2007 HS Soccer

Hard to believe that captains practice is starting in the next week or so. Time for some high school soccer talk. With the relative parity last year, will this year provide one or two dominant teams? Who are your favorites to win State for AA and A? Who will be the surprise teams? Who are the favorites for Mr. Soccer? Note the links for getting to the coach's site, schedules and stats and the State high school league.

anon 12:24 yeah can a lot change in a year - lol, somebody can taste your true love for a particluar team and individuals. do you have insider infor on something that you want to share?

rock with HS soccer for now and hold your 70/30 beef for traveling. you will have your moment to vent.

Yonga is bad for local club soccer. He is an ego that collects players to assemble an all-star group. What an amazing youth coach! Many parents drink the cool-aid he is selling. That is, until their kid no longer has "that special drive within," i.e. aren't fast enough/big enough/strong enough.

The guy has no loyalty to any club or player. Unless you are good and can pass the ball to his kid. Oh, and if you could also go to Totino and pass the ball to my kid? Ever wonder how Totino got to be a soccer power a few years ago? He had individual counseling sessions with the players on his all-star summer team...

save your jabs for travel soccer and let's get back to HS soccer.
how did it change so quickly?

I agree you man. see how everywhere he has been he is making them champions. that is not good for minnesota. he is so bad, the man should not be involved in soccer. He is so bad he met with castro. He is so bad he met with coach greg ryan. He is so bad - al queda invited him to have sessions with them. he is so bad, he wants to over throw the government, we have to stop this man. he is sooo bad, his players are asked to practice when other kids are at valley fair - we don't want that in minnesota.

my son is weak, not big, can't run, not fast enough and how can he ever play for the guy - never. my son is the slowest kid in school and plays no sports in MN. My son went to tryout and was not selected and he does not care for my kid.

if your son is like mine, we don't have a chance with this guy.

He is so bad man - what do we do with our weak, slow, kids? we have no where to go.

what do we do now?

Anonymous said...

anon 1:32 - you must be season ticketholder with MN vikings, gophers (football), and t-wolves. Let's lose all our games and be loyal MN fans. develop weak players and call it building for the future - as in t-wolves every year is a rebuilding year.

did you son play on one of those teams?

call me packer guy but, trust me we like winners in GB

Anonymous said...

LOL cool aid? where is the stand-I'll buy some.

Anonymous said...

It's pretty tough to compare professional sports with a U14 soccer team. (I realize they are older now.) I'm a fan of winning, but at what cost? Where is the fun in recruiting talented kids and using them for a short time? Try developing them!

My kids are young. 5 and 2. Must you assume that my kids didn't make the team because I don't approve of the idea behind the Super Eagles? That's simple. I know kids who have been screwed by the Yonga machine. They are kids, not pros, not 17 year-olds.

Back to HS soccer. I know they switched the sections around a bit--does this mean that Eagan will need to play a real team in sections this year?! The semi-distant surburbs like Eagan and Elk River got a free pass for many years.

Anonymous said...

Anon 2:15 You forgot the Twins! Oh wait, they do develop players...

Anonymous said...

anon 2:28 sorry I assumed you will not be on a tough team. why are you so concerned about other's kids screwed - you must be a saint trying to solve all of worlds problem and not your kids. must be a snoopy dog - get your kid to U14 and then worry. get a life with you kids take them to park and play whatever. forget about travel soccer for a while - you have your kids

are u coaching your kids yet?

now you feel elk river and eagan have been getting free passes - why all this bitterness?

PETA to form new group called PETS - Parents for Ethical Treatment of Soccerplayers). This meeting is open to all soccer stars of yesterday and tommorow whose soccer dreams could not be reached due to the evil "machine" - come to your first counseling session. cost $500 - make checks payable to PETA. We also accept visa, mastercard, British pounds since this is also easily converted.

Parents bring your own hard liquor and beers - we will drown our sorrows at the meeting and cry foul at our kids demise.

Wow, some inner issues going on there get a hold of Dr. Phil. Lets get back to reading some profound info on High School Soccer. What about Mounds View, Mahtomedi, Spring Lake Park, Woodbury. I am tired of hearing about the Cake Eaters of the West.

Anonymous said...

can same body tell me how far is south will go in section this year?

Anonymous said...

South will not go far. I think they lost both games to Southwest. Plus they have Edina to deal with. Woodbury is weak, as is Moundsview. I don't even know who is in Woodbury's section now. Moundsview is with Champlin and Osseo now, so that might be tough.

Let's relax on the club soccer stuff. I think this has been said 3 times now. Try to add something interesting. You can rip on club philosophies this spring!

Anonymous said...

Edina is not in South's section any longer. Edina is with Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, the Bloomington Schools, Chaska, Prior Lake and Shakopee.

Minneapolis South is with Buffalo, Hopkins, Southwest, Armstrong, Cooper, St. Louis Park and Wayzata.

Anonymous said...

eden prairie didnt get much help with the section changes, going from having to play AV in sections, to a very strong wayzata team this year. whoever wins this group probably will be rated number 1 in the state tourney.

Anonymous said...

