«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 209 of 209I wonder who will pick the Star Tribune POY now that Barker is gone from MYSA?
Bunburry from SSM should have been Mr. Soccer, Metro player of the year and Pioneer Press player of the year!
i heard that Colin Monasterio got first team all american..... any thoughts on this? if he deserved it or not?
CM AND KP are the 2 recipients from Minnesota. In fact, CM was also named All american last year.Paul Grandstrand was the other all american last year and all three were on the U18 premier Boys Wings team. This is a recognition that goes beyond Minnesota and the fact that all three were regional ODP pool players proves they had to earn this recognition.Congrats to both KP AND CM!
Didn't that team finish 2nd at U18 state cup last year? I don't think Grandstrand was ever a Regional team players. Barker essentially picks the MN kids for the regional pool and also makes the recommendations for all american. If anything it shows the overly tight relationship between MYSA and the Wings.
Wings U18 did lose to Bangu FC in the state cup championship game last year but had done well in regionals the two times they have represented Minnesota. As the U15 champs they went 2-1-0 and as the u17 champs had 2-0-1, both times barely failing to advance.Bangu U 18 lost all their games in regionals ( one game by as much as 5-0.Last year, Bangu was the better team on that day while Wings had struggled to field a complete team since Disney,Premier regional league and the state cup.Barker has helped put Minnesota in the region 2 radar for D1 opportunities but the boys selected to the region pool and team still have to compete for a spot.Paul Grandstrand only made the state pool but has been recognized as the IVY LEAGUE rookie goalie for Brown. At state cup, he played as a defender so Pat mclain (backup goalie) could get a chance to be recruited(Pat is now playing for Cal Poly D1 in California. The U18 WINGS Boys were never handed anything by Ian so just give credit where credit is due.
Way to go Pat and Paul, both great players deserving of everything that comes their way.
I don't think the previous posted was saying the Wings 18s were handed anything. According to the records you quoted, they were a very good team and did represent MN well at regionals. The comment was ment to outline Ian's influence. He picked the all regional and national players from all the clubs, not just Wings.
Congrats to Paul Grandstrand on an outstanding season!
Wow- it's hard to remember you people are talking about children, it sounds so much like you're judging cattle.
