Boys HS - Updated Polls

Hard to believe that the HS season is already 1/3 complete for some teams. Which teams are playing well, which teams need to find their game? Who are the teams and players we should get out and see?

Recent updated coaches polls can be found at the links below.

I'm surprised they continue to rank Wayzata so high.
They have only 3-4 top level players on the field and this isn't enough to carry them very far.

I think in this year of supposed parity, teams that are in the top 10 now will probably end up staying there. I have not seen South play this year but they are the only top 10 team with a 'convincing' win over another top 10 (South 3 Southwest 0).

An ODP coach/friend of mine told me that Abe Gibbons is playing outstanding and has got to be a favorite for Mr. Soccer...funny though, his brother is the one racking up all of the points.

I would say the 3-0 is "semi-convincing in HS.

I have heard good things about Krueger from Spring Lake Park, Dale from Eagan and the other Gibbons twin as well for AA.

For A, I've good things about Adafin from Rochester, Hong from St. Louis Park and Weglitner from Benilde.

I've seen Van Hong play this season and agree he's among the top 5 players and possibly the most complete player I've seen in any class "A" game to date this fall.
He has amazing strength despite not being tall and has tremendous vision and tactical awareness in addition to his great technical ability.

I saw the first half of the Minnetonka 0 - Edina 2 game last night. After a slow start by both teams, Minnetonka started to create a few quality chances and finished 2 of 3. Edina was moving the ball a bit but could not seem to create any good chances, except for a couple of long range shots, one that was just off the mark.

Prideaux had a nice goal by just running past an outside back and got his shot off before the center back could cover. The Minnetonka keeper did a nice job catching all of the balls Edina knocked high into the area.

A Minnetonka parent told me that last night they were just getting back 3 starters from injury and had 1 more starter that would be back in a few games.

Game was Minnetonka 2 Edina 0

Minnetonka will be very dangerous when they finally get all their starters back.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them at State.

I have seen Krueger 2 times. He is playing very well. More offensive minded than with his club team. He will need to pick up his defensive play and show that he is a complete midfielder.

I would also throw Clash Lo into the mix for Mr. Soccer consideration. He did not play club soccer last year, but is having a great senior year. Tartan are a much improved team so he could get a little attention this year.

Anoka should move up into the top 10. They are 8-0 and while they haven't played any top 10 teams, they must be playing well.

Big game on tuesday... Lakeville South vs. Eagan. Basically the top 2 teams in the Lake. Might be a fun game to go check out

not to mention the girls play right after and its a battle between the number 1 seed and number 3 seed in state and they are both are still undefeated

The Eagan girls team is the most solid girls team I have seen awhile. Not any glaring weaknesses, and while the guys team still has some issues, you cant argue with results. 5 in a row since they dropped the game against Eastview. And while the offense has kind of dropped op in the last few weeks. The defense has definately begun to solidify.

Another good game this week will be Central v. Highland. They are rivals for the St.P. City Conf title and two top 10 teams...

Its on Wed at Highland...

eagan 4 lakeville south 0

Anyone see the St. Paul Central, St. Paul Highland game? Score? How was it?

Anonymous said...

Highland 1, Central 0

Looked a lot like the first game. Central probably had more chances, but could not score. Neither team looked very sharp. I think they are both looking for their identities. No players really stood out, but they all seemed to be playing hard.

How did Eagan jump above Mpls Southwest? Southwest beat them earlier in the season and their only loss was to the #1 team?

Anonymous said...

Its a Coaches Poll, based off of what the coaches believe is correct. Sorry Southwest player/parent that you're only 4th but its based only off the coaches vote

Anonymous said...

I know it is based on the coaches vote, thus the "coaches poll."

I am questing the coaches decision to move them up. So to the coaches who voted, how does a team move above a team that beat them, when the team that beat them also has fewer losses.

Apple Valley 2 Eagan 0

Guess the Southwest parent is right.

Burnsville 4
Eagan 2

Eagan will not be #2 anymore...

Eagan should not be top ten in state when they are fifth in there conference.

South tied Southwest on Sat...both great teams! Southwest may be under-rated....

Hard to say that a #4 ranking is under-rated, but you could easily argue that Eagan had no business being above them, and that Wayzata with 6 or 7 ties should also not be above them. I am not knocking Eagan and Wayzata they are both well coached and very good teams.

I also saw the game and was impressed by both teams. South should have been up 2 or 3 goals in the first 8 minutes...when they missed their early chances they seemed to panic and played poorly the rest of the half. Taking nothing away from Southwest though, as they played quite well and looked better in the first half. South really rallied in the 2nd half after knocking one into their own net and going down 0-2. The boys that scored the 2 2nd half goals for South will remember them for the rest of their lives!

I would guess that today's rankings will come out with South #1 and Soutwest #2...probably will be a first for Minneapolis City Soccer.

I also saw that South was nationally ranked at #20, then #22...not sure if these national rankings mean anything, but still they were on the list.

Several of South's top players are from Bangu. They should be good.
