrow?

Boys
3AA: Apple Valley (v Eagan)
4AA: Stillwater (v Woodbury)
6AA: Southwest (v Wayzata)
7AA: Anoka (v Duluth East)

Girls
2AA: Eden Prairie (v Jefferson)
3AA: Eagan (v Apple Valley)
4AA: Stillwater (v Woodbury)
5AA: Centennial (v Maple Grove)
6AA: Wayzata (v Minnetonka)
7AA: Duluth East (v Anoka)

Mister Football said...

So when are those allegations against Prairie Seeds Academy going to come out? Anonymous said they would come out when the games mattered, which is very classy.

Anonymous said...

Very soon.

Mister Football said...

Great. This will be the most entertaining MN Soccer occurrence since those U12 MTA girls threw the game.

I wonder what the crime will be. Offseason coaching? Age of players? Player recruiting? Money from agents? Connections to BALCO?

Anonymous said...

Dental records.

Anonymous said...

what are these allegations about for PSA? i knew their season was too good to be true.....

Anonymous said...

Apple Valley has a better record.

But PSA has better players.

Anonymous said...

9:16am, I think all of the boys #1's will be fine, but on the girls side only EP will role on easily every other match has a very real chance for upset.

I'm gonna say that Woodbury and Anoka both pull it off for sure, plus one other upset.

Anonymous said...

I like WDB boys over STW. WDB is dangerously weak in back, but EM will be on a mission to end his career on a high note. He will get his team to the Dome; unfortunately, I think STW is the only team that can beat AV due to their amazing defense.

Anonymous said...

PSA could beat Apple Valley...if they set up a friendly.

Anonymous said...

I'm not a MSHSL rules expert, but is this OK?

IK on the PSA roster with YD as coach
IK on NPSL Twin Stars roster with YD as coach (see link)

http://www.minnesotatwinstars.com/crbst_8.html

Personally, I think the whole "can't coach the same kid outside of high school" is not necessarily a good idea, but imagine this scenario:
MTA opens up a charter school similar to PSA (meaning MN education system helps with the funding)
The top level soccer players in the MSP area enroll
RZ or MC is the athletic director
Academics is stressed, but PhysEd, etc... is dry land training and skill development.
Think there would be a bit of an uproar on this blog?

Anonymous said...

3:15pm. MTA could stand for Minnesota Teachers Academy. They already have the uniform. They just need a building and some teachers! Poof ~ you have a charter school!

Anonymous said...

PSA - AV 3 common opponents. Lakeville So., St. Paul Acad. & Eagan
AV 3-0-0 record GS 10 GA 0 = +10; PSA 2-0-1 record GS 12 GA 2 +10;

Seems like it would be a nice match between the two.

Anonymous said...

I heard some refs were giving the PSA players green cards instead of yellow or red. Are those the allegations?

Anonymous said...

MTA has no money to open a school...(or, frankly, to run a USSF academy). How do you pay teachers when everyone is on a scholarship?

Anonymous said...

A solid team that plays strong team defense will beat PSA. PSA tied a weak Eagan team. AV would win.

Anonymous said...

4:12,
How much money does it take to be a USSF Academy club?
Do you know? If so...how?
Apparently USSF interviewed MTA and made decision they met all the criteria.
Am I missing something?

Anonymous said...

Eagan is 15-2-3 and ranked 3rd in the state, yet they are called a "weak" team. Does that mean that only Apple Valley and Southwest are not "weak" teams?

My money would be on PSA over AV.

Anonymous said...

It is unbelievable that PSA were approved by the MSHSL in the first place. Every single member of the team was recruited by Youssef, many players on that team are above the legal age limit, and they train year round together. I have seen Isaac and Gerald being coached by Youssef during the offseason. Also you would have to be absolutely mental to argue that Isaac is under 19 years old by now. IMO, Prarie Seeds should be immidiatel disqualified for the many violations they have been a part of, and the state tournament should once again be fair for all schools involved.

Anonymous said...

Well what can you do about their ages? They have documentation that says they are young enough. If they are going to be penalized, it will be for the recruiting or illegal coaching. I would be surprised if they are penalized this year, but I do agree that things would be much more fair and entertaining without them.

Anonymous said...

I'm with MTA and no one on our team is on scholarship!

Mister Football said...

I'd say the most entertaining thing in HS soccer this year has been Prairie Seeds Academy.

I especially enjoyed the quote from the video, "We just kind of embarrass them and show them how to play soccer."

I don't know how anyone can think their players are too old when a) those kids have been in MYSA since they were twerps and b) we've seen the likes of LeBron James and Josmer Altidore in HS athletics.

Anonymous said...

Ok yeah they do embarrass teams and play better soccer, but what do you expect? They recruited every individual on that roster. If you let me recruit fifteen kids from all over the state I am sure we would embarrass everyone too, but fact of the matter is, it is against the rules and is not fair to other schools who work with the players who happen to attend that school, and clearly you haven't seen half of the players on PSA if you are truly trying to argue that they are their birth certificates are valid.

