'08 Boys Sectionals

Similar to last year, 10-12 teams have a chance to win state at AA and A. Many good teams but no dominant team that will steam roll into state. This should be one of the most competitive tournaments is quite some time.

Section brackets:

Section 1: A -- AA
Section 2: A -- AA
Section 3: A -- AA
Section 4: A -- AA
Section 5: A -- AA
Section 6: A -- AA
Section 7: A -- AA
Section 8: A -- AA

  1. Great work on putting this together Blogmaster. Thanks.

  2. Yes kudos to this well organized format and certainly confirm the statement that several teams could go all the way in wide open year in both classes. Several teams have excellent defenses as shown by Minnesota sports on line stats and solid play by goalies and defenders leave alot of games tossups. The importance of scoring first even more important this years tournament in evolving game strategy and team alignment. And of course the team execution under added pressure in overtime and shootouts makes for exciting and sometimes unexpected conclusions.

This is going to be a great hunt for the 8 state championship slots.

  5. Can Osseo come out of 5AA? Clearly they should, but they usually fall apart in the play-offs. Can they do it this year? The rest of the section are boring teams. Park Center is set to play them as a 1-4 matchup. Both have crappy D. High scores?

Rain makes for an ugly game. MG forwards had severak chances. Score should have been 5-2.

  11. watch out for South,capable of winning it all{neutral}

    ReplyDelete
  12. South absolutely creamed Armstrong their last game before sections. Armstrong who beat Edina, BJ, Wayzata, Osseo and Minnetonka.

If they are in fact peaking right now, they could be tough to handle. Unfortunately their keeper is the Achilies heal. It will be interesting for them.

    ReplyDelete
  13. South/SLP will test them both, should be a good game.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I don't think SLP is all that good. Not bad, but not like South. They don't have some of the weapons.

  15. How bad/how big of a joke is single A soccer?

  16. Anon 8:56 :

I can't completely disagree with your statement, but I will argue that AA soccer is just as big of a joke. I mean were talking about MN high school soccer here.

    Mr. Soccer for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Any other scores?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Outside of 1 or 2 teams, single A is awful, absolutely awful. They should not get the same billing as AA on this blog. Their stats should be tracked seperately and their records kept in a 3 ring binder cuz they ain't worth sh**.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Wow WB 2 out of 7 goals against a team that was 0-12-3...impressive. Maybe he should run for president as well.

    ReplyDelete
  26. WB could score more but coach held him off.
    WB for your mama...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Not nice!

As good as WB is, Mr. Soccer is as much about coach popularity. You gotta think the Bloomington Jefferson kid has a good shot as his coach is well connected.

    ReplyDelete
  28. mpls south is good. look for them to win their section.

    ReplyDelete
  29. PC 2 - Centennial 1

    ReplyDelete
  31. You have to be the top player in the conference to get Mr. Soccer.

    ReplyDelete
  32. AA ain't worth s*** either my friend Minnesota High School Soccer has the about the same reputation as Texas Hockey...it's all a complete joke.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Is WB top player in his conference?

    ReplyDelete
  34. wats up wit all this stuff about WB? is WB the only player in the league?

    ReplyDelete
  35. 9:05, well said.

    9:45, true.

    10:03, you're dumb.

10:07, you're kind of dumb too. A lot of coaches are well connected these days. And the well connected coaches know the top players through club ball. WB is a lock with his individual stats and team record.

  36. 10:57, get a life :)

  37. I heard South got pretty well handled by Wayzata 2-0 earlier this year, so I don't know about all these "South should win their section" statements, we'll see

    ReplyDelete
  38. any other scores?

    ReplyDelete
  39. that don't even matter its section now, wayzata loss to armstrong and south creamed them 4-0, so anything can happen.

    ReplyDelete
  40. A little disappointed that Hopkins lost in shootout.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hopkins couldn't go any more than that...sorry.

