Big weekend for all of the MN teams to see what they are worth. Any early score reports?

Here is how they stack up so far by wins and losses (throwing the ties out):

Blackhawks 0-1-2 (.00 winning)
Champlin (CDA) 0-5-0 (.00 winning)
Edina 0-2-1 (.00 winning)
Monticello 0-4-0 (.00 winning)
PSA 0-2-1 (.00 winning)
Westside 0-3-0 (.00 winning)
Wings teams 4-13-1 (.24 winning)
Valley 2-4-0 (.33 winning)
Bangu 12-9-4 (.57 winning)
EP teams 6-4-1 (.60 winning)
Woodbury 3-0-0 (1.0 winning)

Congrats to Woodbury, EP and Bangu for a great start so far. Also clear the Champlin, Westside and Monticello probably don't belong there.

Heard from one of the Wings 18 boys parents that they went 0-3 again this weekend in MRL. I think that makes them 0-6. They must be missing some players or something as this is normally a quality team.

I don't see the Bangu U18 team in MRL results. Are they not playing the MRL this spring?

they arent goin MWL and just gettin ready for state cup, and they look very strong, gettin results against many semi pro teams

I don't see them (BNG U18) registered on the MYSA website.

The Bangu 18 Boys are playing in the Bangu U19 slot in the premier league.
They are age eligible at U18 and will play in the U18 bracket at State Cup.

lcfan you are correct about the Wings 18s they are 0-6 and -18 goal differential. Something is not right here as this is a talented group of players and well coached over the past couple of years.

Monticello U16 Boys are 0-6 in 1st Division of MWRL. They have scored 5 goals and given up 31.
Why would our state allow this team, a 1st year premier team moving up from C1 to enter the MWRL?
This is a total embarrassment to Minnesota soccer and steps should be taken so a travesty like this doesn't happen again.

incred - save your embarrassment for stuff that matters. These kids were poorly placed by their club, not the state. I have plenty to say about the state organization, but this one is on the club - they have, or should have, the knowledge of what is necessary for that level of play, and they blew it.

The kids should not be embarrassed, and neither should any of the rest of us. The club should take a really good look at itself, though, in entering a team in a competition in which they gave up almost 5 goals a game on average.

btw, i am not with this club, i am with one of the evil clubs. i just see no reason to lay this "embarrassment" thing on those players or the state. blast the coaches, blast the admins, but not the players.

anon 10:46,
The sponsoring state organization recommends to MWRL which teams are qualified for placement.
Yes, blame also belongs with the club and coach but ultimately it's up to MYSA to give a team the nod.
A club president can't authorize it, approval must come from the state association.

I talked to one of the parents from this team. They went into this knowing they would get slattered, but felt this was the cheapest and best way for them to get ready for State Cup. Given their objective to get ready for State Cup, I sure they feel they've been sucessful.

The MWL offers very inexpensive competition early in the season that teams cannot get inside MN or in tournaments.

I sometimes don't get why everyone gets so offended when a team reaches a bit beyond themselves. In most cases, I would rather see a teams/players push themselves rather than sitting back. I understand that getting beat bad isn't necessarily a good thing, but how will they find out unless they try???

Bangu U16 boys have impressive showing over the weekend. Still not finding the scoring that they really need, but it looks like a very solid defensive team.
The U17 VU boys have also done well in Premier division.

ANON 10:46 is correct. MYSA recomends the teams for MWRL, it is then up to the club to decide if that team is truely MWRL capable.

I see some MWL games in Eden Prairie this weekend, might be fun to watch.

Sometimes club administrators, coaches and parents do not listen to those in the know. Monticello's entry into the MRL will serve as an example and lesson to future teams that make the jump from Classic 1 to Premier and think they are now at the same level as those that have been Premier teams since U14. The team also used MRL as a recruiting tool to lure players, how many will be back next year? One only wonders why community based clubs are losing players to other clubs. EP is the one of the few CC clubs but their leadership makes sound decisions not whims of grandeur.

I have to agree with ANON 12:24, EP does a very good job with its program and when it does recruit or open up its tryouts they are very picky about the type of players they are looking for.

bangu 16's had an easy win this afternoon, dominating every aspect of the game against monticello..there is a big difference between the states top team and the states worst premier teams..

Anonymous said...

Who was that horrible ref for the Bangu -Monti game?

Anonymous said...

the ref didnt really matter...bangu dominated at every aspect and it didnt even seem as if they played their top 11...things in this age group could get real ugly in state cup if bangu plays their game.

Anonymous said...

who was the horrible team in the Bangu-Monti game?
why in the world were they allowed in MWL?

As for the teams that probably dont belong,Monticello went 0 8 scored 5 conceded 40,Champlain Rebels went 0 6 2 scored 7 conceded 20 and Westside is 2 4 1,scored 13 conceded 15.Westside 15s went 2 1 1 scored 7 concede 4 and played the two top teams in that span.Looks like Rebels at least got in some tough games prior to State.

Don't know where you are getting your info from but the one thing I do know the VU U17 Boys are top of the Premier Blue Division 5-2-0.