Anonymous said...

And with all that they only managed a tie against the "weak" Eagan team?

Valley wins on FIFA 2010.

Anonymous said...

I think the only #2 girls team that wins tonight is Woodbury in a repeat of their earlier 2-0 win.

The only game that could be considered an upset would be Jeff over EP, but it won't happen.

Anonymous said...

9:08 obviously your child is on a white, grey etc. team. Those teams don't GET the scholarships, they FUND the scholarships! The Blue teams are the ones who actually get your money which funds their scholarship programs.

5AA
I'll take underdog MV over Centennial 2-1

A lot of the private schools recruit players in a lot of sports: Holy Angels, Benilde, Cretin, Hill Murray.

And everyone knows about Hopkins University's hoops team. Weren't those guys too old too (Royce White)?

I remember when IK was 13, he was one of the scrawniest players on the field with toothpick legs. Nobody said anything then.

Anonymous said...

IK was one of the scroniest players around because he played U16 as a "13 year old".

AA Handicapper said...

Here you go Class AA Guy

NF 3-0 over Lakeville South

EP 2-1 over Jefferson

AV 2-1 in an upset of Eagan

Stillwater 2-0 over Woodbury

Centennial 1-0 over MV

Anoka 2-1 over Duluth East

Wayzata 2-1 over Tonka in a shoot out

Elk River gets one more game

Anonymous said...

He played U14 with Wings as a scrawny 13 yr old. I'd say he looks, sounds and plays like a normal 17 yr old. He's just better than most of the bad 17 yr olds that pollute MN Soccer. Remember, 99% of HS players won't get a sniff at playing college soccer. If IK stays healthy and continues to develop, he could play beyond college soccer.

Boys Soccer

Blm Jefferson has beaten EP University 3 years in a row in the section finals.

EP has a huge youth club. Blm rarely competes higher than C2. EP has twice the student body as Jefferson. EP plays 19 players each night. Jefferson might go 13 deep.

What is going on here?

Anonymous said...

Jefferson has at least 3 top level players from MTA plus the Bloomington club has a nice team at U17.
Between that group of players they have a very solid HS team.
Don't forget Storlien is probably the best soccer coach in the state which sure doesn't hurt.

Anonymous said...

But MTA is crap. And DS doesn't develop players. And it's been 3 consecutive years.

PSA violations that can be proven: IK was coached by YD when not allowed both for Blackhawks and Twin Stars, PSA practiced into the winter and scrimmaged shattuck after HS season was over, PSA recruits players,YD has made phone calls to the homes of two players currently playing for a West suburban H.S. team asking them to play at PSA.

I personaly feel YD is a good coach but he is also a cheat and has been doing it for a long time, controversy follows him, he played college players in a tournament that had a cash prize yet told them it was OK for them to play, oh yes try to find the proof he ever played for any national team oh and his own wiki page does not count, read the junk on his Twin Stars page and you will see the worlds biggest self promoter. The sad thing is that the trueth will come out and PSA school will be left with a black eye.

I will be fileing my proof after the season is over and I have buttoned down a few more things I have heard. I suggest anyone else with violations that can be proven file with the MSHSL. The kids at PSA are not at fault and are good players, but YD needs to go until he follows the rules.

Anonymous said...

The strongest (and most consistent) high-school teams draw players from a single strong, local club. Eden Prairie, Wayzata and Stillwater girls draw primarily from EDP, WYZ and SCV. Apple Valley, Jefferson and Stillwater boys draw primarily from VLY, BLM and SCV. The entire Stillwater boys team plays for very good SCV teams. Nothing against MTA, but the all-star nature of their model doesn't lend itself to enabling their players to lead their high-school teams to state championships. Maybe in Class A, where one player can take a team all the way, but not in AA.

Anonymous said...

11:02 sounds like a frustrated Totino dad. Can't imagine Totino ever recruited a player. The stop the PSA movement should have started in August.

Anonymous said...

11:08 nope I am a coach in AA really have no horse in the race other than I hate adults that cheat and are bad role models. I got sick of hearing every coach I talk to tell me about the violations so I decided to step up to prove or disprove them and it did not take long to find proof I will tell you that. I will file when the season is done and all my info is finalized.

Anonymous said...

The entire Stillwater boys team are very well coached. The girls team has some players from scv u18, the 17 s only have 1, the rest are from all over.

Anonymous said...

1AA needs revamping. LS at 1-7-1 in South Suburban goes to State.

8AA could use a a couple more Metro teams as well. Elk River gets a free ride at 6-4 in their mediocre conference.

Anonymous said...

Wayzata 5 Tonka 1

Anonymous said...

You need 4 pansies for the 4 ranked teams to beat. Everyone knows State starts at the Dome, i.e. the Final Four.

Anonymous said...

AA boys ranked teams will be 1 Apple Valley, 2 Southwest, 3 Stillwater and 4 Jefferson. They will all win, leading to semis of AV/Jefferson and SW/Stillwater at the Dome. Those should be some good games.