  42. Class 6AA sections prediction....

    Armstrong 2 - Wayzata 1

    St. Louis Park 1 - South 3

    ReplyDelete
  43. ooooo blake in a squeaker....17-0 over north.

    ReplyDelete
  44. AA and A both have their weak teams and conferences. There are huge disparities in school sizes and locations in the sections, just like conferences. We also have private vs. public schools. The biggest, best funded metro schools should be the ones in the finals.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I think A VS AA is not the point. High School Soccer is just not very good period. There are terrible AA teams... when McArthur scores a ton against teams that would not complete with Classic 3 Club teams people should not get too excited. But watch AA there will be some very lopsided matches because of the lack of talent on one side.....

    ReplyDelete
  46. Ok, this maybe a dumb question, but if your team doesn't make it out of sections. Can you still be Mr. Soccer?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Champlin - Irondale score?

    ReplyDelete
  48. looks like EP escaped near upset. As i have said all year they will be verylucky to make it out of sections and definitely will not win state. Don't understand it as their u-17 premier team is virtually 100% eden prairie kids and i think they were first or second in the league

    ReplyDelete
  49. they were first in their premier league.

they had an outstanding goalie from SLP play for them along with two talented field players - one from BSM and the other Hopkins.

Key question is how often do you see their starting summer line-up on the field at the same time.

Thank god the asst. coach convinced the head coach to stop playing man marking all over the field.

    ReplyDelete
  50. yes you can still win Mr Soccer if your team loses in the section tourney. The player must be the number one rated player out of its conference. The group meets this sunday to decide. Then it will be announced at the State Banquet on Oct 19 at 6pm for AA. If Brown was voted the top player in his conf he will win it for sure. He is among the leaders in scoring, his team has done, and he is one of the top players. Yes he is a lock assuming the coaches in his conf did not overlook him.

    ReplyDelete
  51. WB will win Mr. Soccer with his team #3 rated in state and scored tons of goals.

    ReplyDelete
  52. regarding EP premier team, I was aware of the SLP goalie, but I think you might be a year off on the others. the EP u 18 team had kessler from Hopkins at center mid, and two players from BSM.

    ReplyDelete
  53. regarding Ep team - nope I'm not a year off. First hand knowledge

    ReplyDelete
  54. Umm, just looked on the MNonline site. Looks like WB shouldn't fans should be crowing quite so loudly yet. D. Fadis just behind WB in goal scoring. Has made the All State team I believe for the past two years. In otherwords he has been a constant threat over a significant period of time.

    ReplyDelete
  55. WB made Fadis looked like U10 when they played earlier in the season.

BTW, how many Mpls South scored against Mpls North? I've lost count...

    ReplyDelete
  56. kessler on U18 EP team is freshman in college. younger kessler (junior) plays for hopkins

    ReplyDelete
  57. Team success is just as important as individual stats. DF is a top contender, but WB has it locked, deservedly so. South isn't as good as Osseo this year and South piled on the stats against weak teams.

If Blake really beat North 17-0, that is really sad. Ever hear of knocking the ball around?

7:42, How can someone predict that EP won't win it all? They've given up the least goals and they have a top record in the toughest conference. Looks like an easy favorite to me. What else do they need to do to get your blessing?

    ReplyDelete
  58. kessler on U18 EP team is freshman in college. younger kessler (junior) plays for hopkins high school and westside U17BPr

    ReplyDelete
  59. WB has earned the right to be nominated for Mr Soccer not only for his stats in HS soccer but also his recognition a Regional ODP player for the past 3 years. He has shown that he is technically proficient but also versatile as a midfielder.Osseo is in the position they are now because WB has the ability to involve his team mates and make them better.DF is all about stats usually pumped up against mediocre competition.Right now, I would say he is a clear favorite!

    ReplyDelete
  60. What's with the 17 goals from Blake? What an awful display of non-sportsmanship to run up a score like that. that is just awful.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Snipe all you want, Fadis has consistently been recognized as a player WB has not.

