Club Scene – A Kinder and Gentler Soccer Community
I shut down the previous “club scene” post hoping this newer version might offer a chance for reconciliation and a more positive, upbeat discussion on club happenings. ;)
Mrs Robinson is very proud to have made Tomass' list. However, Mrs. Robinson's offspring has moved back to the world of community soccer instead of being part of the evil empire. Mrs. Robinson is contemplating what other uses the "plastic" piece can be used for. Maybe add a light and wiring to use to find her way home from neighborhood bonfires?
The Ramsey 18s will be destroyed at State Cup a will be below .500 in the premier league. Sorry to be so negative, but a good HS team does not equate to a good club team. Especially since the HS boys last fall were probably the weakest group of teams in 10+ years.
Really? Cuase I do remember seeing Apply Valley, EP, Lakeville North, Anoka, Centennial, Wayzata all having GREAT players and great records. IT was a great fall season. I dont know how you can say that.
they say that because club people are traditional High School bashers, and High School people are intimidated and threatened by club people and their High School bashing.
Then you have the select few who live in both worlds (its not as select actually as you'd think given the polarizing opiniones), most of which will admit the overall quality of play is better in club -- as it should be in a place where you can pick and chose players instead of dealing with the cards you were dealt -- there are more than enough positives in High School soccer that club never will be able to offer.
as a former college coach, I can tell you I'd prefer my recruits play both club and high school.
Anon 8:54 You're proving the point of HS bashers with the some of those teams. Apple Valley has traditionally played VERY ugly 'hoof-n-hope' soccer. Congrats to them on knowing what works though. One of my former club players who I didn't coach in HS said it best: "How can they expect us to get together and play well after a week or two with those MFers that we're supposed to bash heads with for the other 10 months?"
On most high school teams the difference in talent level from 1-11 is far greater than you find on a solid club premier team. In most cases the HS teams don't have enough skilled players to play a possession style game and resort to defend 1st and kick & run when the opportunity presents itself. The other factor is the HS season is just too short for coaches to experiment with different styles. I'm not knocking HS soccer because I think it gives kids who are role players on premier teams to be the star and learn how to be leaders on their their HS team. This in turn makes them a more confident player when they return to their club team. HS soccer is good for the kids and in turn improves the confidence level of the player when he's back with his club team.
This is a little off the higher-level soccer discussions, but I thought I'd see if anyone knew about it, anyway:
There was a U13C2 boys team from Hastings that won the east district last summer with a 9-0-1 record. There was also a Hastings C3 team that was near the bottom of that district. This year, there's only one U14B Hastings team, and it has remained at U14C2 (moved to south). I'm just curious how this happened.
It would seem that there should be either a C3 or a promoted C1 team coming out of there. Or, if there was a "new" team, it should (technically) have to start from C3. Anyone got any insight as to how this happened?
I've been looking at D1 College roster's a lot lately, and am surprised to find quite a few players at that level NOT playing High School Soccer. Most say they stopped playing High School Soccer to concentrate on Club ball.
Does that happen in MN? Is this one of the many reasons most MN players don't and can't break into the D1 level of play?

Ramsey will not be below .500 they got the tactics from the Anoka boys and the physical players from Centennial. (did anyone else watch Centennial play this fall, they murdered teams physically). Putting those 2 factors together is a GREAT idea. Props to the coach of RRR Premier
I will have to agree..river rats were not very good last year, congrats to them for winning state in high school, but you take one team that is good at the high school level and put them against other premier teams which are like high school all-star teams, i'll take the all-star team over the champion team.

1) love all elite teams equally as much as I love rec teams
2) allow all of the MDW fans to taking baby steps no matter how many they need as she attempts to sprint ahead
3) Disagree with EMS at least once this year - probably off-site on whose turn it is to pick up the tab or bring the Cubans
4) Treat all anons if they were made up of the same cosmic genetic soccer matter.
5) finally polish bangumom's combat boots
6) play sweeper in chess and get my A$$ handed to me to keep my ego in check
7) not to make a referee cry this year at the school level or get thrown out of a MYSA match for laughing at a referee
8) not to let mrsrobinson down, trust her more and invest in plastics.
9) not to be so secretive and maybe reveal who I really am
10) support MYSA in all they do and the decisions they make.......is it April's Fools Day???? LOL ok I stop at #9
10 ain't happening.

ReplyDeleteU15 C1 in 2005, U16 C2 in 2006, maybe U17C1 in 2007, maybe premier in 2008.
ReplyDeleteSorry! Forgot that this team was allowed to stay at C1 for 2006, even though they were relegated to U16 C2. Who coaches this team?
I honestly don't even know who this team is or what district it is in (north or east maybe?), but it sounds like they know the right people at MYSA

ReplyDeleteYup - Promotion/Relegation is kind of a joke. You win your league and then you can petition to stay where you were the year before.

ReplyDeleteHS soccer was a joke in 2007! The did go undefeated in HS, but may not win a game in league this year.