Anonymous said...

12:00 short memory- last yr unseeded Wayzata and Northfield won first rd games Wyz to the Finals and NFD gave AV a scare. It's next to impossible for one player to take a team all the way in A or AA. Not PY last year at Totino nor IK or GB at PSA this yr...oh that 2 on the same team

Anonymous said...

11:04,
Jon Stillwell from Bangu/MTA led the Bloomington Jefferson boys HS team to the State Championship in 2005.
Only a few starters on that team played in the Bloomington club, most were playing on other clubs premier teams.
Stillwell was Mr. Soccer that year.
You have a nice theory but it isn't valid.

Anonymous said...

630 AM
I think Jefferson won State in 2004. You just have it wrong by 1 year. No big deal.

Anonymous said...

Nearly all of the top players for Jefferson over the years end up playing for MTA or other premier clubs.

Anonymous said...

7:37,
Thats true most years but this year a lot of the Jefferson starters played for the Bloomington club's U17 premier team.
But I also know they have at least 3 key players who play on MTA "blue teams".
You have to give Jefferson's coaches a lot of credit. They have a very small school for "AA" and just keep going to State.
There's a lot to be said about tactical coaching because we know the HS season is too short to truly develop players.

For 2010 Boys, can somebody provide a Starting XI:

-by position
-in either a 4-4-2, 3-4-3, or 3-5-2
-provide their school and class year
-just based on who are the top 11 boys in the state for 2010
-so it will look like this:

G- MJ, 12, Hutchinson
D- JD, 12, Farmington
D- JM, 11, Eveleth
D- TT, 12, Austin
M- CK, 12, Central
M- JS, 10, Hill Murray
M- PR, 12, Brainerd
M- RY, 12, Hibbing
F- WV, 12, Delano
F- LH, 11, Stillwater
F- YE, 12, Benilde

How did MV bring Centennial to PK's? Did they bunker in the whole game, or was in an honest match?

Very suprised with the results as Centennial had put up some big offensive #'s all year long.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Prairie Seeds play Fridley on 10/22 @ Spring Lake Park. So I don't think they could have failed to advanced yet.

Anonymous said...

MSHSL site has PSA, MN online scores had Totino for awhile last night - I guess we should believe the State site.

Anonymous said...

Seeds has outscored their playoff opponents 16-0.

Why even play the games?

That is, why do their opponents even play the sport if they're going to defend that poorly?

Anonymous said...

Stillwater girls were noticeably quicker to the ball last night. Mids and forwards were swarming. Unlike their first meeting (a Woodbury 2-0 win), Woodbury had hardly any pressure against a suspect Stillwater defense.

Boys? Now that's another story. Stillwater scored in the first five minutes and then played defense the rest of the way. I was surprised Woodbury did not score, as Stillwater made no effort to possess the ball after scoring. If I learned anything about the Stillwater team (my first time watching them), it is they can really defend.

Also, there was a great, big crowd at the game. I hope all the other games at this stage are generating this kind of attendance.

PS I'm proud of my (Woodbury) DD for nearly making it back to state after losing so many great players to graduation last spring. Well done, girls!

Sure it's easy for the PSA boys to have 3.5 GPA, they're using a 2nd grade curriculum!

So, now that most of us are in the "just wait until next year" boat ... one of the most important factors dictating a H.S. team's success is the number of returning experienced players.

In the Girls AA, here's how the top teams stack up in terms of number of upperclassmen (juniors) returning from this year’s varsity rosters:
EP-26%
Centennial-33%
Stillwater-18%
Woodbury-55%
Eagan-55%
Wayzata-9%
Edina-36%
Anoka-25%
Duluth East-45%
Jefferson-38%
East Ridge-27%
Mounds View-32%

Average should be around 40%; teams better than this are well setup for next year, significantly lower will struggle. Obviously doesn't take into consideration player strength, but should be at least an early indicator. Looks like this year's powerhouses will be no more.

I've got my early money on Woodbury to return to prominence on the girls side next year. Eagan could also be a force.

Anonymous said...

9:37 SAHS vs WB, very competitive and well played. Strong defense by WB until MS took a shot from the right, maybe 35-40 yds. I was sitting in line with the shot. It looked high and at the right post. Then it curved left and down into the top of the goal. GK would have had to make a miracle save. WB has some good scoring opportunites early but the defense for SAHS really stepped it up and played great. N one has really been able to contain Molly, the RM for a full game and late in, she beat WB, taking the ball deep into the right corner, then crossing beautifully. The opposite M shot, the ball was deflected and Molly who had histled back to the goal was credited with the chip in.

Anonymous said...

Excellent analysis on returning juniors. Woodbury is a perfect example of a team that is "rebuilding" this year (if you can call it that) and will be great next year. Stillwater is an example of a team that is all about this year (though they have a few studs coming back).

Woodbury will be great next year.