In the Osseo vs. South, game WB made 5 shots and score on 3. Dula made one shot and score on one. Dula has one assist WB has none. It sounds like one directs and controls the field, Dula, and the other is the recipient of his teammates hard work.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Dula Fadis scored 8 goals against Mpls North
    09-17-2008 Minneapolis North 5 goals
    09-29-2008 Minneapolis North 3 goals

    This dude is incredibly good!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Anon 9:42am, It's a new year and Fadis is cold as water pipe in winter and WB is HOT!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Fadis score 3 goals against Mpls Washburn. This dude is really good!

    09-24-2008 Minneapolis Washburn 3 goals

    ReplyDelete
  65. Whitney already has it locked up trust me. Dula wil get all state. Hopefully both coaches are NSCAA members so they can get All American and All Midwest Honors.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Umm, I’m pretty sure this is called High School Soccer? Not ODP soccer? However, if it is about ODP, Dula has also been on the regional team for the past 3 years too, so what.

"WB has the ability to involve his team mate"

Without Hoang in the middle feeding the ball to WB, his goals average would be half of what it is now. Fadis does not have a Hoang caliber player feeding the ball to him for scoring opportunities. So, your statement about WB ability to involve his team mates is very kumba, it is just not true. IF WB is voted Mr. Soccer, he should immediately go a shake both C. Hoang's hand and L. Hoang's hands without those two props WB would not even be someone we are talking about.

  76. "what the H E C K!" is the catch phrase I beleive.

    ReplyDelete
  77. In response to the comments about blake, south, southwest, anyone v. North I think it is a difficult situation. As a coach, how do you tell your guys "hey they are bad we dont need to play the full 90 to beat them so go out there and screw around." Teams who play them as part of conference or playoff schedules are in a difficult situation. If you schedule them nonconference and then smash them 17-0 there is a problem. As a coach I thought I was doing the right thing when I told my guys not to let the other team touch the ball in the second half of a blowout but not to score a goal either. After 20 minutes of chasing my team around the other team just stopped running and stood and watched for the last 10 minutes of a tournament game. I'm not sure which was worse.

    ReplyDelete
  78. we all know somehow that someone is gonna be name Mr. soccer, so why not just want instead of saying those stuff that don't even matter.

  84. Pass the ball around, play one-touch, practice your passing, make them chase, make them quit, just don't pile up the score 17-0. Not difficult at all for a coach to do. Bench any player that uses more than one touch, plays the ball in the air or scores. Good for everyone involved.

    I hope Blake gets smoked.

  95. Dear soccer fan at 1:10 pm:

The common cause of fairness and equity is an aspirational goal that unites us all. That is why the insightful individuals at the high school league have already doubled the attendance figures in the number you report for Saint Thomas Academy. Thus you should divide the high school league number in half to get the actual number of fine young men attending that magnificent, single gender, catholic, military school located just south of St. Paul. I wish all the teams well as thee sectional play begins. But, of course, I may work in a novena or two for those partial to my side of the pitch.

    /s/ brother o’pitch

  97. Edina Vs Jefferson should be a good game... The first time they played it was a good game but a 1 to 0 lose for Jefferson. But now Edina has to play on the worst field in the state. Unfair advantage or deserving?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Why is it the worst field in the state?

Doesn't every natural turf field in the state have a trench on the sidelines? Just to be fair to Jefferson or Edina, they can't have the worse field in the state. The worse field in the state is any natural turf high school football team field that allows the soccer teams to play on it.