Wayzata and EP are not in the same section

Anonymous said...

"Minneapolis South is with Buffalo, Hopkins, Southwest, Armstrong, Cooper, St. Louis Park and Wayzata."

OK--Cooper is 8th, Buffalo 7th, And after that, I wouldn't want to be in that section. Top two seeds are happy playing those teams. Anyone else has a tough game. I'm sure #1 will be Wayzata, Followed by Southwest? Then St. Louis Park, Hopkins, Armstrong, South. Of course, that's just a guess. But I know Southwest has only lost a few, plays weak teams (similar to SLP), and just handled a respectable Hopkins 3-1. I dunno. Thoughts?

Anonymous said...

I see that #4 Lakeville North plays #5 Eden Prairie tonight. Any ideas on the outcome of that game?

Also, who will be the eight section champions? Let's get some discussion going before the tourney takes place

Anonymous said...

Section 1 - Rochester ?
Section 2 - Eden Prairie
Section 3 - Apple Valley
Section 4 - ???
Section 5 - Champlin Park
Section 6 - Wayzata
Section 7 - Anoka
Section 8 - Wilmar

I'm having a hard time figure who is in Section 4. Wayzata seem to be doing quite nicely,(although I'm kinda rooting for Armstrong) EP should not have too much of a problem. Section 5 & Section 3 I think will be the sectional to watch. CP vs Osseo...has CP got it's groove back with a tie against Anoka? AV & Burnsville I think could be a real interesting game to watch also. Alot will depend on the weather and refs.

Anonymous said...

Section 4 will probably be between Hill-Murray and Stillwater. Woodbury and WBL are the other two possibilities.

Section 1 might be one of the Lakeville teams.

Section 8 could be Moorhead/Elk River/St. Cloud XX--I don't think Wilmar is in that section.

Anonymous said...

i dont see lakeville north not making it out of their section.... the best rochester team is supposedly century, and ln beat them 3-1 earlier int he year.

Anonymous said...

I just checked out the section assignments over at the MSHSL site. I'd agree with a previous poster--section 3 and 5 are the sections of death this year.

Another poster mentioned a few days ago about some teams get an easier time in sections. This might be true, but I like the outstate teams at State--a little diversity of sorts. Of course, it doesn't always work out, like the Anoka section.

Anonymous said...

LN is pretty strong their defense is solid. I agree it is hard to see a Rochester team coming out of that section. Tonights game LN vs. EP is going to be a classic both teams are fast and move the ball very well. This game will give us a good look at LN and also confirm or question EP as the favorite for the state title.

Anonymous said...

Yep--Anoka is going to lay waste to their section.

Anonymous said...

Ayub Baker at champlin is one of the best sophomores in the state. he should be up for awards in two years. whitney browne at osseo is also very good.

Anonymous said...

section 3 is by fr the hardest section. i dont see why people think section 5 is, though. an okay maple grove team, a solid champlin team, and an overrated osseo team. doesnt seem like too much competition

Anonymous said...

No doubt those 10th graders are good. But I've seen a lot of 10th graders that don't continue dominance of their peers--the other kids grow, etc... Don't worry about Mr Soccer 09!

Anonymous said...

Here, Here.
Section 5 a bit of toss up because Champlin Park lost their star forward and went into a tail spin for a bit. But I think with the Anoka tie signaled they've pulled it together. That is the only reason I would question Champlin Park and Osseo game.

Anonymous said...

MG beat andover 3-0. It's not bad.
MG is trying to catch up with the leading team in North subrebun confereance.

MG
10-5-1

Not bad.
We will see how is goes at the section for MG.

Anonymous said...

Lakeville North 1 EP 0

Anonymous said...

Edina 2 Minnetonka 0

Anonymous said...

apple valley/burnsville score anyone ?
the EP army of 20+ players constantly rotating were frustrated by lakeville north. penalty decided the game.

Anonymous said...

Burnsville 0 Apple Valley 0

Indicative of how wide open section 3 will be.

Anonymous said...

Centennial hammered Champlin Park as I watched in amazement as a team lost it's entire composure while the CP coach sat on the bench with never a word to say. At least five players could have easily been red carded if it were not for a compassionate referee who would show yellow with sections looming in the future. CP will lose in their first section game if they continue this classless play and conduct. Congratulations to Centennial for showing respect and not fall into the "attitude and dismal soccer" of CP. Now we all all know why NWSC has referees are required to fill out card for team conduct. Well done CP!

Anonymous said...

It is a pretty exciting time of the year. Hopefully all teams are peaking and all players are healthy. Good luck to all teams TG Parent. This is what HS Soccer is all about the game on the field. Again good luck.

Anonymous said...

That CP group is known for losing their heads. Also, the Centennial team shouldn't be overlooked. They are mostly 10th graders--so they are inconsistent.

