2007 Boys Sections

Some highlights and predictions for the 2007 Boys Soccer Sections. I don’t know all of the teams and section well, but I’m taking a shot. Best of luck to all the teams, coaches, fans and parents!

Click on the section links below to see the MSHSL brackets and scores!

1AA - #1 Lakeville North – LN is the class of this average section and should win it.
2AA - #1 Eden Prairie – only Edina in the final should make this section tough for EP. EP wins the final though.
3AA - #1 Apple Valley – one of the toughest sections – AV and Burnsville in the final and it should be a barn burner – Eastview could be the surprise in this section
4AA - #1 Hill Murray – this section demonstrates the parity in soccer this year – no great teams here, but the top 5-6 are capable of winning it. Toss up.
5AA - #1 Osseo – surprised Osseo gets the top seed. This is a strong section and any of the top 5 teams could win it. I predict #3 Champlin Park wins it.
6AA - #1 Wayzata – probably the strongest section with any of the top 5 teams capable of winning it and doing well at state. Even though Wayzata has been scoring goals of late, I predict St. Louis Park wins it.
7AA - #1 Anoka – probably the best job of seeding by the coaches. Only Anoka, Coon Rapids and Blaine have a shot to win it. I say the semi-winner between Coon Rapids and Blaine beats Anoka in the final.
8AA - #St. Cloud Apollo – Traditionally out state teams get clobbered at state. Apollo should win the section.

1A - #1 Rochester Lourdes – this is a big section with 16 teams, but I can see anybody putting up much of a fight against Lourdes.
2A - #1 Mankato West – looks like a Mankato West v Mankato East final.
3A - #1 Blake School – I guess this is a good section for Class A, but really not many good teams. Blake and SPA should get to the final.
4A - #1 St. Paul Humboldt – what a great season for the boys from Humboldt! Congrats! This section has 4 good Class A teams in Humboldt, St. Bernards, Mahtomedi and South St. Paul. I say Mahtomedi over South St. Paul in the final.
5A - #1 Totino Grace – has teams that have historically been strong Class A schools, but not this year. This section is tough to figure out. Even #5 Mpls Edison has a chance to win it, although it should be Totino…don’t bet any money on this one.
6A - #1 Benilde – should be Benilde, Orono and Breck are the class of this section. I predict Orono in an upset in the final over Benilde.
7A - #1 Duluth East – hands down Duluth East rolls through the final.
8A - #1 Hillcrest Lutheran – just like AA, the winner of this section probably will not fair well at the state tournament.

All right! I love it when non-conference teams compete at state. How many teams from Lake and Northwest have played each other? They are two huge conferences that rarely play due to proximity. I guess we'll see. I don't see a blowout, as most teams have taken care of those issues by now, but you never know.

By conference:
Lake: AV and EP
Northwest: Anoka and MG

I wonder how close the vote was on MG vs Hill-Murray for the 5-6 seed. Could be one point. Perhaps Anoka gave MG a better seed, and that was the difference? (Anoka and MG had a tough game this year.)

Ditto on the blowout comment. MV lost to MG 2-5 last year. They beat them 1-0 at state.

St. Cloud 2 - Anoka 1
EP 4 - MG 1
Hill 1 - Wayzata 1 (Hill wins shootout)
AV 4 - Rochester 0

Watched Anoka play CR on TV this weekend. Also say the Anoka vs CP game. I'd have to say, I was not impressed with Anoka. Both CP was on their spiral down and looked good. CR historically, not a very good team and they looked competitive.

I know. Anoka the #1 seed? I guess they haven't lost, which is pretty tough to hold agains't them. Although, I don't think St. Cloud, the #8 seed, has lost either. Interesting dynamic at the seed meeting! Outstate get the shaft?

I'd say the scores were high.

Av 3-0.
EP 2-1
HM 2-1
Anoka 1-0.

I'm thinking Av in the final, but no EP.

Anoka 3 St. Cloud 0
EP 3 MG 1
Hill 1 Wayzata 0
AV 2 Mayo 0

hill murray is good, but i dont think they are good enough to beat wayzata

Something will be happening down on that feild. something very bad. That people will run for it.

I'm thinking they might be a grammar terrorist. You can identify their posts by the horrific spellings and sentences.

what do u guys think is the game to watch for class AA?

Have seen MG play several games this year - Champlin, Anoka, Andover, Elk River - will agree that they are very inconsistent. However, they tied Hill Murray, Beat St. Louis Park and only lost to Anoka 2-1 in overtime - I would not discredit them - I think Eden Prairie's DEFENSE is going to be their biggest obstacle (not their goalie) If they can find their offense and learn to shoot, Eden Prairie should really be concerned -

Good luch to all the teams - Enjoy!@

If I had my pick I would go to the Wayzata vs. Hill Murray game - However, if the rankings are correct the (4)Eden Praire vs. (5) Maple Grove should be pretty eventful - I believe their keeper (MG) and senior midfielder are quite the players to watch.

Obviously the Wayzata/HM game and the EP/MG game. Go to the one that isn't 45 minutes away. (I'll be at Hopkins)

why is everybody overlooking rochester mayo? they are a solid team that gives up very few goals. nobody is even considering them to beat av...

Anonymous said...

its not a bad thing being the underdog

Anonymous said...

what teams are the UNDERDOGS?

Anonymous said...

#6 from MG could take any of you one on one.

you all say Maplge grove got luckey but who beat the teams that number 1 osseo was supposed to beat? yeah we'll see how it all goes down in state.

here comes your classic story of the underdogs. watch out EP.

Your lucky breaks are over, MG. Now we'll see what you got. One shot...

# 6 is David Scheller and he should have been recognized as an all state or an honorable mention since he is one of the top 3 players in the NW conference. He has carried this MG team into the state tournament, but he cannot do it alone. If he goes one on one against EP, the score will be EP 5- MG 0.

anon 8:29 #6 is good, but alot of other really good players got shafted around the state. That's how it goes in AA when you hafto include kids from rochester, brainerd, st. cloud etc.

#6 gets the last laugh because his team is still playing. to quote darren sharper, "look at me now... look at me now"

anybody have any thoughts on A games

Anonymous said...

hell no!!

Anonymous said...

SSP will roll in A

Anonymous said...

what about blake? undefeated and virtually unscored upon.

Anonymous said...

Who has Blake played? The A season is odd because the field of talent is so much smaller. there are always a few decent schools, but it drops off quickly. Not as many good games as the AA teams. (top 15 or 16 are all pretty good in AA, not so in A)