Which as someone pointed out eariler is why boot and scoot will get you to the dome.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Does it really matter how many goals a team scores? If you take your starters out your fine. I could care less if you keep scoring as long as it's not your starting forwards continuing to put it in the net. Everyone on here whines to much let the teams score all they can, it really is not that big of a deal. The other team will get over it. What good is it for them to not have a point to the game, the object is to score goals by stopping players from doing that you take the point of the game away. Yes, possesion and blah blah blah but lets be serious let the kids play.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Anon 8/10/08 7:06 AM:
MacArthur scores goals despite being in the smallest school in the conference and playing as holding MF out of necessity. He won conference MVP and all-state last year as junior despite teams dismal season and first round out at sections. He plays every minute of every game and is constantly hacked and targeted. But he loves it and does not complain. I am sure that there are great players all over Minnesota, but don't cut someone down if you don't know the facts.

  116. Brown has already won the Mr Soccer award. Trust me on this. I know. The coaches vote on Sunday afternoon and Dula is a great player but Osseo has done well and Brown has played vs better competition. This point is not even worth discussing Brown is a lock. Rodrigo is the best soccer player in MN no doubt. Ask any of the top coaches and they will tell you that. He is going to go to Madison and is the biggest recruit out of MN this year.

    ReplyDelete
  117. WB makes Rodrigo looking like he's jogging with the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Commenting on the level of teams in the Mississippi 8 Conference is in no way a cut to Ryan. I have watched him play against my son both in the summer and in conference, Ryan is a gifted player on a very weak High School team. The point is Big Lake, Becker, almost any quality player could score at will against. The rest of the conference is average and how many goals and points has he scored against Monticello, Rogers, Buffalo? Building Stats against bad teams should not get you Mr Soccer.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Players in all conferences pad their stats against weak teams, but it is hard to score even against weak teams if the rest of your team is as weak as the team you are playing. Plus, some players do not play only one position. They may have a defensive role against the "better" teams.

    ReplyDelete
  121. It's the same thing when piling up goals against Mpls North will not get you far.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Not in the Lake Conference where the bottom team only won one game all year and they pushed AV the number one team in the state last night and ended up losing 1-0. You don't get to run up any scores or stats in the Lake Conf. Where Eagan the conference runner up beat Hastings 9-0. The Suburban East is way down.
Woodbury does not even play any non conf games. We really don't know how good they are. The Lake and Classic Lake have been and will continue to be the two best Conferences. Only once since the mid 90's has some other conf won the state tourney and that was Anoka last year. When was the last time a team from Section 1 or 8 played in the final game? I dont think any southern or northern schools have made it to the final game. Mayo looks decent this year and will be a tough team to beat. Section 8 should be Elk River and I understand they will be better next year, maybe a year away.

BSM scored 23 goals all year, but scored 12 in the first game of their sections. It really does matter who you play.

  124. 12:02 is correct.

MN has a number of good attacking players this year. More than in previous years. With the increase in immigrant families, this trend will continue.

  125. Anyone notice the similarity between Super Eagles post in the past the the WB post now. The maturity, the eloquent verbage.

WB is in our conference. He has LOTS of support. His sucess is not his own. They are rank #3, because he has support! The ER game was the first time he was man mark. Man mark his with someone w/speed and is physical and he cracks like an egg.

WB summer team was religated, because they scored 11 goals all MYSA season. They had a well respected coach, so it not the coaching. Could it be he didn't care, wasn't trying? Could it be that he didn't have the support he has now, against much weaker competition.

Most of the other players being mentioned for Mr. Soccer, not only played sucessfully in the PREMIER MWL, they scored goals.

So what does that have to do with HS soccer. Well, as the yahoo's keep spouting about how WB is carrying Osseo it just isn't true given the facts. Sorry guys WB sucess is mostly due to the support he is getting from around him.

WB is as good as any his teammates. Since stats is the highlight of accomplishment, you need to pick player with stats behind him.

  129. If you stop WB, you have a good chance of beating Osseo whether you man mark him or mug him. You just contradicted yourself by using the Elk river game as an example. Osseo has some talented individual players(it does not hurt to have 4 who won the 4X100 relay)but WB makes the team better because he is gifted with great technical skills and a good feel of the game.Championship soccer is after all still a team game and WB is only one player but he has shown he can be a game changer

    ReplyDelete
  130. Dula is all of those things and has worked more consistantly. He has preformed for every team he has played on.