Anonymous said...

wow...LN looks like they got lucky again, in the games they played a good team they got worked but won off of a garbage call, the EP game, AV game, and im not sure bout the EV game but EV had about 3x the shots lakeville had

Anonymous said...

ok i dont know why nobody is giving LN the respect they deserve, they are 16-0-1. Last night against EP they did score off a pk but, if they are getting worked like you say how come they arent scored on and hold on to the win? Game against AV game it was a clean goal and AV just tried to dive and get a pk. LN easly outworked them. And against EV they scored 2 good goals and only were scored on once, even if they are getting more shots against they are keeping them out thanks to their goalkeep Johnathan Glassman. Who I think is one of the best in the state. So i think its time that LN gets some respect.

Anonymous said...

If champlin park lost to cennternial MG has a chance to competer against any team. Maybe.

Deos any one know why in the hell champlin lost to Cenntenial?

Anonymous said...

Having never seen LN play, I have to say this: the "best" team doesn't always win--that's what makes this game fun! I say the best team is the team that gets it done--it doesn't matter how they do it, or how pretty, or how lucky, etc.

Sometimes the best team on paper is not the best team in the game.

Anonymous said...

The PK call was not garbage at the LN/EP Game. The EP player cut down the LN player from behind just inside the box. The call was so obvious it was not even funny. The ref did not do a good job, well it was boardline horrible. I agree with what was said above although LN may not have the next Mr. Soccer what they do is get the job done weather it is putting on a great offensive display (5-1 vs South) or grinding out a win (AV, EV, EP). I would say once is luck but 3 times is not just luck anymore.

Anonymous said...

yeah 16 wins or 17 wins and no losses or whatever it is, isnt luck. heck we'd have powerball winners from lakeville every week otherwise. i think they'll get to state but beyond that ???

Anonymous said...

anybody else heard rumblings that EV arent happy with coaching situation ? they've had a decent year haven't they ?

Anonymous said...

honestly, who ever is happy with the over all low level of coaching in high school?

Anonymous said...

Lakeville north has an odd, yet strong defense. they sit backa deep sweeper who clears everything out. this is the heart of their defense, and j glassman is not nearly the best goalie in the state. also, the av game was definitly controlled by av (anon 6:05) seeing as the shot differential was appalling.

Anonymous said...

IM TORN ON THIS BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT THE FIRST TO SAY about LN being outshot. (caps was a mistake). do they keep the ball and just pick their chances better than the opposition who take shots from anywhere ? more shots = more goals but not in this case. ive not seen the stats so im feeding of you guys, but imagine if LN were to have the same strike rate as AV and EP or whoever we are comparing them to, surely they would score more goals...

Anonymous said...

shots in av game 19-4

ep game: glassman 19 saves (not just shots) ep goalie (1 save 1 goal)
to have that big of a differential, LN couldnt have had the dominnant posession.

Anonymous said...

a delayed start saw Ln tie eagan 1-1. schlitter for eagan didnt look very interested if you ask me. lakeville missing their star forward although still threatened. eagan keeper looked strong. some poor officiating when they finally did show up - shame. another solid display by LN keeper and center mid.

Anonymous said...

The overall talent at Eagan was down this year.
The one junior was really the only threat they had.
With only 1 real threat they were an easy team to defend against.

Anonymous said...

This is the beauty of a blog... we are all anonymous and can make comments about whatever and whomever however often we want... it appears some out there might even be talking to themselves...

This is high school soccer and it always amazes me the depth we go into when dissecting these youth talents. Whoever wins the whole thing will have talent AND luck on their side. So saying a team isn't good because they get by with lucky victories, see LN CP and MG, or that they are a perrennial favorite and will take the title, see EP AV and Wayzata, is a bit redundant.

We will all have our issues with calls and how we think a game should have ended. However, we must remember that in sport, unless it is the NBA, we will never know exactly how anything will turn out... and that is why we love the game.

Good luck to all the teams as sections begin and may the "best" team win.

Anonymous said...

Anon 8:58,

Agreed! I can't wait to see October soccer, where every game counts! I seem to remember some fun upsets last year--didn't Wayzata lose to a #6 seed? (Minnetonka) Anything can happen in 80 minutes.

Anon 9:37 I bet Centennial (2) loses to Park Center (7) in the first game. I checked their record--up and down. I wonder if other coaches (MG, CP, MV) were afraid of voting for each-other. Come to think of it, didn't Centennial beat MG and CP? Interesting.

Not at CP parent but work with a guy whose kid goes to CP. From what he says, I doubt they will make it past their first game. Coaches aren't talking to each other, the players are fighting the parents have gone to the AD to request the coach be replaced and the AD doesn't seem inclinded to anything. Dad doesn't care if they win, he's just embarassed to be associated with the whole program.

sam hautman should definitly be all state. he has yet to let his mark in any game score (hes an outside d) and has anchored av's defenses to be one of the best in state.

Kyle Roach from LN he plays sweeper and I think he is very solid. He is one reason why LN is doing as well as they are. He is also an offensive threat with his throw in witch he has 6 assits off of.

Hasn't Roach played some midfield play also? Hautman is very solid back there the entire defense has been from AV along with the goalie only giving up 5. EP also has a solid defender not sure on a name or number though. What about AV sweeper, heard he has 6 goals, three from half. Glassman is a solid goalie as is av's.