The point about the ER game was WB did not score I beleive in that game. When pressured, without that pressure being deluted he is not effective. Hence this summer performance.

Mr. Soccer is a special award, for someone who has consistantly performed and worked hard. WB has not done that.

    ReplyDelete
  131. You all can stop your stuff about WB.
He already won the award. Rodrigo will win the Pioneer Press player because they pick an east side or St Paul kid. These are guarantees. Trust me on this. Lets Blog about who is going to win the state championship and who is going to college to play next year.

  143. RM dad - chill and let your son play. any one winning this award and cant take his team to the state tournament is a player who does not have a sense of the game. If you are deserving of the award, then the next few weeks will show. How many goals can he score when it counts. all weak teams will be done and now we play for real. I hope we don't make excuses then. win state champ and make your school proud and let's forget all these individual awards. it makes parents feel proud but the rest of the school ... hmmm - no babes for Mr. MN soccer. Secondly, must player be high in points. It has nothing to do with the game itself.
we can only say that HS soccer is MN is in the hands of mostly coaches who have not played the game so they vote based on emotions and network. If we truly want to select players who know the game, and we can be proud of our selections, some of the past selections from Wayzata and Edina would not be even close.

Apple Valley is dominated by their Juniors and Sophomores as the strong point of talent for the team. The top 8 players in points for AV are Sophomores or Juniors.

As far as Eden Prairie I am surprised they don't have someone in the mix because they have some talent in their senior class. But when I just looked at the stats on the S-Trib no one has more than 13 points so that sort of answers that. They don't have any Monasterios.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Anon 12:33pm Granted WB got all those goals not by himself but with lots of help from the team. If he wins Mr. Soccer, it's just not for himself but the entire team wins as well. To get the best possible chance for the team to win, WB is the only one that has stats jump out at the coaches and can speak in volume to get those important votes.
Osseo and NWSC can be proud that they have Mr. Soccer in their backyard.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Hoang is good player but he's not in scoring position to get those accolades. He can be a force in the midfield and setup the scoring play. WB is great finisher however. You need all the parts to have a winning team and these two can make it happens.

Are you from Osseo? Doesn't sound like it.

WB or his fans for the past three days have been claiming that he is a one man show. From the junk I've readed on this blog, WB don't represent anyone but himself! If I was Hoang, I'd be pissed. As RM dad has said Mr. Soccer is an honor, WB isn't honoring anyone but himself. Sure they are going to come on an make all nicey nice now. Yeah, yeah WB winning it for us all. But we all already know what you think. Good to know where your team mates stand.

    ReplyDelete
  148. The reason an Apple Valley or Eden Prairie player was not mentioned for Mr. Soccer is that it was assumed Ryan Schlittler would walk away easily with the honor. You must be tops in your section.

Lots of talk about some really good players, but only a metro player or extremely talented out-state player with an outstanding summer association with a winning premier team should be selected.

Reason - Insufficient high school competition (ie. North Branch, Mpls, St. Paul)

    ReplyDelete

I would assume the WB is number 1 in the NW Sub Conf. This Sunday the 8 section reps from AA and the 8 from A will pick the AA and A winner. Then Oct 19 the award will be announced. I guarantee you WB will win. The lake rep is not RS from Eagan and no player from AV because they are all juniors or younger. WB will win it for sure. Highest rated team with a top kid and he is one of the best. The MPLS city rarely gets the Mr Soccer becasue the stats are out of balance because of competition.

  156. Mr. Soccer goes to the best player that had the best season on the best team. Individual stats, team success and player history all weigh in on it.

CM didn't have outrageous stats in 2007, but he was the best player on the best team and he was a good player outside of HS soccer. This is how it has been selected every year, except for maybe 2000 when DR won it over SG (but it sounds like you guys forget out previous seasons).

It's hard to argue with any of the previous selections, including pre-Mr. Soccer years back in the 90s. WB is the most deserving player this season. He's a good player, on a top team, with top-level stats, and he's done well in club soccer by playing premier and being a top ODP player.

    ReplyDelete
  157. CM on the best team in 2007? They didn’t win state, but at least you let us all know you’re a Wayzata fan! Prior year AG from Mpls. South didn't make it to state.

2:27 is right about the WB. His attitude may keep him from getting the award.

Also, as previous bloggers have pointed out he get service from a good midfield and gets to play up top and tap goals in.

Anyone who thinks RG is the best player in HS soccer, but thinks WB should win the award is stupid.. The best HS player should win the award. Off the field and attitude also plays heavily into the award. Everyone in recent memory execpt maybe AK were good citizens...and AK wasn't really bad, he just found some trouble.

I agree with 6:34 that no previous have been bad choices. This years winner will not be a bad choice either, regardless of who it is.

I don't think it will be WB. By the way how did Geoffrey Meyers not ever win Mr. Soccer?

    ReplyDelete
  158. WB played Wings Premier. It was religated. They scored 11 goals all season. "he's done well in club soccer" by what standard?

  162. Let's go back to the reason for this blog! Osseo can win sections if their defense can hold up!(Back line is suspect and a goalie that is average!)South is not a lock because now, they have to play real teams and St louis Park will give them everything they can handle!Mr soccer does not mean D1 success because if you check the post in D1 Mn players, you will find quite a few that are doing well w/o Mr soccer credentials! As for Mr Soccer recipients in D1 programs in the last five years, CM,AG,DG,BM,RV,DO, are examples of kids that are doing well academically and meeting the demands of a student athlete. You can say the same about the women student athletes. As for Geoffrey Myers, his issues were similar to AK and you can say the same thing with AW (gifted athletes w added baggage)along with an age discrepancy issue. You can throw in the mix Keido Pour and all his credentials as Mr Soccer and Star Tribune player of the year. The bottom line is Mr Soccer is a high school recognition based on not just a fall soccer season and D1 SOCCER requires a respectable ACT and a commitment that soccer is now a job and the reality of it's demands can be a rude awakening! Mr Soccer will come and go and whoever gets it in a given year will always remember that it is TEAM first and the celebration that follows is vindication of a great season(Making it to state championship certainly counts)so everybody chill because the real Mr Soccer will come out before the final eight!Relax and enjoy the boys of October!

I called it last year and everyone jumped on the SE coach. but let me tell you something this kid will make WB or any AA player eat crow despite playing on A school. he was leading scorer on his club team and also plays ODP - so the credentials speaks. last year I wrote about the yonga kid and was told to shut up - how about him this year? what are you guys saying?

The competition for TGHS was tougher schedule even beating Armstrong and losing close games to EP and SLP. I like to see the RM schools play EP or any top ranked schools in AA. if he does not get it then coaches need to check their heads.IMO he gets the vote.

  173. Roseville v Stillwater game close but Stillwater advances 1-0

    Central beats W.B. Lk 1-0.

WB Lk. passed there way around Central in the midfield last night and controlled large chunks of the game, but really didn't have anyone dangerous on the attack. Central was having a horrible time linking between the midfield and forwards. When the forwards did get the ball there was no support from the midfield. There offensive shape was pretty bad most of the night ( I've seen them play before and they can play much better) although the defense did keep their shape well and allowed WB Lk very little opportunities. But WBL did hit one that the Central keeper tipped over the net and skimmed the bar. Another WBL shot was cleared off the line by a defender. But Central was by far the more dangerous team in final third. To WB Lk's credit, they defended really well and always had large numbers back with good shape to their defense. Central could have easily had 2 or 3 more goals. Two off the bar, three cleared off the line by defenders and one tipped just over the bar.

  176. anon 6:15, so does that mean the criteria for getting the award should be to a senior and not to be best player despite not being a senior? it is strange that we pick a player as Mr soccer just because of seniority. this is another entitlement that we should do away with. just wait till you are a seniuor and put up some good numbers and you become mr. soccer in mn. that's a shame for anyone who knows soccer. the records for a particular year should be the measurement not just because someone is a senior and therefore we should only say HS is only seniors who should play-

    ReplyDelete
  177. 6:52,
By best player on the best team, that means any of the top ranked teams. Rarely will the award go to a player on a weak team. Regardless, Wayzata was ranked #1 at the time Mr. Soccer was selected last year. Therefore, CM was the top player on the top team. That's beside the point.

Mr. Soccer doesn't go to the top player in HS. It goes to the player that had the best season, which includes individual and team accomplishments. RG is the top player in both HS classes.

WB has had a good club career in the sense that he has always been a top player in the premier league and he has made the region pool.

You're fooling yourself if you're digging for reasons for WB not to win it. Simply put, the best player on Osseo is going to win it, whomever you think that is.

    ReplyDelete

  180. The coaches have a hard time screwing someone with a well-known name like CM or WB.

But for the lesser known kids?
It happens all the time when you are talking all-state. Coach-politics play a large part in the section seed/vote meetings.

Decent-quality kids get passed over because their coach is not well-liked/trusted by the other coaches in the seed meeting. Or they owe a coach a vote for pushing last year's kid from their respective team.

Or sometimes a coach won't even nominate his own player for (?) reasons.

I have participated in these meetings many times.

You are missing the point - It is great to be cheering for a Mr. Soccer candidate that will go to a top academic D1 school than a knucklehead that thinks he will have a career with the Thunder.

IE. John Baumgartner - Notre Dame
    Paul Grandstrand - Ivy/Brown
    Colin Montestereo - Madison
    David Dale - Boston College
    Ben Sippola - Butler
    Andre Adams - Boston University

These guys are ROLE MODELS! Great grades, D1 Soccer, great high school seasons

But I do hear what your saying you think the award should be about or should I say, that it's nice to cheer for someone who is also an academic as well as an athlete. But if you look at a world model, which is the only way the players in the country are going to get better, than the kid who is aspiring to play in the USL, MLS, Europe, S. America or U.S. National team should certainly be valued for what they are trying to achieve. And no, they will not be playing D1 college futbol because it's not the best way to achieve those goals.

    I sense jealousy.

I would say making the region team is a pretty good non-HS career.

Add on 30-some goals for a top ranked team in the HS season and you have the likely Mr. Soccer winner.

Classic lake matchup between Wayzata and Armstrong might go into a shootout since this will be the 3rd time they are meeting. "top player on a premier team in the best and most spread out age group” in you and your child’s dreams. Why do last years U16 think they are the best age group ever to grace the soccer in MN is beyond me. They had success early on due to abundance of early maturing players and a coach that was able to unite them for a short period. WB was not even a part of that success. Last year, while a loud and controversial group they certainly did not experience the kind of success the U17 age group did. In fact the group of U16 parents that consistently post on this web site, were not even apart of the team that went to U16 regional tournament. They carried on like spoil brats about how the best team did not go to regions. Yet the team that went played competitive soccer at regions despite the jealousy of a few. The jealousy you sense is your own. The shrill for attention from your community is tasteless and unfounded. The only U17 premier team beaten by a U16 team was again the Wings, which was relegated. Not one U16 team beat any of the top three U17 teams in the state. Again, to say they are the most talented, most spread out age group is just not true, and the facts do not support this view. End of story. At present, the only thing this age group is "best" at is producing psycho adults/parents.

"as well as being a region pool player" as all the others are being mentioned for Mr. Soccer. So what, that is not a good club career. That is ODP and there are several other players with those same credentials. Mr. Soccer takes more than just a good HS season, takes more than having just a good club season, and takes more than just having a good ODP experience.
